Lofou Palouze Festival: 22nd of September

Το Κοινοτικό Συμβούλιο Λόφου και ο Σύνδεσμος Αποδήμων Λόφου διοργανώνουν την Κυριακή 22 Σεπτεμβρίου 2013 στις 3 μ.μ. στην αυλή του δημοτικού σχολείου Λόφου το καθιερωμένο φεστιβάλ του παλουζέ. Σκοποί του φεστιβάλ είναι αφενός μεν η προβολή της κυπριακής αγροτικής παράδοσης της υπαίθρου και αφετέρου η αναζωογόνηση και στήριξη της κοινότητας μας.

Το φετινό φεστιβάλ είναι ιδιαίτερα αναβαθμισμένο και αναμένεται να προσελκύσει πλήθος κόσμου. Συγκεκριμένα, η δημοτική χορωδία Ύψωνα θα εγκαινιάσει πρώτη το καλλιτεχνικό μέρος του φεστιβάλ με τραγούδια της κυπριακής παράδοσης. Στη συνέχεια, τη σκυτάλη θα πάρει το μουσικοχορευτικό σχήμα Αράδιππος – Καροτσέρης με τη συμμετοχή της Άντρης Καραντώνη, οι οποίοι θα προβάλλουν μουσικά και χορευτικά την κυπριακή παράδοση. Με το τέλος του καλλιτεχνικού προγράμματος θα διεξαχθεί διαγωνισμός τόμπολας με πλούσια δώρα.

Σημειώνεται βέβαια ότι θα προσφέρεται δωρεάν παλουζές στους επισκέπτες του φεστιβάλ. Όσοι επιθυμούν θα μπορούν ακόμη να αγοράσουν παλουζέ για να τον μεταφέρουν στα σπίτια τους. Στο χώρο της εκδήλωσης θα υπάρχουν επίσης λαϊκοί τεχνίτες όπως αγγειοπλάστες, καλαθοπλέκτες, ξυλογλύπτες κ.α., οι οποίοι θα εκθέτουν επί τόπου τα παραδοσιακά αυτά επαγγέλματα. Επιπλέον, η παιδική γωνιά αναμένεται να προσελκύσει τους μικρούς μας φίλους και να ξεκουράσει τους ενήλικες γονείς τους. Ιδιαίτερη χαρά θα δώσει στα παιδιά και η βόλτα με τα γαϊδουράκια.

"Για τρίτη συνεχή χρονιά το Μουσικό Φεστιβάλ Φέγγαρος ανοίγει τις πόρτες του για το κοινό, στο γραφικό χωριό της Λόφου, στη Λεμεσό. Θέατρο, stand-up comedy, μουσικοί του δρόμου (busking) και πολλά άλλα εμπλουτίζουν το φετινό φεστιβάλ που θα ξεχυθεί μέσα στα δρομάκια του χωριού το τριήμερο 2-3-4 Αυγούστου. Μουσικά και άλλα δρώμενα θα πραγματοποιούνται σε ταβέρνες, πλατείες, ταράτσες και μέσα σε άδεια παλιά σπίτια. Κορύφωση του φεστιβάλ θα είναι η συναυλία στο δημοτικό σχολείο του χωριού, το Σάββατο 3 Αυγούστου, όπου θα εμφανιστεί οΘανάσης Παπακωνσταντίνου μαζί με τη Ματούλα Ζαμάνη και 7μελή μπάντα. Συμμετέχουν, μεταξύ άλλων, οι The Zilla Project, Nebadrud (με τον Ζαχαρία Σπυριδάκη), Μεράκ, Isaac’s Cello, The Ladderman, Μιχάλης & ΠέτροςΚουλουμής, Πάρις Ερωτοκρίτου. Η τιμή εισόδου καθορίστηκε στα €15 για το τριήμερο και η προπώληση θα αρχίσει στις 12 Ιουλίου σε όλες τις πόλεις.

2. The graffiti and other artists painting on the walls or panels can start their designs from Thursday 25/4 to be able to complete it on the day of the event. If anyone needs anything from us apart from the table and a couple of chairs please don't hesitate to contact us. We can provide some tents but not enough for everybody, so bring your umbrellas!

