UPSC Civil Services Examination 2020: How should you prepare?

If you are a complete beginner, it is advisable to cover all matters for Prelims and Mains 10-12 months before Prelims. This means that if you are planning to attend Prelims 2020 (on June 2020), the recommended time to start preparations is June - August 2020.

However, there are a large number of candidates who can successfully complete the IAS test with 5-6 months (or less) months of preparation. So the main thing here is not the quantity of time, but the quality of the time.

Candidates must associate the mains preparation with the basic preparation as you do not have enough time to cover all mains topics after the prelims (3.5 months only). UPSC Civil Services Exams - Prelims, Mains and Personality Test

Prelims: The Civil Services Preliminary Examination contains two mandatory papers of 200 marks (General Studies Paper I and General Studies Paper II). The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released its 2020 exam calendar. The exam calendar includes the schedule of all exams, which will take place in 2020. Candidates can check the Exam Calendar by visiting the official website of UPSC.

This year, there is already a 25-day delay in publishing the results of the UPSC CSE mains.

Currently, the due date is January 10th.

Reason Behind the delay of the result UPSC CSE Mains 2019?

Update according to the newspaper report: The result will be delayed due to an ongoing case in the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) on the EWS quota. The case is pending before the CAT filed by UPSC candidates attached to the EWS quota. Cat will deliver his final verdict on January 9, 2020, which is expected to bring more clarity on EWS.

Following the CAT judgment, the UPSC can publish the results, taking into account various aspects of the decision. Candidates are expected to receive UPSC Mains 2019 results at any date between 9-14 January.

How long does UPSC takes to publish the main test results?

UPSC usually takes only 2.5 months to evaluate mains' answers. Last year, UPSC published mains results in 74 days. Based on that logic, the mains result is expected to be published between December 12–15, 2019.

This year, however, UPSC has delayed publishing CSE mains results.

UPSC CSE Interview / Personality Test (2019-20)-Dates

Successful candidates' personality test is expected to begin on February 10, 2020.

You will notice that this is an approximation based on previous year’s trends.

Since there are approximately 2000+ candidates for the interview - 30 minutes for each candidate - the entire process of the UPSC interview can take up to 50 days.

Around March 31st.

Once the final result is published, the UPSC will release a mark list of candidates who will attend the prelims, mains and interviews in 2019.

Good Governance Day(GGD) is celebrated on 25th of December every year to award accountability in government among the Indian Peoples. The day is 25th December is chemistry anniversary of former Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee. On 25th of December 2014, National Good Governance Day was established by the Government of India on the birth anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

In the year 2014 Former PMO(Prime Minister Of) India Atal Bihari Vajpayee was awarded with the highest civilian award if the country(India) along with Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya. As a tribute to Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Modi Government announced the birth anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee as Good Governance Day in India.

In the year 2014, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Madan Mohan Malaviya(after death) were awarded the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award of the country India.
The same year the Modi government announced that Good Governance Day will be celebrated every year on the birth anniversary of the former prime minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

In India 24 December is observed as National Consumer Day.

National Consumers Day is being celebrated on 24th December every year since 1986. This day celebrated to aware consumers of their rights and responsibilities. National Consumers Day is celebrated on the 24th of December because on this day in 1986, the Consumer Protection Act was passed. Some changes were also made in this Act in the year 1991 and 1993. In December 2002 a comprehensive Amendment was made and implemented on 15 March 2003

(Note: 15th of March is Celebrated As the WORLD CONSUMER DAY) to make Consumer Protection Act more functional. The Act is intended to provide effective safeguards against bad goods/services and unfair trade practice.

Let me tell you, 24 December has been declared as National Consumer Day by the Government of India, the President of India accepted the Act of the Consumer Protection Act 1986 on the same day 24th December.

What are the Rights of the Consumers?

There are six primary rights Indian Consumers have. They are as follows.

Right to Saftey
Right to Information
Right to Choose
Right to Heard
Right to Redressal
Right to Education

1. Right to Safety

Right to Safety means the right of the consumers to protect himself against the marketing of goods and services which are dangerous to life and property. It is generally related to the medicinal, pharmaceuticals and food processing sectors like food factories and all the consumable products. The right is also relevant to the sectors that have an impact on health including automobiles, housing, domestic appliances and travel sectors indirectly.

