This latest article of Lead Guitar Lesson Online I want to focus on fretting hand stuff. Pro musicians Like pro athletes all like to warm up before they play. This may include anything from stretching and massaging their hands to playing certain scale patterns. For stretching and massaging your hand the pictures demonstrate how to stretch the webbing in between your fingers using your picking hands thumb and index. The next picture is supposed to show you how to massage and pull on them gently to loosen them up. after taking a minute or so with these sort of things shake your hand vigoursly and get the blood moving around. Now we would go on to play some exercises on the guitar. For this exercise, what I would like to do is get you started with, is training your fingers not to be leaving the fretboard! this is extremely important when playing fast and clean. If your fingers are leaving all the time you have a good chance on messing up the run and sounding sloppy, so get started right now on that so it won't be a hindrance down the road when you are playing much faster pieces. be sure and look and see what others say on the subject as well for more in depth information. The exercise below is intended for fingering distance. be sure to make sure your fingers don't move away from the fretboard over a inch. Another thing I would like to stress is if you are brand new to guitar after awhile your fingers will get sore. But the good news is its going to help your playing. Why because right now they are in the beginning stages of building up a caluses. So when we start on chords and progressions your fingers tips should be nice and hard to fret down the notes without your flesh just running over the string making it extremely difficult to sound anything out clean. After a short while you will be able to play longer periods of time without your fingers getting sore. I think that is why so many give up too soon. After awhile you will love the feeling of the strings beneath your finger tips. I think before we cut into any songs yet there is hordes more to to do. So next Lead Guitar Lesson Online will be on note names learning the fretboard. When we do get into the songs I will provide you with free backing tracks so you can play along. Very very important to be playing with something that is keeping time, whether its a metronome or backing tracks it will help you put everything together in the end and where it counts!

There even some excercises that you massage the palm of your hand with the knuckles of your other hand. Its jokeable! but it works! Be sure when fretting the notes in the next exercise that you fret the note just before the fret not back from it. Example say we are on the 6th string 5th fret that would be your E string if it is fretted at the 5th its a A note. But when you fret it aim to be as close to the right towards the 6th fret for full tone like just back from the 6th string fret wire. it makes sounding the note that much easier with little effort on your part. Continue to go up the fret board with this exercise just moving up 1 fret at a time continue what has been layed out already. keep as close to the fretboard as possible on your note changes.

For my first Lead Guitar Lesson Online I am going to show you where to begin when just learning to play guitar. First you are going to want to know how to hold the pick properly. The pick should be held lightly between the thumb and the first finger (index) as shown in the pictures below. The easiest way to find the correct way to hold a pick is to imagine it as an extension of your index finger’s nail. Ive used a clear pick so you can see how it rests on top of my index finger. Now rest your thumb. Okay now that we know how you should hold the pick where should you rest your hand. I think at first wherever you feel the most comfortable, keeping in mind that the closer to the bridge is going to sound sharper than picking up near the neck. But this is where I do most of mine. So gently rest your palm down on the strings as shown below. Next we want to start learning picking techniques. Here is one we call (alternate picking). This picking technique is commonly used when taking Heavy Metal Guitar Lessons and It involves picking the string down then up or vice versa. I use tabulature to show what notes are being played. There are lot of sites online that explain how to read tab. Here is the first set of notes which are all open strings to practice this picking technique. Practice this below going up and down the strings until your able to do it clean and fast. That is it for this lesson next week we will focus on your fretting hand technique. Hope you enjoyed this lesson. Keep in mind this is for beginners. In later

articles I will focus on more advanced guitar stuff and cover songs. But for now I just want to cover the important basics. Also when starting out it is good to check out a variety of different sites on whatever it is you are just learning. Some really can explain alot better than others. For instance you might not get what I am trying to show you, but others can tell you and you get it right away. So don't just take my word for it explore other sites on the subject. Frank Towns - Guitar Lessons Toronto
