How to Make Origami Butterfly Earrings

I have a treat for you today. I will be showing you how to make a pair of Origami Butterfly Earrings. They are really beautiful…. and they are made out of paper. You are sure to get lots of compliments on them. You can choose to wear them yourself or give them as a gift… after all the Holidays are just around the corner. That is if you can part with these earrings. Laura from Dacian Moon Handmade will show you how to make these earrings step-by-step. So, let’s get started.

CRAFT MATERIALS NEEDED:

2 Paper Squares (about 4 inches x 4 inches).

2 Jump Rings.

2 Earstuds with Earnuts.

Step 1

Take one square of paper and fold it in half…

… just like the image below.

Step 2

Bring the right upper corner to the center of the opposite edge, as in the picture.

Step 3

Do the same with the upper left corner.

Step 4

Next, unfold the corners.

Step 5

And then turn the right corner inside…

… just like this.

Now do the same with the left corner like the image below.

Step 6

Now take the right lower corner and bring it to the top corner.

Do the same with the left lower corner.

Now it should look like the image below.

Step 7

Next, turn the paper upside down.

Then fold the top corner to the opposite edge, a little bit lower than the middle…

… like this.

Step 8

Then force the 2 corners flat.

Step 9

And fold it in half like in the picture.

It will look like this.

Step 10

Make sure you fold on the line…

… like this image below.

Now do the same on the other side.

Turn it upside-down and it should look like this.

Step 11

Model the wings with your fingers.

Now it looks like a little butterfly, doesn’t it? Now do all those steps again and make a second butterfly.

Step 12

Now you have two butterflies. Take a little hole in one corner…

… and put the jump ring in it.

Add the stud and the earring is ready. Do the same with the second butterfly.

Now you have your pair of Butterfly Earrings. Aren’t these earrings beautiful? They will look amazing on you. Or, have you decided to give them as a gift this Holiday Season? Whatever you decide they are sure to be a huge hit.

How to Make a Paper Spinner

I have a fun craft for you today. And, the cool part is it is just made with some standard paper and a pair of scissors. I am going to show you how to make a Paper Spinner. When made correctly you simply throw it up in the air and watch it spin gracefully the whole way down. I don’t know what’s more fun….. the making of the craft or playing with the craft once it is finished. So, grab some paper and a pair of scissors and let’s get started.

Materials Needed

Paper
Scissors

Step 1

About a quarter of the way down from the top edge of the long paper, cut two slits towards the center, leaving some space between the ends of the slits.

Step 2

Pleat one bottom section to the exact width of that space.

Step 3

Then fold the other bottom section around it. This produces a folded paper shape exactly like a letter “T,” the one unfolded part being the cross-at the top.

Step 4

To keep the folded segment firmly fixed, cut a short slit upwards from the bottom at the exact center. This should be about 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch in length, or even longer, with a large sheet of paper.

Step 5

Then fold one tab upward to the front, the other upward to the back, as in the image above. This holds the pleated portion in place, as required.

Step 6

Take the scissors and make a center cut down from the top of the “T” to the folded section.

Step 7

This forms two rectangular “blades” at the top. Fold one of these downwards to the front; the other downwards to the back. These folds are made along the short uncut strip where the cross-bar of the “T” joins the folded upright, or “post” of the spinner. This is shown in the image above. The fact that the blades are flimsy does not matter. On the contrary, it proves helpful towards the spinner’s flight.

Step 8

Holding the spinner with the post upright and the blades at the top, give it a short toss straight upward. As it descends, it will begin to spin, its rotary action slackening its fall. The folded tabs at the bottom set like stabilizers during the brief but intriguing flight. When dropped from a window, a spinner may cover more range before reaching the ground.

And, there you have it….. you just made a Paper Spinner. Isn’t it fun to play with?

How to Make Origami Boats

Today I’m going to show you how to make Origami Boats. When made with waterproof paper like waxed paper or cellophane these Origami Boats will actually float. Use them in the bathtub or in a puddle outside. Not only is this craft fun to make, but it is equally fun to play with the Origami Boat once made. You can even add toothpicks to the boat to give the illusion that the boat has oars. So, grab the materials needed for this craft and let’s get started.

Materials Needed

Waxed Paper, Cellophane, or Other Waterproof Paper, Toothpicks (optional)

Step 1.

Fold a square in half and crease…then unfold.

Step 2.

Bring lines A and B to center fold and crease.

Step 3.

Fold on diagonal dotted lines, bringing points C, D, E and F to the center line and crease.

Step 4.

Fold on dotted lines.

Step 5.

Fold again on dotted lines.

Step 6.

Turn boat inside out, holding folds carefully to prevent tearing.

Step 7.

