A herbs, health and harmony c" border=0>

There's probably not many of us who wouldn't admit that there is room in our lives for some healthy changes. Whether we want to lose a few extra pounds, eat better, get more sleep or get a better grip on the stress in our lives, we know that the commitment we make toward those goals would be a positive step in the right direction. But is committing to goals enough?

Having a goal in mind is an important first step. It shows a motivation to change and that's a good start but if we truly want to be successful in attaining the goals we set for ourselves then we need to get beyond that first step. Most researchers agree that it takes anywhere from 21 to 30 days to change or start a new behavior. A lot can happen in a day. Can you imagine all that can happen in 21 to 30 days? We may sail along for the first several days but sooner than later, we're going to come face to face with something called emotional resistance. This is where our mind set sort of goes into a major revolt!

Think of emotional resistance as a form of self protection. It's the mind's way of protecting what is already established. We've accumulated some behavior patterns (habits) that we do on auto-pilot. When we act to change those habits, we're going to meet some resistance. At first, emotional resistance may take the form of boredom and we simply lose interest in the new behavior. If we get through the initial stages of resistance and we're on our way to behavior change, then the mind kicks into high gear with some really devious obstacles to impede our progress. Suddenly, you may find yourself thinking that you're not worth the changes that you're trying to make or that you're not deserving of a healthier lifestyle. These thoughts and perceptions are coming from the deep recesses of your mind and if you let them they can completely derail your motivation to change.

Motivation is key to lasting change but it's fragile. Understanding how to stay motivated is the best thing that you can do for yourself no matter what kinds of changes you're planning. A herbs, health and harmony c" border=0>

Everyone knows that omega-3 fatty acids are beneficial for the health of your heart and your brain. But how many of us know anything about omega-6 fatty acids? And for that matter, how many of us know what the recommended intake ratio is for those two compounds? Most Americans consume omega-6s and omega-3s in a ratio of about 20:1. However, the ideal ratio of these two fatty acids is 4:1.

We all know how beneficial omega-3's are, yet we never seem to incorporate enough of them into the diet we are consuming. And given that both fatty acids require the same enzymes to function properly, getting way more omega-6's starves omega-3's and promotes inflammation in the body. This in return contributes to heart disease, cancer, arthritis, and asthma. That is why it is very beneficial to keep these two compounds well balanced. In the next paragraph I will provide a few helpful tips on how to achieve a better balance of these two fatty acids.

The first step towards balancing your ratio of fatty acids is raising your intake of omega-3's. You can easily achieve this by eating oily fish at least twice a week. You can also achieve this goal by taking 1,000 mg of high quality fish oil every day. The second step towards achieving a balance of fatty acids is lowering your intake of omega-6's. Even though omega 6 fatty acids are very important because they support skin health, keep cholesterol levels in check, and help blood clot, we tend to consume too much of this particular compound. We can help lower our intake by avoiding vegetable-oil-laden processed foods. We can also work into our diet more naturally balanced foods such as hempseeds, chia seeds, flaxseeds and walnuts. There are numerous ways to improve your nutrition; from various herbal remedies to the consumption of whey protein. So the next time you hear someone talking about fatty acids, be sure to explain to them how to achieve a well balanced ratio of the two.

Lauren S. A herbs, health and harmony c" border=0>

If you are a junk food junkie or you often don't eat well and are unconcerned with health and nutrition, why is this? Everyday we read about or see on TV how sugar, soft drinks, many kinds of fats, fried foods, factory farmed foods, devitalized, packaged and processed food, pesticide laden food, and other kinds of junk food cause illness. What causes you to ignore the research and go right on eating badly?I explored this issue with some of my clients and friends, and this is what they said:

"I don't believe it. My parents didn't eat well and they lived long lives." (Albeit not healthy long lives!)
"I don't feel any different when I eat junk than when I eat well, so I don't think it's harming me."
"It's worth it for a few years off my life." (Forgetting that many of those years may be spent in illness and pain).

What Are You Not Noticing?

