Swiss chalet style is a style of architecture that originated in Germany in the early 19th century and had popularity in certain areas in Europe and North America. The Scheider Chalet is a modern version of the classic Swiss chalet which was renovated by tecARCHITECTURE which was commissioned by a client who wanted something modern, and rather than be limited by the draconian building restrictions. Based on the concept, tec success to play within the rules to create something entirely different and the result is this modern swiss chalet complete with its luxury interior design. Ethereal Rug Floor Design

This dazzlingly beautiful rug is from Top Floor, a multi-award winning design studio based in London. The firm, founded in 1988 by Design Director Esti Barnes, is located at the Chelsea Harbour Design Centre.

Striped Floor Design

Check out the eye-popping floor design made from vinyl tape by Glasgow-based artist Jim Lambie. The floor is in the Gramercy apartment that is the home of Tim Nye of the Nyehaus Gallery.

Mare Floors Design

Mare Floors GmbH, a German-based large format printer, used its UltraVu® 2600 to print a vibrantly colored and unusual underwater floor design for leading Madrid advertising agency, Estudio Cruz. The floor was installed by first applying a plastic layer to the existing concrete, and then bonding the self-adhesive vinyl graphics to the base-layer. Glass beads and crystals were adhered to the printed image and a matte covering was overlayed. The final touch was the installment of a special hard-wearing transparent film that helped to create a look of shimmering water.

Marmoleum Floor Design

Simply Floor Design

This floor design is made up of alternating 5-inch-wide and 7-inch-wide planks. The full width of the 5-inch-wide boards is painted green. The 7-inch-wide boards are painted with narrow green stripes. If needed, adjust the pattern measurements to fit the boards of your floor. Use each plank as one unit of width instead of following the measurement. On all other floors, simply mark the pattern as shown.

Carlton Bookcase

If you are a fan of colors ,so the Carlton bookcase from Memphis Italy will be sure Interesting for you. This piece was designed by Ettore Sottsass in the 1980s. This multicolored bookcase is made of pattern laminate. You will find this piece interesting, especially when you look at the two small drawers at the bottom. The two drawers and top look like a children’s dresser in its own right. The rest of the bookcase is entirely wild building out from the two drawer area. The Carlton bookcase is probably the most famous piece from the Memphis, Italy line.

You can found Albero della Cuccagna, a bookcase for children designed like a tree by Matteo Casarosa, an Italian designer appealing. You could slip in the books you want your kids to read on the different branches of the tree, so that they will not have to search for their favorite titles. Kids will love this as they don’t have to go through the torture of stacking up the books neatly in boring geometrical shaped bookcases and you will love this as you watch your kids become organized without your help.

Gravity Bookcase

The Gravity Powered Bookshelf by designer Leo Kempf solves the problem of books falling over on shelves without a bookend. Besides being a really sensible design, this piece of furniture is beautiful too, like sculpture, so you wouldn’t want to hide it behind other furniture. The main center beam is made of red hardwood, while the shelves are constructed out of curved birch plywood. The effect is to have gravity press books down so the outside edge of the bookshelf needs no support.

Curvy Bookcase

This is a bookcase is built by Noah Balmer. He wanted an organic shape and slanty shelves (no bookends needed) and this is what he came up with. Decorating A Small Apartment : Not So Difficult After All

This beautiful small apartment in the images below only has one room and an area of no more than 17 sq meters. What the interior designers did with this place is absolutely fabulous. This small studio is not only very practical, but also looks modern, inviting and original. The white walls and large window give the much needed feeling of space. Because the ceiling is located very high, a bedroom was improvised. There is plenty of available storage space and if you check out the pictures patiently, you will notice many ingenious lockers. The wooden ladder gives a genuine warm feel and could also offer access to the book shelves. In these decorative circumstances, the living room also becomes a dining room and a bedroom. But even so, the place looks airy and everything is a display of good taste.-via Alvhem

Carrie's Bed in Sex in The City II

Did you see Sex In the City II this past weekend? We thought it wasn't as bad as the reviews said it was... Seriously, don't you think the critics take this movie a bit too literally? After all, the movie is all about the clothes and the fantasies...

Anyway, did you like the bed in Carrie's and Big's apartment? We do. And we know exactly where to get it too.

The bed is made by Vanguard Furniture and you can see it here (it is shown as tufted but it's an optional feature. You can get it untufted plain as shown in the movie. The nail heads can be changed to polished nickel as well).

The fabric, which is what made the bed, is by Kravet Couture and it's called Velvet Gate, pattern number 29868. Shown in the movie in black/white, it is also available in other colorways. The fabric is a linen/velvet combination. Very, very pretty in person. You'd love it.

The fabric is priced at $149/yard but you can get it for $104/yard at the Kravet fabric section on our site. Enter the pattern number "29868" (the quotation marks is recommended for precise search) and you can see all the colorways available.

Gorgeous Beach Shell Chandelier from Currey

We're crazy about this new beach shell chandelier from Currey & Co. Isn't it marvelous? Can you see this with a white linen couch and white-washed floor? You'll need a very high ceiling though. This chandelier is huge!

The size is 37rd x 64h and the price is $5750 including shipping, a little expensive, perhaps, but oh it's so worth it.

Where Did You Get That? Geometric Wallpaper in 9 by Design

Do you watch 9 by Design on Bravo? It's on Tuesday night and it's about a couple in New York with 6 or 7 kids and their design business. They are self-taught designers making a living by fixing houses for other people and flipping houses themselves.

