It’s been a very long time since you disappeared from public view. Where have you been and how
are you doing?

I thank God that I’m fine. Since you were involved in an automobile accident, how challenging has it been? It has been very challenging and very difficult because this is not a type of ailment for which you take drugs and get better. My condition has to do with the spinal cord and it is going to take a long time. Since 2009, I have been in bed till now. I thank God that I’m living by the grace of God.

How did the accident happen?

Actually I went to the farm to bring some produce and on my way back, along Kaduna-Abuja Road, the two front tyres
pulled off; that was how it happened. I found myself in the hospital. I was assisted by some soldiers and policemen that were on patrol on the highway. They took me to the hospital and I was admitted and treated. I was first admitted to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital at Gwagwalada and I was also treated at the SSS hospital. I
have people that come here to treat me. Since then, I have been on treatment in various hospitals and some doctors and
physiotherapists come to treat me at home. As somebody in need of medical care, wherever I hear that there are persons that can treat me, I would go. I have been to alternative healthcare givers and prayer houses. Either I’m taken there or they come here to help me. Treatment of this kind of condition is expensive.

How have you been sustaining that?

I have been trying by the Grace of God but it has been very difficult. I know that all the people that have been helping me must be tired by now; they are really tired.

What is your relationship with the Abacha family and have they been supportive?

I know they are aware that I was involved in an accident because it was in the media then. Maybe they don’t know where I am staying. I have not heard from them.

Have you made any effort to reach them?

You know with my condition I cannot move around much. Maybe I have not got the right person to reach them.

Let me take you back in time. There is a story about you that is very much in the negative. Sgt Rogers was a name that was
dreaded. How do you live with this definition of your person?

Well my being perceived in the negative is understandable. My profession is always taken on the negative side, no matter how good you try to be. No matter how good you are, you are always perceived in the negative. Generally speaking, we are
all human beings like every other person, you understand. These are the sacrifices you have to make for the nation. No matter how negative it is you take it because you have done your best for the nation.

Are you still in the army and if you are what is your rank now and your present posting?

I am still in the army; I am a Sergeant in the army and attached to the SSS headquarters up till now. My last date of promotion was
in September 1995, that’s like 19 years or so.

Why have you remained on one rank for 19 years?

I don’t know. The Federal Government may know better but it is something that I never expected to be this long.

How do you feel that after all the sacrifices you say you made you have been on one rank for 19 years?

Naturally, I am not happy. I am really not happy.

The Lagos State Government has said it will appeal the acquittal of your former boss, Major Hamza al-Mustapha. Do you think the state may be successful in the process?

Abeg, please, please, please, you know this is a matter in court so I will not want speak on it.

Abacha’s erstwhile deputy, Gen. Oladipo Diya, said in a recent interview that you represented death anytime you were
around. Was he right?

Well he is an elderly person and I heard that it was when he celebrated his birthday that he made the comment. What I want to say is to refer him to the Bible in the book of Luke, about the centurion who met Jesus Christ. The centurion told Jesus that he had soldiers under him who obey his orders; if
he tells them go, they go; if he tells them to do this, they do it. That’s the only thing I can say.

Are you saying that you were in the command of the army when you did all this?

I’m under the command of the army and under the Federal Government. I’m a servant, you know, a servant doing my
service to the nation. Just like the centurion said, if they say go, I go, come, I come; do this and I will do it; don’t do this and I don’t do it. Are there aspects of you that people don’t know about because what Diya said about you is the picture everybody that followed your story has.

Are there some aspects that portray a humane nature that Nigerians don’t know about?

I am a human being like every other Nigerian. I have feelings; I have senses like every other person. Everything I did was
part of the sacrifices I had I was used and dumped, says Abacha’s hitman, Sgt. Rogers to accept for the country. They can say whatever they want to say about me but the
military know me better than the populace because my profession is to be loyal and patriotic to the governing authority. That is who I am. Besides that, I am just a normal
human being like every other person. I am a father, an uncle and have feelings like every other person.

How has your relationship with your friends been since you had that accident?

There are some, few of them though. But the truth is this, one Igbo man sang a song when we were in the barracks which has the chorus that when the going is good and smooth, very many people will be your friends; but when the going is bad, all of them will run away. That is just it.

Your former boss, Maj Al Mustapha was released sometime ago. Are you two in contact?

There has been no contact between us. I only see him on the television when he visits a mosque and goes on his charity
campaign.

Is he aware of your situation and has he supported you in any way?

Actually, maybe because of the past experience, as a human being he may not want to come to me now. Maybe he has not
heard or maybe he shied away from it. We are human beings and anything can happen.

Immediately he was released, he visited some churches, what is your reaction to that action?

He deserves it and I am very happy for him for doing that because Jesus Christ did not come for a certain set of people. He came to this world for the whole humanity; for the whole mankind. So his salvation is very important. I am very happy for him and I like it that way.

As I entered here, I saw some sort of a prayer meeting going on. Are you now a born again Christian?

It was not now, I had been a born again Christian but I backslided again. I became born again in1989 in Jaji then but backslided which is normal as anybody can make a mistake. There is mercy in Christ, you can come back and he will receive you; I have come back and he received me.

During the trial of Maj Mustapha, you revealed under cross examination that the Federal Government promised to compensate you with a house, foreign posting and other incentives but reneged. Did they later make good their promise?

No they didn’t. This house I am living in is a rented apartment; I have been paying rent for a long time. They did not do anything to make good their promise. It is natural to
feel used and cheated because the integrity of people that make such promises is not that of people you think will play on your intelligence. The way the issue has lingered up till today, you feel you are cheated naturally. Past governments did their best; I am a servant and whatever comes I take it. But what I expected is not what I am seeing.

What were your expectations?

Just like you mentioned what I agreed on with them to be done but it was not done so I feel not happy. Nigeria is in a state of war with terrorism and you had counter terrorism training in Israel, Korea, Libya and so on.

As a professional, what do you think the Federal Government is not doing well against this insurgency?

Well, I feel they are doing their best. The truth is that this type of situation is one in which the whole country should synergise. There should be synergy between the populace and the security agents; it is not a job for the security agencies alone. They need intelligence reports; they need information. The security men are not ghosts; you have to tell them that this is
happening and they go in and help out. I believe they are doing their best but they can still do more.

During the Abacha regime the security situation was not this bad despite the fact that Nigerians did not really like that regime. Although there were pockets of bomb blasts, how did you guys curtail those activities?

We just did our best. That is all I can tell you. I cannot just tell put everything about our profession in the media.

As a trained security expert, if invited to come and help will you be of service to help curtail this insurgency?

First and foremost, I am a Nigerian and secondly, I am a security man. It is my duty to help the country, to serve the country anything, anyhow, anywhere. I am very willing to do that because it is my calling.
You are from the North-East where the heat of the insurgency is being felt most. Being from that area, it would be right to say you may know the terrain very well.

What advice do you have for security agencies there fighting this war?

I believe there are better trained officers there than myself who are serving and who can still do better. As I told you, security agents are not ghosts, they need help from the public, they need information. I believe that with information and people that know the terrain very well, they will defeat this
insurgency.

Do you have any regrets in life and what will you do better if given another chance?

Actually, before I joined the army, I thought I would be a pastor but I found myself in the army. I could have gone through that way but God has a plan for everything. I cannot now say that I regret what God has allowed and what He planned. As a believer all things work together for good, God
has a purpose for everything and that is why I will not regret anything. I take everything the way it comes and I give glory
to God.

How did you join the army?

I joined the army through recruitment in the 80s.

How were you selected for the strike force?

A signal was sent to my unit in Jaji to report to the Presidency and I reported.

Getting a job with a telecommunication company is seen by many as a dream come through, especially
for the mass of young Nigerians who daily look forward to a high paying white collar job with supposedly reputable companies. But recent revelations have revealed that most of the companies Nigerians believe are havens of comfort and financial security are nothing but slave camps.

It has been revealed that there are a whole lot of unethical practices that are alien to our labour laws which are being practiced in these companies that have reduced them literal slave camps where the rights of workers are routinely trampled upon without remedy available to the traumatized workforce.

From deposit of original certificates as collateral for jobs to signing of secret bonds, these practices are beginning to take their tolls on young Nigerians who may want to aspire to greater heights in their careers. Such is the case concerning Christopher Akpofuno.

Akpofuno Christopher had put in two years in one of the GSM companies and on getting to the office one faithful morning, he was asked to bring the original copy of his
certificate with a clause that if he did not produce it his appointment would be terminated.

According to Akpofuno, "I cannot see myself giving anybody my certificate as collateral for my work." Not all can be as bold as Mr. Akpofuno to damn the consequences
of disobeying the 'order'.

Also, Oladapo Adebayo (not real name) relates his experience: “I was employed in late 2006 by Contact Center Services Limited, a Globacom subsidiary; four years later I was asked to sign a document with another company called Global Manpower alongside a bond”. “I was not given a copy of the bond, neither was I informed or advised of the content”.

“I was asked to sign it to guarantee my job in the presence of a senior official of Globacom, and my cluster manager, who gave me a minute to sign the document and hand it back to him”.

“In November 2012, I got an offer of employment from an insurance firm, I wrote an official letter of resignation with
enough notice time,” I was however shocked when I was informed that I will have to pay the sum of N10 million for
me to leave”.

Narratives on the experiences of those who have been caught in this scheme can go on and on.

One thing is certain, there is an increasing number of companies who are involved in this kind of absurdities in employment terms.

It is not only the telecoms companies that are in this habit, other so called multinational companies have also joined
the fray.

For instance, Kia motors, the Indian automobile company is another organisation that is notorious for this. It was learnt that to be employed in the company, an applicant should be prepared to tender his/her original certificate as a bond to the organisation.

According to a staff who craved anonymity, "they say it is an insurance that you will not leave the company abruptly without working with them for three years."

Adebayo's case is pathetic because he could not resign to pick up an appointment in another organisation as he had unknowingly signed a bond that says for him to leave the company, he has to pay the sum of N10million.