What I have seen over and over is that many people are not sensitive to the profound effects food has on them, so they are not motivated to eat well. They don't notice that their energy may be a little lower or that they might not be as clear-headed. But the real thing they don't notice is what junk food and devitalized food is doing to their organs and immune system. The sad thing is that suddenly, one day in their 50s or 60s or 70s, they notice it - big time. This is when they might start to have health problems - heart problems, diabetes, cancer, or other degenerative diseases. While the health issue seems to be sudden, it has been happening for all the years of poor nutrition. But they didn't notice because they didn't pay attention to how sugar or processed food FELT when they ate it - both physically and emotionally. They didn't notice that their mood, or their ability to sleep, or their stamina, or the level of pain in their body was affected by the food they were eating. Often they just took a pill to take away anxiety or depression, or to sleep, or to take away pain. Or they drank more coffee to give them the energy to get through the day. In fact, they may have been using food to AVOID their feelings rather than attending to them. Comfort food certainly works to make us feel better for the moment while covertly doing its damage in the body.

Being Present in Your Body

Until you are willing to be present in your body and notice the affects food has on you physically and emotionally, you might not be motivated to eat well. Until you desire a high level of health throughout your life, instead of spending your later years dealing with illness, you might not be motivated to eat well.If high energy and excellent health are important to you, then start noticing the differences between eating clean, fresh organic fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Experiment with noticing the differences between raw dairy and meats from organically-fed grass finished cows as opposed to pasteurized dairy and factory farmed cows, as well as organic eggs and chickens as opposed to factory-farmed eggs and chickens that are filled with hormones. See how you feel if you take the time to make fresh raw and cooked foods as opposed to packaged foods. If you think you can't afford the healthy food, think about how much you will be saving on doctor bills and medications. See where you can cut down spending in other aspects of your life. After all, what is really more important in life than health?

Margaret Paul, Ph.D. is a best-selling author of 8 books and co-creator of the powerful Inner Bonding® healing process. It seems over time we have translated the meaning; what started as a time to reflect on the blessings of one's life and enjoying the people we are fortunate enough to have in our lives has become about gorging ourselves on fattening food, parking in front of the television and falling into a turkey induced sleep coma. My goal is to get all of you back into the true spirit of Thanksgiving and keep you from putting on the pounds. Here are 10 tips that can help you have a healthier holiday.

Eat a normal breakfast- the day of and day after thanksgiving eat a breakfast you would eat every other day of the year, don't nibble on the festivity food.

Savor your food- eat slowly and enjoy each bite.

Offer to drive- if you offer to drive you will be more conscious about what spirits you drink and therefore control your alcohol calorie intake.

Don't be too hard on yourself- this is a time of celebration so if you have some things out of the ordinary for your diet don't get down on yourself.

Buddy system- sit with a friend or family member that is also trying to watch what they eat. You can help each other make good choices and it will make you more conscious of when you are full.

Drink water- a big glass of water with your meal can help fill space so that your appetite is lessened.

Fight the urge to nap- tryptophan in turkey can make you sleepy. Find something to do after you eat rather than nap and let all that food settle.

Doggie bags- get doggie bags ready so that everyone can take some leftovers so that you're not snacking on them for the next week.

Play with the kids- after dinner go outside or play a board game with the children. It will keep you from sitting on the couch or napping.

Strike up a conversation- when the event starts and hors d" oeuvres emerge from the kitchen find someone to catch up with, you can't talk with your mouth full of food.

Susan Smith writes health articles about fitness and nutrition. You may be asking, "Why can't I just EAT my food?" Here are some good answers:

1. You can't (or probably won't) eat enough veggies and fruits to obtain all the nutrients your body needs. The USDA, National Cancer Institute, Surgeon General, and many other health agencies are now recommending that we ingest nine ½ cup servings of produce per day! (That's 4 ½ cups total!)
2. There is a lot of 'goodness' locked in the fiber of produce, all of which is expelled from the body when eaten as 'food'. What a waste! (no pun intended)
3. When produce is juiced, this goodness is 'released' from the fiber. When we drink the juice, this highly concentrated cocktail of nutrients enters our bloodstream very quickly, with very little required from the digestive system.

However, we want to stress that you do still need to eat some produce and whole grains, because your body DOES need fiber to keep it moving, maintain a healthy cholesterol balance, and several other functions.

