FASHION EDITORIAL: ITS EITHER BLACK OR WHITE!

One of Spring Summer 13's hottest trends Monochrome, is being featured in a 6 page fashion spread in the current issue of Genevieve magazine.

The Fashion Editor Ezinne Chinkata and fun working on the shoot with Chika Emmanuel and Opeyemi Awoyemi from Beth Models.

Opeyemi was a finalist at Nokia Face of Africa 2005 and just launched the Pearl Look Model Competition along with other models Doyin Hasstrup Olajumoke and Warebi Martha.

Chika won the elite model look 2010 at only 15yrs old.

I absolutely loved the background the location provided and the models were so professional.

Hair & Make-up is by Sleek and Moussa Moussa was on photography.

BAD GAL RIRI AND KATE MOSS

This isn't very new.. but Rihanna and Kate Moss shine in an 'Only Girls in the World' editorial photographed by Mario Testino for V magazine March issue styled by Melanie Ward.

Earlier, before it was released, Rihanna went and leaked the photos. Guess she was really excited at such an amazing shoot haha!

But on a serious note that's a terrible nightmare fore any magazine and V magazine was seriously upset about it. I personally get really irritated at shoots when models or people around wanna take photos. I always go" pls no tweet-pic-ing and no bb. Cant be doing shoots and everything appears on twitter before you leave the location. Not cool.

Anyway...feast your eyes. I love it!

I always thought I didn't like floral prints. In fact up until a few years ago I was so sure they weren't for me. I thought they were too girly and sweet but it’s good to open up your mind and experiment with different trends.

To be honest I’m at a point in my style sojourn where there’s little or nothing I won’t try. Fashion is meant to be fun!

Long post ahead

So sorry for being so distant and not updating regularly. Living and working in Lagos with the crappy internet cant take its toll on a girl.

You know one of those times when you’re feeling so overwhelmed with stuff and you update your bb status with text in that order. Anyway sometime ago i did that and I can’t remember what exactly I wrote but there was one response from my very sarcastic and blunt friend…

“Sweetheart do you have to deal with two divorces and three kids to provide for? I don’t think so. Kindly buck up my friend”I was very silent and couldn’t even respond.

At the end of the day, everyone has their own demons and no one has it all. Life is short and our problems are all very relative. If you complain about how bad your car is, the next person is just trying to buy a Tokunbo and another doesn't even have the money to take cabs. You can’t pay your rent, someone else can’t even get a job.

Thank God for where you are and keep dreaming and seeing yourself where you want to be. I've heard a lot of grace to grass miracles and I know for sure nothing is unattainable.

On to lighter stuff… I still can’t get over the last minute cancellation of Arise Magazine Fashion week AMFW last month. I mean… for me fashion week is basically a chill out fun period (with a teeny bit of work) and I was really looking forward to it.

Anyway, in the spirit of fashion weeks here are some of the photos from MTNLFDW from October last year which I never shared. Lol.

There were so many amazing pieces on the runway which have since then made their way to print in terms via high fashion editorials and trend reports, red-carpets, and the sidewalk. I personally had a few favourites and in no particular order

Here's me on all four days. My style over the past few years has drifted towards very functional and easy seeing as i'm always on the move but still feminine and very chic of course lol.

A pair of high heels transforms a simple plain white tee and jeans. This aso-oke waist coat by Buttons Couture was the star of this look.

Went the trendy route in a Republic of Foreigner baroque print tee and tie-waist pyjama pants

Hi ya,

So i thought i'd let you all know about this fabulous DIY blog a pair & a spare run by Geneva Vanderzeil all the way from Hong Kong. The girl is so fabulous. She comes up with the most amazing projects, and for long, her blog has been sort of a DIY haven for me and a whole lot of people around the globe.

She's ben featured in and websites such as Harper's Bazaar Australia, Grazia UK and Grazia Aus, Vogue Australia and Cosmopolitan, Net a porter and many others.