A letter to Adebayo by Executive Director, Human Resources in the company, Mr. AdewaleSangowawa, reads: “Please recall that it was clearly stated in clause 5 of the
agreement part of the bond as follows, In the event that the employee disengages from the services of Glo at any time
before the expiration of the bond, the employee hereby agrees to pay Contact Center Services Limited, CCSL on behalf of Globacom the sum of N10million."

According to him, “You are to write a cheque to pay the above stated sum of N10,000,000.00 (Ten Million Naira) in
full amount in favour of Glo Mobile Limited and send to the Human Resources Department. In the alternative, pay to
Account Number 2576747778111 at any Sterling Bank branch and thereafter send the teller evidencing the payment to the same Human Resources Department”.

An official of the Ministry of Labour, in response to enquiries stated that “no employee can be forcefully employed against his will, just because he has signed a
contract with the employer; it is even illegal when the employee is unaware of the bond”.

Some legal experts have also faulted the signing of employment bonds by employee saying that “Contracts entered between two parties if it is one sided then such contract would be null and void. The Globacom contract bonds are one sided.

According to the labour Act, no contract can be enforced on any person if the contract which is being so enforced causes any harm to the person on whom it’s enforced and
if performed would violate principles of natural justice."

But in a country reputed for impunity, this might just be another of the many harrowing experiences Nigerians go through in the hands of employers who have taken advantage of the high unemployment rate in the country to
practice 'slave labour'.
66-year old man from Gigante, Huila, confessed to the local newspaper, La Nacion , he had overdosed on Viagra in an attempt to
please his new girlfriend.

However, as a result of his enthusiastic penis-enhancing-drug use, the man, who claims to be a former member of the
Gigante municipal council, found that his penis had gone into an apparently constant state of erection.

Initially, he didn’t mind his altered state, but found out his member began to hurt a few days into the erection, the reports say.

Gigante doctors were alarmed by the complexity of the issue and referred the man to Neiva, the department capital with
more ample medical facilities.

Medics at the Neiva hospital alerted the man his penis was inflamed, fractured and showed signs of gangrene, and had to be amputated to prevent the inflammation and gangrene from spreading to other parts of his body.

They informed the patient his only option was amputation so the inflammation and gangrene would stop spreading to other parts of his body.

A doctor told local newspaper La Nacion: 'The patient showed bruising on the testicles and penis, was treated and is recovering well.'

As a result of the incident, the Neiva hospital issued a warning for men to not use penis enhancing drugs or erectile dysfunction medication without prescription from their doctors.

There was no information on the age of the new girlfriend or if the couple is still together, says the Toronto Sun .

VATICAN IS NOT SURE OF HEAVEN AGAIN!

The second coming of Jesus Christ may
The SPOKESPERSON for the Vatican officially announced some days ago that the second coming of Jesus, the only son of the God, may not happen now after
all, but urged followers to still continue with their faith, regardless of the news.

Cardinal Giorgio Salvadore told WWN that this years 1,981st anniversary is to be the Vatican’s last in regards to waiting for
the Lord to return to Earth.

“We just feel Jesus is not coming back by the looks of it.” he said. “It’s been ages like. He’s probably flat out doing other really good things for people somewhere else.”

Nearly two thousand years ago, Jesus promised his disciples that he would come again in chapter John 14:1-3 of the bible:
“There are many homes up where my Father lives, and I am going to prepare them for your coming. When everything is
ready, then I will come and get you, so that you can always be with Me where I am. If this weren’t so, I would tell you plainly”

The Vatican defended Jesus’ broken promise, claiming “he was probably drinking wine” at the time when he made the comments.

“Having the ability to turn water into wine had its ups and its downs.” added Cardinal Salvadore. “We all make promises we can’t keep when we’re drunk. Jesus was no different.”

The church said it will now focus attentions on rebuilding its reputation around the world, but will keep an optimistic mind
for the savior’s second coming.

Big penis, big problem in a marriage: study

The study, published in the online Journal PloS One, was led by US and Kenyan researchers, found that
every extra inch
boosts the likelihood of wives engaging in extramarital affairs.

"We included this variable because of the interest and controversies that surround men's pursuit of penile enlargement ostensibly to sexually satisfy their spouses
while women do not necessarily approve of it," the researchers wrote. "Surprisingly, [having a] spouse [with a] longer fully erect
penis was associated with increased likelihood of the women having extra -marital partnerships. From these results, every one inch longer penis increased the likelihood of women being involved in extra-marital partnership by almost one-and-half times," the researchers wrote.

This is apparently because a longer penis increases sexual discomfort. The researchers quoted one of the women in the
study as saying, “…some penises may be large yet my vagina is small, when he tries to insert it inside, it hurts so much that I will have to look for another man who has a
smaller one [penis] and can do it in a way I can enjoy”.

According to the study, domestic violence and denying a woman a preferred sex position also increased the likelihood of extra-marital relationships.

Meanwhile factors which reduce the likelihood of a wife cheating on her husband are her age (older wives were less
likely to cheat), and how sexually satisfied she is.

“Some [men] just take a minute and leaves you there when you are still ‘hanging’… You cannot even tell if this thing is over or still continuing. Sometime we aren't satisfied yet we can't explain it [to our partners]. However, when we get men who can satisfy us, we do not waste such chances," one woman told the researchers.

THE TRUTH AT LAST? .
The post had appeared online quite late in the day and all hell was let loose as, editors gathered at
the “Table” to brainstorm on the explosive information contained in the article purportedly ascribed to Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, a former governor of Borno State and a recurrent decimal in the Boko
Haram debacle.

The writer of the post had used a catchy headline “Breaking News: Ali Modu Sheriff Threatens to Expose APC Link with Boko Haram.” For some on the editorial board, this piece of information, because that is what it is, a short but loaded piece of information that is capable of changing the game and altering the current fight against Boko Haram Islamic insurgents in the North-eastern part of Nigeria. An insurgency that has claimed the lives of several thousands of Nigerians, displaced countless others and left the economy of that part of the country in ruin.

To the uninitiated on the board, this piece of information reproduced here maybe too hot and sensitive to publish and expose to Nigerians what some now estimate is the truth coming out at last, but then what is actually hot about it and what has not been speculated or reasoned before about it?
If somebody like Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, as alleged, had threatened to expose APC’s link with Boko Haram and how Sanusi had served as the bridge for the funding of terrorist activities by moving funds from APC accounts to outside sources to procure weapons for Boko Haram, then the Nigerian government may not have to look too far, as SAS, as the former Borno State governor is fondly called by his admirers, is perhaps the greatest authority on Boko Haram and its destructive campaigns.

The post had said: “The former governor of Borno State and leading member of APC, Ali Modu Sheriff has threatened to expose the link between APC and Boko Haram. He made this threat after he accused Tinubu and the leadership of the APC of denying him a major role in shaping up the APC in
preparedness for next year's election. He also suspects that Tinubu has hijacked the party for his personal and selfish interests. Sherrif accused Buhari of being a coward, weak and wimpish general who has no stomach to challenge Tinubu's excesses. He told our correspondent how he single handedly formed Boko haram with the support and backing of Buhari, Atiku, and the northern leaders. He alleged that all the money Boko Haram looted from their armed robbery activities was deposited in APC accounts to make it difficult to trace to
them. He revealed how APC are allegedly funding Boko Haram through sophisticated channels of networks. He fingered Sanusi as the mastermind of the movement of funds from APC accounts, launders it, and use it to import arms for Boko Haram in the international arms market. We understand that most of the main arms dealers who supply Boko Haram are also responsible for supplying Al-qaeda, in Somalia, Mali, Algeria, and Kenya. They also have cells in Chad, Cameroon, and Niger. It is now obvious that APC and its leadership are at
the heart of terrorist activities in Nigeria.

They have displayed their arrogant disregard to law, by directing their members in the National Assembly to shut down the democratically elected government, and block the budget. They believe that they are untouchable, and don't care if Nigeria burns, because they can easily, wrongly and falsely blame the government, and the gullible people will believe them.”

As hard sell as the above may seem, a closer look at the history of Boko Haram and recent happenings and utterances of certain characters will reveal a need to weigh this post and begin to question the characters mentioned in it.

Ali Modu Sheriff and Boko Haram
If there is anything that is uncontrovertibly known about Boko Haram and their devilish activities, it is the role played by the former Borno State governor in forming the sect, supporting its growth and his prominent contribution to the transformation of the group to what it is today.

It will be belabouring the facts to reproduce here, Alimodu Sheriff’s involvement with Boko Haram; it will suffice to say that whatever statement credited to him should be considered weighty and authoritative. It is also instructive to note that the Senator seems to be grievously aggrieved at the moment, especially after his reported shouting face off with Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, who many believe has hijacked the All Progressive Congress. So Senator Ali Modu Sheriff may just have a reason to spill the beans.

Buhari, Atiku, Northern Elders and the Criminal Silence Close watchers of the Boko Haram insurgency and almost every Nigerian agree that the duo of General Buhari and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar have been too silent for too long about the
activities of Boko Haram in the North East.

It is on record that General Buhari has till date refused to come out and publicly
denounce the insurgents or any other form of violent attacks taking place in parts of the North by Boko Haram, while Alhaji Atiku Abubakar only recently shed what an analyst described as hypocritical crocodile tears over the killings in the North East.

That the two of them are prominent citizens of Nigeria and important rallying figures in the North puts a burden on them
to rise to the occasion and find lasting solution to the problems facing their region. More so, Atiku hails from Adamawa State, a state that remains a hotbed of Boko Haram
activities. But they both have decided to acquiesce to a conspiratorial silence that beats the imagination of right thinking Nigerians, which have fuelled beliefs in certain quarters that there may be more to it than meets the eye.

Aside General Buhari and Alhaji Atiku, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff was also alleged to have mentioned the involvement of
Northern elders in the nurturing of Boko Haram insurgents.

This may not come to many Nigerians as a surprise if the threat of the Northern Elders Forum to make the country ungovernable for President Goodluck Jonathan in the run up to the 2011 general elections is brought to mind. They have practically, or so it seems, brought governance to a standstill
especially in the North East.

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi

The case against suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria seems to be getting complicated by the day. From accusations of maladministration to fraudulent activities and now to terrorism financing, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi seems to have his plate full and overflowing of crawling vermin.

