Archery Instructor Training

Register Now for Archery Instructor Training!

Each year the archery range is a center of enthusiastic participation by campers ages 7 to 77! If you’re someone who has enjoyed archery at camp and would like to become involved as an instructor, here’s how:

Teaching archery at Camp Li-Lo-Li requires a USA Archery Level I instructor certification. This nationally recognized course will enable you to serve as an archery instructor at camp and elsewhere. The stated purpose of the Level I certification is, “To introduce how to teach archery to a new instructor, who has most likely never shot before.” Scope of training includes safety, range setup, basic equipment setup and repair, and teaching the basic steps of shooting. The certification process consists of approximately 50% classroom training and 50% hands-on instruction at the archery range.

Mark White will be teaching the course at camp Friday, July 27th (arrive by 6 pm) to Saturday, July 28th at 6 pm. Camp Li-Lo-Li will cover the cost of the training materials provided, which includes receiving the certification card (good for 3 years) immediately at the conclusion of the training, as well as provide all other necessary equipment.

This training is open to anyone age 15 or older. You are able to be both a counselor (or other staff position) AND be an archery instructor at the same session of Camp. You must be 18 years old to be able to open the archery range.

Looking for 2018 Volunteer Staff!

We have many positions available at Camp for this summer.

Over the past 65 years, thousands of campers have been impacted by hearing the gospel at Camp. Perhaps you were one of the many "Changed Lives through Jesus Christ!"

We're grateful for each of you who have served at Camp, and would love to see many of you back this season. Feel free to apply for a position you've done before, or try something new! Choose your favorite sessions, or one new to you.

Have someone you want to serve alongside? Encourage them to apply, too!

We have simplified our online staff application process, and have provided new instructions.

Work Days Update

A heartfelt thank you to all who have helped us out at Camp this spring! We've had two official work days so far, plus some great help on other days.

The main project at our April work day was getting wood cut, split, and stacked to be ready for campfires this summer. We had a terrific crew come down from Cornerstone Bible Chapel.

At our May work day, we were able to get the storage container completely emptied into the new Craft Cabin! There is still some organizing to be done, but we are thrilled with this tremendous progress, which could not have been accomplished without our many volunteers.

Wilderness and CPR Training

Wilderness and CPR Training

This year, we're offering Wilderness and CPR training at Camp.

These are not re-certifications, but are NEW certifications, either for those who have never taken the course before, or those who have let their certification lapse. Both courses will be taught by Lori White.

Wilderness

Wilderness and Remote First Aid (WRFA) is a 16-hour course designed to prepare trip leaders, camp staff, and outdoor enthusiasts for medical emergencies they might encounter in the outdoors. Students will learn how to recognize and assess emergencies and treat an ill or injured person in areas where emergency medical services may be delayed or inaccessible. WRFA lasts for three years before a re-certification is required.

Start: Friday, June 29 at 7 pm

End: Saturday, June 30 at 4 pm

Meals: Breakfast & Lunch Provided

Who: Wranglers, Ropes Staff, and anyone else taking campers into the tree line, such as for hikes.

Age: 15+

Fee: Book $18.95, Card Fee $6 ($24.95 total)

CPR

CPR certification can help you provide assistance when someone is faced with a cardiac or breathing emergency. It requires yearly re-certification.

Start: Saturday, July 7 at 10 am

Who: Wranglers, Ropes Staff, Lifeguards, and Nurses - but is open to all.

Age: 15+

Fee: Book $10.10, Mask $6.25, Card Fee $6 ($22.35 total)

Ropes Course Training

Ropes Course Training

UPDATE: Ropes Course Training will be held June 1-2, 2018, rather than the previously advertised May weekend. There's still time to sign up!

We are blessed at Camp Li-Lo-Li with terrific facilities for our campers to enjoy, but many of our activities cannot be offered without enough trained staff.

One of the most popular activities at Camp is our Ropes program - low ropes course, high ropes events, and activities at the climbing tower. It would be great if we could offer all of these events to campers at each of our sessions, as well as to our guest groups. Each of our events requires 2-4 trained staff to open, and we'd love to have more volunteers join our team.

