Panguni Uthiram and Kavadi

I saw a procession outside welingkars today, it was a tamil festival called panguni uthiram. It just stunned the people passing by due to the pearcing done by them on their body.
They were going to walk right upto antop hill. People who have kept a vow keep on joining the procession, they have some puja at shivaji park and later move towards antop hill.
The pearcing done is called kavadi.
The healing from pearcing takes 2-3 days. The mark remains on the face and body. Ther is some white powder put on the place where pearcing is done which comforts them.

It is celebrated in many countries around the world.

My trip to Diveagar

Recently we had been to not much know beautiful place called Diveagar. It is a village situated on the bank of the arabian sea. It is filled with coconut trees. Unlike alibaug beach which has lot of big stones which come rolling in the waves, the beach at diveagar is calm and there are hardly any stones rolling.

The entrance to this beach is one of its kind. There are beautiful lush green trees around and in the middle there is one small opening to the beach.
Water though seems muddy and black, it is due to the colour of the sand.
There is a Suvarna ganesha temple in the village.

We didnt had any location in mind just kept on asking the locals of the places we could go. We went to Dighi which is around 30km from here. There is a beautiful port being constructed at Dighi for majorly for exporting Ores.

From Dighi there is a direct motorised boat service to the Janjibar fort. But it runs only after it gets 40 passengers. If we need a special trip then we have to pay 1200 rs. So we were sad that we would not be able to visit the fort. We came to know later that there was a boat service to Rajpuri and from Rajpuri we can go to Janjibar on the cloth boat which runs every 15 min.
We had a good time at the fort. We experienced a good sales pitch by the boat driver cum guide.

The fort is beautiful and there is a logic in each and every construction of the fort. Here I realised that why small children should be accompanied with their parents under strict supervision while visiting such places. A small child in his own mood was running from windows to windows in the fort, when he suddenly realised that this window takes him directly into the sea 50 ft down.

We had a tough time while returning when our car was down in middle of no where. No network. Later we managed to call the mechanic to the site. Spend the entire day at the mechanic garage as the part was not available in the nearby town.
Later at the end of the day we were shocked to hear that the place where our car was down, was the place where maximum accidents took place.
There was a diya pinned on the tree at the site, we didnt realise it then, we said it is illogical, only later to find out from the mechanic.

We praised GOD for the safe journey when we reached home.

A beautiful place. A must visit once if tired from the regular places like matheran, mahabaleshwar.

But later i realised that typing BOLGSPOT instead of BLOGSPOT takes me to the Shaadi.com Site.

Piracy of movies has started hampering friendship----believe it or not

Recently I tried to convince my friends to watch a movie in a theatre so as to have a good time after a tough schedule, the movie was one week down. It was a fabulous movie.
A couple of friends immediately came with a reply that they have watched the movie on their lappy. So they had no interest in watching the movie. This led to splits among people who wanted to see and who didn't want to see the movie.
So we had two ways either half of go for the movie or we cancel the movie plan and go somewhere else.
But movie was too good to miss. But we missed watching in group.

MORAL of the story: Dont watch a pirated movie in the first week atleast so that u could have a good time with ur friends watching movie together and not being felt left out.
It will keep ur friendship intact.

I had just been for a day to visit a stall set up by my college frnd at price of wales, but i felt a day is not enough for the same.

Caricatures, bonsai, Wall paintings, social messages, cultural artwork from different parts of the country,Drama, fashion show ....the list goes on and on....

I had heard of it many times but realised the beauty once i saw....

The Tipping point MUMBAI

We constantly here people saying mumbai is getting populated, People from other states are coming to mumbai and causing various issues of space and supplies. There are various political parties which are banking on the same issue.
The fact remains that people who come from outside mumbai for earning some money, where do they come and stay in mumbai, cuffe parade? bandra? vile parle? gharkopar?
The ans is no. They come and stay at the outskirts of mumbai ie. kalyan, dombivali, ambarnath etc. Government is doing their bit by developing Navi mumbai.
These guys travel to mumbai for Jobs and then get back to their places.
So where does Tipping Point come into picture over here? As Malcolm Gladwell has given the example of shabby trains and policing at stations as one of the reason of increased crime in US. This problem was solved by just bringing about a small change of making the trains look good and solving the policing issue at stations. This small step solved the crime issue in US.
What I feel for Mumbai the issue is very basic.

I feel the 'TRAINS in MUMBAI' resposible for giving a negative picture about mumbai, that mumbai can't handle any more people. Thus giving the honourable political parties an agenda.
When do the migrated people travel to mumbai? It is either early morning while going to job or while returing to their homes after their job hours.
The fact is that the morning 3hrs form 8-11am and evening 4hrs from 7-10pm.
It is during this times the train which should run 12bogie runs for 9bogie many a times.
Also the frequency of the trains required to pick up the passenger is quite high during this hours, but the frequency at present is still not what is required.
The issue here is operations. The demand for trains on these hours is more and supply is less.
The number of people travelling after these hrs is normal.
The only change required is to manage these hours. These small changes would surely change the perception of people and it would help us in bringing about larger change in the society and Mumbai would belong to all.