The Concert is an idea that was born and implemented in record time, at no cost, thanks to the selfless participation of individuals and ensembles who responded to our invitation without a second thought. The idea behind it is to convey an optimistic message for the future: together we can do better.

From 4 pm until midnight on 1 April, about 50 artists from different musical backgrounds, from Cyprus and Greece, will unite their voices and their art in a way that only the language of music knows how to unite, to express in their own way their practical support to the people of our country.

Your support for this initiative will serve to convey to the outside world a resounding message of our solidarity. There is no financial cost to attend the concert, but participants will be asked to make only a contribution in kind, such as food, medicines and other basic items, which will be distributed to individuals, families and other groups who have an immediate need.

PeacePlayers International – Cyprus (PPI-CY) will be holding a Gala Dinner on Friday December 16. The event will be held at Chateau Status in Nicosia at 8:30 pm and will feature special guest EU Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou.

The cost is 60 euro per person and will include a 3-course meal with beer and wine. The night will include live music and presentations from Ms. Vassiliou and PeacePlayers. The cost of dinner will also enter you into a special lottery to win prizes including airplane tickets, hotel stays and more. PPI-CY is a locally registered non-profit organization whose mission is to unite educate and inspire children to develop mutual understanding and respect for each other through the game of basketball. Since its creation in 2007, PPI-CY has worked with over 3,000 Cypriot youth, held over 150 successful bicommunal activities, and trained 30 Cypriot young adults to be coaches and educators in their communities. PPI-CY is currently the only year-round bicommunal youth sports organization on the island. By facilitating regular, frequent, and structured interaction, we help reverse prejudices built steadily over years in segregated communities and foster the long-term trust necessary for true friendship.

This past October, PeacePlayers International received the NGO for Peace of the Year award at the Peace and Sport Awards in Monaco. This global prize is awarded to an NGO that has demonstrated real expertise in using sport as a tool for peace education and has delivered an impact on the people with whom it works. In 2010 PPI-CY was selected to the Beyond Sport Awards shortlist in the category of “Sport for Conflict Resolution.” And in 2008 PPI-CY was the recipient of the Island-Wide Cooperation Award at the Cyprus Civil Society Awards.

In April 2011, PeacePlayers was selected by UK’s Prince William and Miss Middleton as a beneficiary of their charitable wedding fund. Soon after, US President Barack Obama also made a personal charitable donation to PeacePlayers.

Ευρωπαϊκό Συνέδριο για την Παράνομη Θανάτωση Πουλιών

λαμβάνει χώρα στην Κύπρο

Η Σύμβαση της Βέρνης για την Ευρωπαϊκή Άγρια Ζωή και τους Φυσικούς Οικοτόπους, σε συνεργασία με το Ταμείο Θήρας του Υπουργείου Εσωτερικών, διοργανώνει στην Κύπρο, Ευρωπαϊκό Συνέδριο για την Παράνομη Θανάτωση Πουλιών. Το Συνέδριο θα πραγματοποιηθεί στη Λάρνακα μεταξύ 6-8 Ιουλίου και αναμένεται να προσελκύσει περισσότερους από 100 εκπροσώπους κρατών που υπέγραψαν τη Σύμβαση, της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής και της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας, καθώς επίσης και Μη Κυβερνητικών Οργανώσεων.