2. Right to Information

Right to Information or Right to be Informed means the right of a consumer to be about the amount, quality, usefulness, purity, amount and price of the goods. This right was defined in The Consumer Protection Act, 1986. This right was defined to protect consumers against illegal trade practices.

3. Right to Choose

This is the third and an important right to the consumers. The Right to Choose is also referred to as the right to be ensured, wherever possible, access to a species of goods at competitive prices. Due to this act consumer can even bargain on the Maximum Retail Price(MRP), that means consumer can for a discount. As usual, everyone asks for a discount. We can bargain on MRP, as it's not fixed by the government.

4. Right to Heard

This act 'Right to Heard' defines the right to be heard and to be ensured that consumers. The right helps consumers to raise their voice against any goods, products or services without any fear.

5. Right to Redressal

The meaning of this term 'Right to Redressal' is the right to pursue redressal against unfair trade practices or wicked exploitation of consumers. From help with the Consumer Protection Act, consumer courts were started to redressal against the unfair read practices and exploitation. These courts are on stages first one is District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forums at the district level, State Consumer Disputes Redressal Forums at the State level and finally the top, National Consumer Disputes Redressal Forums at the National level.

6. Right to Consumer Education

The final but the important right. This right ensures the information programme and activities to help the consumers in the country to assist them with the best decision.

Description: Latitude is the angular distance of a place in the north or south direction from Equinox circle is called latitude. This angle is made at the centre of the Earth. A series was conducted by the Britishers in three sessions, namely, first round table conference, second round table conference and third round table conference. The series was conducted to consider the future of the constitution of India.

Babasaheb Ambedkar and Tej Bahadur Sapru were the only men who attended all the three round table conferences.

Second round table conference

At the time of the second round table conference, Lord Irwin was renewed by Lord Wellington, he stayed the Viceroy of India till 1936. The second round table conference was carried in London from 7, 1931 to 1 December 1931. Gandhi was representing INC(Indian National Conference) in the second round table conference. This is the first and the last time when Gandhi went to the round table conference.

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru drafted a resolution on the Fundamental Rights and Economic Program at the Karachi Session of Congress, chaired by Sardar Vallabhhai Patel in 1931. M.A. in making this proposal. N. Rai helped Nehru. Gandhi Irwin Pact was accepted in this session and Gandhiji was allowed to participate in the Second Round Table Conference. At this time Gandhi had said that "Gandhi can die, but not Gandhism."

The Second Round Table Conference took place on September 7, 1931 AD. Mahatma Gandhi participated in it as the representative of the Congress, but this conference failed due to communal representation.

Failure of the Second Round Table Conference

Konark sun temple is a tremendous example of the artistry of ancient India, the fluidity of intentions. As the name temple dedicated to the Sun, Surya. Because in India Sun is a god. The temple is made in such a way that the first glint of sun falls at the entrance of the temple. Most of the part of the temple is damaged and into rack and ruin but it's still charming like Sun. This temple had seen many monarchs rising and falling. But it's not in too good condition.

According to available information, it's said that it was built in between 1238-1250 CE by the Eastern Ganga dynasty king Narasimha Deva I. 'Konark' word means the sun and the four directions. The temple was called Black Pagoda implying to its dark facade by the Europeans who used it for their navigation for their watercraft. It is said that the temple could bring ships to the coast due to its magnetic powers. It's believed that the Konark was built at the mouth of the Chandraabhaga river. Even the fact of the mythical river Chandraabhaga was founded near Konark temple.

The sun temple of Konark represents the Odisha style of architecture, this type of architecture is also known as Kalinga Architecture. In Kalinga architecture, the temples are made like a chariot. In the same manner, the Konark Sun temple is made. It's made like a massive chariot elevated on the 12 pairs of intricately carved on huge stone wheels that are pulled out by a set of seven mighty stone horses. It's a 100 ft chariot being pulled by seven horses and wheels carved on a single stone. It actually represents the chariot of god Sun. It was actually 230 ft high sanctum, which no longer exists. The temple comprises a huge dining hall, audience hall and dance hall.
There are 24 designed wheels which represents the 24 hours of the day, 12 in diameter which is being pulled by horses. The diameter 12 represents the 12 months of the year. The seven horses indicate the seven days of the week, the wheels represent the 12 months while the 8 spokes for the day cycle. And this characterization tells how the time is being controlled by the Sun.