Before the alleged threat by Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, there had been a buzz in the media over a document linking the
suspended CBN governor to Boko Haram. Though APC and other attack dogs of the Kano prince had accused an aide of President Jonathan of being the source of the document, Sanusi has not come out to absolve himself of the allegation before the latest revelation.

As if to corroborate this accusation, the SSS, had in defending the seizure of Mr. Sanusi’s international Passport, said he was still under investigation for matters bordering on terrorism.

Nigerians and indeed the world will be waiting on Mr. Sanusi to come out clean of this latest accusation by defending himself and laying bare the facts.

The APC

The APC had reportedly said that if they took over power, Boko Haram will be curtailed in one month. Many wonder why if they have the magic wand, they have not shared the strategy or trick of erasing Boko Haram in one month with the federal
government in the face of the heavy casualties being recorded in the North East or are they merely looking on and playing
politics with the lives of innocent Nigerians? More noteworthy is the fact that Borno, Adamawa and Yobe are APC states, why haven’t they done wonders in those states yet? The way and manner the All Progressive party has carried itself and
conducted its affairs lately, especially as it relates to the Boko Haram insurgency leaves more to be desired as it continues
to politicise the mindless killings of hapless Nigerians.

Though not much can be said about Ali Modu’s alleged accusation of the party using its accounts as a route for ferrying money for the funding of the activities of Boko Haram, Nigerians may have to look more closely at the party and what it stands for!

A forensic criminologist and security co-ordinator at the American University of Nigeria, Dr. Lionel Von Frederck Rawlins has disclosed that Al-Qaeda and Al-Shabab

terrorist organisations operating in the Islamic Maghreb and Arabian peninsula have been helping members of Boko Haram carry out their operations in Nigeria.

Rawlins, a US marine, who has worked in Europe, Africa, Asia, Central and South America, the Middle East and Far East as a counter-terrorist specialist, explained that

Nigeria is under siege from terrorists from other lands.

He advised the Nigerian government to seek help in dealing with the insurgency.

According to him, the Nigerian government and people “only have to ask and they will send people.

“Some people believe that it is politically-motivated, may be it was and it started off that way; some believe it is religiously-motivated but I don’t know if that is true, I

doubt it because Muslims are killing Muslims as well, not just Christians and non-Muslims; so if you want to look at it that way, it is a fallacy. What I would say is that it has got to the point where Boko Haram is killing people because Boko Haram is now proving a point that it can kill and get away with it. It has gone beyond religion, politics and ideology. It is a belief: ‘I can kill people and I can get away with it and let me show you I can do it.’ That is what it is now. It is a showman thing.

”A case in point: Look at what they did or tried to do in Giwa Barracks, Maiduguri recently. They tried to take on a military base! That alone tells you that these people are so emboldened they don’t even care about attacking a military base where soldiers are with weapons. It has gone beyond the normal talk of politics, religion, ideology or corruption. It is now showmanship: ‘I can kill you if I want and there is nothing you can do.’”

He explained that Boko Haram currently receives help from other globally recognised terror groups. What you have

now are “insurgents from other countries. They are trained by Al-Qaeda, Al-Shabab and other groups. They send people here to train them. They also go for training and

come back but you must remember, many terrorist groups are in this together and they don’t have problem training and supporting each other because they know that one day, they can call each other for help and when they do, they expect that you will come and help. They may say ‘we need you to help us get Mali, and then you send people because they trained you, gave you funding and all the resources you need, so that was done for you to pay back. So, you are correct to say they got people to help them. There are times also that survivors report that people who came with Boko Haram to kill them were speaking a language they have never heard before;

nothing out of Nigeria, so they could be French, Spanish, something from Mali, CAR, Kenya, etc. They know instinctively that it is not a Nigerian tongue which proves the fact that they bring in outsiders.”

He said the Nigerian peoploe need to give military the support needed to boost morale. “We have to give the military the support that it needs and if you don’t give

them that support, it is very demoralizing for the soldiers.

It erodes their confidence and their morale to know that ‘I am fighting to defend you and then when Boko Haram insurgents are killed, you turn around and blame me, but

when Boko Haram kill 50, you don’t say anything.’ You don’t go after them with the same force and the same venom; you don’t go after them like you go after the military when people are killed and to me, that is unfair. If you are going to do it, do it both ways. Tell the bad guys that what they are doing is wrong and tell the good guys as well that what they are doing is wrong when they go wrong.”

The people of Amaisi Uvuru, a community in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area,
Imo State are in deep shock and agony following the horrible death of four- year-old Adaeze Gloria Eze, who was hanged by 18- year-old Franklin Njoku, a tenant in the home of her father, Martin Eke, a building contractor.

Franklin, a native of Ohekelem, Ngor Okpala, Imo State, hanged the innocent child on a stunted palm tree in a nearby bush, in a futile attempt to extort N100,000 from the girl’s parents to register for the
West African Senior Secondary Certificate
Examination. Franklin made the revelation in a confessional statement to the police after he was arrested by men of the State Criminal Investigation Department (Homicide Division) of the Imo State
Police Command.

As Sunday Sun gathered from the Imo State
Commissioner of Police, Mr Abdulmajid Ali and grief- stricken parents and relations of the deceased four-year-old, the tragic chain of events that led to little Adaeze’s death began in the evening of Saturday, April 5, 2014, when her parents could not find her at home. They searched for her within the
neighbourhood to no avail. Promptly other neighbours joined the search for the little girl in all the nooks and crannies of the village in vain. Even more curious was
the fact that Franklin joined in the search for the missing child.

Incidentally, Eke had received had received an anonymous letter a week before the disappearance of his late daughter. In the letter he was instructed to pay the sum of N100,000 with a warning that if he failed to comply, he should kiss the life of his
daughter goodbye. Eke dismissed the letter, which was unsigned as a joke. On the fateful Saturday, Franklin made good the threat to kidnap the little girl.

In a chat with Sunday Sun , he recounted how he abducted the girl.

He said: “On April 5, I went to the market and on my way I saw my landlord’s daughter playing with her age mates. Immediately I called her to follow me. She
was used to me. I took her into the bush and used some clothing items to cover her face. I put a rope around her neck and then suspended her from the top of a short palm tree around noon. From time to time I went into the bush to check on her and see whether she was in good condition.

“When the parents started searching for her, I joined them. Then I told them about a native doctor in my village who can tell them the whereabouts of the child and reveal the identity of the person responsible for the girl’s disappearance. The parents agreed and the father gave me N300 for transport to get the herbalist.

I actually didn’t have any herbalist in mind but I was looking for money to pay for my WASCE which is N100,000. When I got somewhere I wrote a list of fake items, which I said were required by the herbalist. I rented the house from the girl’s parents two months ago and I was staying there until the incident happened.”

But the bubble burst for Franklin when the girl’s father noticed that the handwriting looked similar to the one in the anonymous letter. This discovery made Eke. suspicious that his tenant might be responsible for
the disappearance of his four-year-old daughter.

Promptly he invited the police to interrogate Franklin. He confessed and eventually took the police to the isolated bush where he hanged the four-year-old on a stunted palm tree. By this time, the girl was dead as the rope used to suspend her had inched up the neck and choked her to death. The case was instantly transferred to the office of the Deputy Commissioner
of Police in-charge of the State CID, Owerri, Mr David Folawiyo, who then ordered the officer in-charge of Homicide Unit, Supol Innocent Obi and his team, who moved to recover the body of the dead girl.

Investigation by Sunday Sun revealed that Franklin was expelled from the hostel of the Evangel International Academy earlier in the year for allegedly pilfering the items of his roommates. This made him seek alternative accommodation at the residence of Eke, which happened to be within a walking distance to his school.

Reverend Innocent Nwannehiudo, Superintendent of Assemblies of God Church, owners of the school, confirmed to Sunday Sun in an interview that the
authorities of the school had actually expelled him from the hostel but allowed him to sit for the senior school certificate examination.

Shocked at the alleged deed of his son, Franklin’s father, Jude Njoku bluntly said that his son must bear the consequences of his action, stating that Franklin had caused him and the entire Njoku family too many
problems. He disclosed that Franklin had earlier had an incestuous relationship with a female member of the extended family, which had cost him N120,000 to cleanse the land in keeping with the tradition of the
community to prevent his entire family from being ex- communicated.

The distraught father of the little girl told said: “It is unbelievable that Franklin Njoku hanged my four-year-old daughter, Gloria. He is used to our little daughter and we didn’t expect him to do what he did. Life is terrible.”
A fresh face-off is imminent between Petroleum Resources Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke and the National Assembly over an alleged
N10billion expenditure on chartered jets between July 2012 and early 2014.

The minister, it was learnt, has no intention of honouring summons from the House of
Representatives Committee on Public Accounts on the alleged extra-budgetary expenditure. Smarting over how travel records of the minister got to the committee, Sunday Sun gathered that two of her aides were reportedly fired last week. It was also learnt that the House of Representatives Committee on Public
Accounts, which is probing the N10 billion jet expenses is in possession of the manifest of the minister’s trips using the chartered jets. National Assembly sources confirmed yesterday that the commitee had secured information which showed that the owners of Challenger 850 jet were placed on
retainership for exclusive use of the minister and that Vista Jet is being owed for 12 months.

The sources had put the basic cost per month at 500,000 Euros (about N130 million) totaling some N1.5 billion as outstanding debt for 12 months. It was
confirmed that the owner of the hangar where the jet was usually parked, Evergreen, has already made submissions to the committee and had even supplied
flight records. So far, the petroleum minister has refused to respond to inquiries from the Public Accounts Committee while some sources indicated that just like the House Committee, the minister may also run into trouble with the Senate. Just before going on the Easter recess, the Senate
Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream) had written the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to demand records of its expenses on jets hire and aircraft charters generally.

Since October 2013, the Senator Magnus Abe-led committee had demanded for the records from the NNPC, asking the corporation to supply it with records
of its existing aircraft and payments on chartered jets.

Senator Abe told newsmen last week that the NNPC was yet to respond to its enquiries and that the committee might be left with no other option than to summon both the minister and the Group Managing
Director(GMD), Mr. Andrew Yakubu. But
investigations indicated that Yakubu may have washed his hands off the deal by not paying the outstanding debt owed the private airline.