Με αφορμή τη διοργάνωση του εν λόγω Συνεδρίου στη χώρα μας, οι Φίλοι της Γης Κύπρου, ο Πτηνολογικός Σύνδεσμος Κύπρου και το Κυπριακό Ίδρυμα Προστασίας του Περιβάλλοντος Terra Cypria χαιρετίζουν την πρωτοβουλία αυτή, ενώ παράλληλα τονίζουν ότι η επιλογή του νησιού μας ως χώρου διεξαγωγής του Συνεδρίου δεν είναι καθόλου τυχαία. Αντίθετα, η έξαρση της παράνομης παγίδευσης αποδημητικών πουλιών που παρατηρείται στη χώρα μας, απασχολεί εδώ και μια δεκαετία τη Σύμβαση. Παράλληλα, το φαινόμενο δεν αποτελεί πλέον μια παραδοσιακή πρακτική, αλλά απεναντίας λαμβάνει τρομακτικές διαστάσεις “βιομηχανικής” κλίμακας και συχνά ελέγχεται από εγκληματικά στοιχεία. Ως αποτέλεσμα, εκατοντάδες χιλιάδες πουλιά θανατώνονται κάθε χρόνο στο νησί μας, ενώ η μη-επιλεκτική φύση της παγίδευσης επιφέρει τη θανάτωση ενός τεράστιου αριθμού ειδών άγριων πουλιών, αρκετά από τα οποία απειλούνται σε παγκόσμιο επίπεδο.

Μεταξύ άλλων, στο Συνέδριο θα συζητηθεί πως μπορεί να εφαρμοστεί πιο αποτελεσματικά η νομοθεσία και πως μπορεί να ενισχυθεί η ευαισθητοποίηση του κοινού, για την προστασία των αποδημητικών πουλιών και της βιοποικιλότητας γενικά.

Οι τρεις τοπικές περιβαλλοντικές οργανώσεις που ασχολούνται ενεργά με το ζήτημα της παράνομης και μη-επιλεκτικής παγίδευσης και θανάτωσης πουλιών εύχονται ότι το Συνέδριο αυτό θα συμβάλει στην εντατικοποίηση των προσπαθειών των Κυπριακών αρχών για οριστική πάταξη του επικίνδυνου αυτού φαινομένου. Η επίδειξη μιας πιο αποφασιστικής πολιτικής βούλησης είναι αναγκαία, ενόψει της κακής εικόνας που δημιουργείται για τη χώρα μας στο εξωτερικό και των ευρύτερων επιπτώσεων που αυτή δημιουργεί.

With support from the Artos Foundation and the Austrian Embassy, PPI-CY will by holding a special screening of the movie Mount St. Elias, a dramatic and awe-inspiring feature documentary following three of the world’s greatest ski mountaineers to Mount St. Elias in their attempt to realize the longest ski descent of the world. Peace Players organised a Basketball Tournament for young people last Saturday. The aim of this event was to promote the interaction of children from the two communities.

"Spring Basketball Tournament"

PeacePlayers-Cyprus is organising a “Spring Basketball Tournament” for youth ages 11 to 16 on Saturday, the 7th of May in Nicosia. The aim of this event is to bring children from different communities from across Cyprus together to play basketball in an inclusive and fun-filled environment.

“This tournament is a great way to promote peace, and ecourage Greek-Cypriot and Turkish-Cypriot youth to interact with each other and participate in sports. Our tournament will bring together over 150 children to play and learn with each other over an afternoon of basketball, food and music. We are very excited to have our tournament be part of the Home for Cooperation’s opening ceremony,” said Marina Vasilara, PeacePlayers – Cyprus Managing Director.

The Tournament will host over 150 Greek-Cypriot and Turkish-Cypriot boys and girls from across Cyprus coming together to play 3-on-3 basketball in mixed teams, listen to music, enjoy food and special activities together, celebrating peace and sports in their own way. The idea is that sport can be used as a tool to help break down social divides and begin to change negative perceptions children may have about members of the other community.

This Tournament will also coincide with the opening of the Home for Cooperation (H4C) in the buffer zone across from Ledra Palace. The H4C will function as a shared space for intercommunal cooperation and dialogue, and the new permanent location of PeacePlayers in Cyprus. Following the basketball tournament, children will walk to the H4C for a celebration with food and a live concert.

The ‘Spring Basketball Tournament’ is supported by the US Embassy’s Bicommunal Support Program. Additional activities will be taking place as part of a bigger project throughout 2011.

The tournament will take place on Saturday, May 7, from 15:00 - 18:00, at the Centinkaya Football Club across from Ledra Palace in Nicosia.

