New Beauty Routine - Sunday Riley

It seems to be about this time every year that I make a few changes in my beauty routine. Maybe it is the changes in the weather or bit of time to go shopping in the beauty department over spring break? I'm not exactly sure but I like to mix it up as spring approaches.

On a whim, I bought some amazing products from Sunday Riley a couple of weeks ago. The bold packaging caught my eye and the quick and capable sales gal gave me the extra boost I needed to make the purchase while out shopping my my mother.

I have fallen in love - head over heels - with this line which is a cult favorite. It is famous for it's all-natural but hard working ingredients that truly do give immediate results. I hope you will give it a try!

I first use the wonderful Blue Moon Cleansing Balm to cleanse my skin and remove makeup. (I love a cleansing balm - use it on dry skin and wipe off with a warm wet washcloth - no mess from splashing and it can be used to remove eye makeup!)

I follow that with the Martian Mattifying Toner (applied with a cotton round and so fabulous on my oily skin), Good Genes Lactic Acid Treatment and Tidal Enzyme Water Cream (only when I need it!).

KSW Travels: New York with the Kids!

We had an amazing weekend in New York with the children last week! What a blast!

There is so much to do in NYC so the key is to whittle it down to your favorites and tackle them by neighborhood. We focused on the Upper East Side and Mid-Town on this trip.

Here is a little run down with our highlights:

Saturday Morning: After breakfast at the St. Regis Hotel, we wandered through the Central Park Zoo. On the way there, the children loved stomping on the leftover snow and seeing Trump Tower! The weather was gorgeous so we had a blast visiting the animals in the zoo. They have a fantastic 4D Theatre and a petting zoo! The zoo is quite small and manageable. It is the perfect size for a leisurely morning adventure.

Saturday Afternoon: I couldn't wait to treat the little ones to lunch at the very place my parents always took my siblings and I growing up, Nello on Madison Avenue. They loved the pasta, just like I did at their age. After lunch we wandered past some stores on the way to Smythson to get dad a new diary. On the way, we window shopped, talked about what life is like for those children who live in the NYC townhouses and apartments we passed and checked out the sports memorabilia at Heritage Auction Gallery!

Lunch at Nello - the food was amazing but capturing these joyful moments between these two is tops!

This smaller replica of the Statue of Liberty got them super excited!

Saturday Evening: We topped off our Saturday with the amazing Gazillion Bubbles Show. My expectations were not high but I must say this show was such a treat for the entire family! They don't allow photographs during the show but they do during the finale which was like a being at a rave for kids (not that I have ever been to a rave but that is what I imagine!) I highly recommend the show!

Sunday morning: We stopped into the newly renovated St. Patricks Cathedral to take in the majestic decor and listen to some of the beautiful hymns from the Sunday morning mass. What a joy! A ride around the Central Park Carousel helped the children burn time before the Eloise Brunch at The Plaza. As you can see from her smile, Millie loved posing under the portrait of Eloise. She loves posing anywhere actually but this was extra special! ;)

Sunday Afternoon: Our Eloise Tea at The Plaza was filling enough to serve as a brunch so we skipped back to the park to have fulfill JR's request to have their portraits drawn. I couldn't believe he wanted to sit there for 20 minutes but we did! We didn't take a lot of time to look at the artists offering their services but we got lucky with the talented gentleman. He was really able to capture JR and was very patient with my wiggly Millie!

Sunday Evening: I had to go to work to get my segment set up for TODAY so Justin treated the kids to a skate around Rockefeller Center Rink. We were excited to learn that there is a VIP entrance to skate with a short wait and hot chocolate and cookies! It was totally worth the additional fee! An early room service dinner back at the hotel was in order as the little ones had an early call time the next the morning!

Monday Morning: It was such a treat to take my kids and husband to work with me at TODAY show. JR went with me many years ago but this time was special because they both got to be a part of my segment with me! I was nervous but they were great! Slumber Party Popcorn Bar

My sister and I love to get our little ones together. The tots are only five weeks apart so planning fun playdates is a blast! When she suggested that we have a little slumber party as a Valentine's Day celebration, she said that she would provide the PJs if I could come up with a project to keep them busy!

