Wow I have not been a good blogger! Last year was full of up's and down's... travel, growth, change, and LIFE! Here are just a few pic's to capture the year -

In April, I became a Beachbody coach - it's been a life changing choice! I've been able to help so many people start their own journey towards getting healthy, building a business and finding more financial freedom, and made a TON of awesome friends! These are my results from 21 Day Fix and 21 Day Fix Extreme! Baby steps towards a healthier & stronger ME! :) I am starting The Master's Hammer & Chisel on Monday - join me and get healthy in 2016!!

We made it to Ft. Walton Beach, FL in March - checked out a Home Show, and enjoyed the gorgeous white beaches & condo!

Christmas morning 2015! We sure missed Elisabeth this year, and I ended up with the stomach bug! Despite all of that, we have been blessed and had a wonderful holiday season!

I couldn't even narrow it down, but these were just a few of the 'high's' of 2015!

2016 is sure to be even better! Putting God first and focusing on our family & businesses is the plan - finding happiness and helping others do the same thing!

C'mon SPRING!!!!!

I don't know about YOU, but I am really loving these warmer temperature's the past few days! The rain is just going to make for greener grass and more flower blooms in the upcoming weeks! :) We have started on our garden, and I'm positive that this rain is going to make for an awesome crop this year ;) Seeds are started indoors, a few herbs going in the greenhouse, and some spring crops are started in the garden! If you can't tell, I'm pretty excited about it this year! I love being able to pick fresh veggies and fruits from my own back yard- and getting the whole family involved! I'll be sure to update our progress!

We have had so much going on since I last posted on here - balancing it all can be challenging! I'm so thankful that I have an awesome support system to keep me sane! HAHA!! Seriously though, my hubby is so amazing! He is the calm to my crazy :) And my kiddos are pretty stinkin' awesome as well! We all make a great team! We went down to a Home Show last weekend in Florida- I LOVEEEEE it down there! Seriously, I could relocate tomorrow! Me + Sunshine = Happy Jen :) We met some great people, and saw some wonderful products at the show. And we were able to enjoy the beach & pool for a bit as well! #winwin

FAITH-

I found this cute pic on Pinterest! It is PERFECT for my mind today- I have so many thoughts and ideas and worries and work and family and... STOP IT JEN :) This was my reminder to STOP worrying, and just turn it over to God! No matter what is going on, He has it under control! So even when I can't see what He has planned, I will walk by faith and TRUST His plan! :)

FAMILY-

We are busy! Homeschool, work, babysitting, work, gardening, work, and did I mention WORK?! Ha! #blessed

We are also in the process of trying to figure out Carter's food allergies- we are on day #7 of Paleo-ish/Whole 30-ish diet to eliminate possible culprits (dairy, soy, msg, and we already know that he can't do gluten) And just because I needed to get my own nutrition under control, I'm doing it with him! :) Pray for us as we get his nutrition figured out- I just want a healthy baby again!

And we are going to have another addition to the Scott family SOON! My sister-in-law and brother will be adding a baby boy sometime in the next few weeks- and I am super excited to meet him! (My sister is also expecting in June- and they aren't finding out the sex until he or she is born! The suspense is killing me!!!)

FITNESS-

I am really missing my fit classes... but I am thankful that I'm able to keep in touch with so many of you via social media! AND I'm happy to see that so many of you have kept up with your healthier lifestyle! I try to continue posting motivational content, articles, etc. for everyone! It also helps to keep me motivated and healthy! Sharing your journey is a GREAT way to have public accountability! I finished PIYO and have been doing HIIT workouts & strength training- focusing on getting stronger & healthier! I try to post workouts, food ideas, motivation, fitness info and articles, etc. to my IG & FB accounts!

January Update!

What a gorgeous morning! We are having unbelievably awesome weather (for a January in Missouri, that is! Definitely not as nice as my Florida friends, but nicer than the blizzard that is overtaking the northeast today!) and the rest of this week looks nice! My little man is finally old enough to NOT eat everything that he picks up, so we have been outside a lot! ;)

Life has been busy, but blessed! I have obviously slacked on blogging, but I will give you a quick update!

FAITH-
This year, one of my goals is to read through the Bible again. I'm following a plan on the Bible app on my phone, and love it! I'm also reading the MSG version this time, which is a change from my usual. God has been so amazing to our family, and I just want to please Him and show others how amazing His grace is! I'll be posting updates to this blog, so just shoot me an email with any questions!

FAMILY-
Our family is doing great & expanding (not me, my sis and sis-in-law)!!! Bryan & Charith are due in March, and Teresa & Shaun live in Colorado and will welcome their little bundle of joy in June! I am SOOOOOOOOOOO excited! :) The rest of our family is doing great as well! I went by the nursing home yesterday & visited with my Grandma- she was having a good day & was full of stories to tell me! Here is more on my little family-

Homeschooling is going great- she ended her semester with all A's, rocked the CAT test (momma needed to make sure that she was retaining all of that info!), and I'm loving the opportunity it gives to make learning FUN! She did a pig dissection class last week at Wonder's of Wildlife (Bass Pro), and while that isn't MY idea of fun, she loved it! She loved it so much that she kept sending me pictures labeled 'oink oink' (gag!) HA!
Carter is growing up WAAAAAY too fast! He is 18 month's old, running, climbing, talking, and in to everything! He is all boy, and we have so much fun! I don't know that I've blogged about it, but he can not eat gluten, Last week he got into some and broke out in a horrible case of hives and was sick to his stomach... it's amazing what all they add gluten products to, but I'll save that rant for another day! He loves trucks, tractors, and riding in "dadda's BIG truck" :)
Speaking of dadda- work is staying steady, and Pat has done some really amazing remodel work! I love seeing the transformations of these home projects! It's amazing what can be done to fix up a space, and at any budget! People automatically think that they can't afford to do anything, but there are just SO MANY options out there! I'm always giving him ideas from my HGTV watching experiences (not so sure that he loves them, but he gets them nonetheless!)

FITNESS-

I miss my bootcamp ladies & gent's! I am super happy to see that some of them are continuing with fitness and staying healthy, though! I *may* have a fitness option in the works soon, more to be announced at a later date!!!