We're offering Ropes Course Training June 1-2, 2018, both for returning ropes staff, and for anyone who would like to start training to be on our ropes team!

For our existing ropes staff, this weekend serves as continuing education and review.

For those interested in being on our ropes staff, this is the weekend for you to get started! Minimum age is 15. At most sessions, you can be on the ropes staff in addition to holding another position, such as counselor - no need to choose.

David Larter and Mark White will be teaching the training at Camp.

They'll get started at the Climbing Tower at 8 pm on Friday, June 1, so you may want to arrive before then to get settled into housing and make your way up to the tower. Breakfast and lunch will be provided on Saturday, and the training will wrap up at 5 pm.

Spring Work Days

Summer will be upon us before you know it! There's a lot to be done in the valley to get Camp in shape for spring guest groups and our 2018 summer season, so we've planned three spring work days for this year:

Saturday, April 21 - Firewood Cutting, Splitting and Stacking
Saturday, May 12 - Craft Cabin Move-In
Saturday, June 16 - General Work Day

April 21st, we'll be focusing on firewood cutting, splitting, and stacking, but we will have other projects that can be worked on as well.

May 12th, our main project will be moving in to the new Craft Cabin! We have a storage container full of items that were removed from the old craft cabin before it was torn down. These items need to be moved into the new Craft Cabin and organized on shelves.

There are many jobs available for guys and gals of all ages and skill levels, so bring a friend, some teens from your chapel, or arrange to meet up with someone you'd like to work with!

Projects include:

Exterior Painting of cabins and residences
Repairs to the Bridge in the girls area
Repairs to Corral Fences
Repairs to Fort Seneca
Clearing of Horse Trails
Cleaning and Gardening
Picking up sticks

With the recent high winds, there are plenty of sticks and limbs to be picked up around Camp, so feel free to bring the kids!

We'll get started first thing in the morning, and lunch will be provided. Please email Jon Benson at director@liloli.org if you're planning to attend any of the Work Days.

If you'd like to come a different date than the three available, email Jon, and he'll coordinate a time for you.

It takes a lot to keep Camp looking great and functioning safely for our campers, staff and guests, and we couldn't accomplish all that we need to do without our volunteers.

Our directors, speakers, and other key staff are already hard at work planning meaningful and memorable experiences for you this summer! Our theme for this year is, "When they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only." Matthew 17:8

CIT (Christian Intensive Training / Counselor In Training)

Christian Intensive Training (CIT)

Camp Li-Lo-Li will again be having the Christian Intensive Training (or Counselor in Training) program this year. We call it Christian Intensive Training to emphasize that the program is about training us to be servants of the Lord Jesus, at camp and at home, not just training to be counselors.

CIT is intended to be both challenging and encouraging for everyone involved. The goal of is to encourage CITs in greater appreciation for the Lord and what He has done for us and to train them up in service for Him. The training is good for anyone who has a desire to draw closer to Him and to serve Him, particularly at Camp Li-Lo-Li. Much of this training is focused on the Counselor aspect of serving at camp, but not limited to that.

The CIT program is limited to approximately 20 participants with a mix of guys and girls. If you desire to participate in CIT, you must apply. The application process is designed to help us understand your relationship with the Lord and your desire to serve Him.

In order to participate in CIT, you must be 15 years old by the time CIT ends, which is July 14^th. Some exceptions to the timing of turning 15 will be allowed. If you are in that situation or have any other questions, please let me know. There is no upper age limit.

CIT for this summer is scheduled to start on Sunday, July 1, 2018 and end on Saturday, July 14, 2018.

Family Camp Week 2018

Christmas is past, winter has set in, and you may be starting to think about things to do with your family in warmer months to come. How about a family vacation to Camp Li-Lo-Li this year?

Family Camp Week provides a refreshing retreat time for families to enjoy together. The beauty and freedom of our rural camp setting, Christian ministry and fellowship, and a wealth of wholesome and fun activities to engage in, freed from many pressures and distractions of daily life, are the framework for a great family experience.

Camp Li-Lo-Li Winter Retreats are exciting weekends where campers can enjoy plenty of seasonal activities, both indoors and out. Bible stories and teaching are always incorporated into the fun. Come and see your friends from summer camp and meet new ones!

