Windows Live Essentials Tool for Your Desktop

In November, Microsoft released a major update to its Windows Live online services. Today, Microsoft also released the new versions of its Windows Live Essentials desktop tools that accompany the online services. The Windows Live Essentials suite includes updates for Live Mail, Live Messenger, Live Writer, Live Photo Gallery, Live Movie Maker, Live Toolbar, Office Outlook Connector, and Windows Live Family Safety. There are also a two new additions: Windows Live Sync and the Office Live Add-In. Silverlight is now also part of the Live Essentials suite.

Connecting the Desktop to the Cloud :
All of these applications are meant to complement the Windows Live online experience and work closely together. You can, for example, use Windows Live Sync to keep your online and offline photo albums in sync. Live Sync has replaced FolderShare and allows you to sync any kind of file to the 25GB of space that Microsoft's SkyDrive online storage service now offers.
We tested the new versions of the Live Essentials for the last few weeks and all of them represent a major update to the older versions.
Even if you don't typically use the Microsoft's Live services, installing the Live Photo Gallery, for example, is well worth a try thanks to its seamless integration with Live Photos and SkyDrive. This new version compares quite well with Google's Picasa 3 and also lets you upload photos to Flickr. Photo Gallery also ties in with other Microsoft tools like Auto Collage or PhotoSynth.
Windows Live Writer, on the other hand, is more of an evolutionary update, but it is the favorite blogging client for a lot of us Windows users here at RWW and the update makes handling media files a lot easier.
Also worth a look are the enhanced Live Toolbar and the Windows Live Messenger, which has received a major facelift. The Live Toolbar (IE only) now displays your updates from the Windows Live online services, including new messages and pictures from friends. You can also use the toolbar to sync your IE7 and 8 bookmarks between different computers.

Software Plus Services :
The real selling point for the Live Essentials suite, however, is how well all the apps play together, both online and offline. Live Photos, for example, can use your Live Messenger and Hotmail contact lists for tagging faces, or the Live Messenger connecting to your status updates on your Live Profile page. The one Live Service that has remained behind, though, is Live Mesh, which seems to be on its own development track. We assume, however, that it will be merged into the Live services at some point.

Simple Trick to speedup your Firefox

THIS IS A VERY SIMPLE TRICK. NO SOFTWARE REQUIRED.

1. Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit enter. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

2. Alter the entries as follows:
Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"
set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

Softbank's 823SF Tiffany diamond handset for $130,265

Japan's Softbank Mobile unveiled a line of luxury mobile phones which have been encrusted with diamonds, and Softbank has said they will sell a limited run of just ten mobile phones each studded with 537 diamonds from Tiffany & Co with a total weight of 18.34 carats.

The company has launched ten limited-edition Tiffany phones at a whopping price tag of 12.98 million yen ($130,265). Of these, eight limited-edition phones were sold out in just three days.
Japan is the world's largest market for luxury goods and nearly everyone owns a cellphone, leading fashion companies to try to tap into the mobile market.

How to find email contacts in Orkut

As Orkut saying in Orkut Help Centre you can use the 'Find friends' feature to import your email contact list from Gmail and other email services (Hotmail, AOL, rediff.com, and mail.ru), to see who's already on orkut. You can also invite any of your email contacts to join orkut if they haven't yet.
To see who in your contact list already uses orkut, follow these steps:

1. Go to the 'my friends' section on the right-side of your orkut profile or homepage.
2. Click view all.
3. Click the find more friends >> link at the top-right of the page.
4. To find your Gmail contacts, simply click the find friends button. If you want to import contacts from another email account, enter your email address and password for that account, and then click find friends. You'll then see your email contacts who are already on orkut, but aren't in your friends list.
5. Select the people you'd like to add as friends on orkut, and click add selected friends to send them friend requests.

If you don't want to add anyone on this list as an orkut friend, you can skip the first step and move on to sending new orkut invites, by clicking skip adding friends. Here's what you need to do:

1. Select the contacts you'd like to invite.
2. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, write a personal message in your invites, if you wish to, and enter a word verification in the text box.
3. Click invite selected contacts.

