It seems that everyone gets angry at a vending machine at some point in their life and shakes or kicks the thing for not delivering their soda after they deposited their money. Of course, shaking a soda machine is dangerous. In 2003, Reuters reported that more people are killed by vending machines each year than sharks.

Well a beer company in Argentina is hoping to capitalize on this universal by offering the first vending machine to dispense drinks when the machine is tackled.

An Urban Village Just for Teachers?

Developer Ron Beit and legendary architect Richard Meier are transforming downtown Newark, NJ with eight new buildings on four square blocks called Teachers Village. The community will include three charter schools, more than 200 affordable housing facilities for educators, a day care center, and space for retail stores and restaurants. Michael Duffy, former director of the NYC Department of Education’s Charter School Office, crows, “It puts the people who work in those schools at the heart of the equation, as opposed to just a movie theater, or restaurants, or some other kind of economic development activity.” The first building is expected to open in May 2013.

Does this make any sense to you, because it doesn’t to me.

Milk Jug Notifies You When Milk Goes Bad

What if you didn’t have to wait to taste the spoiled milk on your Cheerios in the morning to know your milk had gone bad? What if the milk jug could tell you itself? Now it can.

Called the Milkmaid, the clear glass jug monitors the pH balance of a liquid such as milk and sends the owner a text message indicating that the milk has spoiled. The base designed for the jug uses red and green indicator lights in order to alert the owner that the milk is good or bad when they open the fridge. The lights also offer a second visual indicator when the amount of milk in the jug drops.

In addition to helping the Milkmaid owner avoid drinking rotten milk, text messages are also sent when the jug is completely empty. This could be ideal to automatically alert the head of the household to pick up a quart of milk on the way home from work.

Pizza Vending Machine Coming to the US

Let’s Pizza, a vending machine that creates pizzas from scratch in 2.5 minutes, is about to plant a flag in U.S. soil. The machine was created by Italian Claudio Torghel and is distributed by A1 Concepts, based out of The Netherlands.

The machine’s presence has been growing throughout Europe since its launch about three years ago and A1 Concepts is now planning on opening a U.S. headquarters in the Atlanta area in the third quarter. Machine distribution is expected to follow at a brisk pace, with national companies already expressing interest in installation.

The History of the Paperclip

Most everyday objects — like the key, or the book, or the phone—evolve over time in incremental ways, and the 20th century in particular revolutionized, streamlined, or technologized the vast majority of the things you hold in your hand over the course of an average day. But if you could step into an office in 1895—walking past horse-drawn buses and rows of wooden telephone switchboard cabinets—you might find a perfectly recognizable, shiny silver paper clip sitting on a desk. What was then a brand-new technology is now, well over a century later, likely to be in the same place, ready to perform the same tasks. Why did the paper clip find its form so quickly, and why has it stuck with us for so long?

My favorite book about the paperclip and all kinds of other everyday items is The Evolution of Useful Things: How Everyday Artifacts-From Forks and Pins to Paper Clips and Zippers-Came to be as They are. I have a copy of the bookshelf next to me right now!

From Homeless to Cookies

For Jason Mercado, being laid off in the current recession couldn’t have come at a better time.

In less than a year, he has gone from laid off and homeless to a budding entrepreneur.

“I look at it as a blessing,” said Mercado, speaking of his erstwhile hard times and joblessness, as the big man towered over a Tribune reporter and photographer in his new cookie factory called “Just Cookies.” His new business is located at the Friend’s Meeting Center at 15th and Cherry streets in Philadelphia.

“Being laid off has given me a chance to focus on my dream,” said the 40-year-old former Jerseyite. He was once arrested and imprisoned for drug possession in Texas. Now, with those nine months behind him, he, at least, has been able move to a location near his family, though he is still down and out and homeless in Philadelphia at the city’s St. John’s Hospice, which provides temporary shelter for the city’s transients.

