The hovering installations featured in this ongoing series of photographs are inspired by self-organizing, "emergent" systems in nature such as termite mounds, swarming locusts, schooling fish and flocking birds. The images attempt to tap the mixture of fear and fascination that those phenomena tend to evoke, while creating an uneasy interplay between the natural and the manufactured and the real and the imaginary. At the same time, each image is an experiment in juxtaposition. By constructing the installations from unexpected materials and placing them where they seem least to belong, I aim to tweak the margins of our visual vocabulary, and to invite fresh interpretations of everyday things.

Opening Night!

hellloooooooo!!! It has been a crazy whirlwind of a momth - putting the finishing touches on the store, working on a to do list the size of the wall of china and finally preparing for the hey that's nice opening party last Friday!

I basically took 1 picture the whole night! Thank goodness my side girl went snap happy because i'm not sure what I would have done without all of these magnificent (if spontaneous) photos and videos didn't exist. Also, there's a pink light which is why all the pics are pink, ha!

I have to say, it was 5 days ago and I'm still feeling it all sink in. Its hard to process...being at the pinnacle of making a dream a reality and now the road ahead. Part of me is like 'ok, i did it, i can relax now' but now the real work begins of building a business, showing up, and figuring out how to actually be successful, ha!

I honestly couldn't have done it without the support of everyone - from you and your encouraging words, to the friends i've told over the years that i've wanted to do this and their encouraging responses, to my close friends here who showed up and remained available for when i needed them to my boyfriend who spent so much time building the interior for me and who sometimes had to kick my butt out of the house when i was feeling overwhelmed. I didn't do it...all of us did it - and I'm totally feeling wrapped in support and love and good vibes. And the opening party was the perfect night to celebrate this - I didn't stop smiling.

So thank you. And thank YOU for being there along the way and your notes and follows and support.

happy monday!!!! above is me today after a great w/e!
i enjoyed my boyfriends birthday party on saturday, and since his out of town friends were here it turned in to a weekender - and now all of a sudden its monday. but it was such a nice time full of fun, positive happy people that my typical monday grumpiness had no effect, it was great!
then after work my friend made me go for a run...as i might have mentioned i've been totally off the workout train but this was a nice little kickstart. i couldn't even find my running clothes at first and then they smelled musty from the drawer, but hey - i made it and now am enjoying that post run energy...lets see how long it lasts?!
does my tendency to never use capital letters annoy you?

I guess that I'm super exhausted. Its not even 9pm and I think I'm going to go to sleep after I share this super vase by ceramics studio Apparatu. Who are you Apparatu???? There is hardly any information on your website, just pictures of work. But THIS is my favorite. And I'm so tired that I'm not even going to put more pictures you just have to go the website if you're more curious!

Sooooo it's Carnival (fasnacht) time in Luzern...which means the city goes crazy for a few days (but still, the garbage is picked up before people start going to work and the streets are pristine...which amazes me about switzerland). I love it - its such a fun relaxed atmosphere and the costumes are amazing. I don't know how this festival is overlooked by the rest of the world - but if you ever get a chance to visit Luzern during Fasnacht, do!!!!!

New Trend: Shadow Drink Photography

I'm totally delighted that my pinterest shows me all of these cool drink photos. Made me thirsty! And gave me something else to look at other than Maryam Nassir Zadeh shoes (which I have nothing against tho). The first couple were great and then all of a sudden they kept coming and I realize that A. I'm a slave to Pinterest, like the free people to Khaleesi and B. This actually is a new photo trend.

I somehow entered on this rabbit trail of these cool typography/design logos that I thought were so fun! I guess I never really paid attention to actual logos until I had to start thinking of my own logo...to me its so stressful - like how i imagine getting a tattoo would be. its why i never got one, how would i ever decide on something so permanent?
I also find that the more decisions I have to make lately the worse I get at making them. For instance, I'm deciding between 2 colors for my logo - and for the life of me...I can't decide. I'm overthinking things, you know? So its way more fun to look at everyone else's logos!