A word of caution if you are tempted to try to save yourself the trouble of juicing your own produce: bottled and canned juices lose much of their valuable nutrients during the processing because of oxidation and heat. In addition, these commercially prepared juices also use veggies and fruits of 'unknown' orign, unless labeled 'organic'.

If you do your own juicing, you can avoid some of the pitfalls of canned or bottled juices, such as...

* losing nutrients because of heating the juice
* losing nutrients through oxidation because you can't drink it immediately
* additives such as sweeteners (artificial or not!), sodium, and preservatives
* pesticides and chemicals (Choose to buy organic, or better yet, grow your own with the EarthBox!)

Need help finding a juice that fits your lifestyle?
Visit us at http://healthykitchenplus.com/electric-juicers

P.S. A herbs, health and harmony c" border=0>

It is universally recognised - by medical practitioners and the public alike - that regular exercise is beneficial to health. Psychologically and physiologically, there is no doubt that indulging in activities that flex the muscles and raise the heart rate brings enormous benefits and represents an important part of a healthy lifestyle.

Despite the undoubted health advantages however, it is possible to over-exercise and a propensity to over-indulge in exercise carries several social, physical and psychological risks.

Doctors recommend that everyone takes part in some form of exercise for three periods of at least 30 minutes every week. Many people exercise much more frequently or intensively than that - perhaps working towards personal sporting or aerobic goals or as part of a regular social sporting pursuit, often gaining substantial health benefits and personal satisfaction.

But for some people, exercise becomes a compulsion - a part of their life that, rather than offering health and social benefits, brings only problems which, unless the compulsive pattern is broken early, have the capacity to become self-reinforcing. Understandably, parents or friends of someone whose indulgence in exercise appears excessive may be unsure and consequentially reluctant to intervene but there are a number of key signals to look out for that may indicate an exercise regime has become potentially harmful.

The development of a problematic situation is often indicated by an insistence upon exercise regardless of all other aspects of life or the consequences for others - for example, missing social activities or other significant personal or professional commitments. Often, an individual's motivation is rooted in emotional issues, their goal to lose weight and raise self-esteem rather than to be mindful of normal health or social considerations. Their exercise schedule is intense and rigid to the extent that missing even a single session can make them anxious and unsettled and even attempt to double the amount of exercise they do at the next available opportunity to make up for the perceived loss. The compulsive nature of their exercise may drive them to continue with their planned schedule in spite of injury or illness, risking a worsening of their condition, and they will typically exercise alone, uninterested in the social benefits that many derive from sport and competition.

Medical practitioners agree that the excessive physical burden of over-exercise can result in a number of health side-effects with potentially serious long-term consequences. Placing the body under excessive strain and denying tissue adequate recovery time can be a contributory factor in the development of degenerative arthritis, osteoporosis, stress fractures and cardio-vascular complications. Muscular deterioration, fatigue and dehydration have also been identified as potential consequences of over-exercise. No less debilitating are self-perpetuating social and psychological difficulties such as the neglect of personal relationships, leading to greater loneliness and isolation, anxiety and depression and a resultant reinforcement of negative self-perceptions and guilt.

Jenny Hudson is an experienced health journalist, whose articles are regularly published in national newspapers and magazines. And you are also "how you eat," and "when you eat."

5 Tips to Insure Proper Digestion for Domestic Abuse Survivors

How you eat and when you eat determines how we assimilate what we eat. This, of course, is how nourishing the food we eat will be for us.

Mealtime in an abusive home

Living in an abusive relationship can influence the how you eat. You can come to the dinner table and sit down to criticism, nitpicking, outright belittlement that can go from "let me count the ways I hate you" to a major family feud.

Over time, mealtime can be met with apprehension and caution--feeling states that interfere with proper digestion. So you come to the table and awhile at the table you could be preventing proper digestion and thus undermining the potential nourishing value of your food--even healthy wholesome food.

We know from ayurvedic medicine and ancient teachings for centuries, as well as from contemporary scientific research, that the digestion of food is possible as a result of the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system--relaxation.

