Its Time to Get Ready for Caribbean Fashion Week 2013

Last weekend, Saint International Jamaica, blew us away with their strong events line-up of high energy and fashionable hits after hits with Style Week 2013, which we heard on the shout was a showdown.

But before you get all settled in, its time to get ready again for another explosive fashion week, only this time its from the Caribbean Fashion Week 2013, hosted by Pulse Jamaica Limited where the week kicks off on June 6 and ends on June 10.

Excited? Not yet? Well, the Ready for CFW should get you in gear for the fashion event which promises to deliver like every other year. Ready for CFW is the ultimate lead up fashion showcase to CFW 2013 and with last week's staging hitting the fashion mark, they will be raising the bar higher for fashion lovers like us.

At last week's Ready for CFW, GlamHEAD in collaboration with its sister line Yadhie Conscious pieces were showcased at the show, which were both well received. Remember the 'Flower Child' which was pre-released from the GlamHEAD Summer 2013 Collection? It was first debuted at the event, so just maybe you will be seeing some new pieces from your favourite designer at this week's show as well.

This Thursday, May 30 - Ready for CFW you can look forward to some of the Caribbean's new and upcoming designers pieces hitting the runway, while you enjoy live music from Nickeisha Barnes as you sip on cocktails, looking fashionable chic.

The event will be hosted at PULS8, 38A Trafalgar Road, Kingston 10 starting at 9 p.m. No cover charge.

This might be one of our most random yet very personal blog posts of all time - but being an avid blog reader of so many awesome blogs out there, we just felt like sharing some of our very own favourite blogs we love love to read!

If you check our Blog Roll, you might see some of your favourite blogs too and in all honesty, really and truly there isn't enough space there on our blog to share all the blogs we love. Sooooo, we decided to share some of the favourites we love to read. But in this post, we are happy to share some of our favourite local and Caribbean blogs :)

We are suckers for quality not to mention anything Caribbean - and a great way to promote and sell all the quality things from the Caribbean apart from the beautifully designed fashion accessory pieces - it is our pleasure to share all the AWESOME things that happen here in the Caribbean plus the tremendous people who do superb things.

So enough with the chit-chatter -- here we go with our favourite local and Caribbean blogs we love to read (which are in no particular order). By the way, they are not all fashion/fashion accessories-focused blog (there is a mixture of beauty, fashion and lifestyle blogs in the mix - all from different parts of the Caribbean)

1. Exotic You (JAMAICA) - Debbie and Shannon always have us glued to their blogs - these ladies own a personal style that oozes confidence and with their fashionable flair we are officially hooked. What do we love the most about Exotic You, is the out of the box DIY's that are quite fun and easy to do and the personal styling that inspires!

2. Ceola (TRINIDAD) - Ceola, has a thing with words, but not only that, she has a superb taste in her fashion choices. And since, she is big supporter for locally made pieces like ourselves we were even more drawn to her blog for some of the latest deets on the must have pieces to shop! She's pretty fun, candid and always on the look out for quality pieces to share, so her blog always have us going back for more

3. Natalia Oh (JAMAICA) - An avid fashion lover and a 'DIY Queen' as we call her, connects with the fashion-forward minds and fashion lovers every where. When she is not showing us how to do-it-ourselves in a new DIY post, she is sharing styling tips and personal styling photos that inspires.

4. Cities and Islands (TRINIDAD) - Now, Kathryn is one that inspires. And we must admit she's one of our top favourites, who shares her recent buys, how she wears her pieces with a tidbit of her lifestyle in Trinidad and her travel life. Remember that post on how to turn your scarf into a turban to UMPF up with your look? That was Kathryn, who inspired that post!

5. Island Style (ANTIGUA) - First let us say, her personal style inspires. Though she is an island girl, she is big on city style too. She has some of the finest taste in accessories and has a style that inspires. To know her blog, is to love it.

