argument 9/11/10

2010-11-09T01:21:00.000-08:00

today we had a discussion on why advertisement is needed and does it really work or is it a waste of time

our discussion title was: what is the point of advertising.

this discussion caused a lot of controversy and eventually the whole class was really deep into the argument, and we came up with a lot of argument for and against.

here they are;

for:

it makes you aware of the product
it makes the product stand out from all the other products
It will make the product look more appealing and the product will be remembered by the audience/consumers

Against:

there’s no point of advertising because the product will still sell
Most of the time the advert doesn’t have anything to do with the product
The advert might put people off the product as the advert may be unappealing.
the product will still be known by word of mouth so adverts arent neccessary

dentyl-
what makes it effective?
-its energetic, people can enjoy themselves whilst watching it, its not blaintently marketive so its doesnt seem like its selling you something although it is but you are unaware.
what makes it a popular choice?
- its a popular choice because its memorable. the advert is so good and funny that when you walk into a shop and you want mouth wash youll think 'dentyl'.
what techniques does the advert use to make it effective?
- it uses music, the use of music in this advert makes it interactive which makes it effective; it has a jingle which is cathcy so people can remember it which makes it successful. also it uses the obvious choice humour, popular choice in adverts.

5/10/10 De touch

2010-10-05T02:44:00.000-07:00

we went on De touch the website and looked at how they use photo shop to modify the body and how they use image manipulation, how they use body politics. We looked at an example of alicia keys and we watch as the image of her gradually changed as the more it got edited it was shocking.

we had to answer the following questions:

1.what are the key differences which occur in the process to

a) female

with female they tend to make them look like they have more makeup on and they tend drop of some weight so they look perfect.

b) male

with:

*facial features

*limbs

*toros

2. how are these images created?

3.why?

4.what are the dominate ideologies (peoples thought) here in terms of

*gender

*status

*ethnicity

ii) what is potentially morally dubious about this? (what problems could it cause, what is it represents?)

Koon’s expedition in Hyde Park.
Today we went to the serpentine gallery in Hyde Park to see the Jeff Koon’s expedition. We saw his work and were looking at his pieces in detail, trying to understand the making and feelings behind his surreal sculptures. Also the sculptures were so realistic the actually looked like real inflatable toys and that’s what I liked about Koon’s expedition the amount of detail he put in to gave it the realisation and made it almost come to life like his picture I honestly thought they were taken by a camera but they hand drawn with a paint brush I think Koon’s pulled it off really well and the idea behind it is ingenious. My favourite pieces although I liked them all were the painting were the paintings especially the Popeye one still because I’m completely in love with the way he puts amount of detail into it almost comes to life but the way he experiment a plays with the viewer eyes and almost recreates an old cartoon favourite.