Anyway, if you watch the show you'll see that the show's opening has a geometric wallpaper background that is also used in their living room (in purple!).

If you like that pattern, you can find it at Cole & Sons Wallpaper. It's called Hick's Hexagon and comes a few colorways.

We saw this picture via Coco + Kelly today when were trying to do everything possible to procastinate working. You see, when you run your own business there is no such thing as a day off!

But we shouldn't complain. We love, love working for ourselves.

We don't see new vendors very often in the last few years. We imagine starting any new business, and especially home furnishing business, is tough. This is why we were so happy to see a new one that we really like at the High Point show -- Eloquence Inc.

Based out of Santa Monica, CA, this company makes antique reproductions that are really, really pretty. It's the kind of furniture that you want to have if you were living in, say, an Ialian villa or something. Although in Los Angeles, where we have many Spanish Mediteranean homes that were built in the 1920s, these would look amazing as well.

We saw this picture from Vanity Fair today and we just love it. It's under the slide shows titled "Oscar Moms". The picture is of a young Audrey Hepburn pushing a baby carriage (were baby carriages this big in the sixties?).

We also just finished watching a couple of episodes of the "Real Housewives" series and thought about the contrast of how the women look there vs here. Enough with the Botox, hair extensions, bad French manicures!

Doesn't Hepburn look so beautifully natural?

Small Businesses Are People Too...

A friend of ours who runs a small drapery wrote us an email to vent about a particularly nasty client of his. The woman was referred to him by a friend. She insisted on meeting early in the morning, so to get to her house at 10am in LA traffic, my friend has to leave his office at 8am. He spent a couple of hours the night before picking out fabrics for her. Once he got there, she proceeded to tell him that she only wants to have someone measure the windows for her so that she can buy the window treatment over the Internet. Mind you, she wants to have the measurement done for free!

Another friend of ours owns a restaurant in San Francisco. We don't know if you know, but this is a particularly trying time for the restaurant business. Our friend is struggling to survive. At any rate, there was this group of four young guys. They ordered a noodle dish and the dish had a tiny thread (that was used to tie the dry noodle together). My friend apologized and made a new one. When the check came, they demanded that the whole meal, including 2-3 bottles of wine, be comped! My friend explained that that is not possible, but she would comp them for the appetizers. They proceeded to stomp off and left the waitress no tip. Then wrote a Yelp review about it.

One recent customer of ours ordered $4000 worth of merchandise, then proceeded to cancel/return/refuse 80% of them, leaving us with restocking fee, shipping fee and opened merchandise that we now have to salvage.

Which leads us to the question, is common decency dead? Do people feel that merchants exists to be abused and used? Is common courtesy only goes one way-from the merchant to customers but not the other way around?

If a customer experiences bad service, and we have many times ourselves, there are many outlets they can vent to.

Yet if a merchant gets used/abused like this, all we can do is vent privately. Yet the same customers will go elsewhere and repeat this deplorable attitute to other businesses. Most small businesses that we know, especially retail/restaurants are working fingers to the bone to survive day to day. Having this type of customers just kill us.

We wish sometime that people understand that businesses are people too.

PS We do have a lot of many good and amazing customers that we just love. To them, we say thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Art Murals for Large Spaces

We think the large murals that you see in Starbuck or Barnes and Nobles are really cool. We always wish we can get something like that at home. It will work great if you have a large loft with tall, tall ceilings, don't you think? So much cooler than wallpapers.

We found a source today for it that we thought you might want to check out. They do mostly commercial installations but you can buy them for residential as well.

Loft Room Divider

We're in the process of downsizing from a 4000 sq ft home to a 1200-sq ft loft. Do you know, loft living sounds more romantic than it actually is? We find that we really miss the traditional division of space. We miss having rooms. We miss the privacy!

We've been looking into options of dividing the space. Drapery is one, but do you have any idea how expensive a piece of fabric with four stitching is? It's quite a mystery actually, how much drapery can cost. The other option is to go with a company like the Sliding Door, but they are really pricey too.

We found this company, Loft Wall, today and we thought it might be a good option. They make portable dividers that you can customize the sizing and the panels. They are not cheap but they are not too expensive either. You can visit the web site to download the price list. Keep in mind that the published prices are retail, and no one pays retail!

When we go to a really cool restaurant in Miami or Los Angeles we are always envious of the huge, modern planters that they have. It's really hard to find them. Most of the pottery places that we have in our local area sell the traditional planters. If you have a modern home you are kinda out luck.

Anyway, we just found a great source today for huge, commercial modern planters that we thought we'd share with you. They are so cool! We have no idea how much they cost, sorry. But if you are interested drop us a line and we'll get pricing info for you.

Black and White Artwork

We usually have a really hard time finding artwork. Mainly because we know nothing about art and when you know nothing about something you tend to be really insecure. We suppose art is like wine, you can pretend to be a connoiseur or you can just decide you like what you like and that's that.

It's easier that way, no?

So here are some artworks that we just picked up for our own personal loft lately. It's a modern loft with very dark floors and white paint, so we thought we keep it simple by sticking to black and white theme. We really like them in person. They are made professionally for commercial projects so they look really nice and expensive, even though they are quite reasonable.

We haven't seen much from Barbara Barry for a while. She was huge a few years back, with furniture for Baker, fabrics for Kravet and so on. Her stuff was always so expensive though, so it was a nice surprise to see her home accessories collection for Global Views. They are actually reasonable!