“The NNPC has refused to pay the outstanding amount owed for chartering Challenger 850 jet because they were not involved in this particular jet hire…The only person who knows of the deal has been fired and when the GMD got to know of it, he balked and since then, the relationship between him and the
minister has soured…”

The Committee has fixed a public hearing on the matter for April 28, while the Senator Abe committee has not said anything on what it intends to do should
the NNPC continue to ignore the panel on the records.
The story of Mrs. Franca Aguele Ailabojie is like fairy tale from a story book. But it is as true as it is real.

The fair-skinned woman stood in the midst of death with her three children, had a feel of death, smelled death in the stench of the burning human flesh mixed with the billowing sooth from vehicles on fire, and
they all got out alive, miraculously.

Out of fire.

As they stood there at the middle of the Nyanya bus station when the bang of death rocked the spot, she was dazed, confused and stood fixed to a spot. But how her little kids managed to also remain there with
her is an explanation she could not muster. Yet, their story is real. At the Pan-Raf Hospital in the ghetto of Nyanya, Phase 4, Sunday Sun saw the four that cheated death full of life.

When Sunday Sun got to the hospital, it was simply amazing to see the woman and her children just fit. When the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) released the list of the survivors in hospitals, the puzzle fell in places that the four names with same address and surnames and in the same hospital must be members of the same family. A text message to the contact number attached to the names, the same number, revealed it all. The owner of the line accepted to speak and also confirmed that the four survivors are of the same family.

Getting to the hospital and seeing the survivors created a different scene when the younger brother to the woman told the story of how his sister, baby nephew and two young nieces escaped death.

Brush with death

Prince Aguele Abel, a student in Keffi had that early Monday morning dropped off the sister and her children at Nyanya to catch a bus to Utako, in the Abuja metropolis, from where they would take another bus to Benin City, Edo State where they live.
Prince Abel who recalled vividly what happened said his sister was so dazed that when he ran back into the bus station to locate where they were after the blast,
she was just moving in all directions and even asked him, like one woken from a deep sleep, what actually happened. He was the one that explained to her to bring back her mind, that the park had been bombed.
He said he did things he could not even understand how they came to him, daring the flames and smoke all around, and braving it to where his sister and her children were to rescue them.

Just visitors

“That morning, I had wanted to take them to town where they would pick a bus to Benin, but changed my mind because I had a lecture to attend and taking them further would have affected my time for the lecture, so I dropped them at Nyanya to continue with their journey. In my hurry, I didn’t even assist her take their luggage to the bus. They had queued with other passengers to board when I left. It was less than five minutes after I left, and just on the Nyanya Bridge, when the bang came. I hurriedly found a place to park my car and ran back to where I left my sister and her
children. Before I could get there, the entire place had been covered in dark smoke. Luckily, I managed to locate the spot where they stood in the queue.

Surprisingly, there were all intact, except
Elizabeth, my sister’s first child, whose left leg was badly injured.”

Seven-year-old Elizabeth in hospital bed is still in terrible pains with her left leg totally covered in POP from hip to the toes. But her stable condition is still some miracle given where she came out from that fateful day.

Bleeding to death

Her uncle, Prince, said by the time they got to the hospital, she had gone pale and fading away after severe loss of blood from the injury that almost crushed the entire leg. Prince immediately donated blood to sustain his little niece that had been with him in Jos.

The father of the children, Emerson Idiakose Ailabojie, could not find enough words to describe the miracle his life and family has become. He said: “Do you
know that my family had never travelled to Abuja or anywhere in the North in the past six years. It was few weeks ago that my wife, with the children visited her younger brother, Prince. They were actually on their
way back to Benin when this happened. I have been wondering where I would have been if got a message that my entire family was wiped out. I still feel like I am dreaming to recall all that happened. It was about 10am that morning I got a call that my family was at the spot of the bombing. I left Benin immediately and drove down to Abuja. At about 3pm, I was already here. I actually don’t find enough words to explain
how I feel. Yes, the pain is there for the calamity that befell the nation. I feel bad for those that died in the incident, and I say it that the attack was unnecessary and callous. I feel for those that lost family members, and I still imagine, where I would have been or what would have been my predicament if my whole family died. I plead with Nigerians to do all that is possible to end this problem, the killing of innocent Nigerians is not justifiable and I can’t know how these persons killed everyday on the streets are part of the problems anybody would be complaining about. As I thank God for sparing my entire family, I also pray Him to spare the citizens of this nation from these attacks. I think
we have had enough calamities in the country. How would it be announced to the families that lost their dear ones that they just died in such gruesome blast?”

Miracle 4

As Sunday Sun got to the hospital, there was a woman and her little girl at the tap outside washing some dishes. It was when someone stepped out to direct us where to go that he pointed at the woman and the girl and said they are the people that survived.

As they stepped into the ward where Elizabeth is nursing the injury on her leg, the woman, Franca, her mother came in with her little girl, Christabel, 4, who
escaped without a scratch on her. Little Nathaniel, the baby his mother strapped to her back and queued to board the bombed bus was sleeping, and his father turned him slightly to show the little scratch he has on
his forehead. That is all Baby Nathaniel, a year and four months, left with from the bomb that killed over hundred people. Their mother also had a little injury that is as good as nothing. The real shock and import of the miracle they are unfolded when Prince showed in his phone, picture of the bombed and mangled bus they had queued to board with two dead bodies of the driver and the conductor just at the spot where this family was.

Death all around them

“Many people in that bus died. Many that stood in the same queue with my sister and her children also died. But they are here alive. While I remain grateful to God for such miracle, I feel the pains of what I witnessed that day. Hundreds died. I saw the whole place littered with dead bodies, many burnt. That was a dastardly act of wickedness. I can’t still understand what kind of human being that would feel good to kill human beings that way. To tell you how close that was; the car that exploded, that is where the bomb was planted was like few steps away from where I parked and dropped my sister and the children. I am sure if I didn’t hurry out the time I did, it would have been a different story for me. I still wonder how my sister and the l children survived, when people across
the road were killed and the Okada riders poles away by the roadside were killed. People were cut into pieces and many roasted and I keep asking, what did they do wrong to be killed this way?”

A different story

With the extent of disaster at Nyanya that day of death, seeing the face of Emerson Ailabojie smiling was some relief, and as he asked where he would have been, it was a recall of people that never survived the shock of losing an entire family in a disaster. When the Catholic Church in Madala was bombed on 2011 Christmas Day, a particular woman whose husband and all the children died in the blast
was a sorrowful sight. It was the same with a family in Diobu Port Harcourt that lost all their children in the Sosoliso crash in December 2005. Remembering the extent of sorrow that inhabited their home during a
visit really brought clearer the weight of what happened to this family. And the lucky man knows that yes, he has become a symbol of miracle and good news, and repeatedly said during the visit, “I don’t know how to thank God because I can’t still imagine what my life would have been if it happened the other way. I was already losing control when I got the callm until I was told that my entire family survived. So
since that afternoon I got here, I have been in this hospital ward, and I have been picking the bills on my own though I heard the federal government is assisting families of injured victims to handle the cost of treatment. I believe God they will remember those of us in private hospitals. But in all, I am not less thankful to God because what He did for me is worth more than any bill. That my family of four
persons was in the middle of that blast and all survived is a story I still don’t know how to tell.”
Nigeria’s northeast Borno state said on Thursday only 20 of up to 129 schoolgirls abducted by Islamist rebels were back with their parents, and the military retracted an earlier statement in which it said it had freed most of them.

The armed forces said on Wednesday that the military had freed all but eight of the schoolgirls abducted by Islamist rebels from the Boko Haram group in a rescue operation.

Monday’s mass abduction of the schoolgirls aged between 15 and 18 shocked Nigeria, a nation growing increasingly inured to tales of horror from its bloody insurgency in the northeast. The raid on the Chibok school showed how the five-year-old Boko Haram insurgency has brought lawlessness to
swathes of the semi-arid, poor region. Hundreds of people have been killed in violence in recent months. “So far, we have seen 20 students, many of whom escaped from the abductors. The principal of the school has so far received (them),” Borno state Education Commissioner Inuwa Kubo told Reuters by telephone from the school.

“Many of the parents are still waiting in pain.” A statement late on Thursday from Defence Headquarters spokesman Chris Olukolade concurred with this.

“In the light of the denial by the principal of the school, the Defence Headquarters wishes to defer to the school principal and governor’s statement of the number of students still missing and retract (the) … earlier statement while the search continues,” Olukolade said. Kubo had said the girls who were free had escaped, rather than been rescued by Nigerian troops. Olukolade did not comment on that claim in his statement.

MISSING GIRLS

An uncle of two teenagers snatched by Boko Haram militants from the government secondary school at Chibok in Borno state said the search was still going on.

“Two of my nieces, Laraba and Hauwa, are still missing, … 20 other girls from our village are missing,” Isaiah Rabo told Reuters by phone from Chibok. His daughter was among those who escaped from the abductors.

Kubo said he was not sure the exact number abducted, but said they were less than 129. Boko Haram, whose armed struggle for an Islamic state has gone on for almost five years, is seen as the gravest security threat to Africa’s biggest economy and top oil producer.

Kidnapping girls is a tactic Boko Haram, whose name means “Western education is forbidden”, have used repeatedly since early last year. It has echoes of Uganda’s Lord’s Resistance Army, which abducted thousands of school-aged girls across central Africa to use as forced “wives” for their commanders. The kidnapping occurred the same day a bomb blast, also blamed on Boko Haram, killed 75 people on the edge of the capital Abuja, stirring fears of violence spreading from the north of Africa’s most populous nation.

President Goodluck Jonathan met his National Security Council on Thursday to review the security situation, although the results of that meeting were not made public.
A rapper who cut off his own penis before attempting suicide will not have the organ reattached, it was revealed today.

Andre Johnson, who has performed with the Wu-Tang Clan, was rushed to hospital on Wednesday after he attempted suicide by jumping from a second-floor balcony at an apartment building in North Hollywood.
Mr Johnson was found on the sidewalk critically injured and was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center along with his severed penis. Although Mr Johnson is in a stable
condition, his penis was unable to be saved, TMZ reported today.