I settled on a simple popcorn bar that would satisfy their need for sweets, my love of savory and keep them busy with something fun to create (that doesn't create a mess!) I set out a big bowl of buttered popcorn, a bunch of brown paper lunch sacks decorated with paper doily hearts and a few little dishes full of candy on a table in Kari's room.

Before the cartoons started, we changed into our darling new jammies from Charmajesty. Can you handle how cute they are? (My sister is the US Ambassador for the brand so you can check out her blog for a discount code or email her at kari@jojomommy.com to order!)

Then I helped the little ones each fill a bag with popcorn.

They added the toppings they wanted to the bag before I rolled up the tops and let them have fun shaking them to mix the toppings and the popcorn together! Click here to check out this precious video of them shaking it up!

I put out all sorts of red and white candies, m and ms, red hots, conversation hearts, shredded coconut, chocolate chips and peanuts (my favorite mix!)

When they were done with the mix, I rolled down the top and we settled in for some screen time!

The cartoons were followed by a pillow fight but, don't worry, they made up after battle with big hugs.

so Kari and I hugged it out too!

I just love Christmas! If you are anything like me you have nutcrackers on your mantle, stockings hung at every chimney, and a nativity by your front door. I put away my every day china and pull out my Spode Christmas Tree China to use for the season. I burn holiday candles every day and decorate every inch of the house.

But then Boxing Day rolls around and I have to admit that I kind of look forward to putting it all away and starting fresh! I love boxing up the stockings and decorations and carefully packing them away to pull out again next year.

I have so many sentimental decorations - like the snowman made of terry cloth from my childhood to the creche that my parents gave us the first Christmas that we were married. They mean a lot to me and they are not easily replaced!

I asked my grandmother to needlepoint stockings for my children but her eyes were bothered by the canvases I took to her so she taught me to do it instead. I made both of these stockings for my little ones so it is important to me that they are stored properly when they aren't hung!

A Christmas Children's Table for Chick-Fil-A

One of my favorite parts of the Christmas Season is watching the joy and amazement on the faces of my little ones. It inspires me to want to set a festive and fun table for their Christmas Dinner too!

Of course they especially love the sweets so when I partnered with Chick-Fil-A to bring you a holiday table, I looked to peppermint and gingerbread for inspiration!

I used fringing shears to add a little bit of a fringe detail (inspired by my Halo Home at KSW fringe linens that will be on the more formal grown up table!)

I put the gingerbread houses that the children made earlier this December in the middle of the table surrounded my faux snow for a centerpiece the little ones could be proud of helping with! (I used store bought gingerbread village kits and threw out the candies that came with it. I only set out red and white candies for them for a more unified look.)

A roll of faux bois (wood grain) wrapping paper was cut down to make paper placemats that could easily be picked up and thrown away at the end of the meal.

To mark each child's seat, I added their first initial to our favorite gingersnap cookies. The children loved looking for their letter!

Shopping for my nine year old son has gotten so so hard this year! He asked Santa for money to buy baseball cards so I'm going to have to get creative and find some things that he doesn't even know he wants!

This Fatboy Lamzac is the coolest and perfect for camping or hanging out! It can be folded down into a small pouch and then you just scoop up air to fill it up! So cool!

Baseball Cards are the only things on JR's list!

I think JR will love these Monogrammed Nike Sneakers. They can be completely customized!

A friend of mine told me about the Anki Overdrive set of remote control cars that are operated by iPhone or iPad.

JR doesn't like to have to pull sweaters over his head so this zip up NorthFace Jacket will be perfectly cozy for him.

Because he has to take a Water Bottle to school every day, he loves to get new ones!

We love these big National Geographic books and the Brain Games Book will be a great addition to his collection.

Because he is asking for money, I thought maybe a kid-friendly Safe would be a good idea!

I hear that these LongBoards are loads of fun. Don't forget to get the pads and helmet to go with it!

He loves filling my cart on Amazon so I think he would enjoy an Amazon Gift Card!

Holiday Tablescaping with Target

Oh what fun it was to tablescape with Target! I was thrilled to be challenged by the Target team to create a holiday table under $200 using fantastic finds from their website and stores!