There is where the street chef landed after his layoff as a chef manager at Starbucks last July. Last week, with teens playing violins and other vendors selling their wares alongside his cookies, Mercado launched his new business. No longer just pie in the sky, “Just Cookies” from now on will be taking real orders from as many real clients as it can muster.

Even before the launch of his business on June 1, Mercado peddled his cookies on the streets to individuals and office clients. He has been known to receive orders of up to 24 dozen cookies at a time, reportedly delivering them on time and with satisfaction.

How to Sell Baseball Bats

Selling bats to MLB players isn’t like working in a sporting good store:

Like a fashion designer who gives Oscar-bound starlets free gowns, a bat salesman hands out free wares, eating the $70-to-$120 cost of a high-quality bat. (After the free trial, if the player orders a bat, they’re paid for by the ballclub).

But as he ventures into a locker room, Gregory says he hands out trial bats carefully. He tries to gauge players’ moods, and superstitions, about a tool considered so vital it is treated like an extension of their arms. Trout, the marketing consultant, says the superstitions make it an even trickier sale. “These guys have all sorts of hang-ups. Some won’t step on a line or they have a ritual about always hitting a base. Can you imagine how bad they are with their bats?

Gregory says he has seen players retire a bat after a few strikeouts or, even more mysteriously, after a home run. Some are so meticulous about their bats that they weigh them down to a fraction of an ounce. BWP and other bat makers customize everything from the curve of the grip to the size of the barrel to the finish on the wood.

Ideas Aren’t Important, Execution Is

Remember, it’s not the idea, it’s the execution that matters:

In fact, execution is probably one of the biggest competitive advantages that startups typically overlook. Investors would always rather have an "A" entrepreneur with a "B" idea than a "B' entrepreneur with an "A" idea. This is why investors always rate the management team as the key criteria they use to decide where to invest their funds. Ideas don't make profitable businesses. Management teams that successfully execute their ideas make all the money.

For example, a discount airline is not an innovative concept. Major companies such as United and Delta have tried to execute this many times. Only Southwest has figured out how to make a low-cost, point-to-point airline profitable. While the idea is not unique, the successful execution is rare. This is why "first-mover advantage" may not be an advantage at all. Competition is a valuable thing. Examining the successes and failures other people made with the same idea will always help execution.

Lemon’s Plan to Make Your Wallet Thinner

Lemon is a new mobile phone app that is designed to capture images of the credit, loyalty and membership cards in your wallet so that you can empty the thing out and leave them safely at home.

Cofounder Wences Casares tells Fast Company that the app is useful in a number of situations—including, say, while lying in bed and finding that you need to tap in a credit card number to perform an online purchase. But Casares noted that “once you have all this information in your phone, you find yourself reaching out for it even when you’ve not lost your wallet.” This could be the case, for instance, the next time you need to have your health insurance number at your doctor’s office.

Industrial Dry Food Cutting With Water

Water jets are a surprisingly efficient method of slicing, and they’re more hygienic than using a blade, which can harbor bacteria. This ultra high-pressure water jet forces a stream of drinking water between 15,000 psi to 90,000 psi, through an opening just 0.004 inches in diameter. Water streams through the opening at three times the speed of sound, according to Canadian company Paprima, which makes the water jets.

Movie Theaters to Offer More Than Movies

Hoping to reverse years of decline attendance at movies theaters, cineplexes across the country are increasing their offering of entertainment options beyond the typical Hollywood fare:

On a recent Saturday afternoon, a crowd of elderly patrons bought tickets to see Fabio Luisi conduct the Metropolitan Opera’s performance of Wagner’s “Twilight of the Gods” — at a movie theater in Burbank.

The show was among more than 40 special events shown in movie theaters in Los Angeles and around the country this year alone, including the National Theatre’s stage production “Frankenstein,” a live stage version of Ira Glass’ radio show “This American Life” and the boxing match betweenFloyd Mayweather Jr. and Miguel Cotto in May.