Campers sleep in comfortable heated facilities accessible to modern washrooms. Campers should bring their own bedding, towels, and plenty of warm clothes.

Registration begins at 7 pm Friday evening (no supper will be provided), and the weekend ends after lunch on Sunday. Check out is at 1 pm. Cost is $70, but a $5 discount will be applied to those who register by December 31.

We hope many of you will come enjoy the beauty of Camp this January!

Fall Projects

Several major projects are underway at Camp this fall!

Craft Cabin

The old craft cabin served us well for many decades, but the time had come to replace it. In addition to being in disrepair, it had issues with mold and various creatures making themselves at home. During craft times, it was often overcrowded, and due to the building’s design, there was not an easy line of sight to the campers and staff. The crafting area was not large enough to get out of the rain or other inclement weather, and access to the attic storage was dangerous.

Design of the new craft cabin was well thought out. All campers and staff will be working in the same area, at tables under a large pavilion-style roof. There will be garage doors on the west side that can come down for protection during bad weather.

The inner area will include a large workroom (not accessible to campers), and a heated storage area for items that freeze in winter, such as paints. There will be a sink and stove, and room for storage of current crafts and supplies. In addition, there will be lots of electrical outlets (eliminating the safety hazard of multiple extension cords), and several windows for light in the inner work areas.

The large attic is easily accessible by staff, and has plentiful space for additional storage.

When it’s not craft time, the pavilion area of the craft cabin can be used for other things, such as CIT classes, Bible studies, prayer times, getting out of inclement weather (or too much sunshine), and winter storage.

Staff Cabin

A major overhaul is being undertaken of the cabin formerly known as the dining room girls’ cabin (going forward, we plan to have new names or numbers for our various staff accommodation buildings). We were able to use the foundation of the old cabin, and made the inner area larger by incorporating the former porch into the interior. It is similar to the director’s cabin in that it has two separate sides, each accessible by an exterior door on the east side. Each side will be able to house several people, and each side will have its own bathroom with shower, sink, and toilet. The design allows for multiple housing options, whether for use by male and female staff on opposite sides, all one gender on both sides, or for married couples, families, or speakers. It will also be great during retreats and winter camps to have the flexibility of this space.

Store

The roof of the store has been replaced, and we’re working on the road drainage issue, to prevent flooding the store basement.

Chapel

The covered porch area outside the chapel now has a concrete floor! This may seem like a minor upgrade, but it is already having a major impact. Cleaning of the chapel floor is much easier without the gravel and stones being tracked in, and the distracting crunching noise of those entering or exiting during services is eliminated.

Be praying for our Camp employees and volunteers as they labor to complete these projects while cold weather sets in.

Summer Round-Up Program Choices for 2017

Summer Round-Up is a specialty week that lets campers ages 11-16 focus on the activity they love most! When registering online, campers choose one program area (this year's choices listed below). They will spend at least three hours a day on their chosen activity, but have the opportunity for other activities during optional and free times.

It's best to register early, as each of the program choices has a maximum number of campers, and some of them fill up quickly! We often have campers (ages 11-16) attend a Pre-Teen or Teen session, and then return for Round-Up. This is welcome and encouraged. Round-Up this year will be held August 13-19.

For 2017, our seven Round-Up program choices are:

Horsemanship (several skill levels available) led by Jackie Gefell and Cathie Whitcomb. Each day, campers have a ground class, a ring class, and a trail ride.

Marksmanship/Riflery (ages 12+) led by Dan Lee. Campers can expect to improve their marksmanship skills and have a lot of fun under Dan's intense and enthusiastic tutelage.

Archery led by Philip Sidwell. Phil is new to our archery staff and is looking forward to taking on leadership of this popular choice. There will be balloons involved. :)

Ropes Course/Climbing Tower led by David Larter with new assistant Ben Stein. Dave's curriculum is always a winner with campers who choose this program. Expect to be stretched as you try out our numerous events, and to leave with increased confidence.

Crafts led by Ruth Nieboer. Ruth does a great job of choosing interesting crafts that campers can work on all week. Expect to make something you'll be really proud of to take home.