Google Earth comes to the iPhone

No doubt many of you have frittered away several hours through the sheer exploration possibilities offered by the Google Earth program. Perhaps some of you may even have wished you could have this little application everywhere you go. If so, then you're in luck: in a posting on Google's LatLong blog, Product Manager Peter Birch announced that the Google Earth application is making its debut in the iTunes App Store today (available here).
According to Mr. Birch, the iPhone's touch interface provides a very natural way for to interact with the interface. Swiping your fingers will move the map around, while pinching in and out controls the zoom. Using the iPhone's GPS, users can instantly go to their current location in the application. In addition, Panoramio integration allows users access to over eight million user submitted photos of locations.

Nokia has just unveiled its newest mobile device – the 5800 XpressMusic – that is already being touted as the iPhone killer.
Amongst its myriad features, the gadget – complete with a touchscreen – features a 3.2-megapixel camera (with video recording and Carl Zeiss lens), stereo Bluetooth, a microSD card slot, 81MB of internal memory, USB mass storage, personal organiser apps, a speakerphone, a 3.5mm headset jack, assisted GPS, a music player, and PC syncing.

A freely-available software developed by US researchers promises to track stolen laptops through the Internet, and even click a photograph of the thief.

Engineers at the University of Washington have dubbed the new theft-protection tool ‘Adeona’, after the Roman goddess of safe returns, and it can be downloaded for Linux, Windows, and Mac at adeona.cs.washington.edu.

“Adeona is free and easy to install, so anyone who owns a laptop, or even a small company, can use it to track their assets,” said researcher Gabriel Maganis. “We’re really hoping laptop users all over the world will install it on their machines.”

Once Adeona is installed, the notebook PC will occasionally send its Internet protocol address and related information to OpenDHT, a free online storage network. This information can be used to establish the computer’s general location.

On a Mac, Adeona also uses the computer’s internal camera to take a photo that it sends to the same server. All the actions are done discreetly, without letting the user know.

And the information is secure and discreet. Adeona scrambles the data, so it must be deciphered using a password known only by the owner who set up the account.

The technology’s open-source nature also means it could be adapted for use in cellphones and other mobile devices. The boffins say they have already received requests for an iPhone version.
Adeona only requires downloading and installing a small software client. Adeona is free to use.

Microsoft Corp released on Last week a second test version of Internet Explorer 8, delivering a feature-complete upgrade to the world's most widely used Web browser.

The world's largest software maker said the latest version -- beta 2 -- of Internet Explorer, which has a market share of about 75 percent, comes with new features to enhance privacy, ease-of-use, and security.

Microsoft first released a test -- or beta 1 -- version of IE 8 in March, but that was aimed at letting Web developers take a first look at the new browser. This latest version is aimed at a broader consumer audience.

The company would not disclose when it planned to officially launch IE 8 nor how many people are expected to download the test version of the new browser. It released Internet Explorer 7 in October 2006.

Microsoft has pledged to deliver more regular updates of Internet Explorer, whose lead has been chipped away by Mozilla's Firefox browser.

The latest version of Internet Explorer replicates features found in Firefox 3, the latest version of that Web browser, including a "smart" address bar that remembers and redirects user to website addresses they have visited before.

Internet Explorer 8 also offers a mode called "InPrivate Browsing," which ensures that history, temporary Internet files and cookies are not recorded on a user's PC.

There is also a security feature that allows a user to block content coming from third-parties trying to track and aggregate the user's online behavior.

Microsoft also updated already announced features such as "Activities," which allows a user to use information found on one page, such as an address, in conjunction with an online service such as mapping without leaving the original site.

Google Chrome - Google Introduce its Own Web Browser

Google Chrome is a brand new browser by Google. It has alot of features: such as the Security site and UI site. At the UI side, the Chrome seperate each windows into tabs and each tab actually is a process. You can try to open 3 tabs in your Chrome and you will find out 3 child process under your Google Chrome parent process.

