Top 10 Controversial Nollywood Actresses (SEE PHOTOS)

2013-05-06T04:26:00.001-07:00

There is hardly a Nollywood actress who has not tasted the sting of a scandal at one time or another in her career. While it appears some of them go courting controversies, others have had controversies tossed their way either by some overzealous press guys who dig up stuffs about them and mixed it with a little bit of dirt or by some circumstantial happenings that caught them right in the middle.

While some of these actresses have ignored many scandals trailing their career, others have simply laughed them off. Like, in every movie industry, there are practitioners who crave for attention and thus ,go the extra mile to expose certain aspects of their lives to make the headlines.

Here are the top ten actresses who have been severally scandalised. Interestingly, these scandals, true or false, have never dented their careers, instead, they have come out of them stronger, bigger and more popular:

Tonto Dikeh

Tonto is arguably the most scandalised actress in Nollywood. Every time her name comes up in the papers it seems to be about one controversy or the other. Some have said she found her way to stardom riding on the wings of controversies and it seems much of it is true as Tonto seems to take up roles most of her colleagues wouldn’t dare. The daring actress has played all kinds of roles, most of which bothered on near nudity and soft porn.

She astounded the movie world not too long ago when she revealed that it was Jimmy Jatt who deflowered her. Such is the boldness of the Rivers State born actress. There have also been rumours of her sexual involvements with several artistes including Tuface, KC Presh, Wizkid and even Iyanya.

When she veered into music, like some of her peers have done, it was controversy galore again as many critics took her to the cleaners, hinting the actress has nothing of a singer in her. And just recently she posted a near naked picture of herself on Twitter with large tattoos on her back.

Nuella Njubigbo

Ella’ as she is fondly called by her many fans have been linked to series of romance tales within and outside the industry. The first tale that went viral was the romantic involvement with Yul Edochie and it appeared there was an element of truth in that. At least, the dashing actor once owned up to the relationship and asserted it happened long before he met his wife.

Though Nuella has come out to deny all these series of romances, however the echoes still linger. The one about her and the director, Tchidi Chikere was particularly poignant to her as her PR person had to come out and release a statement on the matter.

She has also been alleged to be in a relationship with a state governor from the South-South region, which reportedly earned her a SUV. Others who have been linked with her in the past include footballer Emmanuel Emenike and a few others.

Cossy Orjiakor

Cossy has said she is one of the most misjudged persons in the entertainment industry but that does not excuse her image of ‘high octane sensuality’. Her boobs have become the label through which people identify her and she doesn’t help matters as she flaunts these at every occasion.

The most popular scandal about her is that of her sleeping with a dog for a fee but Cossy has denied this at every turn. If she is truly misjudged it cannot be about her excesses in exposing her sexy body.

Recently she tweeted near-naked pictures of herself just to show off her new panties and also posted in the social media a picture of herself in ‘orgasmic bliss’, possibly giving her fans the picture of herself at the height of a sexual act. But with all her excesses, Cossy is down-to earth and focused.

Lola Alao

Lola was recently thrown into a controversy involving her good friend, Bisi Ibidapo-Obe and a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dino Melaye. It was a messy affair and Lola, who said she was wrongly accused and implicated in the matter, was at the centre of it all.

Before the Lola-Bisi-Dino saga, there was the issue of her husband, who labelled her on the pages of newspaper as “diabolical” but Lola said in a recent interview that she doesn’t bear grudges against anyone. In spite of her former husband’s campaign in the media to drag her name in the mud Lola has never once spoken ill of the man and even saying “I liked the guy. He was a nice guy. It just didn’t work out”.

Funke Akindele

Funke was really an actress with many sex scandals. It was rumoured that she had escapades with some notable men before her marriage to Oshodi big boy, Alhaji Kehinde Almaroof Oloyede.

Even her marriage which held the movie world spellbound was enmeshed in controversy. She has been implicated in secret relationship with many of her colleagues.

Bisi Ibidapo Obe

Bisi Ibidapo-Obe is not new to controversies in fact this beautiful actress has always had one controversy or the other trailing her. Her alleged relationships with Timaya, K1 and several others made headlines not too long ago. And recently her controversial personality took a dive after she announced that Dino Melaye was responsible for her pregnancy.

The tabloid again was filled with tales of Bisi and Melaye’s alleged romance-which the ex-honour bale member denied. Seven months after she claimed she met the father of her child, she was delivered of a baby girl and she was once again in the news when she named the child after Dino Melaye.