Rapper friends who live in the building told TMZ today that, without warning, Mr Johnson cut his penis off and jumped from the second floor.

The incident happened so quickly, that by the time friends made it to the ground floor, Mr Johnson was on his feet and 'running around screaming', the site reported.

No hard drugs were reportedly involved but the rapper is believed to have mental health issues.

Johnson is a rapper who goes by the name Christ Bearer in the group Northstar. The act was discovered by Wu-Tang producer and rapper RZA in 1998. He produced their 2004 debut album RZA Presents Northstar.
An LAPD spokesman told MailOnline on Wednesday that an individual was taken by ambulance to a local area hospital following an incident shortly before 1am this morning at the 4500 block of Colfax Avenue in North Hollywood.

The LAPD would not confirm the individual's identity or injuries to MailOnline.
Islamic terrorists struck for the fourth time in three days in the country, killing 20 people including a traditional ruler
in
attacks on Borno State, local government and security officials said Wednesday.

The unprecedented string of attacks has many questioning the role of politicians in the insurgency and the ability of the military to contain the five-year-old Islamic uprising that has resulted in the death of more than 1,500 people this year, compared with an estimated 3,600 from 2010 to 2012.
Yesterday morning, gunmen attacked the village of Wala, in Gwoza district, and killed 18 people, and injured several others, according to a local government official and
intelligence agent. They both spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to speak to reporters.

Wala village is in Gwoza Local Government Area, some 130 kilometres southwest of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The local government official said: “We are in difficult times in Gwoza Local Government; deaths and killings have
become a daily affair; 18 people were killed in Wala this morning by the Boko Haram gunmen.”

A senior officer of the Department of State Security Service (DSS) also confirmed the killing in Wala, but asked not to be quoted.

“We have just received the report from our officers in Gwoza that the Boko Haram gunmen attacked Wala village and killed 18 poor souls there; it is a rather an unfortunate and sad development despite our efforts up here,” he said.

The DSS officer also confirmed that some 12 hours earlier, another set of gunmen attacked Sabon-Kasuawa village in Hawul Local Government Area, 210 kilometres south of Maiduguri, where they killed a district head and his guard.

“They simply walked right into the palace of the monarch and shot him in his bedroom, and on their way out they also shot his guard before fleeing,” said politician Hyeldi Bwala.

Just last week, the Emir of the embattled Gwoza, Idrissa Timta, had appealed to the government to “save our souls”, saying his people were being attacked daily.

“We in Gwoza have suffered too many attacks, killings and destruction in the past weeks and months. There is no day that we don’t mourn the death of at least seven people who are being killed by the insurgents,” the monarch had told journalists.

“Our people have been forced to flee, our markets no longer operate optimally, food items, goods and wares are no longer coming into Gwoza for a long time now. We want action from government so that lives can be saved; if nothing is done, we have no other option than to desert our homelands and flee into the neighbouring Cameroun towns where we may perhaps get protection,” he added.

Gwoza is the one of mountainous countryside of Borno State that shares borders with Cameroun in its south and
Sambissa in its north. Gwoza’s rocky mountains have served as a hideout for Boko Haram terrorists.
A farmer, Jafar Umar, and his new wife, Rukayat, were on Tuesday arraigned in a Kosubosu Area Court in Kwara State for
alleged adultery.

The duo was arraigned for adultery contrary to sections 387 and 388 of the Penal Code Law following a complaint by
one Bashiru Haruna.

Bashiru said he married Rukayat on January 5, 2013 at Kuburufu Village in the Baruten Local Government Area of
Kwara State.

The complainant said sometime after the marriage, Rukayat took permission to travel to Shiya Village and failed to return home since then.

“To my surprise, I learnt that Rukayat had remarried and had conceived for another man (Umar) without seeking a divorce from me,’’ he said.

The complainant sought the relief of the court to grant an order enabling him to claim the dowry and other expenses incurred in the marriage.

Umar, on his part, admitted that a relationship existed between him and Rukayat, adding that she had a child for
him.

Rukayat, however, denied the allegation.
In his ruling, the presiding judge, Mallam Ahmed Yahaya, admitted the two accused persons to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with a surety each in like sum.

He adjourned the case till April 15 for hearing.
Policemen attached to the Orile Police Division in Lagos State have apprehended two gangsters for allegedly raping and
killing an 18-year-old commercial sex worker, Oluwatosin Ami.

It learnt that the suspects, John-Paul
Chukwuebuka, 19; and Ebuka Chimudi, 22; belonged to a gang which specialised in luring young ladies to hotels with the aim of dispossessing them of their belongings and
raping them.

According to police authorities, on April 10, 2014, two members of the gang posed as customers and visited the Happy Day Hotel, Orile.

Oluwatosin was approached by the suspects and she took them into her room at the hotel which she secured at the cost of N3, 500 per day.

The suspects were said to have overpowered Oluwatosin and stuffed a cloth in her mouth to prevent her from
screaming.

She was also bound by the hands, while the suspects took turns in raping her.

Afterwards, the suspects were said to have stolen her phone and money before locking her inside the room.

The suspects were also said to have taken the key of the room and tossed it into a canal.

A relative of the deceased said the following morning, when the hotel attendants wanted to clean the hotel rooms, they knocked on the door of the room where Oluwatosin was, but there was no response.

It was learnt that the attendants then used a spare key to open the door and the corpse of Oluwatosin was found.

Her father, Babatunde, told PUNCH Metro that the matter was reported at the Orile Police Station and his daughter’s corpse was taken to the Mainland Hospital, Yaba.

Babatunde said he had no idea that his daughter was a commercial sex worker.

He said the family had been looking for her since December last year and had reported her missing at the Adeniji Adele Police Division on the Lagos Island.

He said, “My daughter was in JSS3 in 2012 when she dropped out of school. She said she wanted to be a sales girl and we got a job for her, but she did not stay there.

Suddenly, in December last year, she left the house and did not return home.

“Her mother and I called her on the telephone several times, but she would say she was fine and putting up in a friend’s place. She used to visit her grandmother, but in January, she stopped picking calls.
“All attempts to get her proved abortive. We did not hear anything from her until we received a telephone call a few days ago, saying her corpse had been found in a hotel.”

The mother of the deceased, Muibat, lamented that Oluwatosin was her third child that would die within five years.

She said the deceased was her first born and she had only two children remaining.
She said she did her best as a parent and wondered why her daughter chose such a lifestyle.

When our correspondent approached the hotel for comment, the employee at the front desk said the management had
given instruction that journalists should not be spoken to.

However, an employee of the hotel told the police that the rule of the house was that more than two patrons should not be in a room at the same time.

The employee said he was not aware that Oluwatosin had taken two people into her room.

The suspects, in their statements, confessed to killing Oluwatosin, but said it was by mistake.

They said they only played a minor role in the crime as the prime suspects were still at large.

The police explained that 19-year-old Chukwuebuka was arrested by members of the Odua Peoples Congress at City Point Hotel, Apapa, where he had gone to commit a similar crime.

Through Chukwuebuka’s confession, Chimudi was arrested.

Chukwuebuka identified other suspects as Williams, Victor, Joshua and Kojo.

He said, “We have been doing this thing for a while now. We have operated in brothels in Ajegunle and Kirikiri. I have raped over five girls, but none of them died.

“We operate in hotels where there is loud music and many rooms. We usually use rooms that are not located on the ground floor so if a victim shouts, no one would hear her

Confab delegate slumps, hospitalised

A member of the National Conference, Mr Abdulmumuni Abubakar, slumped after
the afternoon session and was admitted at a hospital in Abuja on Tuesday.

The Deputy Chairman of the Conference, Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi, confirmed the incident during Wednesday’s plenary.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Abubakar, a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, is a Federal Government
delegate.

Akinyemi, who urged delegates to pray for his quick recovery, said Abubakar was calm and responding to treatment asoft the time he made the information known to
delegates.

He said, “A member of our community, who actually spoke yesterday in the afternoon session, DIG retired A.M Abubakar, slumped and collapsed after our session. He has been admitted in the hospital.

“He has been visited, not only by members of the secretariat but also by some of the delegates, who belong to the community of the retired police officers.

“He is undergoing treatment and I understand that he is stable. So they simply want us to inform the house of this development. Please include him in your prayers.”

Some delegates, however, observed that the clinic was not adequately equipped to take care of delegates.

They complained that the ambulance that conveyed Abubakar to the hospital did not have oxygen and essential medical equipment that should be in an ambulance.
The conference Chairman, Justice Idris Kutigi, acknowledged the observations made by delegates and thanked them for their contribution.

Gunmen kill 18 traders on Borno highway

There seems to be no end in sight to the Boko Haram insurgency as gunmen, believed to be members of the sect, have ambushed and
killed 18 traders returning from a local market in Borno State.

It was gathered that the sect members attacked two buses on the Bama-Gwoza road and shot dead 18 traders, who were returning from a market at Pulka on Tuesday at about 4pm .

Pulka is Nigerian border town with Cameroon and 119 kilometres south of Maiduguri, the state capital.

The marauders, according to an eyewitness, Hamba Tada, ambushed the traders, who were going back to their homes after selling their wares, at Wala village, 10 kilometres to Gwoza.

The eyewitness said the traders were ordered to disembark from the two buses conveying them and subsequently asked to identify themselves by the insurgents.

Tada added, “After chanting God is great in Arabic, the insurgents asked the traders to identify themselves first, before the drivers are allowed to proceed on the barricaded
road. When you identify yourself as a Gwoza resident, the gunmen shoot and kill the person.

“Unfortunately, all the occupants of the two buses are residents of the town, and that was how the traders were shot and killed.

“Non-residents of Gwoza on that road, after the insurgents mounted a road block at Wala, were allowed free passage, without being killed.”

He explained that the selective killings at the village might be as a result of the sect’s belief that the people of Gwoza town might have provided information to military and other security agencies, which led to a clampdown on the sect, leading to the arrest of one of the sect’s commanders last
month.

He claimed that the Bama-Gwoza road was not well patrolled by security agencies.