The gastrointestinal functioning from the moment you salivate until you're finished eating, and then through elimination, requires proper gastrointestinal functioning. And as we know, this body system is regulated by the limbic-hypothalamic-pituitary response, wherein resides the emotional brain.

The bottom line for anyone living in an abusive relationship

Be mindful of the following 5 eating tips and employ them into your daily routine.

1) Eat in a quiet and comfortable setting.

2) Keep dinner conversation to thoughts and experiences that are neutral or uplifting.

3) Have a small cup of warm to hot water with your food and avoid cold beverages with main meals.

4) Sit at the table for a couple of minutes quietly after you eat before leaving the table.

5) Eat your main meal between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM

While these tips are given to you as though they are eating tips for domestic violence survivors, they are actually eating tips for anyone wanting to obtain maximum nourishment from their food. A herbs, health and harmony c" border=0>
For many of us, eating healthy on a regular basis is something we don't think we have time for. Our lives are so busy and we have so many responsibilities, that taking extra time to plan meals and cook healthy food is something we don't have. But if you stop and take a careful look at the benefit of eating healthy to the quality of your life, you may want to re-evaluate your priorities.

Here are 7 key benefits of eating healthy:

1. One of the best benefits from eating healthy food is that you will not only feel great, but you will have a lot more energy. This results in you being able to enjoy life much more as well as living a much fuller life in the future. You will find that you get more done in the time you have alloted. Quite possibly, the time you take to eat healthy will give you more time to do what you enjoy most.

2. By eating healthy food you will have a stronger immune system so that you stay well. And if you do get sick, you will recover much more quickly.

3. Eating healthy foods will help you to maintain a healthy weight. Not only will you look great but you will be physically fit as well. When you are fit, you will find coping with the stresses and strains of every day life much easier to do.

4. Another benefit of eating healthy is it will help you to stay alert and mentally sharp as you grow older. Even when you are in your 80's, you will still be thinking like a 20 year old.

5. Many people who live a healthy life and eat healthy foods find that when they reach 65 they are still able to do the same things that they did when they 20 with just as much enjoyment.

6. Eating healthy foods rather than processed or pre-packaged foods will help you to prevent certain diseases which are related to diet and nutrition. This includes such diseases as cancer, heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and, of course, obesity. The incidence of obesity is growing steadily year by year and especially so in children.

As you can see, there are a wide range of benefits you will enjoy from healthy eating. It is the main solvent for all foods, vitamins, and minerals. It is used in the breakdown of food into smaller particles and their eventual metabolism and assimilation. It also increases the rate of absorption into the body of essential substances in food and is also used to transport all substances inside the body. Water also gives luster and shine to the eyes and makes the skin smooth and prevents aging.

Reasons we need to drink lots of water

Water increases the efficiency of red blood sells in collecting oxygen in the lungs.

Water clears toxic waste from different parts of the body and takes it to the liver and kidneys for disposal.

Water is the main lubricant in the joint spaces and prevents arthritis and back pain.

Water is the best lubricating laxative and prevents constipation.

Water prevents heart attacks and strokes.

Water prevents clogging of arteries in the heart and the brain.

Water is essential for the body’s cooling (sweat) and heating (electrical) systems.

Water gives us power and electrical energy for all brain functions, particularly thinking.

Water is directly needed for the production of all hormones made by the brain, including melatonin.

Water prevents attention deficit disorder in children and adults.

Water increases efficiency at work; it expands your attention span.

Water is a better pick-me-up than any other beverage in the world—and it has no side effects.

Water prevents stress, anxiety, and depression.

Water restores normal sleep rhythms.

Water prevents fatigue .

Water normalizes the blood-manufacturing systems in the bone marrow—it helps prevent leukemia and lymphoma.

Water is absolutely vital for making the immune system more efficient in different regions to fight infections and cancer cells where they are formed.

Water dilutes the blood and prevents it from clotting during circulation.

Water decreases premenstrual pains and hot flashes. .

The human body has no water storage to draw on during dehydration. This is why you must drink regularly throughout the day.

Dehydration prevents sex hormone production—one of the primary causes of impotence and loss of libido.

Drinking water separates the sensations of thirst and hunger.