Along with improved food offerings, bigger screens and 3-D projections, theaters nationwide are programming more so-called alternative content. Hoping to reverse long-term declines in theater attendance by luring customers away from an increasing array of entertainment options in the home, they’re showing live rock concerts, plays, operas, boxing matches, college basketball games and even public radio shows, often to sold-out houses.

Russian Online Shopping Site Repackages Amazon Purchases

The fact that one of the fastest growing Russian online shopping sites is headquartered in Skokie, Illinois, probably says more about the realities of doing business in Russia than it does about the “World’s Largest Village,” as the Chicago burb fancies itself. But as BayRu’s rapid growth suggests, not being in Russia can be a big competitive advantage in some ways when it comes to doing business in Russia.

BayRu, named June’s “Startup of the Month” by the startup community Built In Chicago, basically acts as a middleman between online behemoths such as Amazon and eBay and Russian consumers. After an order is placed from the site’s massive catalogue, which features products from a bevy of American retailers, the item is shipped from, say, Amazon to BayRu’s warehouse in Skokie, where it’s re-packaged for shipping to Russia via carriers such as USPS, FedEx, and UPS.

Repackaging, the company has found, is crucial if orders are to survive the journey to the some 160 cities the company services in both Russia and former Soviet republics such as Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. “We’ve got five years of experience of how things get damaged, dropped, and wet,” says BayRu CEO Aaron Block. “How you package these things makes a big difference.”

Investing in Indie Winemakers

Naked Wines is an online retailer for wine. Visitors to the website can buy one or more bottles of wine or a monthly subscription. The $40 monthly subscription fee goes directly to new winemakers, and the customer receives a $40 credit for wine. Customers buying wine are essentially becoming wine angel investors. The store selections include champagne, white wine, red wine, rose and sparkling.

The fees help self-employed winemakers get started. In turn, members receive free bottle samples and earn a say in how wines should taste (in addition to their store credit). Winemakers take suggestions like "it has too much oak" or "needs more fruit" to heart.

Today in Entrepreneurial History: June 13

On this day in 1955 the Mir Mine, first diamond mine in the USSR, was discovered.

The honor of thus pleasing cranky old Stalin went to Yuri Khabardin, Ekaterina Elagina, and Viktor Avdeenko, who, while on an expedition, noticed that the ground under their feet contained kimberlite, a volcanic rock that proliferates in diamond-rich South Africa. And their hunch was correct. They were standing on very profitable ground.

Problem was, they were in Siberia, where it’s really, really cold. So cold, in fact, that the ground is frozen for seven months of the year. This would have been an unscalable obstacle for anyone but the Soviets.

The Mir (Russian for “peace”) mine went operational in 1957. Workers warmed up the permafrost with jet engines, and when that didn’t work (it’s very cold in Siberia), they dynamited it. By the 1960s they were extracting 10 million carats of diamond a year.

Inventors exist all over the world. Africa.com has compiled a list of inventors found within the country. This is just the first half of many innovative people featured.

Let us first visit Cameroon, where a group of 10-year old kids crafted a remote-controlled “car” from recycled products such as old flip-flops, pieces of wood, rubber, and cans.

In Kenya, … we have Mr Peterson Mwangi. With a passion for physics, he created a system that allows him to remotely control his car. Indeed, he is using simple SMS commands to move and even track his car by distance.

Mr. Simon Mwaura … created a system that controls different features in his house including, but not limited, to the opening and closing of the doors, the lights, the coffee machine, and more. The theory is simple: every feature is connected to a main system and accessed by a mobile call.

Now, two years later, the high school senior is preparing for his fourth fireworks selling season, has two operating stands, and plans to open a third at the end of the year.

“Success doesn’t just happen”, Jon said. “You have to make it happen through hard work and careful planning. Luck doesn’t enter into the deal at all!”.

