Top Ten About Kazakhstan

2012-05-03T23:19:00.001-07:00

In the 2006 comedy film Borat, Kazakhstan is lampooned as a country you would want to escape to.
However, according to the country’s foreign minister, visa applications from tourists wishing to visit the nation have increased “ten-fold” since the film was released.
Yerzhan Kazykhanov, commenting on the news on Monday [23rd April 2012], said: “I am grateful to ‘Borat’ for helping attract tourists to Kazakhstan.”
Here are ten facts that visitors to this fascinating country might like to know before setting off…

10. It has many borders

Kazakhstan is the world’s largest landlocked country. Bordered by Russia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan it has no sea coastline. But you can still find a lot of water in the country…

9. … And many rivers and lakes

There are a staggering 85,000 rivers and 48,000 lakes in the country – no wonder it’s such a popular spot for fishers to journey to.

8. The up-and-coming capital: Astana

Capital city Astana is known for its warm summers and cold winters. And when I say cold winters I really do mean cold winters. Mongolia is the only country in the world with a colder capital.

7. The stylish former capital

[A Soviet monument in Almaty. Photograph by Dieter Zirnig]
Astana is one of the world’s youngest capital cities; it only became the capital in 1997. Residents of the former capital, the decidedly more stylish Almaty, weren’t happy about having the title taken away from them.

6. Nomadic people

Kazakhstan was the last Soviet republic to declare independence; it did so on December 16th 1991. Many of the country’s citizens still lead a semi-nomadic existence, following their herds into the pastures each summer and setting up camp with their yurts. But the nation is not resistant to modernisation and thanks to its oil reserves, is easily the richest of the ex-Soviet ‘stan’ nations.

5. Tien Shan’s famous climber

Kazakh mountaineer Kazbek Valiev has climbed many of his country’s peaks and is the only Kazakh to have scaled Everest. Nicknamed the Snow Leopard, in 1998 Kazbek rescued a lost climber at the greatest height any helicopter has ever flown to retrieve a man from a mountain. The mountain in question was Kazakhstan’s Tien Shan mountains and the rescued climber was a Japanese friend of Kazbek.

4. Horseback games

The Kazakh Steppe is the world’s largest dry steppe region and covers a third of the country. Horseback is a favoured method of traversing the steppe’s grasslands and so horses naturally have contributed much to Kazakh culture and folklore. The traditional horseback game of Kyz Kuu, an exotic hybrid of horse racing and kiss chase, is still performed by costumed riders of the 21st century.

3. Gambling

Wherever there is horse racing there is also gambling and Kazakhstan is no exception. Until 2007, when the exasperated Kazakh government launched a crackdown, the country had as many casinos as the USA – despite having a population just five per cent as large.

2. Big country, sparse population

On the subject of population – Kazhakhstan’s is under 16 million; roughly the same size as Beijing’s. In terms of surface area the country is the ninth largest in the world and covers an area the size of Western Europe. The average population density is six people per square kilometer.

1. Borat

And finally… the film Borat was filmed in Romania not Kazakhstan so don’t believe everything you see in the film!

Ten Tips of Marathon

2012-04-29T01:09:00.002-07:00

Marathon is one of the healthiest physical activities that have been established as part of the original Olympic events that took place in 1896. Later on in history, the distance for marathon has been set, and this is being followed by different marathons established across the globe. It has been a recreational activity that promotes physical fitness to all athletes. In the latter part of the 1960s, women have been included or allowed to take part in some of the marathon activities. For a time being, there were series of tips and advices being given to all marathon athletes, whether it is intended for a professional or for someone who is just starting. Among the tips that have been provided, here are the best that could really make all athletes to stay, endure, and win. Below are the 10 best Marathon tips

10. Brief Walking

This is the best way to prepare your legs before you do your regular running. This is not just applicable during the marathon competition but in the daily or regular running that you do. This would relax the muscle and it would avoid tightening on the muscles while on the latter part of the run.

9. Relax

It’s wise that you are taking enough rest the day before the marathon event. The weeks and days that you have allotted running are enough already. This would condition your entire body and mind. You could get a spa; have a new haircut, and other relaxing activities.

8. Do a Heart Rate Monitoring

There is no other way to check your pace but through your heart rate. You do this with your set weekly training in varying heart rate zones. This would allow your body to produce the necessary or required energy, and it would optimize your speed even more. Check your heart rate from day-to-day. It’s ideal if you have a trainer with you, so you will avoid being over trained.

7. Get Enough Sleep

Like anyone else who is not in the marathon field, you have to get enough sleep. You should get the required amount of sleep, not just before the event, but you should proactively receive enough body rest every day. It’s one way of renewing the energy and strength of the body.

6. Set a One Long Run Week

This is one of the best advices that any marathon athlete should not forego. Majority of the injuries that most of the athletes encounter or experience while on the event itself are identified on taking excessive long run during their practices. Just set a week in your training that you would do a long run.

5. Take Carbohydrates in the Body

Taking carbs are not really prohibited, but they are actually needed. You don’t have to restrain or punish yourself if you would take pasta, or any modest meal that you like. Of course, you don’t take too much of it. Eat in moderation is a part of the rule of the thumb.