Tada said, “We sighted about two patrol vehicles last Sunday in the evening towards the Sambisa Forest, but the following day, Monday, no military or police vehicle passes on this road to protect us from the activities of the insurgents. The absence of soldiers on this road enables the gunmen to strike easily and kill.

“After perpetrating their heinous crimes, the gunmen flee into the top of Mandara Mountains and Sambisa Forest; and then return to this road to ambush and kill innocent people.

The insurgents know these terrains better than the military and it is easy for them to perpetrate terrorists activities in the Bama-Gwoza areas.”

photo of the day

Detectives attached to the Obosi Police Division in Anambra State have arrested a man, Tonna Enedo from the Umuezeshime royal family in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area, for allegedly killing his
mother.

Enedo spoke yesterday on why he killed his mother. He blamed the incident on his quest to make money at all cost, adding that he was lured into a fraternity. He said he has slept in the mortuary for seven hours as part of the money-making rituals.

Tonna said: “I was asked by the chief priest of the society that if I wanted to be rich, I should go and have fun with a mad woman. I should also go and sleep with a body for seven hours; I should fast for seven days dry; I was told that I would first kill my father and the last stage is that I will go mad and after I might have completed all the condition, I will become the richest man in Africa, if not in the whole world.” He said he met all other conditions and was planning to kill his father when he mistakenly killed his mother. He said it was
after he hit a metal on her head that he realised he had killed the woman he loved most.

Tonna is a first-born
Wikileaks.

We have already been regaled with reports provided by the Wikileaks which identified the US embassy in Nigeria as a forward operating base for wide and far reaching acts of subversion against Nigeria which
include but not limited to
eavesdropping
on Nigerian government communication, financial espionage on leading Nigerians, support and funding of subversive groups and insurgents, sponsoring of divisive propaganda among the disparate groups
of Nigeria and the use of visa blackmail to induce and coerce high ranking Nigerians into acting in favour of US interests.

But beyond what we know from the Wikileaks report, what many Nigerians do not know is that US embassy’s subversive activities in Nigeria fits into the long term US government’s well camouflaged policy of containment against Nigeria the ultimate goal of which is to eliminate Nigeria as a potential strategic rival to the US in the African continent.

According to wikileaks article on ACRI which potrays the ACRI as a counterweight which was set up by the US to instigate mistrust in Nigerian dominated ECOMOG ; the sense of nigerian led anti-american opposition was first observed in during the bush administration, when nigeria without support from the west or UN led the first
ever african intervention force on peacekeeping mission to Liberia while at the same time engaging serria loene
in forced peace combat, with predominantly nigerian troops( over 90%) being spearheaded by then Military ruler Gen. Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida.

In this regard, the report further recalled Nigeria’s role in helping to liberate the southern African countries in the 70’s and 80’s in clear opposition and defiance to the interests of the United States and its western allies which resulted in setback for Western initiatives in Africa at the time.

Both concluded with a recommendation that the US Government in conjunction with its allies should seek to contain the growing influence of Nigeria in the sub-region by forming a parallel organization to ECOMOG. But in order not to unduly alarm and antagonize Nigeria which the report admitted still had considerable influence in the region, the US government was advised to go about this using quiet diplomacy and
instigating false propaganda.

Years, later the CIA while tactically taking advantage of growing sectarian violence in Nigeria, recruited jobless Islamic extremist through Muslim and other traditional leaders offering training indirectly to the group by use of foreign based terror groups. A detailed analysis is done below:

However, there many dots left to be joined together to find the truth; In December 2011 an Algerian based CIA wing gave out 40 million Naira as a planned Long term partnership with boko haram with PLEDGE
TO DO MORE.

On June 29, 2009 a United States cable leaked by wikileaks showed that the CIA public predicted the onslaught of deadly terrorist attack by boko haram, i.e even 2 months before boko haram started terrorist actions.

Disregarding advices from experts the us armed Saudi Arabia who in turned armed Libyan rebels that in turn armed Malian rebels and Boko Haram, a chain tactically predicted by the CIA. US=>SA=>LIBYA=>BOKO HARAM.

Spy files a wikileak document indicates that SS8 a surveillance company in the us was producing viruses(Trojans) that hijack individual computer and phones (iPhone, blackberry, android etc), take over the device, record its every use, movement,GPS info and even sights and sounds in the room it is in. This software was however bought by the and used as tools by the CIA in its eavesdropping games on Nigerian politicians, thus detecting corrupt practices. As good as that may sound, but whichever politician refused to hijack policies in favour of the US was made to face financial espionage or “corruption charges”.

It is however remarkably outstanding or rather coincidental how Nigerian SSS agents personal information, including address, bank information, mobile numbers, etc were leaked and published on the web when the sss where jointly working with the CIA to gather intelligence boko haram thus compromising the identity/security of the agents as well as that of their family.

it is also important to note the “miraculous
escape of kabiru Sokoto” from a secret top
security facility whose location was known to the CIA.

In the aftermath of the unfortunate bombings and sporadic attacks that took place in Damaturu the Yobe State capital and environs on the last Sallah Day, the
Embassy of the United States in Nigeria hastily put out a public statement declaring that such like bombings should be expected in three well known hospitality establishments in Abuja the nation’s capital.
To discerning observers not only did that score high marks for bad manners as that was hardly what a nation still grieving and coming to terms with its losses expected from a supposedly friendly nation, but that the US embassy was being economical with information on what it actually knew about the incident, and more significantly, the role the US government itself has been
playing in the whole gamut of acts of destabilization against Nigeria.

We have already been regaled with reports provided by the Wikileaks which identified the US embassy in Nigeria as a forward operating base for wide and far reaching acts of subversion against Nigeria which
include but not limited to eavesdropping
on Nigerian government communication, financial espionage on leading Nigerians, support and funding of subversive groups and insurgents, sponsoring of divisive propaganda among the disparate groups of
Nigeria and the use of visa blackmail to induce and coerce high ranking Nigerians into acting in favour of US interests.

Today as Nigerians are reeling from the negative effects of the insurgency that has befallen our dear country and earnestly seeking answers to what all this portends for the future, the GREENWHITE COALITION a citizen’s watchdog can reveal the true nature of this silent, undeclared war of attrition waged against Nigeria by the Government of United States of America.

BACKGROUND TO US SUBVERSIVE ACTS AGAINST NIGERIA AND TIMELINES

From ACRI to AFRICOM

ACRI stands for Africa Crises Response Initiative and it was set up during the Bush Jnr Administration as a counterweight to the Nigeria led ECOWAS Monitoring Group on the Liberian Civil War or ECOMOG as it is more popularly known. ACRI came to being from the secret reports and recommendations separately by the Africa-
America Institute and the Brookings Institute commissioned by the Central Intelligence Agency, the American Government’s Directorate responsible for
organizing foreign subversive activities, on the Liberian civil war and the intervention of ECOMOG.

Both reports zeroed in on the pivotal role Nigeria was playing in the ECOMOG initiative and noted pointedly the phenomenal success recorded by ECOMOG in containing the Liberian crisis without any significant role or intervention from any of the major western powers including the United States. The report concluded that should ECOMOG be allowed to go the whole hog, the major beneficiary will be Nigeria and that might form the basis for a pax Nigeriana in the West African sub-region eclipsing the influence of former colonial powers France and Britain. The reports also
called on the United States Government to note that Liberia being its creation should not be allowed to fall into Nigerian hands with consequences to US strategic interests in the country and the region.

Specifically both reports noted that should Nigeria be allowed to have a foothold in Liberia, it will further embolden Nigeria to challenge the US and the West in carving its own sphere of interest at their expense. In
this regard, the report further recalled Nigeria’s role in helping to liberate the southern African countries in the 70’s and 80’s in clear opposition and defiance to the
interests of the United States and its western allies which resulted in setback for Western initiatives in Africa at the time. Both concluded with a recommendation that the US Government in conjunction
with its allies should seek to contain the growing influence of Nigeria in the sub-region by forming a parallel organization to ECOMOG. But in order not to unduly alarm and antagonize Nigeria which the report
admitted still had considerable influence in the region, the US government was advised to go about this using quiet diplomacy.

During the secret congressional hearing organized to consider the reports by both institutes on Nigeria’s role in the ECOMOG, the inter agency team comprising representatives from the CIA, Pentagon and
State Department formed to push the case, endorsed the recommendation that Nigeria be kept out of the alternate arrangements on Liberia that was being proposed. The strategy was to win away some key
African countries from participation enthusiastically in the ECOMOG initiative.

The sweeteners for this were the
promise and delivery of military and humanitarian aid. This was the line the then US Secretary of State Warren
Christopher pursued when he visited a number of African countries excluding Nigeria to sell the ACRI idea. Thus ensued, the stalemate in ECOMOG operations
with some of the participating countries foot dragging in their commitment to the force and operations. On the diplomatic front, the US along with its allies namely
Britain and France using the engineered stalemate as cover, proceeded to sell the idea that the ECOMOG initiative needed to be reviewed and given a new direction. The US and its allies then argued that the
intervention of outside powers such as the US and its western allies was the tonic needed to move the ECOMOG operation forward. But in order to prevent any
worldwide backlash against this blatant interference in what should be a regional African initiative, the US and its allies sought to present it under the auspices of the United Nations with a select Asian and Latin American countries participating.
By the time the tallies were counted, the US had achieved the one objective of all the diplomatic and strategic maneuvers; the containment of Nigeria led ECOMOG initiative to resolve the Liberian Crises. It was on the platform of this surreptitious American intervention in the Liberian crisis that the US Africa Command or AFRICOM was formed. African Crises

Response Initiative and the new African Security (Dis)order {AJPS} Unlike its precursor, the ACRI which sought to disguise US intentions in Africa particularly as it pertains to Nigeria under the cloak of multilateral humanitarian intervention, AFRICOM which came to being on October 1, 2008 is clearly programmed to serve US military-strategic interests especially with
regards to the ever expanding global reach and influence of China in direct competition with the United States. In
response to the growing influence of a rapidly expanding industrial China in Africa, the goal of AFRICOM is to seize key strategic areas in Africa and bring them under US control in order to block China’s
access to vital energy and mineral resources for its expanding economy. But to effectively carry this out, such African countries of strategic importance must first of all be weakened internally and made to feel so vulnerable that they would have to inevitably seek US protection or intervention. A spur to this interventionist programme provides that any targeted
African country that does not see the wisdom or resists the need to seek US “protection” will then have to suffer
dismemberment with the pliant area carved out of the supposedly hostile area and given US“protection”. We have seen this happen in the great lakes area
where US Special Forces have been deployed ostensibly to protect the countries there from so-called insurgents who in the first place were sponsored by the same US.
In Sudan we have seen how a blanket cover of international humanitarian cries orchestrated by the United States on the so-called Darfur crisis served as a prelude to the dismemberment of Sudan to punish the
government of El-Bashir for daring to conclude oil deals with the Chinese to the detriment of American companies. We have also seen how Libya and Gaddafi was put to the sword for daring to sidetrack American oil interests.