Jon plans to use the fireworks business to help pay for his upcoming college expenses. “It’s a no-brainer”, Jon quipped, “Come back home in the summer and for Christmas, visit the folks, AND give another boost to my bank account! Life is good…”

Photographer Billy Hunt thought he had found a way to hack his portrait subjects’ awkwardness: a scream-activated photo booth.

“I’ve done a lot of portrait work and you can see the war in these people’s brains when you try to take their picture,” says Hunt. “People always want to present themselves in a certain way and they make it worse. Much much worse.”

Hunt’s Screamotron is a converted boom box that only takes a photo when you scream. There’s a business opportunity here, I’m sure.

Selling Frozen Food Online

If you’ve ever wondered about selling frozen food over the internet, this discussion at Reddit might answer some of your questions.

I ran a small food shipping operation four years or so ago until we went under. Shipping frozen food isn’t hard but it does require good insulation and dry ice. We used to buy dry ice in pre-packaged blocks from a distributor. I’d contact rncind.com out of Georgia for insulated shipping boxes that store folded flat, are mostly recyclable, and are more efficacious than the typical styrofoam shipping box so you’ll save on dry ice costs (both buying the ice as well as paying to ship the extra weight).

Be prepared for complaints about shipping costs. We charged our costs only without any mark-up for packaging, dry ice, or UPS/FedEx and people still complained. Those costs would obviously come down with sufficient volume.

Iraqi Restaurants Now Serving More American Food

Iraqi’s culinary tastes have changed since US tanks rolled into Baghdad in 2003, and one restaurant there is leading the charge:

Diners sitting at outdoor tables among the date palms would occasionally hear the sounds of rockets flying overhead, often aimed at the Green Zone on the other side of the Tigris River. The rockets, which sounded like a train roaring overhead, never fazed the neatly dressed waiters who maneuvered between tables balancing trays heaped with rice, kebabs, salads and grilled fish.

“The owner insisted we keep this restaurant open,” manager Haider Abbas says as he moves among the tables, shaking hands and chatting with customers.

Baghdad is more peaceful now, but Saysaban and other restaurants face a new challenge: changing Iraqi tastes.
Iraqis are increasingly seeking out Western or international cuisine when they go out to restaurants. Once cut off from the world, most households now have satellite television and Internet access, exposing Iraqis to Western eating habits.

The Six Year Old Candy Entrperneur

Little Mollie Price is a six year old candy entrepreneur, according to the Daily Mail.

She is now celebrating the launch of her third shop called ‘Mollie’s’ in the Welsh market town of Welshpool.

In recognition of her business achievements she has been declared one of the youngest entrepreneurs in the UK.

With the help of her mother Becky, she recently opened her third store in Shrewsbury's Pride Hill Shopping Centre to add to two existing branches on Welshpool High Street and in Newtown's Bear Lanes Shopping Centre.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Mollie is little more than the stores’ mascot. But there’s hope that she’ll grow up and put her early entrepreneurial training to good use.

The man’s face was pasty, his eyes closed as he lay back in bed waiting for a wave of nausea to pass. Dr. Elizabeth Ward bent over him after checking his temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen levels and finding that all were normal.

“Would you rather stay home or go to the hospital?” she asked Frank Blondin, 52, who suffers from severe rheumatoid arthritis and heart disease, and had a nasty diarrhea-inducing bacterial infection.

“Home,” Blondin responded, without hesitation.

Soon, the doctor was managing a “hospital at home” admission for Blondin — an arrangement allowing him to receive intensive care and medical monitoring in the quiet of his own bedroom. Medical supplies and medications would be delivered as soon as possible, she told Blondin’s wife, Pamela. A nurse would come within the hour, take laboratory samples, and return later that afternoon and in the days to come. Ward would check in by phone, visit daily, and help would be available 24/7 if required.