Genevieve Nnaji

Despite her super star status in the industry, Genevieve has had her own fair share of controversies to add to her growing profile. Before she became as big as she is today she was reportedly involved in romanctic affairs with several actors, such as Pat Attah, Kunle Coker and others. And when the tale of a man who claimed to be the father of her only child waged a media blitz on her, Genevieve’s popularity soared.

She was even said to have dated an ex Vice President. On top of all that there is a lingering rumour of her secret affair with D’Banj, which many have said could lead somewhere.

Foluke Daramola

Before her blissful marriage to her heart-throb,Kayode Salako of Change Agent of Nigeria Network, Foluke was fingered in the break-up of Kayode Salako and his estranged wife, Pastor (Mrs.) Bukola Salako.

Before then there was also a controversy that Foluke was evicted from her home by her landlord for inability to pay her rent. But most of thescandals about her have been put to rest as the actress has been vindicated.

Tayo Odueke (Sikiratu Sindodo)

Popularly known as Sikiratu Sindodo, a name she got from the movie that launched her into stardom, her romance with National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Oshodi, Lagos, Musiliu Akinsanya also known as MC Oluomo which ended prematurely rocked themovie world. The said MC Oluomo bought a Murano car and a duplex in Maryland for her.

She was also rumoured to have dated actor and producer, Kunle Afod. Just few months ago, the gist went round town that she was having an affair with younger brother of Kunle Afolayan, Aremu which she has profusely denied. She is presently rumoured to be in a sizzling romance with top Fuji artiste, Malaika.

Faithia Balogun

This estranged ex-wife of top Nollywood actor, Saidi Balogun, Faithia is surely not free of some scandals in Nollywood. She was once rumoured to have fought her colleague in the Yoruba movie industry over a young Ibadan politician, Rotimi Ajanaku whom she accused of snatching from her.

She was once reported to be in sizzling romance with the Director of Corporate Pictures. It was also reported that this almost destroyed the marriage of the top marketer.

British-Nigerian Femi Oke to host Al Jazeera's The Stream

2013-05-06T03:37:00.003-07:00

International broadcaster Femi Oke has been revealed as the new host of Al Jazeera English’s hit social media show The Stream.

The former BBC, Sky and CNN journalist will take over presenting duties from Monday 6^th May. Femi has been based in the US since 1999 and spent nine years anchoring and reporting for CNN in Atlanta. She was host for the programme Inside Africa, which she also helped launch. For the last five years she has been a senior editor and host at the largest NPR affiliate in the US, WNYC.

The Stream is billed as a social media community with its own television show. It’s received critical acclaim since its launch in 2011, winning the Royal Television Society’s award for Innovation, a Webby People’s Choice Award for News and Politics, and a Gracie for Outstanding News Talkshow. It also received an Emmy nomination last year for New Approach to News and Documentary Programming.

Femi commented on her new role: “I’ve been watching The Stream since it first came on air, because it was so different from anything else on international television. I loved how it responded to the explosion of social media, used Skype and Google Hangouts not just as back-ups like a lot of programmes do, but as a genuine way to connect with viewers. I must admit watching from my laptop in New York I was amazed and a little jealous. Here was a show that ‘got’ social media, had a young engaged audience, covered the news, and a broad range of topics in way that made current affairs fresh and exciting.”

Paul Eedle, Director of Programmes at Al Jazeera English, said: “The Stream continues to be a great success for us, and is pulling in ever greater audiences online and on air. Femi’s style is warm and inclusive so she’s perfect for the interactivity of the show.”

Femi describes herself as British-Nigerian, born in London to Nigerian parents. In 2007 Femi Oke's work in Africa was recognized by The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Communications Agency with the presentation of the African Achievers Award 2007. Femi was also named Nigerian media personality of the year in 2007 and picked up the Interaction media award in 2008 for her commitment to broadcasting the complex issues of Africa.

Lovely people of Africa, there are many things I wish I could do to revert this unfortunate incident but as we all know, one cannot go back in time.

This is my sincere apology and I hope it is accepted.

How An Under Graduate Girl Died, After Being Deceived By A Boyfriend To Sleep With A Dog

2012-05-31T05:40:00.001-07:00

Uche (her surname withheld) was an Accountancy part time student of a Federal University, before her death recently. She was one of the happening babes in town, although she likes doing her things in her own little way.

In fact, a lot of her course mates doesn't know her because she was quiet and she doesn't talk to anyone in her class. She's from Imo State; her father is late while her mother stays in the village.

We gathered that, she is from a poor back ground, but she struggled to make ends meet and to also send her younger ones to school, through the money she got from her many men friends.

Uche stayed with her friend in a duplex around Wuse 2, and she drove a Honda car, before she met a guy who changed her life completely. Please click read more to continue reading.... sad much...