As for my personal fitness journey, it's taken an interesting twist! (interesting if you like fitness and know me!) I dislocated my left shoulder a few months ago and had to rest... I HATE resting, but with the amount of pain I had, I didn't really have an option! Fast forward the weeks of healing, and I was able to start strengthening the joint again. I started doing PIYO, which is so far off of my usual fitness path that it's not even funny, and I have ended up loving it! I've just about finished a full round, and I'm more flexible that ever, longer & leaner, and more toned without the heavy weights and joint pain! I definitely recommend it to anyone! Even if you incorporate a few days of it in with your current routine, it would be beneficial to your muscles! I have started adding weight training and HIIT back in, and while I still love doing that I'm really glad that I found PIYO! As far as my fitness goals, I'm still working on being active daily (which I have a FitBit now, and that helps to remind me to get moving!) and remembering to eat healthy - Florida will be here before I know it!

Our 4th of July weekend, and training update...

Happy Monday! It's a gorgeous morning here today! I got up early to get my workout in because it's going to be humid and in the 90's this afternoon!

I hope that you all had a great weekend (holiday weekend, if you're in the states!) Ours didn't quite go as planned, but it still was pretty awesome! Friday I woke up feeling a little 'off' - slight headache, tired, etc... but Carter had been up several times the night before (teething- AAUGH!) so I didn't think much of it. I got in a really sluggish workout, cleaned the house, and we headed to meet up with the family for 4th of July festivities! Long story short, my headache got worse & worse to the point that we left early & came home, and I'm pretty sure that I had my first migraine :( It was horrible, and it lasted all night and into Saturday. I pretty much moved from couch to bed on Saturday, but by evening it was much better. My daughter flew home Saturday night (YAY YAY YAY!!!) and we got to hear all about her Colorado adventures! Sunday, we stayed in for the morning and got some cleaning & re-organizing done, then spent the afternoon at my parents house with my brother, sis-in-law, and nephew. We ended the weekend with a movie night, and grilled some fish for dinner!

FAITH-

Do you ever feel like you want an answer to something SO BAD but aren't getting it? That's me, all of the time :) I am always working on my patience, and God is always helping me along! Be patient, trust in Him, keep praying, and He will give you an answer... and remember, it's always in His timing! Take it from an impatient person :) It's always worth the wait!

**And I LOVE the shirt that I added in the pic collage up above- 'She is Strong'- I would totally wear it! I'm not the craftiest person, but I might have to try to make something like that!

FAMILY-

It was great to see some of the family this weekend! And SUPER great to have my daughter back in town! A big thanks to my sister and Shaun for having her visit, taking her to camp, and showing her so many beautiful sight's in Colorado!

FITNESS:

Starting today, we are making a change that would actually fit into both family & fitness. I will no longer be working out of Elite Athletics, and will be working on a more full-time basis for my husband's company. (Shameless plug- check out his amazing work by clicking HERE!! I will be adding some new picture's soon of a job that he just finished, it turned out AWESOME! I love seeing the before/after pics of a remodel- there is so much that can be updated & improved in every home!)

My love of health & fitness has not changed, but it was time for a transition in the work environment! July 2nd - beautiful day in the Ozarks!

*Side note- I wrote this yesterday, but every time that I tried to publish it our internet would go out... So frustrating! So you get to enjoy it today!

Oh my, this is 3 days of blogging in a row! Woohoo :) What a gorgeous day we are having! We decided to get out and enjoy the morning at one of our local parks with some friends, and we had so much fun! It was C's first time to play in the fountains, and he loved it! I didn't get any water pictures (my phone SO would have ended up in the water- I didn't even attempt it!) but here is a pic of C playing in the park! He fell asleep about 2 minutes into the car ride home, and we are working on a 2 hour nap! Gotta love sunshine & water :)

FAITH:

I got a text from a friend that had read my blog yesterday- awesome news, because I never know if anyone actually reads my ramblings or not :) She got me thinking about prayer- praying for friends/family/co-worker's/strangers/etc... we often talk about the power of prayer, but are we afraid to ask FOR prayer? I know that I don't ask for it unless it's a bad situation. I think that we need to remember to pray for our loved ones all of the time! Pray for their daily lives, not just the bad situations that we all face! If you have prayer requests, feel free to post them on the comments (only if you want to!) and I will pray for you!

FAMILY:

Here is my daughter, on a horseback ride in the mountains! She is going to remember this trip for a lifetime! A big thank you to my sis & Shaun for showing her such a great time!

FITNESS:

I had such a great workout today- at home, while my son was napping! I am really into the HIIT-style workouts, and I usually create my own workouts based on whatever muscle group I'm wanting to train that day! Today was cardio & legs - and let me tell you that I'm already feeling those hamstrings!

I gave my clients the week off - with my daughter being gone, travel schedules, sickness, & it being a holiday week, I figured we were better off starting the new 4 week session next week... I did NOT, however, give them the week off! (*evil trainer grin*) Instead, my normal clients are getting daily workouts sent to them (tough, intense, at-home, FUN calorie burners!!) So I'm excited to see them all next week, & hear how much they loved the workouts!

I've also been working with our cheer teams by creating workouts for them to do both at home and as conditioning at the gym! Staying in shape is so important for our young athletes out there - it not only improves their skills & sport, but it helps in preventing injury! Encourage your kids to stay active and be healthy!

It's July 1st! This summer is seriously moving by quickly! I woke up this morning with this blog on my mind, so I figured that was a good sign that I needed to write! The past few weeks have been a whirlwind of changes & praying & thinking, so this post may be a cluster of unfinished thoughts & ideas! HA!

The first thing that I did today was to go back and read my very first post... the reason that I felt led to write this blog. You can check it out HERE or just click on the link about in the description. I always suggest that people read it first to see what my point of view is before continuing to read. I'm a Christian chick, a family person (and I have strong momma bear instincts- my kids are my world!) and I LOVE helping people get healthy through fitness & nutrition. Well, today I needed to read this to remind me of a few things. First off- WOW so much has changed since I started this! Our family has grown, by welcoming Carter last July! Secondly, God is clearly wanting me to continue writing on here. Hopefully it is helpful to someone out there in cyber land! With the baby, work, babysitting, and a million other excuses, I've neglected writing for quite awhile. I'm the perfect example of someone who has made mistakes, but God loves me anyway! I think that a lot of people feel like they can't be forgiven for past mistakes, but you can! I hope that this blog reaches you!