4. Set Goal Time

You have to set specific times and miles every week where you could give your 100%. You could do it in a gradual manner, until you have reached your limit and peak. You could add 3 to 5 minutes every day in your daily marathon time while adding a mile each day.

3. Don’t Waste Energy

Don’t aim to start in a high level of intensity when you are in the event. Take it slowly. If there are others who are faster than you, that’s okay. Plan on the level of energy that you would release, so your body could make necessary adjustments and you’ll avoid being worn out even if the race is not yet done and over.

2. Wear Appropriate Shoes

Don’t just wear shoes that you like, but wear comfortable and durable type of shoes so you would avoid any level of irritation, difficulty in running, and discomfort when you are on the peak of the marathon.

1. The Right Time to Drink Water

The right time to drink water is 48 hours before you participate in the marathon, follow 8 glasses a day a week before the event, and of course, as a medical advise given by Dr. Lewis G. Maharan, just drink if you are thirsty. Majority of marathon health related complexities are due to consumption of water during the race even if the athlete does not feel thirsty, which is drinking ahead of their thirst. It would result to coma, seizure, vomiting, and worse, death. Those were the 10 best Marathon tips that you should consider before running in any marathon race.

Lyric Love You Like A Love Song
It’s been said and done
Every beautiful thought’s been already sung

So your melody will play on and on with the best of ‘em
You are beautiful like a dream come alive, incredible
A sinful, miracle, lyrical
You saved my life again
And I want you to know, baby

I, I love you like a love song baby (3x)
And I keep hitting re-pe-pe-pe-pe-pe-peat
I, I love you like a love song baby (3x)
And I keep hitting re-pe-pe-pe-pe-pe-peat

Selena Gomez - Cruella De Vil (Preview)

Lyric Cruella De Vil
Look out for Cruella De Vil

Cruella De Vil, Cruella De Vil
If she doesn't scare you, no evil thing will
To see her is to take a sudden chill
Cruella, Cruella De Vil

The curl of her lips, the ice in her stare
All innocent children had better beware
She's like a spider waiting for the kill
Look out for Cruella De Vil

Cruella, Cruella De Vil
If she doesn't scare you, no evil thing will
Cruella, Cruella De Vil
To see her is to take a sudden chill
Cruella De Vil

This vampire bat, this inhuman beast
She ought to be locked up and never released
The world was such a wholesome place
Until Cruella, Cruella De Vil, yeah

Cruella, Cruella De Vil
If she doesn't scare you, no evil thing will
Cruella, Cruella De Vil
To see her is to take a sudden chill
Cruella De Vil

At first you think Cruella is a devil
But after time has worn away the shock
You come to realize, you've seen her kind of eyes
Watching you from underneath a rock

Cruella, Cruella De Vil
If she doesn't scare you, no evil thing will
Cruella, Cruella De Vil
To see her is to take a sudden chill

Cruella, Cruella De Vil
If she doesn't scare you, no evil thing will
Cruella, Cruella De Vil
To see her is to take a sudden chill
Cruella De Vil

Cruella De Vil, yeah
Cruella De Vil
Look out for Cruella De Vil

watch all the flower

dance with the wind

listen to snowflakes

whisper your name

feel all the wonder

lifting your dreams

you can fly

fly to who you are

fly to your heart

touch every rainbow

painting the sky

look at the magic

glide through you life

fly to who you are

everywhere you go

your soul will find a home

rise to the height

of all you can be

soar on the hoap

of marvelous things

fly to who you are

3 Ways To Help UNICEF With Selena Gomez

2012-04-13T05:57:00.004-07:00

Tons of people would love to hang out with Selena Gomez, but how about hanging out with Selena Gomez and doing a good deed? Meet Selena: check. Help children in need: check. Sounds like a good day!

Selena is a big supporter of UNICEF and has traveled to different parts of the world to help little peeps in need. And it looks like she’s got someone going with her for her next big trip:

Just met my partner/volunteer for my next UNICEF trip! We're gonna have so much fun

Photo: Selena Gomez posing with her UNICEF partner/volunteer. (Instagram.com)

No word yet on who the lucky girl is or how she got chosen!

Even if you don’t get to help UNICEF with Selena (as in being right next to her), you can still help UNICEF with Selena (as in doing some of the same stuff she might be doing). We have a list of three things you can do to help the kiddies out.

+ Join a UNICEF club at your high school or college, or make one!

UNICEF clubs do things like fundraise, send letters to politicians, and write editorials for school newspapers. ’Member Selena putting on a concert for UNICEF? Well, you can put on concerts of your own through these clubs!

+ Educate!

UNICEF has a place on its website aimed to show teachers how they can teach their students about helping kids. But, seriously, this is the kind of teaching you don’t need a teaching certificate to do. If you know your stuff, you can tell others!

+ Write letters.

If you’re under the age of eighteen you can’t vote, but it doesn’t mean you can’t write to your public officials. UNICEF suggests you write your public officials over issues like stopping child trafficking and protecting kids from cluster munitions.