One of Uche's friends revealed to us how she confessed to her before she breathed her last about 2 months ago.

Uche,we learnt met the America based guy in one restaurant in Abuja.

Roland spoilt her silly with money and gift; he even bought for her, an exotic car and promised to marry her. She was very happy that she has finally met the man of her dream, especially considering the fact that the guy also hails from the same place with her.

Few weeks after Uche met Roland, she started spending almost every day with him.

Roland spent 6 weeks in Nigeria before going back to the United States; he even gave Uche an engagement ring that she flaunts before her friends.

Uche kept most of the things she shared with Roland to herself until she fell ill and went to about 3 hospitals, where she was told there was nothing wrong with her.

One of her friends who stayed with her, later took her to a white garment church in Kubwa,a suburb of Abuja.

The Prophet, we gathered saw vision about her predicament and advised Uche to confess what has happened to her or else she will die, initially she didn't want to talk but after much persuasion from her friends, she did.

She said, Roland likes adventure, so he suggested they should do some nasty things. She said Roland had a dog he cherishes, and he suggested she sleeps with the dog while he watches her, she said she didn't want to do it, but later she had sex with the dog, her friend further revealed that,Uche was angry after the sex with dog show, but Roland begged her and gave her a car key(Infinity Jeep), assuring her nothing will happen to her.

Roland left the country the following day, and promised to start processing her papers to come to the United States once he gets back to U.S.

Uche's friend and the prophet called the guy but the number didn't exist.

They also asked her for the address of Roland's house in Abuja but they didn't get the address she described.

The Prophet advised she should be taking back home while she beg God to save her, because she has been used for rituals.

Uche died few days later.

THE KARDASHIANS: KRIS JENNER STILL FOUND GUILTY BY HER CHILDREN

2012-05-31T04:49:00.001-07:00

As they say anything can happen on the Kardashian reality TV show and something is really happening as the children (especially Kourtney) still make their mother's life unbearable as they recall her affair outside her connubial home.

On their recent episode, Kourtney Kardashian had it hot with her mother, Kris Jenny, by recalling the incident of her cheating on their late father-Robert.

Kourtney told the mother: it’s not like that’s stopped you before’, in reference to Kris’s confession in her new book, in which she revealed that she cheated on Kourtney’s father. The mother referred to her as being rude.

Khloe who was in Texas with Lamar Odom advised Kourtney to learn how to forgive and forget about the matter. The advice from Khloe was of little effect as Kourtney was at it again when she hosted the family in her house with her boyfriend and father of her two-year-old boy, Scott Disick.

The disagreement between Kourtney and her mother Kris was ignited when her mother was flirting with the chef in front of Bruce Jenner.

She said: ‘You’re so inappropriate and embarrassing. You have no shame in your game.’

‘You’re so f***ing uptight,’ Jenner responded, before asking her to step outside.

After some serious words, the conversation didn’t seem to be helping ease any tensions.

‘I don’t understand how you can do that to you family,’ Kourtney admitted as they stood away from the rest of the guests in the garden.

Kris Jenner busted into tears and asked her daughter: 'Are you going to punish me for the rest of my life because of something I did 25 years ago?

This particular episode, it was the first time Kris appeared crack as she admitted that if she didn’t have the courage to go astray with the affair, her youngest children Kylie and Kendall, and her husband (Bruce) would not be with her today.

BBA: What do you guys think about Goldie's meltdown yesterday?

2012-05-31T04:30:00.001-07:00

Goldie broke down in tears yesterday in the BBA House after another housemate, Prezzo, told her they were 'just good friends'.

Goldie sat on his bed with tears streaming down her face repeating over and over again "just good friends, just good friends," while shaking her head. She later went to her own bed and continued to cry. She screamed, vomited and almost choked on her own puke. At a point she was gasping for air and struggling to breathe.

She was devastated that someone called her 'just good friends'? I don't get it...for those who watched it, did you?

'Jonathan’s UNILAG Name Change a Gift Horse' - Prof Wole Soyinka

2012-05-31T04:02:00.003-07:00

His statement below...

This is one gift horse which, contrary to traditional saying, must be inspected thoroughly in the mouth.

Primary from all of us must be a plea to the MKO Abiola family not to misconstrue the protests against the naming of the University of Lagos after their heroic patriarch.

Issues must be separated and understood in their appropriate contexts. The family will acknowledge that, among the loudest opposing voices to Jonathan’s gift horse, are those who have clamoured tirelessly that MKO Abiola, the Nigerian nation’s president-elect, be honoured nationally, and in a befitting manner.