“Hospital at home” programs fundamentally refashion care for chronically ill patients who have acute medical problems — testing traditional notions of how services should be delivered when people become seriously ill. Only a handful of such initiatives exist, including the Albuquerque program, run by Presbyterian Healthcare Services, and programs in Portland, Ore., Honolulu, Boise, Idaho, and New Orleans offered through the Veterans Health Administration.

The Recirculating Shower

Taking a shower is a refreshing way to start the day, but much of the energy used to heat the water is wasted as the warm water flows off of you and down the drain. Recirculating showers seem like a great idea. They take the waste water from the bottom of the shower and shoot it back onto the top of you. They been attempted before, but always suffer from one problem: who wants to shower in their own filth? Popular Science has more on an invention that might just solve this problem.

In 2004, Peter Brewin, an industrial-design student at the Royal College of Art in London, set about creating a more efficient shower that doesn't require lower pressure. It couldn't just capture and recirculate the water; most countries require shower water to meet potable-water standards. So instead he designed a miniature treatment plant that continuously captures, cleans, and recirculates 70 percent of the water used during a shower. Even with the energy the system consumes, it still uses 40 to 70 percent less power because the system doesn't have to heat as much water. Over the course of a year, a typical household would use 20,000 to 32,000 fewer gallons of water with Brewin's system. That, in turn, would save a local treatment plant upward of 200 kilowatt-hours of energy.

Because other water-treatment processes are too slow for real-time recirculation, Brewin decided to use pasteurization, the quick heating and cooling method for purifying milk. Shower water is already about 106°F when it hits the drain. A heat exchanger and a small electric heater raise the temperature the extra 56 degrees needed to reach the pasteurization point of 162°. To filter out dirt particles, Brewin constructed a funnel that spins the water that flows into it. Centrifugal force flings the heavy undissolved particles to the edges, where they are washed down the drain.

On this day in 2007, Don Herbert, better known as Mr. Wizard, died.

Donald Jeffry Herbert (“Mr. Wizard”) (1917 – 2007) was the creator and host of Watch Mr. Wizard (1951–65, 1971–72) and of Mr. Wizard’s World (1983–90), which were educational television programs for children devoted to science and technology. He also produced many short video programs about science and authored several popular books about science for children. In his obituary, Bill Nye wrote, “Herbert’s techniques and performances helped create the United States’ first generation of homegrown rocket scientists just in time to respond to Sputnik. He sent us to the moon. He changed the world.”

I have to agree with Kim. Sometimes we do get in a slump when we haven't won
anything. But, I received a email from the Consumer Advisory Group Survey Panel
you mentioned a while ago and that I was a winner of their monthly drawing for a

Why Groupon’s Future May Lie in Healthcare

A quick look at the offers on daily deal sites like Groupon and Living Social might indicate that the dental industry is either in serious decline or currently over-saturated with new doctors.

As a practicing dentist myself, I know first-hand the difficulty that my practice and those of my peers faced when the recession hit. More and more Americans lack dental insurance within their health care plans. When it becomes necessary to cut costs, dental care is one of the first things to be neglected. Perhaps you decide to forgo your six-month cleaning, opting to wait for an annual check-up. When that rolls around, it’s easier to say ‘no’ a second time.

Dentists have been forced to respond with new methods of reaching new customers and engaging old ones. It’s not uncommon to find dentists with Facebook and Google+ pages designed to remind and maintain their clientele. They also lined up in droves to offer Groupon and Living Social deals.

Estimates show that about one out of every 11 Groupon deals currently offered are health care related. Only a year ago, the majority of these were for cosmetic, chiropractic, and acupuncture services. More traditional medical fields face additional ethical and legal measures, including state-by-state differences over whether or not a coupon constitutes an illegal kickback or referral. (The Mayo Clinic breaks down some of these discrepancies in a 2011 post.

Dentists, however, operate in a middle ground. Their services can be necessary (root canal, broken tooth), but are often also cosmetic or ‘optional.’ Groupons began to pop-up in 2011 for everything from exams to cleanings and x-rays to teeth whitening. In an ever competitive online landscape, these deals give local dentists added exposure and the chance to reach new clients that pay upfront, albeit at a steeply discounted rate after Groupon takes its cut of the generally half-off deals.

