 What you do has to feed you,but you must feed it first.

 If you can find something to really give yourself to

 everything else will find its natural place in your life.

 Education, internship, mentor, whatever - all these will

 find you once you find what you're here for."

Epiphany of the State of Search Engine Marketing

(Or Grokking)

Search Engine Marketing as we knew it is dead. Only most people even in the industry don't know it yet. In the public or the press, search engine marketing as we knew it, is the big new thing.

The challenge then is to educate clients about what search engine marketing is today.

The first thing is the name. It should be something like Internet or Web Marketing, Search Engines being one piece of the pie but no longer if ever the whole pie.

In other words search engine marketing as we knew it, as a marketing strategy by itself on the internet is no longer a viable business model for the internet.

It is like when gold was first discovered in say in California. At first it was easy to find the gold. As time went on it became harder to find and cost more time and money to find. New and different methods had to be developed to harvest the gold. Methods that were used in previous gold rushes and some new methods.

The development of the internet and search engines as we knew it, is akin to a new gold rush. Well the gold fields have matured and we can no longer pick the gold off the ground, you have to do more. That is to say with so many websites it is no longer easy or straight forward to rank well in a search engine for many common relevant keyword phrases. Why? Because 100, 200, 300++ other quality websites are also about your subject matter.

The cost for a local website like a local real estate agent to get to the top of that 100+++ pile and stay there is now to high, as the search engines change how they rank so much, that you need to able to hire someone to do search engine optimization placement for you full time, so they can immediately react to try to keep your placement as the search engines change how they rank, while the local real estate agent is sweating each day their leads have dried up.

Then one day your search engine expert comes to you with his epiphany and tells you search as we knew it, is dead. There are just too many relevant sites competing for the same top 10 positions. You have to use the internet in a new way, just as the gold harvester had to, after the easy gold was gone and the bigger companies had the best gold fields.

Now you have to build your business on the internet overtime as with opening up any storefront. You are literally opening up a new office in the virtual world. As in the non-virtual or bricks and mortar world it takes time to develop the business.

So how does a local real estate agent site compete against those 330+++ other relevant sites, some of which are much bigger national and regional sites? You could use Pay Per Click but those bigger players can easily outspend you. You could develop business relationships with those big players. Of course that is a lot of work and are they going to be interested in even talking to every small guy or if they do, do they treat you as just one more fish? What if you could pool your resources with other qualified real estate agents and develop business relationships with those big players as a group which then itself becomes a big player.

So your group of qualified real estate agents works on business relationships with big players to bring you leads that are not dependent on how your local real estate website ranks in the search engines. And because you are pooling resources you get more value for your marketing dollar.

Where might you find such a group? Number1Experts are just such a group. With Number1Experts you are a member of a marketing pool.

So you might ask what about search engine traffic direct to my local website is that really completely dead? No but it isn't something you can count on, it is just gravy. But remember it takes time to build a business virtual or otherwise. There is no magic bullet and if someone is trying to sell you one relative to search engines and/or web marketing steer clear. As your web presence overall increases this will have a positive effect on search engine placement but it takes months and years to develop, and it is always at the whim of the ever developing search engine ranking or placement technologies, which are striving to work more and more like the human brain. So there is going to be a lot more changes in search engines for a long time.

So don't think of search engine marketing, think of Internet or Web Marketing and search engines being a part of that. When you look at some marketing opportunity on the Internet don't think, how will this help me in search engines, think how will this help me in my overall Internet Marketing. If your Internet Marketing is only focused on search engine placement for your local website you are in big trouble.