Finished boat, ready for the bathtub or after-rain puddle. If you wish, use the toothpicks to make the boat look more authentic…. the toothpicks can be the oars. Enjoy!!

How to Make an Origami Dove

Today I’m going to show you how to make an Origami Dove. Dove represents a lot of things, especially peace, love, hope, purity and tranquility. It also means a new beginning. So, gather up the materials needed and let’s get started.

Materials Needed

white paper

colored pen

scissors

ribbon

glue

Step 1

First cut a square of white paper:

Then place it with a corner to you:

Then bring the left part over the right one:

Step 2

Bring the upper corner over the middle one, like this:

Then do the same for the lower corner:

Step 3

Turn the paper over:

Bring the upper corner over the lower one:

Fold the left corner over the piece, like this:

Unfold:

Then fold the lower corner over the piece:

Unfold. Now let’s make the wings. Open the right part like this:

And bring the lower corner to the left, following the crease you created. Press:

It should look like this:

Do the same on the other side:

Step 4

Now it is time for the beak. Fold the left corner on the back:

… like this. Press it well because it is thick enough that it will unfold itself:

Step 5

To make the tail, bring the right part down, like this:

… and press, like this:

Step 6

We will fold one wing down, like this, to make it look better:

Step 7

Using the colored pen draw an eye and decorate it the way you like. I wrote “Peace” on one wing:

Step 8

Apply a layer of glue on the ends of the ribbon:

… and place it between the back wing and the body.

How to Make an Origami Shamrock

I posted an Origami Shamrock tutorial a few years ago from another website and decided to update it. I know St. Patrick's Day came and went already. So, in honor of Shamrocks and St. Patrick’s Day I’m going to show you how to make an Origami Shamrock. This Origami Shamrock will be perfect to hang up for St. Patrick’s Day or even use as a bookmark. So, grab some Origami Paper and some glue and let’s get started with this craft.

Materials Needed:

5 Sheets Green Origami Paper, Glue.

Step 1.

Fold the sheet of paper in half to make the edges even.

Step 2.

Fold in half the other way now.

Step 3.

Turn it over.

Step 4.

Fold the bottom up to middle crease.

Step 5.

Turn it over.

Step 6.

Fold the bottom right corner up to the center crease.

Step 7.

Fold the bottom left corner up to the center line too.

Step 8.

Flip it over.

Step 9.

Bring the top right corner to the center line.

Step 10.

Now bring left top corner over to center line too.

Step 11.

Fold the top corner down to the crease line without folding white triangles on sides.

The paper should now look like this. Notice the white triangles are unfolded.

Step 12.

Fold the white triangles in on the inner edge of each triangle.

Like this.

Step 13.

Fold the 2 triangles on each side of the heart.

Like this.

Step 14.

Now fold down the top a bit to make it less pointy.

Step 15.

It should look like this.

Step 16.

Make four hearts and then place them like this.

Step 17.

For stem, place the origami paper green side down.

Fold both corner A and B to center line.

Now bring the left and right top sides down to the center line like seen here.

Fold in half as seen in next picture.

Like this.

Fold A down to B.

Like this.

Step 18.

Now place the triangle over hearts.

Step 19.

Glue all of it together.

Step 20.

Turn it over.

And, there you have it….you just finished your Origami Shamrock. Isn’t it adorable?

How to Make Paper Windmills with Paper Modelling Craft Instructions

Today, I will show you how to make a cute paper windmill. Below you will find two printable paper models. All you will need to do is cut and fold the model into the proper shape.

Below you will find 2 pages to print. These are diagrams to print out….then you will need to cut them out.

Fold on the dotted lines and glue on the tabs. The picture of the windmill (above) is what you will want your windmill to look like so base your folding on that picture.

You might want to draw windows / ladders on the windmill too…to make it unique to you. If you want your windmill to spin….you will need a paper fastener (one of those things that you push it through the paper and close it on the other side.)

Fold Toy Spinning Paper Tops

Paper Tops are fun and simple toys that can easily be made from materials found at home. To make it super easy, I've included two templates you can use...one black and white, and one colored. Just follow the step-by-step tutorial below:

Step 1.

You can make this spinning paper top by printing out this diagram template twice (black and white or color model) ... then cut out both of the hexagons that you printed out.

Step 2.

Each will have a triangle missing...this is what you are supposed to do. On each paper hexagon, tape the two sides together to make 5-sided pyramid.

Step 3.

After you have two paper 5-sided pyramids, place them base to base and then tape them together with Scotch tape (clear kind if you have it).

Step 4.

Then poke a hole in both of the tops of the pyramids. Then push a wooden safety match, half of a chopstick, or a pencil. Then have fun and spin away.

How to Make a Paper Tent Structure

These tents are perfect for children who love playing Cowboys and Indians or it can be used as a Boy Scout project.