This helps to give a boundary to each process so that malware cannot affect other tab or even your browser. Actually the navigation UI very similar to Safari browser. The new tab page even can shown all the recently visited pages or websites and because of each of the tab is separated into process it makes the posibility to detach your tab into new window of Chrome very fast and easy, or vise versa. Omnibox is applied in the address bar. It allow you to key in some related keywords and press “TAB”, some of the auto complete list is listed there.
There are quite number of developer tools or application to help your web development. For example, the Javascript Console and DOM Inspector. Oh, another best thing I like: each of the plugin (for example: Flash plugin, PDF plugin) is separate into different process too. It enables you to close any process individually. Some improvements are near invisible. For example, each of the tabs in a window will be powered separately. What does it really mean? It means that if one tab gets corrupted, the browser doesn’t crash that making you lose the rest of the tabs as well.

GMDesk : Run Google Web Appications into a Single Desktop Application

All platforms with Adobe AIR: Free desktop application GMDesk provides quick access to Google services in a standalone window separate from your browser. GMDesk separates Gmail, Google Reader, Google Calendar, Google Docs, and Google Maps from the rest of your web browsing, and provides keyboard shortcuts to switch between them (Ctrl+ or Cmd+1 through 6).

You can't install browser add-ons like Better Gmail or Better GReader in GMDesk, and currently it displays too-small text in Gmail (though the developer is working on a fix for that). Ultimately GMDesk doesn't offer many features that make it worth using (or much better than apps like Prism or Fluid), but it raises the question: If Google released native desktop apps like Picasa for Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Reader, and Google Docs, would you use them? Until they do (which may be never), GMDesk is a free download and requires Adobe AIR to run.

10 Awesome Applications for BlackBerry

The BlackBerry application marketplace might not be as easy to navigate at Apple’s App Store and Java might not be as much fun as Cocoa Touch for developers, but there are still some great BlackBerry applications out there.

1. Opera Mini -- BlackBerry 4.5 is supposed to have a much-improved built-in browser (my carrier hasn't officially upgraded yet, so I'm unsure), but Opera Mini is a great alternative. It isn't as fast as the built-in browser and functionality like copy/paste isn't as nicely integrated, but you can actually view pages the way they look on a regular computer (more or less) and zoom in on parts of the screen for easy access. If you ever want to post a comment to a blog or fill out another big text field, Opera Mini is the way to go.

2. Flickr -- This official BlackBerry client was released in June and beats the pants off of uploading via e-mail. You can go straight to the camera from the Flick app or choose a photo from your media card or one of your media directories.

3. Facebook -- Update your status, read your messages, post messages to your friends walls and send pictures directly to your photo page. It's pretty slick.

4. NewsGator Go ! -- Some people just love Google Reader. I am not one of these people. On the desktop, I use NetNewsWire, on my BlackBerry, I use NewsGator Go!. Like all the NewsGator products, its free. Sign up for a free NewsGator Online account or link it with your existing account. What's so nice about the NewsGator family of products is that they all sync together. So if you use FeedDemon on a PC or NetNewsWire on the Mac, you can access all of your feeds from any other computer just using NewsGator's web reader (which I think is 100x better than Google Reader). That also means that you can access all your feeds on your BlackBerry. And anything you mark as read on one device, shows up as read on the others.

5. Blackbird -- I used to use Twitterberry to update my Twitter status from my phone, but now I've switched to Blackbird. The interface is cleaner and it feels faster. I miss the user icon pictures from Twitterberry, this is still my favorite way of using Twitter.

6. BBMetaBlog -- iPhone users have access to official WordPress and TypePad blog clients and more than one unofficial Tumblr clients, but BlackBerry users, we've been all but forgotten in the world of moblogging software. TypePad users can use TypePad Mobile BlackBerry and Blogger users can use Blogger for BlackBerry, but what about people who use XML-RPC based blogs? BBMetaBlog is not perfect -- it was designed to interface with a custom blog-engine for Lotus Domino, not for WordPress or Movable Type or any other system that uses the MetaWeblog API implementation of XML-RPC -- but it works. Just set your access URL to your XMLRPC URI and you're set! Categories and tagging doesn't work, but it's a better alternative to e-mail and it can be faster than trying to post with Opera Mini.