I have her site on my blog roll just on the right.

Earlier on this year, she published her first DIY book 'DIY Fashionista' a collection of 40 simple and chic DIY projects to die for as well as whole sections on techniques such a sewing, thrifting and creating the ultimate before & after projects.

Also she recently came up with her DIY for the Celine Trio Bag. I'm thinking, when i'm on holiday, i'm definitely trying this one out.

The other day i stumbled on this old photo. I love this look just because its got all the elements of 'confort chic'. Easy breezy floral playsuit, white blazer.. fab. You could easily take off the blazer, slip on some flat sandals and be headed to the beach while the blazer, a banging clutch and 5inch heels will take you straight out on the town. She's too cool for school.

I'll love to try this out. Infact i have this playsuit below that i shall be rocking this look with. Yes!

GOING SHORT

So i've been sort of stuck in a long, centre part hairstyle rut for sometime. If you take a look at my past photos....lol. I use the word 'stuck' loosely though because to be honest, the style is very convenient. You cant pack it in a ponytail for a more formal look, straighten it out and let it fall for a casual look or curl it up for a glam outing.

Anyway, i decided to step out of my box for a little while and went for a Rosemary's Baby pixie cut which i have to confess, i really liked. I remember people seeing me and just going woah! it was fun to watch their shocked faces lol

I had the hair on for about 3wks but unfortunately it was such a busy period and i didnt get to take much photos.

IN LOVE WITH BAROQUE

Maybe it's the ornamental feel or the vintage vibe... i dont know.. but i seem to be naturaly drawn to to baroque prints. For now i seem to be keeping to the darker more demure tones

Its funny how fashion really never changes though,. If you feel this print is familiar, you're not wrong. As i type, i'm wearing a burgundy baroque print blouse that belonged to my my mum yearssss ago. If you look the trend up, you'll find it splashed on most vintage Versace designs. Totally Fab.

Wore this skirt to work the other day. It's from a high street brand i can't really recollect at the moment.

and this here, (blouse and pants) is from Republic of Foreigner, way back from when i wore it to their show at fashion week (MTNLFDW) late last year.

Just wanted to introduce you all to my friend Bidemi Fasanya's store Biddy's Mondo. I did a post on the store sometime ago at a Le Petite Marche LPM event here

Its funny i remember back in school another friend and I loved to go to her room just to chill around loads of shoes and clothing. I'm not surprised after her MBA in the UK, she decided to run a clothing retail brand. She's been doing that since i knew her though she always had one hot bargain or the other.

I think she's an amazing shopper and is always in tune with the latest trends as welll as making sure to balance her stock with classic and timeless pieces all mostly from UK brands.

However, what i love most about the store is that the items are 'very affordable'. Not like all those Lagos boutiques that will want to cut your head with their ridiculous prices.

Hope your year is off to a good start. I cant thank God enough for sustaining me thus far and for that holiday of life. That 1 week + made all the difference. Can you believe it's the 19th already? The year seems to be flying.

Just wanted to share some good news with y’all. Some of you may have heard of the TV show Glamsquad being produced by Remi Diagbare of Tegali Communications which airs on silverbird 5pm on Sundays. Well.. yours truly is the official stylist.

The presenters are Latasha Ngwube an award winning beauty, fashion, social and lifestyle writer. She is currently a contributing editor at Vanguard’s Allure Magazine and handles the PR of some select brands.

Odun Ogunbiyi is the fashion editor at TW Magazine as well as a blogger and PR specialist.

Megha Joshi a.k.a Ms Pearl of Wisdom is a fictional character with a weekly column in Sunday’s Vanguard Allure who's famous for her totally unsympathetic advice to her readers problems.
Megha is an entrepreneur, PR whiz kid, international socialite, writer and style lover.

Wunika Mukan

Wunika Mukan is a well known Project Manager and was very instrumental restoring the Miss Nigeria Competition to once again becoming one the most sought after beauty competitions in the country.