Next is my confession to considerable shock that President Goodluck Jonathan did not even think it fit to consult or inform the administrators of the university, including Council and Senate, of his intention to re-name their university for any reason, however laudable. This arbitrariness, this act of disrespect, was a barely tolerated aberration of military governance. It is totally deplorable in what is supposed to be a civilian order.
After that comes the bad-mouthing of MKO Abiola and the Nigerian electorate by President Jonathan who referred to MKO as the “presumed winner” of a historic election. While applauding the president for finally taking the bull by the horn and rendering honour unto whom honour is due, the particularities of this gesture have made it dubious, suspect, and tainted.

You do not honour someone while detracting from his or her record of achievement. MKO Abiola was not a presumed winner, but the President-elect of a nation, and thus universally acknowledged.
It is sad, very sad, that after his predecessor who, for eight full years of presidency, could not even bear to utter the name of a man who made his own incumbency possible, along comes someone who takes back with the left hand what the right has offered.
However, there is hope. Legalists have claimed that there is a legal flaw to the entire process. The university, solidly backed by other tertiary institutions nation-wide, should immediately proceed to the courts of law and demand a ‘stay of execution’. That should give President Jonathan time to re-consider and perhaps shift his focus to the nation’s capital for institutions begging for rituals of re-naming.

After all, it is on record that the House of Assembly did once resolve that the Abuja stadium be named after the man already bestowed the unique title of “Pillar of African Sports”.

He deserved that, and a lot more. What he did not deserve is to be, albeit posthumously, the centre of a fully avoidable acrimony, one that has now resulted in the shutting down one of the institutions of learning to whose cause, the cause of learning, President-elect MKO Abiola also made unparalleled private contributions.
Let me end by stressing that my position remains the same as it was when the University of Ife was re-named Obafemi Awolowo University.

Charlyboy's Official statement on Gay and Illuminati Story

2012-05-30T19:06:00.000-07:00

Charly boy

CHARLY BOY PRESS RELEASE!!

THE VICIOUS GAY AND ILLUMINATI STORY IS A CALCULATED ATTEMPT TO RUIN ME AND MY BRAND!

1. 1.It is with a heavy heart that I issue this press release regarding the vile rumors published by National Mirror and Daily Independent, and which has now gone viral in over 100,000 websites and blogs in the last one week, to the effect I had confessed to being gay, and to being the head of the dreaded illuminati fraternity in Nigeria. In all my years as a Public Commentator, Human Rights Activist and Entertainer, I have never had to deal with such an insidious report that appears to be directly calculated to portray me in the worst possible light at a time such as this. The two leading newspapers did not just claim to be reporting an opinion; they actually reported these wicked lies as FACTS!

2. 2. For the avoidance of any doubt, I want to assure Nigerians that I am NOT gay and I am NOT part of any organization called the ‘illuminati’ in any way shape or form. I also categorically state that any reports of my alleged ‘confession’ to any newspaper is a figment of the imagination of my detractors, and a very insidious attempt to destroy my hard-earned reputation, and that of my Charly Boy brand, all in the mad rush of some newspapers, specifically the National Mirror and the Daily Independent, to increase their circulation through spurious and attention grabbing stories.

3. 3. Ordinarily, I would not be alarmed if this attack is coming from faceless people or inconsequential such as the Danfo Express, the newspaper that the Daily Mirror and Daily Independent claimed to have first reported the story. I would probably also not have been so upset if these newspapers were simply voicing their fair opinions of my personal life or business life. That would be all par for the course for my brand and persona, which has been admittedly controversial over the years, due to my relentless pursuit of justice for the people, fight for the rights of musicians and my tireless energy in extending the boundaries of creative entertainment in my legitimate bid to maximize my creative talents. It is however a different thing entirely when otherwise reputable organizations such as the DAILY MIRROR AND THE DAILY INDEPENDENT took it upon themselves to champion A NON-EXISTENT ALLEGED CONFESSION as FACT! These Newspapers have deliberately reported as FACT that I ‘confessed to being a gay and head of illuminati in Nigeria’. These newspapers inexplicably did this without the elementary courtesy of checking this explosive story with me before going to town with their attention grabbing headlines. Yet, the management of these newspapers knew, or ought to have known, that an explosive story of a ‘confession to being gay or head of illuminati’ will certainly lead to incalculable damage, even to a controversial brand such as mine.