Even with the steep discount, the daily deals offer a perfect ‘foot in the door’ marketing technique for dentists. Unlike a restaurant, where daily deal shoppers may visit once, tip poorly and then never return, a new patient that has a comfortable experience at a doctor is more likely to return (and possibly bring their family).

Because switching dentists often requires new x-rays and preliminary processes, we’re more likely to remain faithful to one practice once we’re in their system.

Decline of the Daily Deal

Groupon’s recent woes have received plenty of public attention. After peaking at a stock price of $31.14 after its Initial Public Offering last fall, the company’s share values have dipped below $10 in recent weeks. Businesses put-off by the lack of repeat business generated by the deals have vowed never to offer products and services at such a steep discount again. Groupon has responded by launching a ‘Rewards’ program that saves more money for loyal customers.

That may be too little too late for restaurants, spas, and independent massage therapists who have already given away thousands of dollars of product at cost or below, but it’s welcome news for the health care industry.

Getting a new patient “into the system” is the first big step. Unlike other industries, health care professionals gather detailed contact information for every ‘customer’ they serve. It’s then up to the doctor or office to use this and stay in touch, sending reminders to come back for preventative care.

Facebook and Google+ are proving to be game-changers in this regard, as well. Mailing reminders and coupons has grown increasingly cost-prohibitive, and are often tossed away without being read. Dentists have offered discounts to patients who ‘Like’ their Facebook page, subscribing themselves to the practice’s updates. Developments like ‘+1s’ on Google+ are also making significant changes to search engine results, giving doctors an added motivation to network online. If someone in your Google address book likes a page, it will show up higher in your Google search results.

Health care professionals are no longer devoid of being able to ignore advertising. As families cut back budgets and more competitors enter the market, even services like dentistry that once ‘sold themselves’ require intelligent marketing. Health care is one industry where Groupon seems to still be a smart bet for drawing in new customers.

Worried about a zombie attack? Hornady, an American ammunition manufacturer has you covered with their Zombie Max ammunition.

Zahra Huber, of WWWJ Detroit, recently spoke to a company representative about the product and their marketing with zombies:

Company president Steve Hornady came up with the idea for Zombie Max bullets because of his love for zombie movies and shows.

"After it gained some acceptance among some of us here in the company got on board with the idea we decided just to have some fun with a marketing plan that would allow us to create some ammunition designed for that … fictional world," Deger said.

He said the Zombie Max and Z-Max bullets are Hornady's most successful products.

"This is probably one of the only (product) launches that we've seen when people who are not in the hunting and shooting industry will go out and they will purchase this," Deger said.

"I mean, I've heard of guys who buy it just because they think the packaging is cool and they set it on their cube and they don't even own a gun," he said. "It has that sort of cross-market appeal, which I think is rare to find these days, where you can actually sell something that will transcend not just one market but go into several."

The goal of these tests is not just to collect customer data or get a “pass” on the test.

It’s something more profound and intangible: entrepreneurial insight. Did anyone end your sales call by saying, “Too bad you don’t sell x, because we could use a ton of those”? That’s the kind of feedback you’re looking for.

We don't know what Subway ever did to Pizza Hut, but the quirky pizza chain is attempting a "takeover" of the sandwich giant's market with its new P'Zolo concept.

Pizza Hut? Making a sandwich? Coming from the company that has ringed its crusts with mini-cheeseburgers and stuffed them with hot dogs, it's not really a stretch.

The chain's new product, officially launched this week, comes in Meat Trio, Italian Steak and Buffalo Chicken and looks like a cross between a sub, a roll and a Costco-style chicken bake. Each comes with either ranch or marinara dipping sauce and sell for $3 ($5 for two).