To lose weight, water is the best way to go—drink water on time and lose weight without much dieting. Also, you will not eat excessively when you are only thirsty for water.

Dehydration causes deposits of toxic sediments in the tissue spaces, fat stores, joints, kidneys, liver, brain, and skin. Water will clear these deposits.

Water takes away the morning sickness of pregnancy.

. Water prevents the loss of memory as we age. It prevents Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Water reverses addictive urges, including those for caffeine, alcohol, and some addictive drugs.

Having recognized the benefits of water, then how much water does a person need to drink a day

Drink half of your body weight in ounces of water daily.
If you weigh 140 lbs, you need to drink 70 ounces of water daily.

Do not substitute water with caffeinated or alcoholic drinks, these are diuretics and will dehydrate you.
Every 6 ozs of caffeine or alcohol requires an additional 12 ozs of water to rehydrate you.

So drink your water daily for maximum health.

Hot Flashes

What are hot flashes?

When you're having a hot flash, you might experience:

A feeling of mild warmth to intense heat spreading through your upper body and face
A flushed appearance
A rapid heartbeat

Perspiration, mostly on the upper body
A chilled feeling as the hot flash subsides
Hot flashes vary in frequency — you may have several a day or just a few a week. These perimenopause symptoms can sneak up mildly and infrequently, when pre menopause women least expect them.

Pre-menopause women at the beginning of the perimenopause phase feel uncomfortable and out of sorts, without yet correlating their symptoms to perimenopause

Perimenopause, often referred to as pre-menopause, is the time before menopause actually takes place.
Perimenopause and its early menopause symptoms typically begin between 35 and 45.

The first perimenopause symptoms women typically experience are changes in their monthly cycle. Menstrual cycles in perimenopause might shorten or lengthen by a couple days. Periods might be lighter or heavier. Women might skip their periods for a month or more.

Hot flashes are another of the most common early menopause symptoms and can begin before women notice changes in their monthly cycle.

Each month can bring on a new set of premenopause symptoms. One month women might feel like jumping out of their skin. Another month they find themselves in bed crying half the morning. Muscles and joints might ache for no apparent reason. Some days the mental "fog" hangs.

These mild changes increase as women enter their 40s, with women typically entering menopause in their mid-40s and early 50s.

These early menopause symptoms occur as the body’s estrogen and progestin producing abilities wane to bring women out of their childbearing years. The declining and fluctuating hormone levels are the culprit of most of the perimenopause symptoms, as well as menopause symptoms

Here are some of the typical symptoms women experience

Hot flashes, flushes, night sweats and/or cold flashes, clammy feeling.
Bouts of rapid heart beat
Irritability
Mood swings, sudden tears
Trouble sleeping through the night
Irregular periods; shorter, lighter periods; heavier periods, flooding; phantom periods, shorter cycles, longer cycles
Loss of libido
Dry vagina
Crashing fatigue
Anxiety, feeling ill at ease
Feelings of dread, apprehension, doom
Difficulty concentrating, disorientation, mental confusion
Disturbing memory lapses
Incontinence, especially upon sneezing, laughing; urge incontinence
Itchy, crawly skin (see note)
Aching, sore joints, muscles and tendons
Increased tension in muscles
Breast tenderness
Headache change: increase or decrease
Gastrointestinal distress, indigestion, flatulence, gas pain, nausea
Sudden bouts of bloat
Depression
Exacerbation of existing conditions
Increase in allergies
Weight gain
Hair loss or thinning, head, pubic, or whole body; increase in facial hair
Dizziness, light-headedness, episodes of loss of balance
Changes in body odor
Electric shock sensation under the skin and in the head
Tingling in the extremities
Gum problems, increased bleeding
Burning tongue, burning roof of mouth, bad taste in mouth, change in breath odor
Osteoporosis (after several years)
Changes in fingernails: softer, crack or break easier
Tinnitus: ringing in ears, bells,buzzing

A Guide To Anti Aging

You Can Now Download Part 1
Absolutely Free

Do you worry about dry skin, injuries, smoke, sun, cold weather, tanning beds and other harmful elements in the world causing wrinkles to develop faster than nature allows?