6. White Fur (JAMAICA) - Though she is fairly new to the blogosphere, her love for fashion is wise beyond her years. Thalia boosts a style that is fierce, edgy and is statement worthy. Though she might be an island girl, her style is matching to that of high-fashion street style that leaves us wanting more. From tad bits of DIYs to personal style posts, she hits the mark at every shot.

7. Soooo FABULOUS (BARBADOS) - We found out about this blog thanks to Kathryn of Cities and Islands, and we are liking what she has brought so far. From must-wear trends to the latest runway, red carpet and collection reviews, she brings it while dropping in a tidbit of fashion tips here and there.

8. Blue Sky Tie Dye (TRINIDAD) - BSTD is another one of our favourites when it comes to highlighting local fashion designers. From clothing to fashion accessories, BSTD shares the new releases, gives us the deets on local fashion hosted events plus gives us a little store tour of some of Trinidad and Tobago's local boutiques. Love TT, love local, love fashion and uniqueness? Then you'll love the blog

9. Indiz Blog (GUADELOUPE) - We recently found this blog, thanks to Caribbean Style Bloggers network, which we peep every now and then - annd, we love her blog though! Indiz Blog is not only personal styling focused, but she is good with sharing a few fashion tips and shares the in-trend must-haves and how to wear them.

10. Trinidad Lookbook (TRINIDAD) - This is one of the first Caribbean-based fashion, lifestyle blog we got hooked to in the beginning and we have fallen in love again. Why? They don't resist sharing some of the great Caribbean finds, events to go plus all the other shenanigans, as they would put it! They are awesome at sharing the best of everything Caribbean, from fashion to lifestyle!

We enjoy lying in bed reading these blogs or using our lunch break at work to catch up on what's hot and happening, whether it is fresh post or an oldie but goodie post! Let's just put it as this, these blogs, inspires and we're pretty sure there is lot more we haven't discovered just yet! But hey - once we discover them we will be happy to share in an upcoming post!

We have spotted, we have loved and must confess have swooned over a few pieces worn by Amita, our Exclusive Style feature guest this week!

Many of you might know her while others not so much, but Amita is a the host of FiWi Choice, a local television music programme in Jamaica. With a job that demands her time in front of the camera almost always, it is expected that she keeps her style game on top. We assume it must take awfully a lot of time to get ready for the cameras, but even when she is not on the job, she still keeps it stylish.

How would you describe your style? I would describe my style as versatile ...I like to wear whatever suits my mood at the time, can be urban street wear, vintage, tomboy chic, you name it. I've worn it!

Must-have accessory for the season: Must have accessory of the season - shoes! For any and every season.

Which accessory pieces are you currently crushing on? I am currently crushing on vintage jewellery, the ones with an ole school feel! Whether 80's or 90's inspired pieces.

Favourite accessories owned: My favourite accessories are platforms, heels, boots, flats - shoes! Love um!!!

What's one accessory every girl must have? A nice pair of "I'm feeling sexy" heels, it adds to your self confidence! And you can never have enough confidence.

Aren't we all crushing on vintage jewellery pieces? Yes, Amita - we love those 80/90's inspired pieces.

Debut of the Pop-Up Thrift Shopping Event!

We've got a good news in for you! And for those of you who love thrifted finds, the Pop-Up Thrift should be listed on your MUST-DO list on May 25 from 10 am to 6pm.

The Pop-Up Thrift, which will be held in Trinidad, hosted by Studio W is a debut pop-up shopping event, which is described as the 'new-age thrift shopping', where there will be something for everyone.

And has they say, 'this isn't your dusty, musty, old-tanty thrift shop - this is an experience. Say it with me: ex-pe-ri-ence. Only gorgeous, interesting (!) pieces from some of T&T's most stylish.'

So here's your chance to explore racks upon racks of awesome pieces, which includes clothing and accessories - that were either gently used or never worn. Doesn't this sound like an AMAZING shopping experience that is bound to happen.

Sighs. We wish we could be there - but since we heard this is the first of many to come, we will stay faithful.