Pinewood Derby Cars led by Stacy Bodder. If you like making these cars, you can't go wrong with this choice. Stacy brings a level of craftsmanship to everything he does.

Camping Challenge led by Bethany Greer. This group sleeps in tents rather than cabins, and cooks many of their own meals over the fire. Bethany is quite experienced in outdoor camping and cooking skills, and brings a lot of enthusiasm to the group.

New director Stephen March has chosen "You shall know..." as our theme for Round-Up 2017!

Throughout time and His word, God has been revealing His character, nature, and that of His Son Jesus to mankind in various ways. Join us this week as we open the Bible and enjoy His creation to learn about who God is, who Jesus is, what He's done, and why it really matters that we shall know He is Lord of all.

Our theme verse is Jeremiah 9:23-24. "Thus says the LORD: "Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD who practices steadfast love, justice and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the LORD."

In addition to our regular chapel times, campers will also participate in a small group Bible study each day. This is a great week of fun and faith!

Introducing Mr & Mrs Gefell!

Josiah and Jackie Gefell are Camp's newest residents!

Both are from the Rochester, NY area - Josiah grew up at Northgate Bible Chapel, and the former Jackie Clark at Webster Bible Church. Both were campers and CITs, and have been volunteer staff at Li-Lo-Li for many years.

The couple first met as campers at the archery range during Round-Up 2010, just after Jackie finished CIT. They were WITs (Wranglers in Training) together in 2011 after Josiah CIT'd, and officially began dating in 2013.

Josiah has been living and working at Camp since the fall of 2015, when he came on as an intern. He was hired as our newest Property Employee this past November. Josiah will continue assisting our Property Manager, Stacy Bodder, with the many tasks required to keep our buildings and grounds updated, safe, and attractive.

Jackie graduated this May from Houghton College with a bachelor's degree in Equine Facility Management (seems relevant!). She is CHA certified, which, among other things, means that she is able to teach and certify students in both English and Western riding. Currently she is a CHA Level 3 Equine Facility Manager, and a Level 2 English & Western riding instructor.

Josiah and Jackie were married June 3, 2017, at the Li-Lo-Li Corral. Jon Benson officiated, followed by a reception at the Lodge. After honeymooning in the Adirondacks, these nature-loving newlyweds are settling into the newly updated West Residence.

While Josiah keeps busy at numerous locations around Camp, Jackie can most often be spotted at the corral, or caring for our beautiful hanging flowers. She will also be transitioning into the role of Horse Program Director over the next few years, working with Ted Fox to eventually take on this position and continue the decades of effort he has put into the corral.

Please be praying for Josiah and Jackie as they adjust to married life and settle into their home as our busy summer season begins. Give them a warm welcome and congratulations when you see them at Camp this summer!

Pre-Teen Camp Begins in One Week!

It's hard to believe, but our Pre-Teen sessions begin in just one week! Pre-Teen weeks are for ages 8 1/2 to 13. Campers are welcome to attend one week or more!

At this time, we still have room in all three sessions, but they are continuing to fill, so don't delay in registering!

From the time campers get up in the morning until they crash into their bunks at nights, each day is filled with faith, friends and fun! As well as time in the Word of God at chapel and in the cabins, there is plenty of time for optional activities such as team sports, horseback riding, riflery, fishing, canoeing, swimming, ropes course, climbing tower and crafts. Our Pre-Teen sessions also offer a unique Achievement program that teaches campers valuable outdoor skills.

Pre-Teen 1 will be directed by Art Manning and Stephen March.

Their theme for this year is Beginnings. Campers will learn about beginnings such as creation, the fall of man, forgiveness in Christ, and the new heaven and earth.

Pre-Teen 2's director is Colin Ritchie, assisted by Grant Saxton.

Throughout the week, special guests like the Chicken Man, Count Chocula, and Buddy the Elf will stop by to deliver special surprises. Chapel times will focus on the stories of Deborah, Gideon and Samson. We’ll consider God's grace, mercy, encouragement, and deliverance in the lives of these unlikely heroes and His people.