Step 1:

Start off by first cutting out a circle for the bottom of the tent .... for example, 4-inch radius (the measurement from the center of the circle to the outside of the circle).

Step 2:

For the part of the tent that is shaped like a cone, you will want to draw another circle. We will want to cut out a circle that has a 4-inch radius. This entire circle will not be used...so to find out how much of the larger circle will be used, you will need to do the following trick.

Step 3:

Take the 2-inch radius circle and make a mark on it. Then roll this circle around the 4-inch radius circle, starting with the mark. Then turn it until the mark shows up again...you know that you have made one full turn then.

Step 4:

Make a few rectangle tabs sticking out of the outside of the circle. A stick can be used for the center of the tent. Then glue them to the base of the tent (smaller circle). Make a little toothpick flat and attach it to the top of the tent.

Fold Paper Umbrellas

Read the instructions above (via picture) or below to make a simple paper umbrella. You would think that it i hard to make, but really it isn't.

These umbrellas can be use with dolls or cocktails decorations. Instead of buying them, you can make your own!

Step 1

First trace a circle on a piece of colorful paper. Cut out the circle. Leave a tiny triangle cut out of the circle..as if there was a very tiny piece of pizza cut out of the circle.

Step 2

Now fold over the triangle into a triangle fold.

Step 3

Then fold over the other direction.

Step 4 and 5

Now fold it back behind the circle...the forward...then back...like an accordion fold until it looks like picture #5 above.

Step 6

Now open up the shape to look like picture #6 and glue the 2 sides together. Now let completely dry and then put a toothpick through the center of the paper to make a beautiful paper umbrella.

How to Make Origami Hearts

I felt today’s craft was fitting as Valentines Day is only a week away. You can use this Origami Heart for Valentines Day decorations, gift for someone special or perhaps use these Origami Hearts as the Valentines Day card itself. The only material you need for this craft is Origami paper…. that’s it. So, grab some paper and let’s get started.

Materials Needed: Origami Paper. Check here for recommended origami papers.

Step 1:

Fold paper in half.

Step 2:

Fold in half other way now.

Step 3:

Turn over.

Step 4:

Fold bottom up to middle crease.

Step 5:

Turn over.

Step 6:

Fold bottom right corner up to center crease.

Step 7:

Fold bottom left corner up to center line too.

Step 8:

Flip over.

Step 9:

Bring top right corner to center line.

Step 10:

Now bring left top corner over to center line too.

Step 11:

Fold top corner down to crease line without folding white triangles on sides.

The paper should now look like this. Notice white triangles are unfolded.

Step 12:

Fold white triangles in on the inner edge of each triangle.

Like this.

Step 13:

Fold 2 triangles on each side of heart.

Like this.

Step 14:

Fold down top a bit to make less pointy.

Now turn paper over and you have your Origami Heart. And, there you go…. you just finished your Origami Heart.

Folding Toy Paper Train Whistles

Material Needed:

Go and get a piece of paper in the color that you want for your whistle. Check here for recommended origami papers.

Step 1:

Now fold it into 4 equal parts the long way, as you can see in figure 1.

Step 2.

Now go and get your scissor. Cut a diamond hole in the center fold, pictured in figure 2.

Step 3.

Now place this front fold upon your mouth and blow into it. You will immediately hear an amazing train whistle. No, there isn't a train in your house, that was you making that noise.

How to Make Paper Flowers – Make a Daisy for Mom on Mothers Day

Oh no! Mother’s Day is coming up and you didn’t make your Mom a Mother’s Day present!!! No worries…here is a fun and easy craft that will knock the socks off of your mother. This paper flower craft sort of looks like a daisy, but you can use any colors you want to make it look like any type of flower. Find out how to make this paper daisy below.

Crafts Materials Needed:

Colorful Paper

Scissors

Step 1

Take a long strip of colorful paper and roll it up as in the picture seen above. Now paste the rolled paper shut.

Step 2

Now cut slits in one end of the rolled paper tube.

Step 3

Now flatten out the slitted side and turn it upside down, as seen in the picture below.

Step 4

This part is a little hard to explain, but basically take a small piece of colorful paper (in the finished picture this part would be orange) and twist it into a rounded stump.

Step 5

Now put this rounded stump into the center of the flatten flower.

Step 6

Now take a narrow strip of green paper. Paste one end on the short stump below the flower. Start twisting the strip round and round, each time a little more downward, in a spiral fashion…as seen in the pic below.

Step 7

Now get a green piece of paper and fold it forwards/backwards/forwards/backwards, etc like an accordion.

Step 8

Now draw the shape of half of a leaf on top of the fold and then cut it out. You will now gets tons of leaves out of this.

Step 9

Flatten out the leaves and then work them into the spiral folds on the stem as seen in the picture below.