And guys, word is out that there will also be a sample rack featuring local designer pieces (now that's, what we are talking about)

While doing our regular internet stalking of local/Caribbean accessories designer lines, we spotted a gorgeous shoot by photographer Steve Bakhuis, who captured the essence of the Caribbean in an almost month old editorial 'Tamed' themed photo-shoot featuring Shaedith Adriana, a Curacao model, who was seen beautifully accessorized in BECK Designs.

After opening our arms to other Caribbean fashionistas not from Jamaica, Jihan's street chic accessories-styling with a unique twist is first up for the spotlight! In this feature, Jihan shares her favourite local/Caribbean accessories line, one accessory piece every girl must have plus gives a quick tip on how to wear your collar necklace --- get the deets plus more in the feature below

How would you describe your style? Street, Chic and Organic. I love fashion, as do most women but I believe that what we wear must be organic and true to who we are. Of course you can mimic a banging Rihanna outfit from top to bottom but yet it doesn’t look good on you and I believe that is because you left out the most important piece, yourself. I get fashion inspiration from Tumblr, Instagram, magazines and put my own twist on it. I’m an island girl living in a big city so I always try to keep a little bit of that Trini laissez faire attitude in my NYC street style. There are no rules to my style because I do as I feel and wear what I want so F* your rules. I've always been into expressive mediums, as a pre-teen, I got into nail design, as a teenager I got into hair styling and now I’m a cake designer. I use these mediums to express my tastes and likes and feelings too. My favorite outfits consist of simple/clean clothing pieces and knock out accessories. You can tell a lot about a girl by her accessories and I love me some shoes, bags, jewelry and NAILS!

Favorite local/Caribbean accessory designer? Why? My favorite local/Caribbean accessory designer has to be Fetarah Designs. Just about 80% of my jewelry collection is Fetarah. I love that the line carries a mix of chic and simple pieces like button earrings in every single color and metal (yes I have them all) and more island earthy pieces. Her pieces allow me to bring a little earthiness to a structured outfit or chicness to a more boheme one. The versatility lies in how I choose to style it but the essence of her pieces always shine through.

Which accessory piece are you currently crushing on? I’m crushing on two of my newest pieces from Fetarah, the “flower power” earrings and a statement necklace (white beads). Both are from the “Ursula’s Closet” collection. I love the statement necklace because it allows me to dress up the most simple outfit and I love the earrings because they’re just gorgeous and the perfect addition to a high ponytail!

What is one accessory every girl must have? One? Are you kidding me? Every girl should start with a basic button earring in gold, a huge cocktail ring (preferably with stones) and a simple chain necklace. From there on out the sky is the limit ladies, keep on pressing on (cues Biggie’s sky is the limit).

You are more likely to rock a collar necklace or a long necklace? I’m most likely to rock a collar necklace at the moment because it’s very on trend and the perfect complement to high neck tops and dresses.

What do you think about this Trinidadian bombshell's accessories-styling? Did you spotted her Rhianna for River Island snapback? Its everything!

JB Achieves a Cool and Spunky Look in her One Summer Sunglasses

Vintage Finds at the Swap Shop!

As promised, we have chosen to get a little more personal with you - where we have decided to share our CB's most recent buys, accessories she loves from her growing collection plus her now and then accessories-styling looks for the day in our feature 'My Style, My Exclusive Pick'.

A few weekends ago, I made my first ever trip to a 'Swap Shop' in Florida - where my eyes and heart found and loved the vintage jewellery pieces spotted for $1US a piece (great deal in my eyes, I would say) - pieces bought included an animal motif bracelet and earrings (seen on the right, except for the watch) plus other pieces (not seen here).

Though I was a little hesitation at first, I asked the jewellery vendor who had piles of fashion accessories and other jewellery pieces to throw out all she had so I could dig in - but unfortunately, she had to pack up to go as I was a little too late (then, I thought to myself, if only I had just put my pride aside at first, before I walked pass the first time). I must share though that the seller was very pleasant and helped me to pick out a few pieces - and during my jewellery rummaging I got a little over excited when my eyes caught some of the most unique over-sized vintage earrings *sighs*

But I must admit I loved all the pieces I got and have been killing them ever since - not to mention my animal motif bracelet, which was picked out by my mom.