FAITH:

Psalm 103:8The Message (MSG)

6-18 God makes everything come out right;
    he puts victims back on their feet.
He showed Moses how he went about his work,
    opened up his plans to all Israel.
God is sheer mercy and grace;
    not easily angered, he’s rich in love.

I really like this verse- and it doesn't matter which type of Bible that you use, the meaning is still there! (For the record, I like the MSG because it seems easier to read and understand, especially when I'm talking to my 13 year old about stuff! I also have a King James, and other varieties... my thoughts are that you should have whichever speaks to you & that you will study!  It doesn't do much good if it's collecting dust on a shelf or in an app that you never open!)

Just like in the 1st blog post, I have all of my faith in God... what kinds of changes does He want me to make? Where does He want me to go? I pray that I will be ready for whatever it is that He wants me to do :)  I have grown up with many examples of people that are obedient and faithful, so it's easy for me to have faith that God will provide!  I shouldn't say 'easy' - I have days where I let the worry get to me just like everyone else... but I have had the privilege of growing up in a Christian home, and having great Christian examples in my life. I know that God is awesome!

Another random thought that has been on my mind is the scariness of the world that we live in. I know that in the end we are heading for a much better place, but in the meantime it's scary to even turn on the news!  And I know that I can't shelter my kids from the world, but some days it seems like such a good idea ;)

FAMILY-

Our family is doing pretty well! As a mom, having a daughter that is now in her teen years is a wee bit scary! Thankfully, she has our family to support her (& teach her... definitely not her favorite part now, but someday she will be thankful about it. Ha!!)  She has had a pretty eventful summer- she's at a volleyball camp near my sister's house this week and having a blast!  When she's not at camp, she's getting to hike and see the beauty of the Rocky Mountains!  She has church camp coming up, and then my sister's wedding!!

The baby is growing up fast- he will be a year old this month!  What a crazy fast year this has been!!!  He's awesome, and 100% boy- loves to make a mess, loves to climb everything, and is a sweet sweet boy!  He also adores his sister, so this week has been rough on him with her gone!

Pat and I are also doing well- he is keeping busy with work (Praise!) and I'm keeping busy with the kids, my nephew, doing the business paperwork, and my evening classes at the gym!

We love our families- we are getting to spend some time with Pat's family this summer (the kids are in town- yay!) and my side of the family gets to be 'harassed' by us all of the time :)

The extended family is good, too- new babies, babies on the way, and Grandma Helen was having a good day at the nursing home when I took the boys to visit yesterday! We are so fortunate to be surrounded by an awesome family!

FITNESS-

Since I had the baby, I've definitely taken a few steps back with work. I'm just doing group classes now, & I have some amazing women in the classes! They are dedicated, hard working, and they are awesome!!!  So a big 'THANK YOU' to you ladies, for hanging in there, for switching to a group exercise class, and for those of you that switched to virtual training!  Being a mom is my first priority BUT health & fitness is also very important in my life! I hope that I'm helping you find a balance in your life as well!  You CAN be healthy & busy at the same time!!!!

My personal health & fitness journey is just that... a journey!  I've found a balance that I didn't have before having the baby!  I just don't have the time to spend hours at the gym working out, so I've adapted my routine & I am so happy!  I lift weights, do HIIT training, and eat better- and it works for me!

1 day before Carter / this morning

I've been asked many times about my post-baby workout plan. Well, any "plans" that I had were quickly thrown out the window! I have learned through trial and error to be flexible! I am a very hands-on type of mommy, and I wouldn't change it for the world! But that definitely puts a damper on working out! Carter is with me most of the time, so I have found ways to include him in my workouts. My jogging stroller has a lot of miles on it already! I do squats and lunges while holding him if he's having 'one of those' days :) I go to the gym to teach my fitness classes, and most of the time he is there clapping and cheering my ladies on!

So what have I done to make some progress? I contribute a LOT of it to breastfeeding. It's made me stay aware of my eating habits, eat a little bit cleaner, and avoid all supplements... yep, these are all fat-burner free results! I've also become a lot more relaxed with my fitness regimen. Before Carter, and even throughout my entire pregnancy, I could easily spend a few hours at the gym a day. Now I do all of my workouts at home and with my bootcamp ladies in the evenings. My workouts are quick and intense (quick being the key word-Carter is not a good napper and wants to help me workout... so heavy weights and quick, HIIT workouts have been my key!) The same workouts that I do at home are what I have my clients doing :) We also go on walks and runs when we can!

Also, taking a few minutes each day to pray and have quiet time has helped me to deal with the lack of sleep and craziness of life! (it's not always quiet- but sometimes Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is kind of like quiet!) God has been so good to our family - I only hope that I can do what He wants and be a good witness to others!

If you're a new mommy, hang in there and relax!! Enjoy this time because it goes so fast! (Seriously, I can't believe we are planning his 1 year birthday already!) Go for walks, and find a workout that you enjoy! It helps you to feel better, look better, and have more fun out there playing with the kiddos!

Long overdue update!

Time flies when you're having fun (or when you have kids, lol!) We are doing fantastic- Carter is almost 9 months old & Elisabeth is 13!! (yikes!) I'm still doing training, but it's on a very limited basis- between babysitting and working for Pat in the office, life is busy! God is good!!

FAITH-
God is so good- He has blessed us with a great family, a great church, & a happy life! It's 'God 1st' for me, and I thank Him daily for all that He does for us! I think that a lot of changes will be happening soon, and I'm excited to see how it all works out!

FAMILY-
Our family is doing well! The kids are great and so are the 'parents' :) My extended family is also pretty awesome - my sis is getting married this summer and I'm so excited for her & Shaun! My brother, sis-in-law, and nephew are doing fantastic as well! I'm so lucky to be able to watch my nephew and let the boys grow up together! My grandma is still fighting some health issues, so please keep her in your prayers!

FITNESS:

Work- I'm back to training, but on a pretty limited basis! Between working for my hubby, babysitting 2 extra babies (almost-7 months old & 18 months old, in addition to my almost-9 month old!), & life- it's been busy! I am teaching a Mon/Tues/Thur class from 5:30-6, which has been awesome! I've got a fantastic group of ladies that attend, & they are getting some awesome results! I try to constantly change up the class format- that way you (& your muscles!) never know what to expect other than a good workout!