The walls of the temple are decorated with reliefs - intricate carvings of various diagrams including Hindu god's, images of the everyday spiritual life, birds animals and more. The temple has also sensual sculptures on its shikhara. The wheels of the temple can be used to predict perfect time. It works a sundial.

Mayadevi Temple

The mayadevi temple lies in the west of Sun temple. It was discovered in 1909. Mayadevi is the wife of Lord Sun. Thus, Mayadevi temple is an important part of the complex of the Konark Sun Temple. And the interesting fact is that the Mayadevi temple is older than the Sun temple. It was built in the 11th century. It's carved sculptures of Natraj and god Sun along with Vishnu, Agni and Vayu. The temple is dedicated to the wife of god Sun.

He also fulfilled as the UN Secretary Generals High-Level Panel of Eminent Person of the list-2015 Development Agenda.

This is not the first time that an Indian or an Indian-origin academic has received the award. In 1998, Amartya Sen becomes the first Indian individual to receive the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences for his contribution to Welfare award. About Nobel in economics

Nobel prize in Economics is given to the contributors who contribute in Economics field. Probably it's the biggest award given in this field. The award is presented by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences at Stockholm, Sweden. In 1969, the Nobel Prize in Economics was awarded for first time. In 1968 this award was established when Sweden's Central Bank Sveriges Riksbank gave donation to the Nobel Foundation to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the bank. This is why the official name of the award is The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel. Noble Prize for Economics Sciences is formerly known as the Bank of Sweden prize in economic sciences in memory of Alfred Nobel. Unlike The Other Nobel prizes which were created by Alfred Nobel, it was created at a later date and is considered to be part of 'Nobel stable of award'. Nobel Prize for economics was set up by Riksbanken, in the Sweden Central Bank in 1968 and so far 81 people have been awarded Nobel Prize for Economics.

The person is awarded for Nobel Prize for Economics with 9 Million kronor($918,000) cash award, a gold medal and diploma. After Elinor Ostrom (2009) Esther Duflo is the second woman to win prize in economics. And also Esther Duflo is the youngest woman to awarded with Nobel. Since year 2019, totally 81 awards have been given.

Introduction to UPSC (Union Public Service Commission )

In History

One of the major demands of the political movement that the nationalists undertook during the Indian independence movement was that the recruitment to the Public Service Commission should be in India because it was then tested in England. The first Public Service Commission was established on October 1926. After independence, Public Commission was established on 26 October 1950 under constitutional provisions. It was given constitutional status as well as autonomy so that it could recruit qualified officers without any pressure. This newly established Public Service Commission was named the Union Public Service Commission.

Time-honoured in 1926, the civil service exam was transformed in the post-independent period. It was Sardar Patel who supported the adoption of All India Services in newly dominant India for the steady functioning of the administration.

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts varied exams for achievement across the year for Defence ( National Defence Academy- NDA, Combined Defence Services - CDS ), Civil Services - IAS, IPS, IFS, Medical - Engineering Services, Scientist communicating, SCRA and alternative Government institutions.

Educational Qualification

There is a wrong feeling about the educational qualification of the civil services exam. This exam is not like the Banking or CA exam where only graduates or post-graduates are qualified for the examination. But for the UPSC exam, there are no such restrictions. Graduation is required for the preliminary exams and also graduation is the only need for any other civil service exam.

The exam syllabus is too vast and time isn't sufficient for it, that's why it's hard to crack the exam in very first attempt. Therefore you should study hard because there is an age limit for each category. Up to that age, you can apply for the civil services exam.

The aspirant must be graduated.

The aspirants who had written the final exam of graduation or the students who are going to attend the finals exam of graduation can also apply for the civil services exam but they must have an evidence that they had passed the exam.

Aspirants with a professional or technical credential which are accepted the Government as equivalent to professional degrees are also eligible.

Negative marking

There is in this exam i.e. 1/3 i.e 33 percent of the total mark of question are subtracted in negative marking. If the question is of 2 Mark's then 1/3 of it means 0.66 Mark's will be subtracted from 2 Mark's.

OMR sheet

You can only use a black pen to fill the OMR sheet. Because the OMR software is developed as it reads only dark mark. Always use a ballpoint with a black medium nib. A simple watch is allowed in the examination hall but a smartwatch is prohibited in the examination hall.

Paper I - Syllabus - current affairs, history of Indian, India and world geography, physical, social and ecological geography, Indian polity, general issues and general science.