But the greatest prize for AFRICOM and its goal to plant a PAX AMERICANA in Africa would be when it succeeds in the most strategic African country, NIGERIA. This is
where the raging issue of BOKO HARAM and the widely reported prediction by the United States Intelligence Council on the disintegration of Nigeria by 2015 comes
into perspective.

BOKO HARAM: A CIA COVERT OPERATION

From the 1st October 2010 bombing that rocked Abuja till date Nigeria seems to be locked in a vice like grip of a growing and intractable insurgency manifested in
bombings of public places and sporadic attacks on public institutions resulting in the loss of scores of lives and destruction of properties. Predictably there has been a discernible growth in panic and tension in the country and not a few people are beginning to think that perhaps the country seems headed inevitably for a long drawn insurgency leading to a split. With the exception of the 1st October 2010 bombing incident, a shadowy group which goes by the name Boko Haram has laid claim to most of the subsequent bombings that have
occurred in the country.

The seemingly intractable nature of the Boko Haram outrage has prompted a lot of questions from Nigerians.

What really is this Boko Haram thing and what are their grievances if any? Why have they chosen to remain faceless in spite of the devastating effects of their activities on the psyche of the nation, and entreaties
from Nigerian authorities to come forward for negotiations? Why are they able to perpetrate their attacks with relative ease and why has there not been a single clue at the scene of their acts to lead to them?
For sure, Nigerians are not unused to sectarian violence. But the ones we have witnessed in this country have been predictable and the modus and fault lines have been well known to the authorities who have always done well to keep them within tolerable limits.

The Boko Haram of Mohammed Yussuf which predated this new one can be so categorized and was well known through its operations, leadership and locations. But how did a ragtag collection of largely half literate unsophisticated persons operating mostly on Okadabtransform literally overnight to being able to design, manufacture and deploy bombs in buildings and in vehicles costing in excess of a million naira and carry out attacks in several locations around the country???

How have their reach grown from just a corner of Nigeria to virtually everywhere in the country? For them to be able to mount such a sophisticated operation, they must necessarily have a well structured command and control system which in spite of their best efforts at concealment cannot remain undetected for long. So how have they seemingly defied the best efforts of combined security agencies in the country in detecting and foiling their activities?

The GREENWHITE Coalition can reveal that the current Boko Haram campaign is a covert operation organized by the American Central Intelligence Agency, CIA and coordinated by the American Embassy in Nigeria.

For some time now, the CIA has been running secret training and indoctrination camps along the porous and vulnerable borderlands of Niger, Chad and Cameroon. At these camps youths from poor, deprived and disoriented backgrounds are recruited and trained to serve as insurgents. The agents who supply these youth lure them with the promise of better life and work of Allah and further indoctrinated to believe they are working to install a just Islamic order from the ungodly one that currently holds sway in Nigeria.

The American CIA programme officers of this projectprudently remain in the background, living the day to day running of the camps to supervisors of Middle Eastern origin specially recruited for this purpose. After several months of indoctrination and training on weapons handling, survival tactics, surveillance and
evasion techniques, the insurgents are now put on stand by for the next phase of the operation.

The next phase of the operations involves the identification and selection of the targets which had already been mapped out by the American Embassy. If buildings are the targets for attack, the weapons and
technical equipment to be used are kept in safe houses.

The countdown to the attack involves ferrying of the insurgents and quarantine at safe houses for the H hour. After the attack, in the ensuing panic, the insurgents make their escape into safe houses to dispose the
weapons and disappear and dissolve later into the local population. The technical angle of sending out e-mails and messages of responsibility for the attack to the media in the name of Boko Haram is done through
secure telecoms equipment by the American programmers of the operation which can hardly be traced.

If the selected target is to be bombed by an IED, the building is cased for days and the devise inserted when security is lax. The devise is then detonated by an in- built timing mechanism or by a hand held detonator some distance away from where the bomb is placed. If on the hand, the attack is to be carried out by a suicide
bomber, the person to carry it out would have been severely drugged with CIA manufactured LSD to disorientation. In his state of mind he would have no clue as to what he is programmed to do having been
turned into a veritable human robot.

WORKING TO THE 2015 ANSWER-HOW THE US PLANS TO DISMEMBER NIGERIA BY 2015

It is neither a coincidence nor guesswork that the National Intelligence Council of the United States Government estimated that Nigeria will disintegrate by the year 2015. The whole report actually is a coded
statement of intentions on how using destabilization plots the US plans to eventually dismember Nigeria .

The whole goal of the destabilization campaign is to ensure that Nigeria is weakened internally by intractable crises leading up to 2015 when the next general
elections are expected to come up. By that year there will be so much mutual suspicion among Nigerians that the elections itself might not hold or if they did at all will set the stage for a full rapture of the Nigerian state. By its calculation and design, the Nigerian state will be so fractious by then; it will be fully ripe for intervention and break up. It is in actualization of this plan that the US strategic planners on Nigeria have devised a three stage plan of implementation.

Stage 1: Pakistanizing Nigeria

With the scourge of Boko Haram as an existential reality, in the coming months the spate of bombings and attacks on public buildings are likely to escalate. High value
symbolic targets like churches, mosques and large congregations of people of both faiths will be targeted. There will also be escalation in provocative statements and incitements by groups to violence. For good
measure and effect, the bombings and attacks will be staged on days of observance of religious activities. The goal is to exacerbate tension and mutual suspicion
among adherents of the two faiths in Nigeria and leading to sectarian violence. This pattern of destabilization operation is taken out of the Pakistani manual of
destabilization where a sustained spate of CIA sponsored bombings and sectarian violence stretched the ability and resources of the law and order agencies to cope rendering the country weak and vulnerable to foreign intervention.

Stage 2: Internationalizing the Crisis.

Having the set the stage for an intractable sectarian violence pitting Christians against Muslims and between the various disparate groups in the country, there will be calls from the United States, European Union and United Nations for a halt to the violence. A plethora of advocacy groups around the world will struggle for the photo opportunity to mouth concerns about the carnage and humanitarian catastrophe. They will try to make a great show of providing humanitarian aid. For effect,
there will be carpet bombing coverage by the International media on the Nigerian crisis with so-called experts discussing all the ramifications who will strive to create the impression that only benevolent foreign
intervention could resolve the crisis. There will be a deluge of international conferences at various capitals around the world all ostensibly aimed to save Nigerians from themselves. Meanwhile away from
all the public flurry of activities, the US which initiated the crisis in the first place will be secretly drawing up plans to carve out Nigeria for its strategic and economic
benefits.

Stage 3: the Great Carve out under UN Mandate.

Following worldwide outrage at the scale of carnage resulting from all out war among various sections of Nigeria secretly induced by the United States and its allies, the stage will now shift to the United Nations where debates will take place on how the world body will work to resolve the crisis. There will be proposals first for an international peace keeping force to intervene and separate the warring groups and or for a UN mandate for various parts of Nigeria to come under mandated occupying powers. Of course behind the scenes the US and its allies would have secretly worked out which areas of Nigeria to occupy guided as it were by naked economic interests. It is trite really which power or powers eventually occupies Nigeria for whatever reasons. By the time the UN comes to take a decision to hand over Nigeria for occupation under its mandate, no part of Nigeria will emerge or profit truly from the exercise. The rump areas of Nigeria will all come under occupation and puppet
governments will then be set up at the behest of the occupying powers. Nigeria’s fall will be like that of humpty-dumpty, into pieces beyond recognition.

The main beneficiary will of course be the United States which started all this in the first place and which will be there to profit at the end. By engineering the break up
of Nigeria , the United States would have eliminated a potential continental rival paving the way to the institution of a Pax Americana in Africa and secondly it would have limited its main global strategic rival China from direct access to badly needed energy and other mineral resources on the resource rich African continent.

QUESTIONS WE NEED TO ASK OURSELVES AS NIGERIANS

Against this background Nigerians need to stop and ask critical questions; what real purpose does it serve to deliberately leak a supposedly classified report from a US Intelligence organ normally restricted to only a handful of US policy makers only, to the media and for good measure ensure its wide circulation in the country against whom the action is targeted? Does that not
indicate a statement of intent by the country that originated the report to serve as psychological intimidation for the purpose of softening up the targeted
country making it ripe for intervention?
In any routine investigation of an act, investigators usually call in the statements of material witnesses before or after the act whether deliberately uttered or inadvertently; does the statement by the United States National Intelligence Council on the break up of Nigeria in 2015 not amount to culpability in this regard especially in view of the escalation in the
seemingly intractable acts of subversive violence taking place in Nigeria after that statement was released and also in view of US antecedents in matters such as this
around the world?

Why is it that a country which has always been known for its resilience and ability to resolve its problems without outside interference? Is this not indicative of the
very Nigerian saying that the witch cried in the night and the child died in the morning?

Why is someone somewhere hell bent on
engineering Nigerians to form the unNigerian habit of harbouring and perpetrating desperate, extreme and
unforgiving actions against themselves?

Should we all 160million of us stand idly by and allow the United States achieve its selfish and diabolical aim of sowing discord in our country leaving us with widows, orphans and humanitarian problems as it has done in other places?

Are we going to allow the labour of our
heroes past which bequeathed us a nation second to none and reputed to be the backbone of Africa to die in vain?