The show is a fashion jury type show. It’s really exciting. I’ve gotten all kinds of feedback and lets just say... well not everyonelikes to have their fashion choices dissected on tv even I have to be more careful in my choice of outfits when I step out. The girls are as frank as can be. I would be redfaced for days if i'm ever being slammed for dressing wrongly. The horror *cringe*

Anyway, I always have so much fun filming, episode after episode. The girls are fun to be around and crack me up a lot behind the scenes.

POSITIVE STRIDES IN OUR FASHION INDUSTRY: THE VANE-STYLE SHOWROOM

Hi ya,

Took a quick break from work two days ago to attend the launch of the Vane-Style showroom a place where designers stock pieces they need solely for press/publicity and stylists can come and pull pieces for magazine covers, editorials, ad campaigns, celebrities, tv shows etc.

It is the brain child of Celeb stylist and personal shopper Veronica Ebie-Odeka.

First of all let me just say a big thank you to Veronica for this.When she first told me about her idea i was sold on it completely. You see as as a working stylist all i see here is my work being made easier. I don't have to call up different designers, send loads of emails and sit in hours of traffic going from one artelier to another to source for pieces when i have a shoot.

Also i think its a great platform for designers to get on. They dont have to be thronged with calls from stylists to get pieces. They also dont have to worry about stylists not returning pieces on time damages and all. The showroom takes care of that. At the moment there are 18 designers on board which i find pretty impressive and i do hope that more get on board.

Some of the designers at the showroom are Republic of Foreigner, Alter Ego, Toju Foyeh, Bridget Awoshika, Jess Stephanie, Ms Makor and a host of others.

BETTER LATE......

Hey guys,

I really should begin to cane myself for these irregullar posts or complete lack of updates. The other day i was reading one of these bloggers news letters and they said something about perfection being a bloggers worst enemy and i believe that. Sometimes we want our posts to be perfect and here in third world, slow internet can make you weak. Below is a post i wrote long ago but stopped halfway cos of bad internet. I actually wondered sometime ago if anyone still reads tho until i started getting emails lol. Anyway i think i should post more especially since my writing skills have sort of improved haha! Anyway.. here goes. Please pardon how late this is.

The week has been quite busy so was the week before. Excuses. lol. Last weekend i attended the Elite model search 2012 an annual cpmpetition organised by BETH Model Management.

It was a black and white theme was going to go just as a guest but then work beckoned as my friend and senior colleague Veronica Ebie (who by the way is great to work with),was the official stylist of the show so i had to go help out. Hence the backstage pass around my neck and the VIP wrist band.

Not forgetting to go back and forth checking with my photographer to see if he was ok and getting the right photos as i was also covering the event for the magazine. I had to also to pick out and monitor delivery of a dress for a client of mine who had an event to attend the following day. Talk about miltitasking but yeah i enjoy it so i dont mind at all.

I hadn' been to the pre-event fittings/style sessions because of my schedule and guess what... I was supposed to be in charge of all the backstage cordination and the interns. okkkkk. Anyway few hours to the event i had to quickly get familiar with the models (girls and guys), who was wearing what, the running order for all the designers showing, the look for each presentation etc,which frankly speaking wasn't a hassle as much as getting used to the models names so i didn't call out Moyin when i needed to call Bukola. I'm very bad with names i can ask for your name three times in 5 minutes. Lol. The event went pretty well and i had a great time especially at the after party.

Two of my friends also came out that night Folakunle and Ajala who left early as she had an early morning church service the following day so I went with Fola to the after party at Likwid Lounge.

Before we got there tho,we decided to check out this place called Shaune's bar (hope i got that right). The audience is more matured but not in the least less fun ( by mature i mean no Unilag kids lol no offence please) and the DJ was fantastic. I'll love to go there someother time

Hi Everyone, so this came in my mail and i'm glad to share.

Mina Evans has just released a capsule collection which they've named Finura Spanish for “finesse”.