Personal- I'm pretty proud of the progress that I've made so far! I'm 7 pounds under my pre-pregnancy weight now, and working hard to regain my strength :) Overall I'm getting good results- just a bit of toning to my middle that I'm still waiting on! LOL!! I'm doing HIIT style workouts in the mornings 5-6 days a week, mixing in some walks & runs when the weather permits, & working out with my classes (when Carter cooperates!) I'm debating on whether or not to post some progress pics :)

I hope that you are all having an amazing holiday season! We have been enjoying the celebrations with the kiddos (& it's Carter's first year, so lots of "firsts" going on around here!) Elisabeth is turning 13 on Saturday (yes, THIRTEEN- I am about to have a TEENAGER! Scary & awesome at the same time!! She's such an awesome young lady, and very determined & strong-willed... it's going to get her to some exciting places in life!) and Carter just turned 5 months old! Life is pretty amazing- what a change from a year ago! God is pretty awesome- and His timing is perfect! I would have never imagined having a baby at 35 years old, but I can not imagine life without him in our family! Lots of changes, and lots of love :) So here is my "FFF" update:

FAITH-
Like I said before, God is awesome! We have definitely had a tough time getting to church with a new baby... I know it's easy to make excuses, but between him being sick, us catching the stomach flu, and no sleep from teething- it's been tough! I was so so so very happy that we got to do Carter's baby dedication last month- that is a day that I will always remember! Here is our family pic from that special celebration:

One thing that I've tried to keep on the top of my list this year is to remember the reason for the season! It's so easy to get wrapped up in all of the shopping, gifts, and parties... but the real reason for Christmas is Jesus! That is one thing that I really want to teach my kids- the true meaning of Christmas!

FAMILY:

We have been busy busy busy!!! Pat has stayed busy with work, and I've been busy with the kids (as well as watching two others throughout the week! Crazy, they are all under 16 months!) Elisabeth had her birthday party last weekend, and here are a few pics! She has an amazing group of friends, and they had a sleepover here and we went glow golfing the next afternoon!

FITNESS:

My post-pregnancy journey is still going on! I reached my pre-pregnancy weight around 4 months post-partum... I still have lots of work to do, though! I have been focused on lifting weights, HIIT, and TRX training to get back in shape! Fitting in workouts around a baby and a busy almost-teenager is a challenge, but if I can do it, anyone can! I plan on cracking down on the junk food once we get past the holidays- I think an occasional treat is just fine! Many other fitness professionals might disagree, but I think that my method has worked for many clients and myself :)

If I have enough interest, I'm going to start a Tuesday/Thursday evening group class in January - I'm excited to get back into it! I've missed my clients!!!! Make sure to get in contact with me asap if you're interested, and I'll make a final decision about the class soon!

I still have a sick baby- but he amazes me with his cute little smiles! I wasn't feeling all that "smiley" this morning after another non-sleeping night, but who can resist baby smiles?! So we got up & around, got Elisabeth ready for school, my amazing hubby dropped her off for me (THANK YOU!!) and Carter & I took a little nap :) We are heading back to the doctor this afternoon. It's his 2 month checkup, and I'm hoping that things are still okay with this awful cough hanging on...

So yes, it's been a rather stressful week! I'm glad that I took some time to thank God for our stresses :) Yes, that may sound rather odd, but I am thankful for it!

Stress over a sick baby- I thank God for giving us Carter! He chose us to raise this awesome kid!
Stress over work stuff- I thank God for providing work & giving us what we need!
Stress over lack of sleep- I thank God for coffee :) :) :)

My point is that we should be thankful for everything that he sends our way. Although it may be tough at times, when you look back at a specific situation later on you will realize that there was a reason for it!

The title of this post is based on my day today...

Part 1- Literally, my allergies are so bad today that I can't breathe through my nose. At. All. Ragweed is bad for my body- very, very, very bad!! When I had allergy tests ran several years ago, the ragweed needle caused a lump like a golf ball- definitely allergic! The good news is that I went through the allergy shot series, and combining that with Allegra & steroid spray helps a LOT! The bad news is that I can't take any of that since I'm breastfeeding. The only approved allergy medication is Claritin, which does nothing for me... so I will be wheezing & sneezing for the better of my baby! #truelove #CarterLove

Part 2- Figuratively, it's a "take a deep breath" type of day! My little Carter has his first cold, and it's a doozy! He's coughing and congested, which means he is having a hard time eating & sleeping... which means I'm having a hard time sleeping & worrying about him! At this age, all that I can do is keep him snuggled by the humidifier, and use saline drops & the nose sucker... We are now on day #3, and I really hope that we are getting close to the end! He is just not feeling good- despite that, I'm still getting some smiles :) He's such a happy little guy, even when he feels icky!

As you can see, I haven't been posting as much as I planned on... I don't know how you momma's keep up that have multiple infants/toddlers! My house needs a good cleaning, I need to not wear sweats most days & join the "get dresssed up & wear makeup" club again, and sleep will be nice one of these days! HAHA!! But I wouldn't trade it for the world- if you're a parent, you totally get what I mean & where I'm coming from. If you aren't, then someday you will get it! I would have thought that the author of this were crazy if I read this before having kids :)

So on to my 3-F's...

Faith-
I am putting all worry on the back burner and totally turning myself over to God, through faith. #bigstepsforaworrier... I am a natural worrier- so this is REALLY a tough thing! I've been praying about our family, our future, work, money... you know, all of the things that we worry about! I took the 1st step, and felt God leading me to a 'Mom's Group' at our church. It's a weekly Bible study, and I'm not sure of the reasons but I do know that He wants me there! Step 2- I'm also trying to turn over more control to my hubby... I *might* be a wee bit controlling, which goes along perfectly with my usual worrying. I'm going to trust his decisions, and focus more on being a good wife & mother (and maybe try to get the house cleaned, it's seriously driving me crazy but I'm sooooo tired!) I'm sure that this whole process of change that I'm feeling is leading us somewhere- I know that God is preparing us for some type of upcoming change, and I want to be ready & willing when He calls us to action!

Family-
Our family is doing pretty good, other than the allergy/cold issues of the past few days!

My hubby is working hard, and I love him for being such a good provider! I feel bad that he's been so busy, but I am also thankful that God is providing jobs & that Pat is so talented at construction! The before & after pics that he keeps bringing home from these remodels are pretty awesome!!