Pizza Hut's bid for sandwich domination involves transforming a pair of Chicago Red Line subway trains into giant P'Zolos and handing out freebies to passengers on Thursday. They're calling it — natch — a "Subway Takeover."

20 Marketing Lessons from Pixar

Pixar, makers of Toy Story, Cars and WALL-E, story artist Emma Coats has been tweeting a series of guidelines she’s learned at Pixar for creating compelling stories. I’m sure that you’ll find some of them useful in your marketing.

You admire a character for trying more than for their successes.
You gotta keep in mind what's interesting to you as an audience, not what's fun to do as a writer. They can be v. different.
Trying for theme is important, but you won't see what the story is actually about til you're at the end of it. Now rewrite.
Once upon a time there was _ . Every day, _ . One day _ . Because of that, _ . Because of that, _ . Until finally _ .
Simplify. Focus. Combine characters. Hop over detours. You'll feel like you're losing valuable stuff but it sets you free.
What is your character good at, comfortable with? Throw the polar opposite at them. Challenge them. How do they deal?
Come up with your ending before you figure out your middle. Seriously. Endings are hard, get yours working up front.
Finish your story, let go even if it's not perfect. In an ideal world you have both, but move on. Do better next time.
When you're stuck, make a list of what WOULDN'T happen next. Lots of times the material to get you unstuck will show up.
Pull apart the stories you like. What you like in them is a part of you; you've got to recognize it before you can use it.
Putting it on paper lets you start fixing it. If it stays in your head, a perfect idea, you'll never share it with anyone.
Discount the 1st thing that comes to mind. And the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th – get the obvious out of the way. Surprise yourself.
Give your characters opinions. Passive/malleable might seem likable to you as you write, but it's poison to the audience.
Why must you tell THIS story? What's the belief burning within you that your story feeds off of? That's the heart of it.
If you were your character, in this situation, how would you feel? Honesty lends credibility to unbelievable situations.
What are the stakes? Give us reason to root for the character. What happens if they don't succeed? Stack the odds against.
No work is ever wasted. If it's not working, let go and move on – it'll come back around to be useful later.
You have to know yourself: the difference between doing your best & fussing. Story is testing, not refining.
Coincidences to get characters into trouble are great; coincidences to get them out of it are cheating.
Exercise: take the building blocks of a movie you dislike. How d'you rearrange them into what you DO like?
You gotta identify with your situation/characters, can't just write 'cool'. What would make YOU act that way?
What's the essence of your story? Most economical telling of it? If you know that, you can build out from there.

Creativity can be defined by a great many things. Some will say creativity is originality, idea generation, critical thinking, and even bravery. When we peel back the many layers of creativity, we are left with the heart: originality.

Originality can be intimidating. Many Expert Authors may feel as though they're attempting to find another piece of land to stake as their own, but everything has already been identified or claimed. So, how do you incorporate originality into content when A, B, and C has already been claimed?

You write what you know to ensure 100% authenticity and originality. Writing what you know is about unlocking your experiences, adding a personal twist, and creating something new that holds great value to others. Your audience still demands A, B, and C, but you need to light the way - you need a spark. Your contribution to your niche (your experience, insights, examples, scenarios, etc.) adds an ingenious spark to your content to light the way for readers.

If you're thinking: "Hold up! What if I don't have many experiences or insights to write what I know?"

What you know isn't limited to a play-by-play of situations you've encountered. You can discover and apply what you know by considering the following during your brainstorming sessions:

Resources: What resources or information do you already have on the topic? Having knowledge or first-hand experience provides your articles with a solid foundation.
Critical Thinking: What are your own assumptions (past and present) as well as your audience's and your peers' assumptions on the topic? Considering assumptions by proving/disproving them helps you break away from the norm and assess the topic in a new light.
Imagination: What new ideas form regarding this topic (e.g. solutions, growth, etc.)? Your creativity to build up from the foundation sets you apart from other experts in your niche.
Response: What is your emotional response to the topic (e.g. desire, happiness, anxiety, etc.)? Recognizing and conveying your response helps you be sensitive to how readers approach your topic as well as builds trust.