4. 4. I am further grieved that having given an opportunity to the two mainstream daily papers that broke this story, DAILY MIRROR AND NATIONAL INDEPENDENT, to publicly retract this story and apologize for their error, through personal texts, emails, and even letters form my attorneys, these newspapers have continued to ignore my plight and distress with their false reporting. Rather than showing genuine remorse in order to convince me that the error was unintentional, THEY HAVE FAILED, REFUSED AND NEGLECTED TO RETRACT THE STORY OR APOLOGISE FOR SAME. Even as of the release of this Press Release, these damaging stories are still very much visible on the online pages of these newspapers. This has further confirmed my suspicions that these newspapers only cared about increasing their circulation rather than reporting the truth, or protecting the reputation of a public figure such as mine.

5. 5. Ever since these stories broke, with the DAILY MIRROR AND NATIONAL INDEPENDENT leading the way among the daily newspapers, I have been inundated with angry calls by my friends, admirers, business associates and family members who have expressed their disgust, disappointment and shock at the ‘confessions’ they have been reading about in different forums. My businesses have irreparably suffered and my family seriously mortified in the public eye. The general public, who believed these false stories, because it was coming from seemingly reputable organizations, such as National Mirror and National Independent, have also vilified me in hundreds of thousands of posts and comments on different blogs, websites and social networking forums. I have essentially become an object of ridicule worldwide as a result of these wicked lies being reported as FACT. In fact, one of my daughters recently wrote me a heart-breaking letter on how this development has affected her emotionally to the point where she was even ashamed and scared of going out in public!

6. 6.In order to protect my name and my brand from ignominious extinction by the recalcitrant newspapers that started these false lies, DAILY MIRROR AND DAILY INDEPENEDENT, I have therefore given very firm instructions to my attorneys to do everything legally possible to hold the people responsible for this accountable to the fullest extent of the law. Since they have refused to apologize and retract their vicious lies, they will be made to face the full wrath of the law. I have made a career of fighting for the rights of others and I will certainly not be shy in fighting for my own rights in a situation such as this.

7. In conclusion, I sincerely ask for ALL responsible members of the Press to respect my fundamental human right to dignity, by not continuing to perpetuate this falsehood and malicious rumors. I also want to implore those who have innocently repeated these damaging lies on their blogs, websites and social forums to make efforts to remove the same from their publications even as I continue to hold the chief perpetrators, DAILY MIRROR AND NATIONAL INDEPENDENT, primarily accountable for starting this public lynching of my name and reputation.

FG will not reverse decision on UNILAG’s name – Minister of Information

2012-05-30T12:52:00.000-07:00

GEJ

The Federal government has announced that it will not revert its decision of renaming the University of Lagos after the late winner of the 1993 presidential elections and business mogul, MKO Abiola.

Speaking to state house correspondents after Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, the Minister of Information, Labaran Maku said that what the president did was an answer to the outcry of concerned Nigerians who witnessed the events of June 12 and the subsequent demise of the man that was the acclaimed winner of the election.

The Minister called on Nigerians not to allow the protest by some students to overshadow the significance of the president’s decision to immortalize Abiola.

Students of the University of Lagos have taking to the streets for two days consecutively after the pronouncement to protest the name change of the 50 year old institution.

The rapper finally admits to being a father…

Nigerian rapper Panshak Zamani popularly known as Ice Prince has finally admitted to being a father – two months after we broke the story back in march 2012

The Chocolate City rapper disclosed this while speaking Vanessa Offiong of Nigerian newspaper Weekly Trust’s Weekend Magazine in an interview published over the weekend.

When asked what the experience was like about being a ‘new dad’ and how it was fitting that into his schedule, he responded: ‘Yes I am. I have a strong team around me and we are able to schedule our events properly. This gives me time to take care of all the things that I need to take care of’.

On March 1, 2012, 20-year-old former Houdegbe North American University undergraduate Bimbo Babatunde delivered a baby boy (since named Toluwalase) for Ice Prince.

The rapper had before now, repeatedly denied he’s the father of Bimbo’s child. The baby was born in March 1, 2012.

Ice Prince was recently nominated for the 2012 BET Award in the ‘Best International Act: Africa’ category, alongside compatriot Wizkid.

Again, this is a silly rumor, but lets take it there. Beyonce may be with child again, according to Hello Beautiful.

Now, forget the fact that her career is the king of her life, but she seemingly managed to squeeze out Blue Ivy in between albums. The internets are saying this isn’t even a rumor, but its a FACT that B is about to give Blue Ivy a brother or sister.

The rumors are saying that B and Jay are looking to drop the new bambino next year and that she is presently 2 months in.

I, like others, wonder if B is really going to take more time off to have a baby. Certainly, if she is preg, we are happy for her. Wonder if she breast feeds? Awkward weird thought.