Elisabeth got student of the month at her new school (in the 1st month- proud mama moment!!) I am so proud of her- switching schools was something that I prayed about and stressed over, but I am glad that we made the decision! All A's, great friends, and it's worked out better for the family as a whole!

Carter is growing- he's almost 2 months old & maturing by the day! We get lots of smile & laughs now!!

Fitness-
My personal fitness has been on hold for a few days, other than my nutrition! I'm sticking to mostly-paleo nutrition plan, with a few slip-up's, but overall I'm eating really clean. I've been running 5-6 mornings per week, and doing strength workouts 3x per week, but had to focus on sleep the past few mornings... I plan on resting today, and getting back into it tomorrow if I can breathe a little better! I'm still slowly losing the baby weight, & toning up! As long as I'm making forward progress, I'm happy (most of the time... some days I get really frustrated with my body, but I think that's mostly hormones! HAHA!)
Work fitness- I'm not back at it yet... Trying to figure out times to train clients has been difficult with Pat's schedule and a new baby! I'm dedicating a few evenings per week to schedule clients, and maybe one morning where Pat can stay with Carter, and I'm not starting group classes at this time. I want to be there for my clients, so these personal training sessions will be amazing :-) I can't wait to start training again- I love seeing people get healthy & happy! It's amazing how your outlook changes when you're healthy- you just have the ability to enjoy life so much more! That's the best part of my job!!

Gotta run- Carter is waking up & it's time to sit in the steamy bathroom to help him breathe!

The 'Kate' effect... attention all mommies!

I look at this photo and see a happy couple & their newborn baby (okay, they just happen to be royal & chased by the paparazzi, but you know what I mean...) This photo was taken only a few days after I had Carter, so I totally understood how amazing they were feeling about their new addition!

However, what seemed to make the most news was the fact that she still had a small belly. As a woman, and a new mommy, that is so irritating! BUT- I totally applaud her for showing what a woman actually looks like after birth! Too many times we see the 'movie star' back in her size zero clothing while toting around her very young infant... while there are some very genetically blessed chicks that walk out of the hospital in their pre-prego clothes, most of us do NOT! I most definitely did not! At 6 weeks post-partum, I still don't fit into most of my normal clothes. And I worked out throughout my entire pregnancy! It's tough to not get frustrated & angry sometimes! I mean, it's not like I just had a baby or anything! (& hormones don't help with the self image problems- ugh!!)

So what do we do?

First, look to positive role models such as Kate for what the post-partum reality is... and BE a positive role model for others! We all have rough days- sleep deprivation can be really tough emotionally! Help out your fellow ladies by being encouraging and KIND!

Second, create a plan to help you reach your goals... and make those goals realistic! I always say short-term goals are sooooo important (maybe take the baby on a walk 3x per week, or cut out sweets- make them attainable goals!) My plan is to keep exercising daily, and I'm starting back with paleo nutrition next week. I'm making progress and still losing weight each week, but it does get frustrating to see just how far I still have to go! I'm also going to continue to blog about my journey- hopefully I can be an encouragement and positive motivator to someone out there that needs to hear it!

So, to all of you mommies and mommies-to-be, remember that it took 10 months to stretch and grow enough to have that healthy baby. Give yourself time to get that body back! And anytime that you start to get frustrated by the time it's taking to get your body back, just look down at that precious baby you're holding & realize that it was worth it all :)

Take a look at this handsome, smiling face!!! Since Monday's tend to be rough, I thought that I would share it with you guys- he's almost 6 weeks old & developing quite the personality! (& remember, 4-day weekend ahead- WOOHOO!!!!!!)

I've been getting in some really good, quick workouts the past few weeks! And yesterday, my awesome hubby helped me set up a mini-gym downstairs and built a pull-up station!! I've found that with a newborn, getting in a HIIT-style workout is the best & most effective way to workout. I have (literally!) hundreds of hour long bootcamp workouts saved from all of my classes, but I don't have a full hour to get in a workout with Carter around! But 20 minutes is do-able, and he will sit in his chair or lay on a blanket & watch me (& laugh!) I'm still losing weight, slowly but surely, and I'm starting to gain my strength back. The very first workout that I did was terrible as far as core strength... I'm still not back to normal, but I am able to do a lot more (with good form!) now. There are some great sites online with HIIT workouts (hiitmamas.blogspot.com & dailyhiit.com are 2 of my fave's!) and I usually combine those with some of my own fitness touches! Strength training is so important, and so many ladies don't do it! Lift weights girls- you won't bulk up, but you WILL look much better with some muscle tone! Cardio is good as well, but don't skimp on the lifting!!

My blog has gone a little off-track over the past 10 months or so! With the arrival of Carter, and things getting back to normal (or the 'new' normal- sleep deprivation is now normal!) I think it's time to get back to why I started this blog in the first place! FAITH, FAMILY, FITNESS - in that order!!

FAITH-

I can't tell you how much my faith means to me. I mean, I can try to express it with words, but it's more of a feeling, and I hope that I express it with how I live my life! Having Carter is a result of faith &of God's timing! I know, let the jokes begin, but seriously it is! I didn't think that we could have any kids. We had tried in the past and it never happened. So we quit trying and felt led to foster & adopt. When we pursued that and truly turned it over to God, we found out that we were pregnant. It was a bit of a surprise but we couldn't have been happier! Now we are praying for the next step in our lives... and I am ready for wherever He leads us! Turning it all over to God is scary- it takes out what our human fears and wants are, and only looks at what HIS plans are for our life! Hence, the quote above...

"Let your faith be bigger than your fear"

FAMILY-

My family rocks! And so do my friends & clients!! The amount of love and kindness that we have been shown this past month has been amazing! As our family grew to include Carter, life has been hectic!

My amazing hubby has been working extra hard to keep the household running smoothly- being self-employed rocks until you don't get a paid maternity leave :) So he has been working hard & taking on extra projects- did I mention how amazing he is?! Aside from work, he is an amazing dad! Carter sure loves his daddy!! And he is the best dad to Elisabeth as well- being a step-parent is not an easy job but he sure is great at it!