Reap the many benefits of creativity and originality by writing what you know. In doing so, you will provide 100% original content and strengthen your platform as a leading expert. In turn, you will cultivate trust and foster loyalty with your audience, which will build exposure to you, your message, and your brand.

This stock now looks like it's bottomed out and set to bounce.

We figured this was the perfect time to reintroduce this company.

Our alert for Monday is American Liberty Petroleum, Inc., OREO, and the stock closed Friday at 35 cents.

Here's some information to get you started:

OREO is an oil and gas exploration company.

OREO has a couple prospects that, if they turn out like the company thinks they could, would turn OREO into a major player overnight.

OREO's Gabbs Valley Prospect is situated on the Cobble Cuesta Structure which according to the company is estimated to contain over 4 billion barrels of oil!!

That number is huge but even if this discovery held only a tiny fraction of that number OREO would be a HUGE success.

Not only that, but OREO already has a signed contract from Foreland Refining Corporation stating that they will buy all of OREO's crude oil production from the Gabbs Valley Prospect.
In fact OREO announced last week that in May it began shipping barrels of crude.

OREO also holds a 75% interest in the Kibby Flat Prospect which contains an estimated 669 million barrels of oil.

That means, OREO is sitting on an estimated 4.6 billion barrels of oil at the current price of about $93 per barrel. That's a potential $427 billion dollars in estimated reserves.

Now remember, even though we know the odds of OREO actually delivering these numbers is very small, it is still possible and so investors are out snapping up shares just in case they do.

Often times these oil and gas companies are the most profitable while in the exploration phases because the sky's the limit on potential. Human nature drives investors to bid up shares because no one wants to be the guy that missed the boat.

That, along with the unbelievable potential that OREO claims to have puts OREO right in the spotlight. Numbers like 4.6 billion barrels are simply too big to be ignored.

We're not saying we think it will hit the target, but you can imagine how investors will be excited to hear about this.

OREO currently looks oversold here, and to be sitting at a bottom. It seems like a good opportunity to get involved with OREO.

position, and take profits when you are in a position to do so.

Google Maps Going 3D

Soon you will be able to search through a city using an aerial view. That search will be in 3D if you’re using Google Maps, reports CNet.

Both Google and Apple now have technology to create 3D maps that include buildings. Neither has rolled the product out yet. Today at Google’s San Francisco office, we saw Google demonstrate its new 3D mapping product that will use its own library of aerial imagery to build fully-modeled 3D cities.

The ability to fly through a city and see all its buildings and trees as if you were “flying in your own private helicopter” is incredibly cool. In the demo we saw, most buildings looked close to photorealistic, although some (in particular the AT&T ballpark), had strange artifacts showing.

This 3D feature would be a great spiff for Android users and a great reason for iPhone users to download a new Google Maps app for that platform. Except for one thing: Very soon, this won’t be a unique feature. Apple bought C3 Technologies in October, and that company does exactly what the new 3D feature in Google Maps does: It turns aerial photos into 3D models.

Trends: Tablets Are Booming

If you want to make money, you need to be where the trends are at. According to PCMag.com, tablet use has exploded. What opportunities are there for you?

The data measurement company found that smartphone adoption has exploded, with nearly one in four smartphone owners (or 23.6 percent) also using tablets during the three-month period ending this April. A year prior, just 9.7 percent of smartphone owners also used tablets.

“Tablets are one of the most rapidly adopted consumer technologies in history and are poised to fundamentally disrupt the way people engage with the digital world both on-the-go and perhaps most notably, in the home,” Mark Donovan, comScore’s senior vice president of mobile, said in a statement. “It’s not surprising to see that once consumers get their hands on their first tablet, they are using them for any number of media habits including TV viewing.”
