Sri Lanka wants to win the World Cup trophy goodbye to legendary spinner and world record holder Muttiah Muralitharan who is retiring after the International Cricket tournament.

The spinner, who holds the record of the test (800) and the teller of a day (521), playing his fourth and last World Cup. He retired from the tests in July last year.

“There is a special person, a legend,” said his partner Chamara Kapugedera the wily 38-year high on Thursday.

“Everyone in the team wants to give him (Murali) a good send. We want to win the Cup Murali. It would be a great honor,” said at the team practice Kapugedera Premadasa Stadium in Colombo R. renovated.

ICC World Cup 2011 India vs NewZealand(Ind vs NZ) warm-up match saw India getting the upper hand, as they posted a mammoth 360 runs for the loss of just 5 wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. In reply, the Kiwis got all out for just 243 runs in 43.1 overs. India thus won the match convincingly by 117 runs. The Indians will go into the World Cup with their heads held high and would hope to repeat the same performance when they meet Bangladesh in the tournament opener on 19th of February, 2011.

Earlier in the day, Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat first in the final warm-up match being played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag failed to give India a good start and were out cheaply. But Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli steadied the innings with two steady half-centuries before MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina put up a firework of shots with a 56-ball 124-run partnership to end the Indian innings at 360 runs. ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 one of the favorite team South Africa arrived yesterday Chennai. South African cricket captain Graeme Smith arrives with teammates at the Kamaraj Airport in Chennai on Wednesday for the World Cup 2011.

South Africa will play their first warm-up match against Zimbabwe on Saturday at the renovated M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Bangalore.

The Proteas are placed in Group B along with India, Bangladesh, England, West Indies, Ireland and the Netherlands.

Australian selectors have chosen the 15-man squad to represent the country in the ICC World Cup 2011.

There are no real surprises in the line-up. Ricky Ponting has been retained as the captain despite his injury as he is expected to recover in time for the tournament.

Exclusion of only two men, Peter Siddle and Xavier Doherty, is perhaps questionable but it is a decision which was expected. The selectors have also opted for the Victoria all-rounder John Hastings.

Australia have also decided to include the injured Michael Hussey in the squad. Hussey’s participation in the World Cup is clouded by uncertainty after he underwent a hamstring surgery.

The left-handed batsmen picked up the injury while batting in the first One Day International against England on Sunday. If Hussey fails to recover for the tournament, the Australian selectors have the option of replacing the middle-order batsman with someone else.

The World Cup 2011 is due to begin in just over a month’s time on 19 February, 2011 in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Australia’s first match of the tournament will be against Zimbabwe on 21 February.

India Announces 15 Member squad for ICC Cricket World Cup 2011

ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 Indian squad: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee, headed by its chairman K Srikkanth, today announced a 15-member squad for the 2011 ICC World Cup to be played in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh from February 19 to April 2.

The selectors took into consideration the fact that spin would make a big difference in winning on wickets in the sub-continents, specially in India, and picked three spinners in Harbhajan Singh, R Ashwin (both off-spinners) and leg-spinner Piyush Chawla, who has been recalled.

India will take on Bangladesh in the opening match to be played in Dhaka on February 19.

PCB Announce 30-member Initial Squad for ICC World Cup 2011

Selection Committee of (PCB) Pakistan Cricket Board has announced the initial squad of 30 players for the ICC World Cup 2011.

Shoaib Malik and Danish Kaneria failed to break into the probables whereas wicket-keeper batsman Kamran Akmal and former captain Mohammad Yousuf were included in the squad.

According to the sources, Shoaib Malik and Danish Kaneria were not successfully able to declare their assets and as a result the selection committee did not get the clearance from the PCB for both players. But Kamran Akmal did declare his assets and that was the reason why he has been named in the initial world cup squad.

Shoaib Malik has performed exceptionally well in the ongoing Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2010-11 Division One as he scored 725 runs in only four matches with an extraordinary average of more than 120 runs per innings. Pakistan cricket fans would be very disappointed as they were hoping that Shoaib Malik would be able to make it to the national team.
On the other hand, Kamran Akmal has also performed brilliantly in domestic cricket and would be hoping that he is named in the One Day squad for the New Zealand series.

Controversial all-rounder Rana Naved has also been included in the initial world cup squad. Selection committee has also named six uncapped players in the 30-man squad which include Naved Yaseen, Yasir Shah, Zulfiqar Babar, Junaid Khan, Aizaz Cheema and Salman Ahmed.

Dashing opening batsmen Imran Nazir and Nasir Jamshed have also made a comeback in the probables. Pakistan’s initial squad of 30 players is as follows:

World Cup Cricket 2011 The 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup will be the tenth Cricket World Cup, and will be hosted by three South Asian Test cricket playing countries; India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Ashwin, Ashok Dinda and Sudeep Tyagi make it for the first time into the T20I team, whereas S. Sreesanth makes a return to the side as well. Pragyan Ojha has also been selected to the side in place of Amit Mishra too. After having missed the third and the final test due to his sister's marriage, Gautam Gambhir will also make a comeback to the side.

Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir should continue to open the innings, while Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Rohit Sharma should definitely make it to the playing eleven for India. Yusuf Pathan should be a certainty as well, now that Ravindra Jadeja has been chucked out of the side, whereas amongst the bowlers, Ashish Nehra and Sreesanth look certain. The other two positions in the side should, in all probabilities, go to a spinner and a quick bowler, and in that case, Pragyan Ojha and one of Tyagi, Dinda or Ishant Sharma should be taken into the eleven.

For the Sri Lankans, the captain was sore about the review system not being used for the series and hence he losing out on almost 500 runs. The same trend is going to continue for this T20I series as well, and he may well need to make the most out of the new guys in the side. T.Dilshan will continue to open and in all probabilities will have Sanath Jayasuriya as his partner, but it will be the bowling of Lasith Malinga that the captain will use to unleash against the hosts.

There cannot be any doubt that it is difficult to pinpoint favourites, and the same will continue in this series. However, India has not had a great time in the T20Is ever since the times of winning the ICC World T20.

India Eager to Get Back to Winning Ways Against Sri Lanka

India will look to put behind the disappointment of their one-day drubbing at the hands of Australia and bounce back to winning ways when they take on Sri Lanka in the first match of a three-Test series starting in Ahmedabad on Monday.

For this to happen, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his men would have to switch into the Test mode from the more frenetic one-day frame of mind when they go into the first Test at the Sardar Patel Gujarat Stadium in Motera.

The Indian team has had a non-stop dish of limited-over cricket, 50-over and Twenty20, over the last six months and played their last Test series against New Zealand in March-April early this year.

The Indian middle order has been bolstered by the return of Test specialists Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman, who were not part of the squad that lost to Australia after squandering a 2-1 lead by losing the next three matches in-a-row.

Both Dravid and Laxman, especially the former, are coming into the match on the back of some good displays in the Ranji Trophy and would be eager to hit the straps.

As for Sri Lanka, after having won the series against Pakistan and New Zealand, the team is packed with confidence and brimming with enthusiasm. By clinching the series they wish to give the spin-wizard, Murlidharan, a befitting farewell before he retires from overseas cricket.

Since their first Test visit in 1982, Sri Lanka has played 14 matches with India and has failed to defeat it on its homesoil. But now with newcomers like Herath and Kandamby and hard hitters like Sangakkara, Jayawardene and Samarweera at the crease, it is very hopeful as it boasts of a balanced side, with a strong spin attack and a good batting order.

India opens 2011 World Cup against Bangladesh

India will clash with Bangladesh in the opening match of the 2011 World Cup in Dhaka on February 19, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Monday.

The first match takes place two days after the opening ceremony of the 14-nation showpiece at the same venue in Dhaka on February 17, according to the schedule released by the ICC here.

The final of the 43-day tournament, being co-hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, will take place at the renovated Wankhede stadium in India's financial capital of Mumbai on April 2.

The teams have been divided into two groups of seven each for the preliminary league, with the top four from each group advancing to the quarter-finals.

Defending champions Australia head group A which includes Pakistan, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and two qualifiers, Canada and Kenya.

The other group comprises India, South Africa, England, West Indies, Bangladesh and qualifiers Ireland, Netherlands.

India will host 29 matches at eight venues, Sri Lanka 12 at three venues and Bangladesh eight at two places, after Pakistan were removed as co-hosts by the ICC due to security fears in the volatile nation.

Pakistan, who were wary of playing in India due to political tensions between the two nations, will play its six league matches in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka will host five of its matches at two new venues in southern Hambantota and Pallekele, near the hill town of Kandy, where cricket stadiums are under construction.

The remaining seven games in the island nation will be held at the Premadasa stadium in Colombo.

India has picked eight regular Test centres -- Mumbai, Mohali, Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai, New Delhi for its matches.

The Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka will host six matches and the opening ceremony, while two games will be played in the port city of Chittagong.

The 2011 event is a week shorter than the one held in the Caribbean in 2007 and will have 49 matches, two less than the previous tournament.

“This announcement is an important indicator of the excellent progress we are making towards our flagship event which brings together teams from all our members in nation-versus-nation action,” ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat said.

“Preparation of venues and safety and security planning continues, and I am confident that the host countries will showcase our great sport with its great spirit in the best possible light.”ICC vice-president Sharad Pawar, who is chairman of the organising committee, said he looked forward to a great tournament.

“The sub-continent offers some great facilities for the cricketers, spectators, sponsors and media, with some brand new stadia to be built and others to be upgraded,” said Pawar.

“The schedule will allow the venues to focus on the task at hand to plan and implement their preparations, and ensure they are ready to welcome the world to this beautiful, historic and cricket-loving region in 2011.”