Elisabeth is awesome as well- with the new baby arriving and crazy life, we decided it was best to switch her to a different middle school this year. I was pretty nervous about it, but after loads of praying we did it, and it has been the best decision ever! I continue to pray about it- I don't think life is ever easy for a middle school student! She is still rocking it at cheerleading- I love her team this year! There are some great kids & coaches (& momma's!!) And she is an amazing big sister- such a big help! I miss her being here during the day while she's at school!

And Carter is growing by the minute! He is healthy, happy, and such a fun little dude! We are starting to see smiles, he's rolling over, and not sleeping nearly enough at night :) HAHA!! He recognizes voices now, he is eating really well (like really often, really well! I think his 2 month appointment will show a huge growth spurt!) He's very snuggly, and loves to be on his tummy!

The rest of our family is doing great too- my nephew just turned 1 (where has the past year gone?!?!!) and had a rockin' birthday party last weekend! My bro & sis-in-law are great!

My parents are loving having more grandkids! My sis is out of the country on another MSF trip. Pat's sis & the kids got to visit for awhile this summer which was awesome- and got to meet Carter! His parents are doing well and we went to visit his mom yesterday afternoon :)

FITNESS-

I've been asked several times when and if I'm going to start training again... the when is still up in the air, but I DO plan on training again! Trying to find the time to schedule classes is a bit more difficult than I had anticipated- once I am getting more sleep it will be a little more do-able. For now I am only taking on virtual clients, and I am so proud of each & every one of them! A lot of my bootcamp clients have switched to virtual training while I have been out, and have continued with their healthy lifestyle and working out! You guys ROCK!!! Having to be held accountable to me via texts, phone calls, Facebook, etc. might have been a pain in the you-know-what, but it works! I'm super-duper proud of you !!! I am still taking new clients as well- since it's 'virtual', you can be located anywhere!! Talk to me about getting healthy!

My personal fitness journey is still that... a journey! Trying to figure out what works around a newborn's schedule is pretty much a guessing game! I've been working out at home, occasionally at the gym with Pat & Elisabeth, and going on walks/hikes with Carter! I'm prepping meals ahead of time and eating pretty clean (mostly paleo, but with some grains still) and I'm seeing results! Slowly but surely! I still have a LONG way to go, but I know that I'll get there eventually! I had someone tell me that I'm 'not bouncing back very fast' - yep, seriously! I guess we aren't all celebrities that bounce back in a week! I'll get there, just give me some time! My main health priority is a healthy & happy little dude at the moment!

Today was a great workout- I feel SO much better after I get some exercise in!! I've been doing lots of walking and some weight training since I was feeling better after delivery (walking around a week, weights around 2 weeks) & this week I've added in some HIIT style workouts & jogging... Let me tell you, compared to pre-pregnancy I'm about as fast as a snail!! BUT I'm striving to get back in shape and not have any changes to my supply for Carter's food!! I can't wait to be able to increase my intensity, but I'm happy with my progress so far!

And for those that have asked- no way am I back to my pre-pregnancy size! I still have about 20 pounds to lose!! I want to be an encouragement to others that have little kiddos- you do what you can, when you can. Make healthy choices, walk, SLEEP (!!) Eat healthy, & take it slowly!

I'm still trying to work out the details for starting up Bootcamp & personal training sessions again- I'm still doing the virtual training sessions for anyone who is interested in that!! Once I'm not so sleep deprived and figure out babysitting, I will get the classes going again 😎👍👍

39 Weeks Prego-

Carter made his grand entrance on July 16th- weighing in at 8 lb's, 7 oz's, and 21.25" long, he was healthy & big!

He is now 3 weeks old, and we can't imagine life without him in it! He's doing great, starting to sleep better and he is nursing well! I had to cut out dairy products, but once we got that figured out he has been feeling much better!

We are all doing really well! I started working out (slowly to start!) and eating healthy- working my way back to my pre-prego weight! I am working on doing that in a healthy way because I don't want it to effect Carter or his food supply! I'm over halfway there - I'll try to keep this updated with progress reports!

Prego update :)

I have done quite an awful job at keeping this blog updated while I've been pregnant! It's been a crazy 9 months, but I'm hanging in there! I'm now a little over 36 weeks pregger's and expecting baby boy to arrive any time now... I went in to L&D last Thursday with contractions, but thankfully got to come back home! I've now been having contractions every 10 minutes or so for about a week (with a few breaks, thankfully!) but they said to wait to come back in until I am 5 minutes apart for over an hour, and I can't walk or talk! I have another appointment on Wednesday, so we'll see if I've made any more progress! FYI- my daughter was born at 36+6 and was perfectly healthy, so we aren't worried about him not being ready (and the fact that I had a scan almost 2 weeks ago and he was almost 7 pounds, and measured 40 weeks at 34 weeks... big boy!)

The room is ready to go, and me & daddy are as ready as we can be! He installed the car seat yesterday, and has been awesome with getting the room ready. He re-did another dresser and got everything hung on the walls that we have found while "thrifting" the past month (lots of old sports memorabilia, looks very cute!) I'll have to get some pictures posted of the room sometime! He did a fab job :)

My daughter won't be back home until July 1st from visiting her Dad & his family, so I'm hoping that she will make it in time :) Even if she misses the birth, she is going to be an awesome big sis!

Health & Fitness- I have done my best throughout this pregnancy! Not perfect by any means!! I've kept up with my workouts up until the past few weeks, where I had to take it easy. Lots of lifting and bootcamps until then, but the running was cut short around 32 weeks... I was contracting too much to run further than a few miles. Now I just walk- my belly is HUGE! and heavy!!! I have definitely gained more weight than I wanted to, but I guess that's just how my body does while prego! I haven't stuck with paleo perfectly, but I still eat pretty healthy, and compared to my not-quite-so-healthy first pregnancy 13 years ago, I'm still pretty much gaining the exact same way (not much for about 25 weeks, then BOOM!!! Big growth spurts!)

My advice to any pregnant mama is to just do what you can- keep moving if your doctor allows it, and eat healthier. Don't deprive yourself (I've had ice cream or SnoBiz a few times!) but keep in mind that your baby is eating what you eat :) You are going to gain weight, your body is going to change, and you're going to not love a lot of the changes! LOL!! It's part of it, and it's TOTALLY worth it!
Post-baby, I plan to nurse him and work my way up to my workouts again when it's allowed! I'll try to keep the blog updated with my post-partum workout updates! The main thing is that I'm healthy for my baby!

