Pure Juiceology Review

Every year about this time I load the family up in the old SUV and we trek 30 minutes up the mountain to an area in our region affectionately known as- Apple Hill. On Apple Hill you find, as you guessed it...Apples on a Hill. I know- crazy right?

It's wonderful- fresh apples (and walnuts, almonds, pumpkins, etc), fresh apple pies, fresh apple bread and fresh apples on a stick. Fun stuff for the kids to do. Beautiful crafts and art. Freshly brewed apple beer. But the most amazing thing... the reason why we go year after year is the freshly squeezed apple cider.

This apple cider is the best thing you've ever tasted (assuming you like apples of course) because it's again as you guessed it- fresh. They pick the apples in front of you and run them through the press, and viola...apple cider. It's crisp, it's tart, without the cloying sweetness usually found in apple juice. It makes it hard to go back to the grocery store and drink the imitation after.

Recently Pure Juiceology was kind enough to send me two bottles of their juice to try and share with my family.

Peach Mango
Light, crisp, and even more important- no chunks of fruit. I know some people like that sort of thing. I know they sell whole lines of drinks with chunks of fruit in the juice. But I think it's the grossest thing ever. I want my juice to be just that- something to drink not chew.

The Peach Mango was fantastic. Just a hint of each fruit, great texture and good for you of course (but we'll talk more about that later). Although I feel just a might guilty for saying this seeing as to how this is such a healthy drink, but what a great base for all of your summer cocktails! I may have mixed some with a little rum and some ice. It was the best thing ever.

Blueberry Acai
I'll be frank I'm having a hard time keeping up with all these new designer berries. I've managed to avoid acai and all the hoopla surrounding it all this time. However after tasting this, I'm going to have to revise my opinion or I'm simply going to have to buy this product from now on. With Blueberry and acai- the product was berry tasting of course but what was so surprising was what it wasn't. It wasn't cloyingly sweet. Often I'll avoid blueberry in drinks because usually it's just too much. Not so here. This would be a great product to add to smoothies or milkshakes especially for kids.They won't know they're getting a few extra vitamins and minerals.

One of the things that struck me most about these two drinks was how fresh they were...like my beloved Apple Hill apple cider, Juiceology tastes as though they pulled the fruit, pressed it and bottled it immediately. It doesn't taste artificial. It tastes as though someone put some thought and care into the creation of this product.

Right now the juice is mostly distributed in Southern California at Ralphs, Bristol Farms, Famima, Gelson's and Northgate but I'm sure it'll be coming to a shelf close to you soon.

HOP Movie Review: #HOPtoit

I was really lucky and invited to see an advanced screening of HOP.

I'll save you all the trials and tribulations of trying to get to kids out of the house before noon on a Saturday and just tell you we arrived in the theater in the nick of time or by the hair of our chiney, chin, chin. (yes, I know wrong story)

Haven't seen the preview yet? Well, help yourself. We'll wait...

Good, so we're all on the same page. Before we start perhaps I should tell you I really liked Despicable Me. The site of him cracking the little guy in half and shaking him up like a glow stick still makes me crack up (much to the chagrin of my children) but what can I tell you it gets me in my funny bone. Why do I mention it? Because HOP is brought to us by the creators of Despicable Me. So it makes sense that I would like this movie as well.

E.B. played by Russel Brandt, doesn't want to be the Easter Bunny. He wants to be a drummer. So he leaves Easter island (of course) to seek his dreams in sunny California. There he runs into Fred (played by James Marsden) quite literally. Fred is an out-of-work slacker who is house-sitting in a fancy-schmancy house I'd like to own some day before I die. E.B. schmoozes Fred and talks his way into the big house where he not only finds shelter but all the carrots he could ever need. The two knock heads and trip over each till the very end when each helps the other grow into the person/bunny they were meant to be. Not a bad lesson to learn for children of all ages.

Some of my thoughts on the movie

Some of the snarky dialogue made my cynical teen actually laugh out loud. Always a miracle.
Personally I enjoyed the celebrity cameo by the Hoff himself. Particularly since this time he's clothed (see Sponge Bob the movie).
The dogs are a little scary for smaller children. The two directly in the seat behind us whimpered and whined a bit.
Great mix of live action and animation. Could hardly tell the difference.
Has that great girl from the Big Bang Theory- Kaley Cuoco. I like her.
Great music.

All in all this movie is great fun for kids and adults alike with adult humor that isn't too adult for our smarty-pants in the audience. I do have to say I didn't care for the sheer amount the writers borrowed from Santa Claus mythology. I would think with all of the wonderful stories of Easter in general and the Easter Bunny specifically they could be just a little more original. A little less lazy.

Look, kids movies tend to be hit or miss for adults. I can't tell you how many Pokemon movies I slept through. HOP is a winner. Entertainment literally for the whole family. Not to scary for youngsters with just enough adult humor to make them chuckle.

HOP is definitely worth checking out and opens Friday, April 1, 2011. Can't wait for more?

Fellowes' PS-12Cs Cross-Cut Shredder

Check-stubs, credit card offers, and all that junk mail. It really an invitation to thieves to steal your identity and use your personal information.

The FTC estimates that as many as 9 million Americans have their identities stolen each year. In fact, you or someone you know may have experienced some form of identity theft.

It happened to me twice.

The dreaded phone call. Excuse me Ms. Right- would you happen to be in Latvia at the moment? Ummm, NO!! Luckily my bank stopped them before they got the $3000 they were trying to steal. The second time someone was rooting through my trash and stole some old checks. For an account I had closed. Now I meticulously shred everything!!!!!

Use the wrong shredder and it's an exercise in hell. Things get stuck. You have to stop, pull the paper out and start all over again. Over and over and over and over again- until you're ready to throw all the paper on the BBQ and Office Space the shredder. Luckily the Fellowes P-12C paper shredder isn't like that. It's a durable, doesn't do that wah, weah stuck noise we're all used to and luckily is a very affordable machine.

New Purex® Complete Crystals Softener!!

Purex recently sent me a sample of their newest product- the crystals softener set.

I have to admit I had to read the directions a few times before I added any to my laundry. Not because it was hard but because I'm more than just a little bit slow. What can I tell you?

Could not have been easier. You simply add it to you your regular wash. What's better- it's 92% Natural unlike regular fabric softeners.

The Crystals aren't like that- because they work the entire cycle, the scent lasts for a long-time.