When I set eyes on this cheerful shatterproof ornament tree, I knew that I had found the perfect centerpiece and inspiration for the rest of my table! I loved the colors, the classic ornaments and, of course, the touches of glitter! To add a bit of drama, I perched the tree up on a three tiered pedestal/cake stand for height. This is such a great purchase for anyone who likes to entertain. It is so versatile and comes in so handy when serving food as well! I added extra individual ornaments to the other levels and surrounded it with a "wreath" of flowers.

To spread the nostalgic cheer to each place setting, we added these confetti plates (which look like they are covered in shattered peppermints!) and these charming Vintage Santa melamine plates.

Brightly colored bottle brush trees and ornament place cards tied to the napkins (that, of course, I had to monogram!) topped off each seat.

I couldn't resist throwing these charming pom pom blankets over the back of each chair as well!

After peeking at the tablescapes, we enjoyed a wonderful meal at a long dramatic table set down the center of the room.

What was the occasion? We gathered at The Joule Hotel to honor the amazing work of the Just Keep Livin Foundation, founded by Mathew McConaughey and Camilla Alves. JKLivin is an organization that provides a safe place for unsupervised students to gather after school, make new friends, stay positive and stay safe.

But I wan't the only one asked to create a tablescape from Target. Camilla Alves, who spoke so sincerely about the work the foundation is doing at the dinner, created a charming and playful table with a woodsy feel.

The talented and always chic Judy Aldridge of Atlantis Home created this charming and fresh table inspired her amazing home's holiday decor. (You have to check it out!)

My talented friend, Camille Styles, came up from Austin to style this gorgeous and fresh table with glimmers of gold and surprising pops of oranges in the centerpiece.

One of Dallas' most charming style bloggers, Amy Havins, of Dallas Wardrobe delighted with this charming and cheerful set up. I loved the candy cane place card holders!

Christmas Citrus Punch

I'm thrilled to share my tips for an easy and affordable holiday dessert buffet on Good Morning Texas this morning (click here to watch!) Here is the Punch Recipe I promised on the air!

Christmas Citrus Punch

3 cups of fresh squeezed orange juice

2 cups of fresh squeezed ruby red grapefruit juice

¼ cup pomegranate juice

3 cups citrus soda (7-up or Sprite)

orange slices for garnish

cinnamon sticks for garnish

Combine juices in a large serving bowl and chill in refrigerator for at least one hour. Just before serving, add sparking soda and garnish with orange slices and cinnamon sticks.

Winter Wonderland

I am excited to share my next Chick-fil-A tablescape! I tried to create a table theme that would work for any winter celebration with the little ones. Thanks to Elsa and Anna of Frozen fame, my daughter is as much into blue and silver as my son so this color scheme seemed to be a great place to start!

I covered the top of the child-size table with silver wrapping paper and taped down the edges. Not only was it shiny and pretty but it was also easy to clean up!

I took a silver paint pen and drew a tic-tac-toe grid at every corner of the table right on to the wrapping paper and provided a little bowl of buttons for the children to use as their game pieces. No-mess-fun was the goal and when the buttons and table cover were dirty after the meal, they went right into the trash without a worry!

I used pipe-cleaners and little silver jingle bells to make some napkin rings. They added a little bit of sparkle and spirit to the table as the children sat down. I simply made a circle the size of a napkin ring from a silver pipe cleaner and added shorter strands to make a star/snowflake inspired shape. When I was finished making the shape, I added bells the ends by wrapping the pipe cleaner around the insert of the bell. No mess or glue or anything!

A little shot of glittery spray paint to some old white bottle brush trees made for an easy centerpiece! The base of white faux-snow finished off the look and will make the children feel that their table is as special as the adult table!

My mom makes an amazing Brandy Alexander! If you haven't had one before, you need to make some and if you have, you should try my mother's recipe! It is an indulgence for sure! It is a great night-cap or perfect for a dessert party which my husband and I love to host during the busy holiday season.

1/4 cup Creme de Cacao

1/3 cup Brandy

1/2 cup Skim Milk

4 scoops of Vanilla Ice Cream

Large scoop of Ice

Mix on high in a blender until smooth

Garnish with cinnamon

My mom has been making these for years and makes them all year long. She serves them on the beach in the summer and in the winter for a snowy winter indulgence. I hope you will make them this holiday season too!