7.Google Suite -- Google's Mobile tools for BlackBerry are awesome. The Gmail app is fast, the Google News page is easy to navigate and Google's mobile mapping tool is the best! Even if you don't have GPS, you can have GPS-like functionality on your phone. Google Sync for BlackBerry keeps your BlackBerry calendar synced up with Google Calendar, and it's a two way sync -- which is always great.

8.Sudoku -- The unregistered version won't let you download daily new puzzles, but still comes with a couple of hundred at three difficulty levels. If you've mastered Brick Breaker (or Brick Breaker has mastered you), it's a great way to kill some time.

9. Mobile Quotes and Analysis for BlackBerry -- Even though the quotes are time-delayed (I want a Google Finance BlackBerry app -- not just a web page, an app!), this is a fast, free way to keep track of the market.

Android apps: What would you want?

Arguably one of the best things to come out of the iPhone 2.0 firmware update, as well as the launch of the iPhone 3G, is the ability for the iPhone to install third-party applications directly to the phone via the App Store. Well, Google's new Android OS will also support such a service in the form of the Android Market.

As Google announced on Thursday, the Android Market is an online marketplace that will let you find, buy, download, and rate applications (which sounds eerily similar to the iPhone App Store). And, as you can see from the example screen shots, it appears that applications like a ringtone editor, a talking compass, and a barcode scanner, are already in the works.

This brings up the question of the kind of applications we would want for the Android phone. Access to Google apps like Google Calendar, Google Docs, and Google Reader is a given (we assume), so that leaves the door wide open for more innovative applications. We would personally love to see a multi-IM client, and an Android equivalent of the iPhone's song-identification apps like Shazam would be nice, too. One thing we would really love is turn-by-turn directions, which the iPhone currently lacks.

Zenith's Low Cost PC, Laptop : Laptop Starting With 14, 999.

Indian personal computer maker, Zenith Computers, on Thursday, unveiled a new laptop priced at Rs 14,999 and the desktop PC for Rs 11,999.
Company claims that these brands launched under the brand name ‘EcoStyle’, are free of any toxic materials and the consumption of energy is also less as both the computers on an average, consume 30% less power.
Both the products are vailable with Windows Vista and Microsoft XP home edition through a tie up with the Microsoft. The company claims that EcoStyle laptop priced at Rs 14, 999, will be the lowest priced Windows OS enabled laptop in the market.

Zenith’s manufacturing facility at Goa, which produces 20,000 units a month, is planning to increase the capacity by another one thousand, the company said.
Raj Saraf, CMD, Zenith Computers, said the newly launched, low cost laptop, will cater across all the segments, including the students and educational institutions in particular. “This initiative is a part of our continuous effort to foster advanced and hassle free computing experience. With the EcoStyle PC, Zenith is bringing a true low-cost PC which underlines performance and affordability for the consumers he added,” he added.

When asked, if the economy reeling under the global slowdown, along all the industry verticals, will have enough takers for the laptops, Saraf positively asserted, “I don’t see any impact of slowdown as the penetration of PCs in the country is still very low”.

You can watch movies in Paint, Photoshop.. you can even play a movie on your Desktop background.I Know u Wanted to know the Trick.

Play a movie in any movie player, and take a screenshot while doing it, Now paste that screenshot into your favorite imaging software, even MS Paint, and watch the movie play.
While you're in MS Paint, save the screenshot as a BMP file, and make that file your background image.
I know what you're doing, you're trying it right now because you think i'm full of crap. I wouldn't have believed it either, until I tried it.
This has to rank right up there with one of the strangest windows quirks i've run into. From what I gather, it's to keep people from taking screenshots of movies.

Pls note that it doesn't work with DivX movies, or flash movies
