He might be considered as a "lame duck" president but US President George W. Bush still knows how to duck. He was agile enough to dodge the two succeeding shoe projectile hurled by the Iraqi journalist, Durgham Zaidi, last December 14 during a press conference. Although the president has maintained his composure and even joked about the matter, he was obviously shocked by the incident.

Although the show-throwing did not injure the chief executive, it was an assault on his dignity. It was a form of insult and protest that expressed the sentiments of the people of the Middle East. Clearly, many are not in favor of Bush's war policies in Iraq. These include many Americans. One proof of this is the recent popularity of a newly built website, Sock and Awe. The name is a pun of the US military campaign against Saddam Hussein's regime, "Shock and Awe."

Removing the Windows Genuine Advantage Notification

Are you using a pirated version of Windows or have you unknowingly purchased an unlicensed version? Well Microsoft Corporation is already filthy rich. It will not make big difference. In fact, many programmers are trying to combat the monopoly of this gigantic corporation. You can find many alternative "open source" software applications and operating systems. Most of these software applications and operating systems are still not at par with Microsoft products but they are good alternatives if you are already pissed off with the unreliable and exploitative products of Microsoft.

However, for most of us who are still at the mercy of Microsoft, we have to put up with the profiteering schemes of this juggernaut. One of the strategies to maintain profit is the Windows validation. If you are connected to the Internet, you will occasionally be prompted to download updates. If you choose to update, your Windows operating system will be subjected to validation process. If your operating system is unable to pass, three sets of irritating notifications will pop up. One notification is a permanent balloon located above task bar. Another notification will occasionally pop up as a smaller balloon above the task bar clock. The third notification will appear every time you start your computer. This notification looks something like the picture below:

In most cases, the reason for this is that your software is a pirated version. On the other hand, this might also be caused by changing the product key to software-generated key. In other cases, there is simply no apparent reason.

You do not really need to panic, you will still be able to use your computer. However, you will be unable to update Internet Explorer and Media Player. You will also be unable to customize most of your settings such as the Wallpaper. The permanent notification is also very irritating.

You can remove the notifications by following the simple steps stated below:

1. If you have only just installed Windows Genuine Advantage notifications, simply using the system restore function will remove the program. Then refuse to accept the WGA update next time Windows updates... Otherwise, proceed as detailed below. (NOTE: If you try these steps while you are in "Safe Mode," step #8 is unnecessary).

2. First Try the Following:

3. - Open a CMD Line Window by Clicking on Start ==>Run ==> type CMD and Press OK.

4. - Change Directory into the System32 Folder (Like Cd c:\Windows\System32)

5. - Open a notepad Window and type the following lines:

6. taskkill -IM wgatray.exe

7. del wgatray.exe

8. del wgalogon.dll

9. - Highlight and copy to the Clipboard the three lines above

10. - now Paste the the contents of the Clipboard to the CMD Window

11. This should kill the wgatray.exe Process from the Taskbar and imediately delete both files wgatray.exe and wgalogon.dll without the need to to go through all steps bellow.

12. If that does not work, then continue and follow the steps bellow

13. Open System32 by either A or B of the following methods:
o a) Click "Start", "Run", then type-in "System32". Click "Okay".
o b) Find System32 manually by clicking "Start" > "My Computer" > "(X:)" (Replacing "X" with the drive letter of the host of Windows) > "Windows" > "System32".

14. In "System32", go to "Tools" > "Folder options" > click on the tab, "View" > Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types". Now you can begin...

15. Check to make sure the window that comes up has a full screen of various files. The files are in alphabetical order, which makes it easier to locate the specific file.

16. Find "WgaLogon.dll" and rename it "WgaLogon.dll.bak".

17. Create an empty copy of WgaLogon.dll:

o Right click on a blank space in System32 and select "New" > "Text Document".
o Leave the text document empty and label it "WgaLogon.dll". Press Enter (on your keyboard).
You may get a warning from the above step that says, "If you change a file name extension, the file may become unusable. Are you sure you want to change it?". Click "Yes" on this warning.