Shop Interiors

Yeah, so, hey that's nice should be opening in about a month! While I'm killing it on the product and buying side of things, the decorating the actual store side of things is. killing. me. It's by far the most stressful part of this whole venture. To me, every single detail is of mass importance because first impressions matter so much...and so I'm almost paralyzed with all the ideas i have and which direction to actually go in. To make matters worse, we put in a new floor and since I'm so bad an envisioning things I'm debating doing it again with another color. Its probably the least of things I should be focusing on (and spending money on) but for some reason it has me totally hung up. Its also hard to find the display things that I want...mostly because I just don't really know how to say certain things in german so it takes a lot of extra time to research everything. Couple all of this with the limited amount of time I have to get shit done...its just overwhelming at the moment. I admittedly had a bit of a tantrum this morning and spent most of Wesleys school hours lounging in bed freaking out. Winning on time management! But ok, it's now 3:30 pm and after a nap I think I'm out of those mental weeds a bit. Maybe it's the full moon?!

So anyway, I wanted to share some of the store interiors that I really like and am drawing inspiration from. What do you think? How much does the interior matter to you?? How much does the floor matter to you?? (i honestly can't remember one floor of a store, tbh).

aaand here's another healthy recipe.

i did yoga once since the last healthy recipe I posted. and I've at least thought a lot about eating healthy. but "honey" and "salmon" always reel me in. this recipe is from kims cravings

i have to warn you...she doesn't really explain how to make the salad thingy underneath. this drives me crazy in food bloggers. please tell me everything on the plate down to the extra lime i need for garnish.
i am truly an uncreative cook...wait, that's not true. the thing is...i just don't have time to cook. its not in my top priorities so when i want to cook something i just want the recipe and then i'm done. i could eat cereal every night...and so could wesley for that matter, but then i have the guilt. tbh we usually just eat some form of eggs or a quick pesto gnocchi or cheese burger pie (which is actually insanely good, i'll share the recipe next i think)

do you know what else drives me crazy about food bloggers? is the 15 paragraph long story before the actual recipe appears. drives me MENTAL. and they all say the SAME thing. like "i just whipped this up", etc. and then a long story about something not related to the food.

am i cranky today???

My favorite book of 2017/2018 and life

I always was like “I’m not a self help book type of person” until I read this book. Its my favorite book of 2017 and 2018 and I’ve made several people buy it. I’m reading it now for the 2^nd time and I NEVER waste time reading books a 2^nd time (there are so many books to read!).

This has got to seriously be the most motivating book in the entire world. I don’t know how he does it. He’s not giving you like “steps” but he’s giving you principles. And real life experience. And he reminds you that getting what you want is hard work and backs it up with his stories of failures and wins and how it all ties in to the big picture.

Please read this book. If anything it reminds you that life is not to be wasted and that we should be working as hard as we can to achieve our dreams and visions.

I didn't start January with any grand healthy eating gestures because for the past couple months I've been kind of enjoying being bad! having beer when i want! eating bread! not exercising! its legitimately fun. eventually i'll get it together but not quite yet (i'm usually pretty good, but lately im in this 'throwing caution to the wind' type mindset, starting a business, ok! drink beer whenever? ok!

Eye Glasses

I have been getting migraines a few times a month since I can remember (except when I was pregnant or doing whole30 - unfortunately, both of those are really hard to do consistently) - but for the last few months it seems like I've had a headache almost every single day and I realized that maybe things aren't as clear as I believe? So today I decided to spontaneously get an eye exam and now I need glasses :( Its nothing crazy but he says it will relax my eyes and when I wore the test ones I was SOLD. If this solves the headaches and migraines I'm going to go CRAZY. I'll be so happy.

What do you think of these styles? I guess I kind of have to have fun with it...like the clear or white...in round?!

Do you know of any good brands/styles? Fill me in!

Also...Stranger Things. I'm hooked.