Pre-Teen 3 will be directed by Gary Foster and Jon Tietz, with special speaker Nate Thomas.

Nate Thomas will be using the woman and the lost coin, the son that was lost, and the lost sheep. Each day we'll be "In search of the lost mine of Sunfish Valley" with Pennsylvania Jones, Sylvania Jon, & Pa Tim, in search of the lost map that will lead us to the abandoned gold mine! We're told that Digger the 49er and the Ladies of the Lake will be along this year.

CPR Recertification

We are pleased to offer CPR re-certification for those that will be working at camp this summer and need to have their certification kept up to date. The NYS Health Department requires that the CPR certification is renewed annually.

Lifeguard Training

July 27-30, 2017

Start: Thursday, July 27th by 6 pm

End: Noon on Sunday, July 30th

This will be a Red Cross blended course which includes a 7.5 hour online course which you will need to do prior to arriving at camp and a 19 hour practical skills portion at Camp Li-Lo-Li!

You must be 15 years or older to participate!

In order to participate, you need to register online no later than June 27th and you must contact Betsy McIntee at betsy@liloli.org to confirm your place and to receive more information regarding the online portion.

Prerequisite Skills

Certain skills are required prior to joining the lifeguard training. These are:

Must be able to swim 550 yards continuously using the front crawl and breaststroke. Your whip kick must be efficient.
Tread water for 2 minutes using only your legs.
Complete a timed event within 1 minute 40 seconds.
Start in the water, swim 20 yards - goggles not allowed!
Surface dive to the bottom of the pool and retrieve a 10 lb brick.
Return to the surface, swim 20 yards on the back to the starting point with both hands holding the object.
Exit the water without using the ladder or stairs.
Swim 5 yards, submerge and retrieve three dive rings placed five yards apart.

Archery Instructors Needed! We Will Train You – Register Now!

Each year the archery range is a center of enthusiastic participation by campers ages 7 to 77! If you’re someone who has enjoyed archery at camp and would like to become involved as an instructor, here’s how:

Teaching archery at Camp Li-Lo-Li requires a USA Archery Level I instructor certification. This nationally recognized course will enable you to serve as an archery instructor at camp and elsewhere. The stated purpose of the Level I certification is, “To introduce how to teach archery to a new instructor, who has most likely never shot before.” Scope of training includes safety, range setup, basic equipment setup and repair, and teaching the basic steps of shooting. The certification process consists of approximately 50% classroom training and 50% hands-on instruction at the archery range.

Mark White will be teaching the course at camp Friday, July 28th (arrive by 6 pm) to Saturday, July 29th at 6 pm. The cost of the training materials is $30 per person, which includes receiving the certification card (good for 3 years) immediately at the conclusion of the training. All other necessary equipment will be provided by camp. This training is open to anyone age 15 or older. You are able to be both a counselor (or other staff position) AND be an archery instructor at the same session of Camp. You must be 18 years old to be able to open the archery range.

Family Camp is coming quickly! Join us for fellowship, food, fun and Bible teaching!

July 1-July 8, 2017

Family Camp Week provides a refreshing time for families to enjoy together. The beauty and freedom of our rural camp setting, excellent Christian ministry and fellowship, and sharing wholesome and fun activities together freed from many pressures and distractions of daily life are the framework for a great family experience. Of course, singles are welcome too!

The Family Camp schedule centers around morning and evening chapel times, featuring group singing and outstanding Bible teaching. A separate children's ministry program is offered for campers aged 4-12 years during chapel times, as well as a nursery for those under 4. See the bios of the speakers at the bottom of this blog.

Along with chapel times and meal times (you don't have to cook!) the schedule is free for you to enjoy the many activities provided, or just relax.

Some of the activities typically available include swimming, boating, horseback riding, crafts, archery, riflery, nature hikes, climbing tower, zip line, challenge course group activities and many team games, as well as catching up with friends or making new ones.

2017 Family Camp Speakers

Sandy McEachern

Sandy has taught the Scriptures for many years - locally, in North America and also internationally. He has served on the board of Uplook Ministries, involved in the Upward Bound Bible Conference since its inception, was the director of Galilee Bible Camp for 10 years and is currently the editor of Choice Gleanings daily devotional calendar. Besides a Masters Degree in History, Sandy also studied Apologetics / History at Oxford University for a year. He is the President of a property development company that specializes in residential condominium communities. He and his wife Louise reside near Elora, Ontario, Canada.