Peace Players – Kıbırs 7 Mayıs 2011 Cumartesi günü 11 – 16 yaş grubu gençler için Lefkoşa’da “İlkbahar Basketbol Turnuvası” organize ediyor. Bu organizasyonun amacı Kıbrısın her köşesinden çocukları katılımcı ve eğlenceli bir ortamda biraraya getirerek basketbol oynamalarını sağlamaktır.

Peace Players – Kıbrıs Genel Müdürü Marina Vasilara şöyle diyor “ Bu turnuva barışı desteklemek, Kıbrıslı Rumlar ve Türkleri birbirleri ile iletişime geçmek ve spor yapmak için teşvik eden bulunmaz bir fırsattır. Turnuvamız basketbol, yiyecek ve müzik dolu bir öğleden sonrada, birlikte öğrenmek ve oynamak için 150 çocuğu biraraya getirecektir. Turnuvamızın Home Of Cooperation açılış kutlamalarının bir parçası olduğundan dolayı da fazlasıyla heyecan duymaktayız.”

Turnuvamız Kıbrısın her yanından 150 Kıbrıslı Rum ve Türk çocuğa, karışık takımlarda 3’e 3 basketbol maçı yapmak, müzik dinlemek, sunulan yemeklerin tadını çıkarmak, özel aktivitelere katılmak, barışı ve sporu kendi yöntemleri ile kutlamak için ev sahipliği yapacaktır. Anafikrimiz, sporun sosyal bölünmüşlüğü ortadan kaldırmak ve çocuklarımızın diğer toplum ile ilgili, sahip olması muhtemel, olumsuz algıları değiştirmek için bir araç olarak kullanılabileceğidir.

Bu turnuva aynı zamanda ara bölgede, Ledra Palace yakınındaki, Home For Cooperation (H4C)’ın açılışına denk gelmektedir. H4C toplumlar arası işbirliği ve diyaloglar için ev sahipliği yapmakla birlikte Peace Players – Kıbrıs’ın yeni ofisini barındıracaktır. Basketbol turnuvasından sonra, çocuklar H4C binasına yürüyerek orada yiyecekler ve konser eşliğinde bir kutlama yapacaklardır.

“İlkbahar Basketbol Turnuvası” Amerikan Elçiliği’nin Toplumlararası Destek Programı tarafından desteklenmektedir. Daha büyük bir projenin parçaları olan farklı etkinlikler 2011 yılı içerisinde yer alacaktır.

Turnuva 7 Mayıs Cumartesi saat 15:00 – 18:00 saatleri arasında, Lefkoşa Ledra Palace yakınındaki Çetinkaya Spor Kulübünde yer alacaktır.

On the occasion of the inauguration of Home for Cooperation, POST Research Institute is delighted to invite you to walk together to experience the multiculturalism of the fascinating city of Nicosia
On 7 May 2011, Saturday.

Meeting Point:
Ledra Street and Lokmaci checkpoints

Multi-communal groups will have the opportunity to experience the history and multiculturalism of our capital city

This is a chance for all communities in Cyprus to meet each other and explore the history and culture of Nicosia in a multicultural atmosphere

You have the opportunity to choose between the “full day experience walk” with a chance to enjoy some of the festivities at the Home for Cooperation during our lunch stop (approx. 5 hours) or a “short” walk.

Our walks will finish in front of the “Home of Cooperation”, opposite Ledra Palace (UN Buffer Zone, Nicosia), where we will have the opportunity to participate in various activities organised by several NGOs in celebration of the inauguration of Home for Cooperation.

Make sure you have your identity cards or passports.

Είναι μια ευκαιρία για όλες τις κοινότητες της Κύπρου να συναντηθούν και να εξερευνήσουν την ιστορία και τον πολιτισμό της Λευκωσίας σε μια πολυπολιτισμική ατμόσφαιρα

Έχετε τη δυνατότητα να επιλέξετε μεταξύ ενός “ολοήμερου” περιπάτου (περίπου 5 ώρες) και να απολαύσετε κάποιες από τις δραστηριότητες που θα πραγματοποιούνται στο “Home for Cooperation” κατά τη διάρκεια του μεσημεριανού μας διαλείμματος, και ενός “σύντομου” περιπάτου.