From Vietnam to Iraq to Afghanistan and Latin America, America’s track record around the world has been nothing but ugly. In the words of its own statesmen,
America has no permanent friends but permanents interests which translate into a healthy and utter disregard to the sensitivities and interests of other countries. That has pretty much formed the basis of US interaction around the world. The same situation will play itself out if we allow them in to our country.

Nigerians let us stop and think before we allow the big bad wolf in, for we will have nobody but ourselves to blame when our chickens start to get missing.

FOCUS ON TERENCE P. McCULLEY, AMBASSADOR OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IN NIGERIA.

A few Posers;
He is one of America’s top Foreign Service officers and in the parlance of the State Department, an “old Africa hand”. Do you know that Terence P. McCulley, the current United States Ambassador to Nigeria was one of the architects of the Africa Crisis Response Initiative, ACRI which sought to undermine Nigeria ’s involvement in ECOMOG?

Do you also know that he was also among the prominent resource persons that worked on establishing AFRICOM?

Do you also know that Ambassador McCulley’s alternate designation is State Department Coordinator of the AFRICOM from which position he is to diplomatically
sell and smoothen the way for the entry of AFRICOM into Nigeria ?

Do you know too that his main brief as Ambassador to Nigeria is to coordinate activities of the United States Government using the convenient cover of the Embassy
of the United States inNigeria ?

Do you also know that the full classified report by the United States National Intelligence Council on the possible break up of Nigeria which parts were only
selectively released contains details of how
the US plans to carry out this desired end?

The full details of the bombing of the UN Building in Abuja; who did it and how it was done.

You might also need to know real mission of the so-called foreign security experts who came to “investigate” the bombing. Did they really come to investigate the incident and provide the details of their actual findings to Nigerian authorities or their real brief was mop up any stray evidence from the bombing site in order to obscure the involvement of those who sponsored the act?

A 19‑year‑old Pakistani, Iftikihar Muhammed Arslan, has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, for
attempting to smuggle 25 parcels of heroin into the country.

The suspect, who claimed to be a student of Punjab College in Pakistan, was apprehended at the Murtala Muhammed
International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, by the operatives when the illicit drug was discovered in his luggage during inward
screening of passengers on board a Qatar airline flight.

It was gathered that seized drugs weighing 25.400kg, have an estimated street value of N228 million.

Preliminary investigation has shown that the suspect left Lahore, Pakistan with the drugs to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, then Doha, in Qatar, from where he connected to Lagos. He is believed to be working for a Pakistani drug cartel.

Spokesman of the agency, Mr Mitchell Ofoyeju, who described the incident as the single largest seizure of heroin at the Lagos airport since January, said the NDLEA
commander at the Lagos Airport, Mr. Hamza Umar, found the 25 parcels of brownish substance that tested positive
for heroin hidden in a smaller bag inside the suspect’s luggage.

Ofoyeju said the suspect was cooperating with the agency’s team of investigators.

Meantime, Arslan, who speaks English fluently, confessed how he got the drugs.
According to him, “I am a student of Punjab College and I am in Nigeria as a tourist because my friend told me that Victoria Island and Ikoyi are beautiful tourist centres.

Unfortunately, when I arrived at the Lagos airport, the heroin was found in my luggage. This is my first time of coming to
Nigeria and I had intended to spend a week or two.”

In his reaction, Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade, who expressed delight over the arrest, said Nigeria was winning the fight against narcotics.

He said: “This arrest and seizure will further send a warning to drug trafficking cartels that Nigeria is winning the fight against narcotics. NDLEA is prepared to halt the criminal activities of drug barons through a coordinated drug detection strategies. We are working very hard to also identify other members of the criminal group.”
LONDON—As the former Delta State Governor, Chief James Ibori’s London confiscation case resumes today, the court
will attempt to break the logjam that bogged it down all through last week; to try Ibori afresh or not.

What really bogged down the proceedings was that Judge Anthony Pitts repeatedly said in the course of the submission of James Ibori’s defence team at Southwark
Crown Court, London that he was confused. He said that he was becoming even much more confused ‘now’ as the case being argued by Ibori’s lead counsel, Mr Ivan Krolic continued to unfold.

Judge Pitts expressing his frustration, addressed Ibori’s lead counsel: “There was confusion though not in your mind, but there is a deep confusion in my own mind”.
Responding to the Judge’s confession, Mr Krolic said “if the court is confused, has the court listened to the arguments at all? “We have proved our position to the court from the outset. Mr Ibori has made his case clear. We also have made our case clear as the counsel. If you had allowed me to finish my submission, you would not have been confused”.

Quoting extensively from the transcript of the proceedings from the time the case started, and certain decisions made by the Judge, Mr Krolic said: “Both sides have conducted this confiscation trial, both sides have closed their case, the defence has cross-examined witnesses. To now suddenly
say to one party, I want you to investigate and change your case so that you could win, in my opinion, no court would give such an order”.

He continued: “The court is the sole decider of the law and the court has to be impartial, each side has experienced counsel and solicitors; there is no need for the court to be involved”. Making it clear to the judge that he had in the course of the proceedings last year, blocked the attempt by the crown prosecution to insert Assumption 72AA to all the items (thus tasking Ibori with proving his innocence instead of the prosecution proving him guilty), Krolic said, “your honour while applying your discretion on the application for assumption 72AA to be introduced into all the items said it would amount to not only changing the goal post but moving the goal post from the field of play”.

Reacting to Krolic, Judge Pitts asked: “Are you saying if in the course of a case and as the case unfolds, I noticed that I have made some decisions, are you saying I cannot revisit it’?

Krolic: “Your honour has no power to do so”. The judge not satisfied asked Krolic again ‘are you saying a judge can’t revisit a discretion applied having realised some confusion as the case develops?” Krolic replied again ‘…the court can’t say I am confused, telling one party, I am going to let
you start again. Once a decision is made by the court, you can’t undo it, you can’t retrace the past. And if the court is confused, that is what the advocates are there for”.

Insisting on his legal arguments that the Judge can’t suddenly grant the prosecution’s request to let the case
start afresh, Krolic said: “You have rejected their application in October, your honour was not confused because you gave clear reasons”.

Judge: “But the case could be reopened.”
Krolic said that if the case is reopened, it will be a different case entirely and the judge asked ‘why is it a different case?”
Krolic replied: “The real problem is that the defence would now have to satisfy the burden of proof taking it
away from the prosecution”.

Supreme Court nullifies Igbo customary law, rules practice as barbaric

Nigeria’s Supreme Court has nullified a practice, part of the customs of the Awka people in Anambra State, which disinherits
a woman without a male child at the death of her husband.

In a judgment on Friday to an appeal involving a widow, Mrs Maria Nweke, the court ruled that, “For a widow of a man to be thrown out of her matrimonial home, where she had lived all her life with her late husband and children, by her late husband’s brothers on the ground that she had no male child, is indeed very barbaric, worrying and flesh Skinning.”

The appeal was filed by Onyibor Anekwe and Chinweze, descendants of Anieke Nwogbo, the half brother of Nweke Nwogbo, Mrs Nweke’s late husband. Mrs Nweke had in 1991 sued the appellants before the Awka division of the Anambra State High Court, when the appellants made move to evict her from a parcel of land
she got from her late husband. She said the land was given to her husband.

She told the trial court that the appellants (who were defendants) asked her to vacate the house on the ground that she had no male child in the house, even when she
had six female children.

Mrs Nweke claimed that she was disinherited by her late husband’s family because she had no male child for her
husband. She refused to vacate the land, insisting that a woman, according to the customs of Akwa people, can inherit the property of her husband whether she had a male child or not.

She said the Ozo Awka Society arbitrated in the dispute and agreed with her that she had a right to remain on the land.

Defendants disagreed and argued that by the Native Law and Custom of Awka people, the land was inherited by their father as the first and only surviving son.

The trial court and the Court of Appeal decided the case in favour of Mrs Nweke. The defendants appealed to the
Supreme Court, an appeal the court dismissed last Friday.

Justice Clara Ogunbiyi who read the lead judgment, held that the appellants failed to provide any credible evidence to enable the apex court overturn the judgments of the two lower courts.

“I hasten to add that the custom and practices of Awka people upon which the appellants have relied is hereby out rightly condemned in very strong terms. A custom of this in the 21st century societal setting will only tend to depict the absence of the relatives of human civilization.

“It is punitive, uncivilized and only intended to protect the selfish perpetuation of male dominance which is aimed at
suppressing the right of the women folk in the given society.

One would expect that the days of such obvious differential discrimination are over.

“Any culture that dis-inherits a daughter from her father’s estate or wife from her husband’s property by reason of God instituted gender differential should be punitively dealt with. The punishment should serve as a deterrent measure and
ought to be meted out against the perpetrators of the culture and custom.

“For a widow of a man to be thrown out of her matrimonial home, where she had lived all her life with her late husband and children, by her late husband’s brothers on
the ground that she had no male child, is indeed very barbaric, worrying and flesh skinning.”

Justice Bata-Ogunbiyi frowned at the conduct of the lawyer who represented the appellants for coming to court to argue that such an obnoxious customs be upheld. She
awarded N200,000 against the appellants.
Justices Tanko Muhammad, Muhammad Muntaka-Coomasie, Sylvester Ngwuta and Olukayode Ariwoola, who were part of the panel that heard the case, agreed with the lead judgment.

Bomb scare at National Assembly

BARELY 24 hours after the Nyanya bomb blast, there was pandemonium Tuesday at the National Assembly as
staff abandoned their duty posts as early as 1.30pm to avoid being killed by a bomb allegedly planted in
the complex.

Some workers that spoke to Vanguard claimed that there was an order that they should vacate the complex for security reasons.

The commercial banks operating within the complex closed shop at about 1.pm claiming that there was an order that they should vacate the complex.

Attempts to get clarifications from the civil servants proved abortive as most of them declared that they were on their way home.
The bomb scare story started making the round at about 11am that there was a bomb planted in the complex and an order from an unidentified source said that all commercial food vendors should vacate the complex immediately.

By 2:30pm all staff of NASS had left the complex. But a senior security aide to the Clerk of the House of Representatives, who spoke under the condition of anonymity told the Vanguard that “there was no instruction to that effect that they should vacate the complex”.

“It is all rumour and you know our staff here how they behave, they just want to go home, it is unfortunate”