Bob Hayes

Bob and his wife, Judy, live in New Jersey and have been involved in ministry throughout their married lives. Bob received his Masters Degree from Dallas Seminary where his concentration was Biblical languages. Bob has served as an elder at Valley Bible Chapel in Washington Township, NJ for the past 25+ years and was commended to full time work at that church in 2004. Bob has been ministering God's word in various churches and at conferences for 45 years and has been involved at Pine Bush Bible Camp for almost 20 years. He currently divides his time between speaking, teaching, counseling, and camp work. He and Judy have three mostly grown children; Erin, recently returned from missionary service in South America, now married and living in Mississippi, Jim, married with two children, living in NJ and working in the field of genetics, and Jon, together with his wife and 8 month old son, serving in Niger (West Africa) as missionaries. Judy is actively involved in the life of the assembly and is also a 2nd Grade classroom teacher. She is making plans to retire her teaching position after another year in the classroom.

Successful Work and Ropes Course Training Day!

Another successful Work Day is in the books! Over 40 people came to Camp on Saturday, May 20th, for our annual work day. A variety of projects were continued or completed by a great group of guys and gals between the ages of 5 and 85!

Multiple skills required

One big project was splitting and stacking wood for our summer campfires. We had a dozen lumberjacks hard at work all day on this.

Lots of gardening

A group of girls painted the fence at the corral, along with Jackie and her parents. Carpentry repairs were made to the lodge porch, grading work was done in the boys area, while others worked on weeding, office tasks and more. We had several lovely ladies work to clean and organize the kitchen and also kept everyone well-fed for the meals and providing snacks at the work sites!

At the same time, we had another successful Ropes Training day. Dave Larter spent the day continuing to train our current ropes staff, while Mark White took on a group of new ropes staff to, well, show them the ropes!

We also had a homeschool Sr. Class trip at camp this past week and part of their time here they finished many of the projects that were started on the work day including finishing up all the work on the splitting and stacking of wood and completed the painting of the fence and gates at the corral!

We don't remember ever having all the wood splitting and stacking done this soon before camp! We are so thankful for all that worked so hard!

Couldn’t make it to the Work Day this time? There’s still plenty to do. If you have a free day in the next month, let us know and Stacy will be glad to give you a project.

Our summer sessions begin two months from today, and our spring guest groups start arriving in three weeks! There’s a lot to do in the valley to get Camp looking great and ready for the 2017 season.

Our annual Camp Work Day will be Saturday, May 20.

We have a lot of jobs available for guys and gals of all ages and skill levels! Tasks include splitting wood, moving boats to the lake, washing windows, picking up sticks, indoor cleaning, and much more.

It’s a great opportunity to catch up with a friend or get to know someone new while you serve alongside each other. So grab a buddy, some teens from your chapel, or arrange to meet up with a friend there, and come on out to Camp Saturday, May 20th.

We’ll get started first thing in the morning, and lunch will be provided. Email Jon Benson at director@liloli.org if you’re planning to come. Looking forward to seeing many of you then!

Ropes Course Training

for Experienced Leaders and Helpers!

Saturday, May 20th

Camp Li-Lo-Li is blessed with terrific facilities and activities for our campers, staff, and guests to enjoy in the valley we so love.

One of the areas currently in great need of trained staff is the Ropes Course, including the Climbing Tower and the Zip Line. It’s important to have enough trained Ropes staff at each session so that all campers who want to participate in these events are able to do so. We’re praying the Lord will raise up several new Ropes team members this season.

Being a part of our Ropes team gives you the opportunity to serve our guest groups throughout the spring and fall, as well as being a part of our summer sessions.

Team members need to be at least 15 years old to assist, and 18 years old to open the course (once trained). It is possible to be both a counselor (or other staff area) AND serve at the Ropes Course during the same session - no need to choose!

We’ll be having a training session at Camp on Saturday, May 20th, starting first thing in the morning.