The capsule collection was unveiled at the inaugural Glitz Africa Fashion Week 2012 consisting of classic red carpet dresses and versatile separates in statement colours of coral, black, white, grey and navy with the signature fringe beading and embellishments in key areas.

According to Creative director Mina Evans-Anfom,“with this capsule collection, the aim was to mature the Mina Evans woman, providing her with versatile pieces for different occasions in her life.”

I love the fringe detail of these last two pieces. Overall its' a lovely collection.

Hi ya,

Hope everyone's week is off to a good start. Did your monday go well? Yes? No? Anyway you're not alone. Mondays should be taken off the calendar. Had a pretty busy day and i'm glad its over.

So I attended the Matthew Williamson launch at Temple Muse over the weekend and i have to say it was so amazing. I've gone to quite a few fashion events and they could be boring with everyone so self conscious and uptight but this lauch was fantastic i think it had to do more with the crowd. It was a more mature crowd not one of those events where girls just stay at the backdrop taking pictues all through as opposed to attending the actual event.

So interesting were the people and the different conversations that i forgot to take 'photos' *sigh* I spent most of my time talking with Feyi Osinboyejo who's had an amazing career in fashion so far from being a buyer for Harrods to being on the Armani team and Kaylah an OAP who hosts the Road show on Cool FM with Freeze.They were such an interesting pair. Also spent some time talking with one of my favourite fashion girls and Fashion consultant Chalya Shagaya She's been so good to me since the first time we met and i love her to pieces. There were so many people who came to the event from Agbani Darego, Eku Edewor to billionaires like Mrs Folorunsho Alakija. I think everyone's head turned when she walked in. Lol

Had so much fun and for the first time i wasnt in a hurry to leave an event or maybe it was because i wasnt driving myself home but all together i had a nice time.

I'm gonna update with more photos later especially the Matthew Williamson Collection i went to see
But some fab pieces caught my eye like this beaded ankara dress from Iconic Invanity

This burgundy and mustard and black number from Tiffany Amber is amazing and was in my exact size but i didnt look at the price tag. Cant be getting depressed anyhow. lol

This i found rather interesting cant remember who its by.

These days i'm begining to love weekends. Creating time for myself on the weekends is something i'm starting to take seriously and thankfully, my work events happen to be fun ones so i'm gonna attend the launch of UK fashion label Matthew Williamson at temple muse tomorrow.

There will also be the unveiling of the labels A/W12 collection.Got the invite earlier this week.

Temple Muse events are alway fab and with Matthew Williamson debuting it wont be an exception so i'm excited to go.Yay!

One of the cool things about having a blog is being able to just come on your page and talk.

So today on my ride to work i did a little thinking on this thing they say about living in the moment. I think its nice but then again, they say you should think and plan for your future. I tried to rationalise both. For me, putting any work into your future means you'll have to pursue goals etc. The only way to pursue goals is head on. So there will be times where your loved ones may feel a little neglected, you may not have time to exercise and simple pleasures like sleep may seem like a luxury. On the other hand if you decide to just chill out and take life one day at a time, It means getting ready to take whatever life throws at you. Some of which may not be pretty. So how do you balance both? Anyway....

Sometime recently i had to go to akwa ibom for my brother's wedding and at the hotel we were staying, someone thought it wise to have scales on the corridors, just beside large sized mirrors . Unbelievable i tell you. I never get on a scale i decided that it was best to just know that i could fit into my dresses. Who needs numbers and besides what if you get on a scale that's not working properly. which is what i found out when i got on the damn scale. Crazy scale be talking about 61kg *rme*. I almost had a coronary. You see for a long time, i weighed 53kg and then i sort of went to 58kg. Try as i may i never got back to 53kg. My weight kept fluctuating between 56-58kg. In defeat i decided to just maintain that and never look at a scale. Occasionally, i would break my rule and get on a sclae and it'll still read 58kg at the most. So imagine my shock when i got on that crazy scale, looked down like a G and expecing to see 58, i saw 61kg. It was not cool i tell you.