And must I add, I am more open to thrifting after my first mini haul.

We are extremely elated to be back with one of your favourite features on the blog, your Exclusive Style (formerly Exclusive Feature). In December of last year, we reintroduced you to our Exclusive Style featured ladies who were featured on the blog, where you got the grand opportunity to vote for your favourite (see post here).

And now, we're back with our exclusive feature for all our Caribbean fashionistas - and for this special feature, we caught up with Asheli Fearce from JAMAICA, who showcases her personal style and shares that she is inspired by some of our favourite style icons Rihanna, Teyana Taylor and Fashion Blogger Seani Mori plus she shares her favourite local boutique to shop for accessories. Favourite accessory piece: My favourite accessory piece/s are my MK Gold boyfriend watch and my Iphone (yes, phones are also accessories too lol)

Must have accessory piece for women? Every woman should have either a pair of statement earrings or a statement necklace. These accessories can do great things for an outfit.

Favourite local/Caribbean accessory line: I'm in love with Peace-is -Of Bianca, her pieces are very beautiful and they also make a big statement, I also love and support Glamhead by James Black. Head accessories are very trendy plus when you're having a bad hair day, a Glamhead piece can save your life :)

How would you describe your style? My style is a lil weird, contrary to what people think I'm a tom boy. Currently I'm stuck in the 90s, I'm feeling the old school tomboy R&B look. My most recent looks are inspired by the late Aaliyah, Teyana Taylor, Rihanna and Seani Mori (fashion blogger) I also like to add a dash of vintage to my outfits. Whatever look i go for its extremely important for me to be very comfortable.

My biggest splurge on an accessory piece was Michael Kors Boyfriend Watches last year in Florida.

Favourite local boutique to shop for accessories? Style Savvy Boutique! Listen Erica hooks me up with my arm candies, love love that boutique!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fashionable Chic at the 2013 Caribbean Fashion Week Launch

With the dress code being fashionable chic for the evening, the ladies came out looking like unstoppable forces who were dressed for the MUST ATTEND event. The 2013 Caribbean Fashion Week launch saw faces of those who were not only fashionable but also knew how to make a statement! While on the scene, we spotted a few of our favourite accessories-styling looks and couldn't resist but to snap and share it with you guys!

1: Fashion Designer, Ashely Martin is spotted in a black Chanel chain purse which complemented her look perfectly.

2: We spotted the always FABULOUS Fashion Designer and Stylist Jaye O'Connor who looked effortlessly beautiful, where she complemented her look with a statement collar necklace.

3: Spotted this Jamaican fashionista, who rocked the hell out of her over-sized nerdy glasses for a cool chic fashionable look.

4: It was the neon satchel that first caught our eyes, but it was this model Mitsy, that showed us how to perfect any simple look with a statement piece.

5: Spotted is another Jamaican fashionista who complemented her colour-block ensemble with a mini tribal print bag for the night's event.

Highlights from Caribbean Fashion Week (CFW) Launch 2013

We were honoured to have been invited to the launch of the region's biggest fashion event, Caribbean Fashion Week (CFW) 2013 - which we thought was one not to be missed!

The event, which was held at PULS8 in New Kingston, Jamaica was well attended and was an eventful one which included the showcasing of collections from some of the region's new, rising and established fashion designers.

Invited guests got a sneak peek of upcoming collections by Jae Jolly whose pieces were accessorized by Swizz Beads (JAMAICA), Zaid (JAMAICA), Dani Marie (US Virgin Islands) and Drenna Luna (JAMAICA) - which were all well received.

Planning on attending CFW 2013? This year's show will be held at the National Indoor Sports Centre in Kingston, Jamaica between June 6-10, 2013 and we heard this year is going to be BIGGER than ever - which also has a strong lineup of international acts who will be performing at the show.