Ecosia new search engine profits go to WWF WorldWildlifeFund

Ecosia the new search engine has its profits going to WWF World Wildlife Fund.
   Which is good and maybe a good way to attract Searchers (you and me) to use Ecosia rather than or in addition to Google.
   Though I came across Ecosia in this news story on 12/4/2009 titled, Microsoft (Bing) - Backed Green Search Engine Attacks Google  Quote "However, while the search site appears to have the highest of environmental aims, a video created to promote its launch is more partisan. The site is based on Microsoft's Bing search engine, and its video depicts Google investors as fat, cigar smoking figures while also criticising the search giant for the carbon intensity of its technology."
   Myself being one of those Google investors, I am not moved to use a Search Engine like Ecosia that depicts me as fat, cigar smoking, CO2 generator. Additionally Ecosia is depicting Fat people and cigar smokers as bad.
   The whole advertising angle strikes me as bad. Why go after Google, everyone loves Google and uses Google. Ecosia Tell me why you think Ecosia is better than Google. You have to be better than Google to draw people away from Google to Ecosia. But I guess Ecosia couldn't do better, so they are just attacking. Pardon me but that is just plain stupidity on Ecosia's part and on WWF World Wildlife Fund for endorsing Ecosia.
   Ecosia just don't bother.

H1N1 Swine Flu Report 17 days

I got the H1N1 Flu or Influenza Virus. Swine Flu from 11/14/2009 to 12/1/2009, The H1N1 Flu lasted 17 days. I was out of work for 2 weeks.
    On Friday 11/13/2009 I returned from a business trip to Las Vegas Nevada. While in Las Vegas for 5 days, I felt the ting of a sore throat on a couple of the mornings, but it quickly went away. Otherwise I felt good.
    On Saturday 11/14/2009 I felt an unusual sore throat just before going to bed. It was like something was caught in my throat but nothing was caught.
         On Sunday the full Flu symptoms started. Sore throat, cough, congested lungs, weak, sore muscles, sinus congestion in the upper sinuses only, above the eyes. This was most unpleasant and severe when I coughed, which of course was often. An intense pain across my forehead. I literally had to kneel down to cough to lesson the pain.
    I developed a fever which got higher over each day, on about the forth day the fever now at 100, became really uncomfortable so I took aspirin to break it. Hoping that it had done it’s job and killed the virus or at least weakened it. A lot of uncomfortableness and sweating as the fever broke. It did not return.
    I ate very little, and drank water and juices, took an expectorant, cough suppressant for the cough and to get the gunk out of my lungs. Some constipation as I wasn’t eating much. Once the constipation broke then mild diarrhea.
    Lots of sleeping and more sleeping and more sleeping. It was 13 days to recover to normal health after the fever broke. Muscles especially legs, were sore for many days. My appetite returned on about the 13th day. I lost 12 pounds, 4 of which returned after normal eating returned. My lungs where the last thing to fully recover.
    I returned to work on 12/1/2009, fully able to work. I feel overall even more well than I did before the flu. Seams to have cleaned things out.
    I am always a little concerned when I get something like the flu, because I am HIV+. Overtime my Immune system has recovered to normal levels with the help of HIV drugs and nutritional therapy. More on 29 years with HIV in another post.
    If you get the flu stay home and stay home at least 7 days after the fever breaks to avoid spreading the flu. All my family got the flu from my exposure, 1 almost as severe as mine the other 2 mild.
    I must have been exposed on the Las Vegas trip, plane flight, conference and hotels, but I don’t remember being around anyone who was obviously sick or coughing.
    Well that is my anecdotal 2 cents on the H1N1 flu. If you can, get the flu shot. Especially if you are under 24, have a major ongoing illness or are pregnant. Those groups are most vulnerable. Though reports are that those with HIV are not having any more serious flu than the general population.

I will be blogging regularly, at least once a week to start.
Why has GOFORTH Blog Awakened? In simplest terms I am ready and able to blog and I want to.
I blog about whatever I want to. Often tied to local or National or International news events.
My next post will be about my fun and games with the Flu for 17 days.
Then a belated piece for World Aids Day, December 1st. Something about my living with Hiv for 29 years, since 1980.

AT the 2005 SQL Conference in April Tim Oreilly (Tim O'Reilly is founder and CEO of O'Reilly Media, Inc)

( http://www.oreilly.com/ ) stated that he recently asked some Google Search programmers how long Google Search results would remain relevant if the programmers weren’t making changes every day. They said that within 24 hours spammy websites would be severely corrupting the results.
