I know I haven't been posting much lately,

and for that I am sorry.

I promise that I will catch up next week!

3 1/2 more days of school

and I have been

CRAZY BUSY!

This weekend I have been a printing and laminating FOOL!

We started out brainstorming what we would have to do to be a dog.

Then we wrote a poem similar to Gina's.

I was planning on the Mother's Day version,

but then I got the idea to have them write to the incoming fourth graders,

I think they came out great!

I am going to have them on display for our Showcase Night next week.

Now we are working on the Mother's Day ones.

Organization, Extreme Sports, and a Mother's Day Freebie

OK, so I mentioned that I got a new mounted projector

and that I had to rearrange my classroom

(3 weeks before the end of school.)

I went in to school today to work on putting my room back together.

I still have a LOT more to do,

but I did accomplish quite a bit today.

What do you get for the man who has everything

(because he buys it for himself?)

I have a terrible time picking out gifts for my hubby!

He's had skydiving on his bucket list,

so for Christmas last year I got him a tandem jump

and this indoor skydiving experience for the family.

Well, yesterday we headed out to have a go at it.

Here's what the place looks like...

It's a giant wind tunnel.

Here we are after our experience...

Unfortunately all four of us were inside the air chamber,

so there wasn't anyone to take our picture while we were "in flight."

We did get a video though that shows us all in action.

It was a lot of fun, but it is harder than it looks!

I also got the hubs and my son a Rusty Wallace Racing Experience out at P.I.R.

They went a few weeks ago and got to drive (Ben) and ride along (Scott)

in a race car.

Can't believe it is MAY already!

13 1/2 days left of school!

So much to do and not enough time!

That is the story of my life lately!

Last week we had an Arbor Day celebration with the City of Glendale and the kids shared their Arbor Day Posters and got to help plant trees in the park next to our school.

Wednesday we had a field trip

The kids watching for our school and their pictures on the jumbo tron.

Thursday was Field Day!

and finally...

The good news is our district has installed ceiling mounted projectors in all of the classrooms.

The bad news is that I have to rearrange my desk and computer area to accommodate the changes -

Three weeks before the end of school!

This is a lot of stuff to reorganize on top of everything else I have to do in the next couple of weeks.

Going in tomorrow to work on it before the kids come back on Monday.

My tried it is actually Instagram.

I take a LOT of pictures in my classroom!

But, I am probably one of the few people left who actually use a CAMERA!

So I played around with Instagram today to post pics from our

AMAZING pond dedication.

One of our beloved teachers passed away earlier this year.

Some of her best friends at school came up with the idea to create this

~~beautiful~~ GORGEOUS mosaic hummingbird mural.

It was designed by our incredibly talented art teacher

and fashioned out of love by Pammy's friends.

The picture is beautiful, but it is breathtaking in person.

The mural was put up in an area of the school known as the pond.

It has now been renamed "Pammy's Pond"

and dedicated in loving memory to our friend Pam Terry.

Here are some more pics of the pond area.

There are fish, turtles, a frog and a few other "visitors."

Hummingbird feeders are hung all over the area.

You can definitely feel Pam's spirit there as well as the love of her friends.

What a way to keep her memory alive!

It's About Time!

Telling time, that is !

In the new Common Core Standards, there is nothing for time in 4th grade

BUT,

we still test it, and some of the kids still need LOTS of practice.

So, we are spending a couple of days reviewing telling time to the minute and elapsed time.

I started out with this cute freebie that I got from Alison over at Teaching Maths With Meaning.

Each student made and labeled their own clock to use for practice.

Next we worked on my High Flying Time Activities

You can get it here.

We started out by practicing reading and showing time on our own clocks.

I showed the slides from the file.

The kids showed that time on their individual clocks.

Then they wrote the time on individual white boards.

Finally, they had an independent practice page (from the High Flying Time file.)

They did a great job!

Tomorrow we will play the High Flying Time Memory Game (included in the file)

and start working on Elapsed Time.

I have so much catching up to do!

I feel like I have not shared anything from my classroom in a LONG time!

I will start off by linking up with Kacey over at Doodle Bugs Teaching for her Five for Friday Linky.

Here are five random things from this week.

It was Testing Week! My least favorite week of the year!

The kids' too!

I had snacks and treats for the kids every day this week.

They wanted to know if we could have snacks EVERY day!

I don't really have pics, but I did make up these Pinterest inspired goodies.

Here is a picture of just how crazy my desk area is at work! I have just been piling things up all week.

I did go in to work for several hours and worked on it today, but I still have a LOT to do!

The kids earned a Pajama Day in our Apex Fun Run fundraiser. They raised over $70/lap!

Our class got second place in the school.

(the picture is actually from LAST week since we were testing this week.)

We have also been learning about Arbor Day this week. Next week we are having a celebration with the city to plant a tree in the park next to our school. The kids made these posters for decorations for the event.

For a change of pace after all of the testing this week, we headed outside in the

GORGEOUS spring weather to do our reading.

I even surprised them with POPSICLES!

It was a great way to end a very busy week!

The Magical Product Swap!

