As an O Positive donor you are incredibly important to maintaining the blood supply in our community. O Positive is the most common blood type and therefore needed by so many patients.
Annually, more than 120,000 units of blood, platelets and plasma are required to meet the needs of the hospitals we serve, and your blood type is crucial to maintaining an adequate supply. We are grateful to you for so willingly giving the “gift of life”, and through your continued commitment, we are able to maintain our heritage of service to those in need. 1 in 3 people have O+ blood (approximately 37.4% of the population).

Definition of CMV-Negative Blood

The blood of a person who has never had CMV (cytomegalovirus) will test negative for antibodies to the infection and will be described as having CMV-negative blood. Interestingly, many people who contract CMV never know they have it.

Significance

Blood products that are CMV negative are important to patient populations that would be in particular danger if they contracted CMV. That includes transplant recipients, pregnant women and infants.

National Tragedies

My own avoidance from tragedies near misses by a gas tanker speeding on the highway at night. Signs depicting arrows move to the next lane right before the exit. However, the lane isn’t really close; earlier that morning it was. So I predict a tragedy from human error in the near future that is considered a “NATIONAL TRADEGY.”