Getting back to lagos, i decided to be a chairman and do something. So right now i've reduced my carb intake drastically. I eat so much protein, sometimes i just want to scream. Its good though. I've also gotten rid of the enemy coke/pepsi and instead for my soda cravings i do suagar free sparkling water. I eat a lot of nuts as well as drink tea for their antioxidant property. By tea, i mean tea bags sans milk & sugar not milo. If you follow me on twitter you'll know how much i love my milo but sadly all that has to go. Along with the object of my addiction, Cadbury's dairy milk fruit and nuts. Ocassionally i reward myself for being a good girl. Lol. Anyway it is for the greater good.

These are my besties now

and this, i'm trying to put behind me. Its funny but when it comes to my chocolate.. i'm extremely close minded. I rarely have any other type asides this fruit and nut type here.

I also found one of my fav scents. I was first introduced to it when it was given to me as a sample. You know the 5ml bottle they give you for free when you buy perfume. I really loved it and went back to the store to get a proper bottle but was told they didn't have it anymore. Every time i went to buy perfume, i kept asking but i was told no show. So imagine my joy when i got to the store the last time and it was staring me in the face. The smell is divine!

You know how we see ridiculous headlines in the newspapers and wonder where they occur..This other time, i was on my way to Lagos from Abuja where i had gone to work on the Ages of Fashion show. Sitting right next to me on the pane was this married couple. The guy was caucasian most likely in his 60's and the girl was a typical nigerian village girl complete with a headscarf and ill fitting ankara skirt and blouse. She couldn't have been more than 16yrs. I had a headache all through the flight just taking in the situation. Unable to hold back my curiosity, as we landed in Lagos, i whispered to the girl and asked Is he your husband? and she went "yes" my god. I just kept starring at the guy like why? what do you want from her?? I could not believe my eyes and ears. I stared so hard, the guy had to give me a dirty look.

Anyway on to another agbaya. Two days ago, after my shoot for the magazine, i wasnt feeling too well so i went to get some drugs at The Palms. I had to eat lunch before taking the drugs. Sat right next to me where this obviously old man and two young girls in extremely short shorts and NO they were not his daughters. They had fun eating and giggling away. You think you've seen it all in this Lagos but you go out everyday and still manage to get shocked. oh well....

PS- Just got back from a funeral. My MD, Mrs Betty Irabor lost her younger brother. It was such a reminder how fleeting this life is and as as cliche as this sounds, life really is short but however short, we are duty bound to make the most of the time we have here. God bless.

Keeping up with my promise to share more of my work. Here's Funke Akindele on the July cover of Genevieve Magazine, which i styled along with my Editor Ohimai Atafo.

Funke is the funniest person ever. I was in stitches half the time. We gisted a lot while she was in hair and makeup. She also showed me her Kukere moves as well.

PS- Not sure, but you may still be able to find the magazine in stores and on the street as we skipped the month of August. Next issue is out September. Make sure you buy Genevieve or better yet subscribe to see more of my work going forward plus Genevieve is always a juicy and inspiring read at the same time. xx

RE-BELLE

So I've been meaning to post this up for a while but I've been busy as usual. Sure you guys must have seen this all over the web. Its the new A/W 2012 collection from Republic of Foreigner tagged 'Re-belle'

I'm particularly in love with this collection. If you've been following the ROF brand since 2010 when they launched, i'm sure you're just as excited. The collection lives up to its name as well.You see the unusual hemlines, cut-outs and unexpected detailing.

I give them thumbs up too for styling. I definitely see rebel in the choice of shoes, spiked necklace, makeup and the way that the pieces have been paired. There's a nice mix of feminity and masculinity going on. Love it.

As a sharp stylist, i'm glad to say that i have already snagged a few sample pieces for a shoot last week and i hope to share with you all when it gets published. xx