For this amazing swap, I had the honor and privilege of swapping with

Kristin is a fourth grade teacher who has the awesome fortune to have 1:1 laptops for her students. She is passionate about teaching and about integrating technology into her lessons. For the swap I chose her Doggie Decimal Bundle

We were just finishing up our decimals unit AND it was testing week!

What a fun way to lighten things up and review!

My kids ♥LOVED♥ the activities!

We started out with the BUMP games (which I had never used before.)

They were so easy to use!

All you need are dice and colored counters.

We started out with the identifying decimals with place value models set.

Then we moved on to the word to number form set.

They are bright, colorful, and very engaging for the kids!

I think they would have played all day if I let them!

On another day we used the task card set.

My desk were all arranged in rows due to testing,

so the kids did not have room to move around to play the "Scoot" version.

I changed it up a bit and we played a "Pass It!" version.

Each student had a card on their desk and the answer sheet.

When I said "GO!" they turned over their card and solved the problem,

then placed the card face down on the desk to indicate that they were finished.

When all the cards were face down, I called "Pass It!" and they passed to the person behind them.

They had a BLAST!

They keep asking to do it again!

I am thrilled to have been able to swap for these activities!

I completely recommend them!

and it changes the way I teach!

Well, for me, it was

Reading Olympians!

I had been hearing about it and seeing pieces of it

and thought to myself

Hmmm, that looks interesting,

but I really didn't consider using it myself,

until the Pass the Torch Linky came about.

I signed up and decided to check it out for myself.

So I joined up With Michelle Tsvigadellis, Krista Miller, and Julie Kiss,
The Reading Olympians themselves!

Well....

I'm sold!

I'm a believer!

What took me so long?

What fun we had with it this week!

I started with the first lesson,

The Nike List

I told the kids we were going to try a new approach to vocabulary

and explained about why it was important to them as readers,

and then we dove in!

I made this anchor chart to display in the classroom.

Nike is the orange list, so I made my anchor chart orange!
(I even bought the clip art so it would all coordinate.)

We took a look at the student handouts and learned the raps for the first two word parts.

Then I sent them to their desks to work on the Nike Packet.

They were having a hard time coming up with new words that had the prefix a-.

They all wanted to use any word that started with a.

I decided to make a sample chart for them with some a- and anti- words.

Notice I still color Coded it with orange.

They finished up the packet page for a- and anti- for homework.

The next day we reviewed what we had gone over on Monday,

and I had them share any new words they found that were not on my list,

or share a sentence they wrote.

We talked about the words they used and

what context clues they used in their sentences

to let me know that they understood the meaning of the word.

We practiced the raps for the next two word parts.

I had learned on Monday, and had made up another anchor chart example.

Then they worked on their packets for those two parts.

The next day we reviewed and shared.

We continued working on it all week...

I had anchor charts everywhere!

Today we reviewed all of the word parts and raps to get ready for the quiz.

I am just amazed at my students' resemblance to Nike herself!

They did an AMAZING job on their quizzes!

I asked them if they had liked the Reading Olympians format,

and they said YES!

It was a fun way to learn the vocabulary words!

It even made its appearance on my

I'm saving all of the anchor charts for next year,

and putting copies in our Anchor Charts Binder for them to refer to when necessary.

I am going to finish out my last few weeks with the program,

and will definitely be using it next year!

Like I said,

I'm sold!

Workshop Wednesday: Math Websites

With Thinking Blocks, kids can model and solve word problems.

What's even better is that Thinking Blocks supports the common core standards.

I love the way the kids can model out their thinking in solving problems!

They can start off by watching a video demonstration.

Then they get a problem

They have to sort out the information and label the problem.

Then they plug in the numerical information.

Once all the information is in place they solve the problem.

It gives them immediate feedback.

The whole thing takes them through the process step by step and provides coaching when necessary.

2 Truths and a Lie Reveal

So the other day I linked up with Latoya for her Let's Get Acquainted Linky

1. I was a bigamist (not a bigot!) for a period of time.

2. I was an exchange student in college.

3. I have visited every state in the US.

So, which one WAS the lie?

Well...

I WAS (albeit unknowingly) a bigamist for a short period of time.

After my husband and I got married and decided to buy a house,

while pre-qualifying, the mortgage company asked for a copy of

hubby's divorce decree from his previous marriage.

He went on down to the courthouse to get a copy,

and there WASN"T ONE!

His ex had never signed and filed the papers!

So...

We got an annulment.

I bought the house.

He got the divorce.

We called the awesome minister that we had had

and asked him to do it again!

We took our original wedding party out to another dinner

and then headed over to the minister's house for our

I DO, AGAIN! ceremony

13 months (and a baby on the way) after the first one!

We celebrate BOTH of them!

I even have an "I DO - AGAIN" page in my Wedding Album!

I WAS an exchange student in college.

I attended the University of Sonora in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico

for a semester and lived with a family there.

It was my first time really away from home and I learned a LOT!

I even got a marriage proposal from the father of the woman I was staying with!

Sadly, I have NOT been to all fifty states - yet.

It's on my bucket list, though!