Blog update- Baby, family, life, work... :)

I haven't posted for a bit, so I thought that I would do an update!

I'm 27 weeks along now and getting bigger each day- our little man is growing quickly!
I had an OB appointment on Tuesday and I'm measuring a little big, so he has definitely hit a growth spurt! I start 2 week appointments now- time is flying!
I also have gained (pounds) at this point what I wanted to gain in the whole pregnancy... kind of frustrating! I eat healthy and still workout pretty intensely. I guess this guy just needs more space to grow! I'm just hoping that my healthy eating & exercise pay off after he arrives!
I failed my 1 hour glucose test. Talk about surprised!! After doing some research, I found that a lot of ladies that follow a paleo-type eating plan fail it. So I'm hoping that I pass the 3 hour test on Monday and I don't have to take any precautions for Gestational Diabetes! I'm definitely not looking forward to sitting there for 3 hours on Monday morning... I'm going through some book recommendations today to help pass the time!
They didn't find kidney stones! I have had some major back/kidney pain... I'm pretty good with pain, since I'm used to pushing my body to the limit with workouts. But this pain makes me stop & catch my breath. IT SUCKS! I'm very glad that it isn't kidney stones, but I wish it would go away! Driving or sitting for awhile (even through a meal) is a challenge!
I went to a chiropractor for the first time this week as well! I'm hoping that she can help with the back issues. She is also a natural doctor, so it was nice to talk to someone that is on the same wavelength as I am as regarding nutrition & exercise! I am back to all-paleo diet (except I can have steel cut oats, which I haven't tried yet) instead of part paleo with the occasional ice cream indulgence! If this helps then I will definitely keep it up!! It just stinks that it coincides with the opening of my favorite place- Pineapple Whip :) If you aren't from around here, you should visit in the summer just to try it out!
Baby boy still doesn't have a name. We do have a list made but it isn't narrowed down yet :)
He is VERY active these days! Right now, as I'm typing this, there is some type of kung-fu going on in my belly!
He has a bed and the room is starting to come together!
I'm still working out- once I got past the "sick phase" of the pregnancy the workouts were MUCH easier! Despite the big belly, I can still do most of the exercises and lifts. Running is getting more difficult- I need to try out one of the prego support bands to see if it helps! If you are prego & your doc okay's it, I HIGHLY recommend keeping up with your exercise routine!!
I made a lot of paleo foods yesterday. I know myself- if it's prepped and ready to go, I will eat it! So I cooked chicken & beef, boiled eggs, made some goodies that are paleo-approved, and went shopping for meat & fruits/veggies/nuts for easy, portable snacks!

Other than baby/prego updates, we have just been busy like normal! Pat has been blessed with business growing & great clients these past few months. Elisabeth is finishing up with this season of competitive cheerleading. Her last competition is this weekend! We had one a few weeks ago in St. Louis and it was a great weekend! We spent the weekend with part of her team & went shopping, to dinner, to City Museum (I skipped this!), the zoo... a great weekend full of memories! Here are a few pic's:

Work update- my clients are just amazing! My bootcamp's have been awesome & clients are getting results! I've also had an increase in virtual training clients. Not only are they getting good results, but they are getting REALLY good results! The personalized training plans are really working well for everyone and I am so glad to see that they are doing the work & taking the nutrition tips and applying them! Not only are they losing weight & inches, but they are feeling better and are able to enjoy life a little bit more!

Easy crockpot dinner, trial #1...

Thursday's are busy nights in the Ostergren household! I pick up E at 4:30 from school & head straight to the gym... she has cheer from 6-7:30, so we usually don't get home until 8ish. Today I'm trying to be prepared so we don't eat either a) 9pm dinner or b) takeout food after practice!

I didn't feel like going to the store, so I threw together stuff that I had on hand- you can add what you have! Also, you can throw in the chicken while it's still frozen!

1 package of Smart Chicken breasts (I think 1.5 lb's or so)
1 can of black beans
1 block of cream cheese (1/3 less fat)
1 can of diced tomatoes
1/4 cup of taco seasoning
1 small bag of frozen corn

It's all in the crockpot, so I'm hoping it turns out scrumptious & my kiddo eats it :) I'll serve it with tortillas or salad!

**You can make it healthier by eliminating the cream cheese & adding more veggies!

**Not a paleo recipe! You can make a few tweaks & make it paleo (no beans, corn, or cream cheese)

Decisions, decisions...

Being a parent is tough stuff! Trying to raise a child (especially a daughter, in my case) in our society is always challenging... you want them to know enough about the world to be strong & confident & able to handle themselves when you aren't around to protect them. But you also want to always be around to shield them from the awful stuff that goes on in our world! I don't know where the happy-medium is, nor am I an expert in parenting... I just go by my own experiences & pray for guidance :)

Decisions about school, extra-curricular activities, clothes, trips... watching them grow up & want more freedoms (boys- yikes!) - - it goes on & on! I'll just keep turning to God, and that would be my best advice for fellow parents as well!

It is COLD outside this morning! I didn't expect to head out to bootcamp at 5am and be greeted with a frozen car, snow, & freezing temp's! Where, oh where, did that warm spring weather go?!!

FAITH:

I didn't make it to church yesterday... I woke up after Sunday School had started! I'm going to look for a new devo book or plan online today since I finished the last one- any awesome suggestions?! Maybe something about being prego or being a momma...

FAMILY:

We had a pretty awesome weekend! Saturday we got stuff done around the house, I got grocery shopping done & dessert made, and we went to my Grandma's house for an early Easter get-together (hence the dessert!) Sunday was a pretty lazy day- E went to a cheer clinic & I was lazy most of the day :)

Baby O is doing well! He is moving around quite frequently now!! He still doesn't have a name, but he did get a few new clothes this weekend. We went to the Rhea Lana resale event in Springfield, and found some cute baby clothes! I still need to register, plan out the nursery, etc... but at least I got a few things accomplished!

FITNESS:

Workouts are going well! I've been keeping up with my workouts, usually 5 days a week... not as intense as they used to be, but I'm keeping up with the weight & just taking it a tad bit slower! This mornings workout was pretty awesome- I felt good afterwards!

