This stunning corridor of the 395 is part of Red Rock Canyon State Park and is a beautiful place to enjoy some time. It is difficult to see where the National Park ends and the National Forests begin, as the scenery is just as spectacular here as in the Park. Very remote in its location and within one mile of Camp Dick Campground, Peaceful Valley lives up to its name. Set alongside a stream and accessed via a bridge, the camp holds less than 20 campsites. Most of the sites are along the stream, but all sites offer spectacular views of the mountain walls that create this narrow valley. Pines and aspens dominate here, and campsites have picnic tables, tent pads, fire rings and gravel pads. There are restrooms available. This is a hard campground to rate, as there are two extremely opposite types of sites, and both have their advantages. Due to the pine beetle infestation, most trees in the C and D loops have been removed, which creates a more barren, meadow feel to the campsites, yet at the same time offer unobstructed views of the peaks. If you crave a more secluded, private site, than the sites in loops A and B might be your preference, as they are set amongst thickly wooded pines. Both the C/D loops and A/B loops are
The other camp, Sage Creek, is far more primitive and only accessible via a dirt road that often closes after heavy rains. Cedar Pass is definitely the choice for RVers. The camp has amazing views of the Badlands from all 96 sites. About half of the sites have electric hookups, which is nice during summer months when temperatures can approach the 90+ mark. July is the hottest month here, and late spring and early fall are the best times to come, as temperatures are more moderate. If you plan on heading to the Omaha area, make sure you stay for a minimum of 4 nights as there are TONS of activities within the boundaries of this park! The park is located about 30 miles south of Omaha, and 30 miles North of Lincoln along the I-80. Not only are campsites spacious, scenic and with partial or full hookups, but several lie along one of the many lakes or rivers within the park. Two campgrounds are available: Little Creek Campground and Lakeside Campground which both offer 30 and 50 amp hookups. Little Creek has showers and laundry facilities. Both camps are beautiful, offer spectacular scenery and wildlife viewing from
The grounds are meticulously kept, set amongst Wyoming grasslands, is convenient to the freeway, yet traffic noise is not noticed and has a friendly staff. Expansive views of the grasslands that make the Midwestern plains famous are available from almost every spot. Typical to the KOA system, cabins, tent sites and RV sites with full or partial hookups are available. RV sites are nicely spaced compared to some other KOAs we've visited, sites and interior roads are gravel and a pool, miniature golf course and small store are available to guests. Set on the outskirts of Cheyenne, this is a peaceful, clean place to spend a few days and I highly