Nutrition- going MUCH better now that I'm farther along! I definitely didn't eat very clean at the Easter dinner (who can pass up the yummy homemade foods that my family makes?!) but otherwise I'm doing pretty well! Example- breakfast today was 2 organic eggs, 1/2 avocado, and 2 slices of nitrate-free bacon (and a cup of coffee!) and I've already had a huge glass of water... fellow pregos- hang in there! Do what you can to be healthy for both yourself & the little one!

I like these little quotes- reasons to be healthy & exercise!

Being an example for my family, friends, & clients is a great reason to be healthy!!

I saw this on another pregnancy blog & I thought it would be fun! I have so many friends that are expecting this summer- I think several of us are going through similar prego circumstances with our bodies & food cravings!!

A is for age: 35. Yikes. And prego! I’m up for it though- this is the happiest that I’ve ever been in life J

B is for breakfast today: 2 eggs, bacon (YUM!), and coffee

C is for currently craving: Something sweet. That’s pretty much what I always crave this pregnancy. Rolos sound pretty amazing, but I shall resist!

D is for dinner tonight: I have no clue. I don’t love to cook even when I’m not pregnant, so now I have a good excuse! HAHA!! Last night I made a scrumptious salad (with chicken, olives, feta, & greek dressing- it was pretty amazing!)

E is for favorite type of exercise: I heart <3 my bootcamp classes! I’m still lifting (just not as heavy!) and running some. I also do the crossfitmom.com workouts- I love her stuff!! My big ‘ole belly is expanding at a rapid pace, so having modifications is necessary these days! Example- I can’t do hand-release pushup’s without squishing the little guy! Last nights class was pretty awesome- we did hang power snatches, push-up's, & pull-up's (modified for me- I can't do a regular pullup anymore- I'm too 'belly heavy' I think HAHA!- BOO!)

F is for a fave food: Sushi-- I. Love. Sushi. And since I don’t like the raw sashimi stuff anyway, I still have it every once in awhile (like last weekend- girls night with my awesome daughter! She loves it, too- I’ve trained her well!!)

G is for gross food: Lots of it is gross at the moment. Most every kind of meat. Actually it’s the SMELL of most of it more than the taste! Except for bacon, it is always good!!

H is for hometown: Springfield! I was born here, left for quite awhile, but realized that it’s where I want my kiddos to grow up!

I is for something important: God & Family.

J is for current favorite jam: Food jam- grape jelly! Song jam- I love the Mary J. Blige channel on Pandora. It has all of the good ones J

K is for karaoke: I love to watch people sing karaoke. Other people. Not myself! I have been known to sing a few times, but that doesn’t happen too often!

L is for luxe: I try to be pretty thrifty. That way I can buy more clothes (& shoes!) and not feel bad about it! I don’t skimp out on workout shoes- they are worth every penny!

M is for muffins: Banana chocolate chip paleo muffins. LOVE! Speaking of, I have some bananas that need to be used…

N is for something you need: an energy burst would be pretty amazing. Or a massage- my lower back just aches 24/7 these days!

O is for occupation: Personal trainer – mixed in with babysitter for my nephew a few days a week, chauffer for my daughter & her friends M-F, and wife!

P is for pet peeve: Mean people. Seriously, if you don’t have something nice to say then keep your trap SHUT!

Q is for a quote: I love quotes- I always post them as motivation for my clients, and right now I’m liking this one:

R is for running: I used to be a fast runner- state qualifier in high school cross country! Now I run for fun & health- it’s pretty awesome when you have one of those ‘great running days’… you could run forever and feel GOOD! Since being prego I’ve ran 2- 5k’s and both have been MUCH slower. I just take it easy & run a few miles on my good days- sometimes I’m walking more than running!

S is for favorite healthy snack: Fruit. I love it! Right now I’m into blueberries, mandarin oranges, strawberries, bananas, & apples (in no particular order!)

T is for favorite treat: Rocky Road ice cream. YUM!

U is for something that makes you unique: I have long toes! LOL!!

V is for favorite vegetable: sweet bell peppers have been a fave lately!

W is for today’s workout: It hasn’t happened yet- bootcamp at 6pm! If it gets warm I may go for a walk this afternoon with my nephew...

X is for X-rays you’ve had: feet, knees, legs, elbow, wrist… probably more!

Y is for yesterday’s highlight: I spent most of the day with the hubby, got flower seeds going with Elisabeth, had a fab workout with my bootcamp ladies, & dinner & the 'Bible' show with Pat, Elisabeth & Ryan last night! It was a great day!!

Z is for your time zoo…as in animal that I would HAVE to visit when I go: hippo J He rolled over last week while we were there & Elisabeth was pretty excited to see that! I'm glad that we have a little zoo locally, but I'm definitely looking forward to the STL Zoo next month (if the weather cooperates!)

Your baby now weighs about three-quarters of a pound and is approximately 10 1/2 inches long — the length of a carrot. You may soon feel like she's practicing martial arts as her initial fluttering movements turn into full-fledged kicks and nudges. In other developments, your baby's eyebrows and lids are present now, and if you're having a girl, her vagina has begun to form as well.

You're probably feeling pretty comfortable these days. You're not too big yet, and the usual discomforts associated with early pregnancy are, for the most part, gone. If you're feeling good, relax and enjoy it while you can — the third trimester may bring with it a new crop of complaints.

That's not to say you won't have some minor glitches to deal with now. For example, increased oil production may contribute to the development (or worsening) of acne. If that's the case, be diligent about washing well with a gentle soap or cleanser twice a day, and make sure that any moisturizer or make-up you use is oil-free. Don't take any oral acne medications — some are very hazardous during pregnancy — or use any topical acne products without first checking with your practitioner.

You're also more prone to varicose veins now. As your pregnancy progresses, there's increasing pressure on the veins in your legs; higher progesterone levels, which may cause the walls of your veins to relax, can make the problem worse. You're more likely to get varicose veins if other family members have them. Also, they tend to get worse with each successive pregnancy and as you age. To help prevent or minimize varicose veins, exercise daily, prop up your feet and legs whenever possible, sleep on your left side, and wear maternity support hose.

You may also notice so-called spider veins (a group of tiny blood vessels near the surface of your skin), particularly on your ankles, legs, or face. They may have a spider- or sunburst-like pattern with little branches radiating out from the center, they may look like the branches of a tree, or they may be a group of separate thin lines with no particular pattern. Though they may be a bit unsightly, spider veins don't cause discomfort and usually disappear after delivery.