18. Be ready to complete the next two steps very quickly! Find "WgaTray.exe" in "System32" and delete it. You will then have 5 seconds to find "WgaTray.exe" in the Task Manager (the next step). NOTE: If you remove the files mentioned above while you are in "Safe Mode," step #8 is unnecessary.

19. Immediately open Task Manager. You can do this by pressing the Ctrl, Shift, and Esc keys simultaneously, pressing the Ctrl, Alt, and Delete keys simultaneously, or right clicking the Taskbar and selecting "Task Manager". Click on the process tab and click end process when "WgaTray.exe" is selected.

Note: If you take longer, do NOT panic! All that will happen is that "WgaTray.exe" will keep reapearing in the processes list (i.e. you won't be able to delete it as required). To remove the notifications after this, return to system32. You will find two files:"WgaLogon.dll.bak" (the one you renamed) and an Application Extension (0KB) called "WgaLogon.dll". Delete the Application Extension, rename "WgaLogon.dll.bak" to "WgaLogon.dll" and repeat the steps from the fifth one onwards (at a greater speed!!).

20. Restart your computer once you have finished. All the notification messages should be gone.

You simply need to copy-paste a set of JavaScritpt codes to the URL address bar of the browser as shown in the illustration below. This is the code that that you need to copy-paste:

After copy-pasting the codes, hit the ENTER key of your keyboard. You can then start editing directly on the web browser. Use your mouse to click the place holders of texts and graphics. You must also re-insert this address to the URL address bar: https://www.google.com/adsense/report/overview. This is to make your screenshot more convincing. You must also do the math accurately. If you observe closely, I have not done the math correctly. The numbers do not add up.

After editing, you can now make a screenshot by pressing the PrtScr (print screen) key. Open the Paint application from the accessories menu and paste the edited screenshot. Save the file in JPEG format and upload it to your website or blog post. You can now start scamming people to invest in your web-based monkey business. Well, you have the screenshot to prove it!

You must remember that the edits are only visual. The actual site is not affected by the editing. You can also use this technique to edit your PayPal secured page and impress your friends about your PayPal earnings. The JavaScript that I have revealed works for all web pages.

BEWARE! PayPal-Nigeria Scam!

My wife and I have recently started this online store for second-hand laptops and collectible items. For the past few days, we have been receiving SMS and email messages inquiring about the items we are selling. Some already made orders and reservations but we are still waiting for actual payments. Most of our prospective customers are relatives, friends, and former co-workers. I have been helping my wife promote our online store through Craigslist, eBay, Multiply, and other auction sites.

Hence, I was not surprised when I received email inquires from two prospective customers outside the Philippines. They have three things in common: (1) they both want the items to be shipped to Nigeria, (2) they both want to pay through PayPal, and (3) they are both willing to pay immediately.

On the other hand, I was a bit puzzled because these two prospective customers were too eager to buy without asking questions about the specifications of the items we are selling online. They seemed to be very trustful. One prospective customer has purportedly sent me payments via PayPal but I was unable to confirm it from my PayPal account.

Here is the screenshot of the said email. As you can see, I supposedly have a pending payment amounting to US$ 710 (seven-hundred and ten US dollars) via PayPal:

I was being asked to send the tracking number of the item I was shipping before they can credit the money to my PayPal account. At first glance, the email seemed to be legitimate but if you look closely at the email address, the sender used a bogus PayPal email. Here is the screenshot:

I did some research on this and I was able to find an online forum that discusses this Nigerian PayPal scam: http://forums.gumtree.com/topic18831.html. If ever you are selling a legitimate item online, please BEWARE of this type of scam. Do not be fooled in sending your items without confirmation from PayPal. You can easily do this by logging into your account. Legitimate PayPal transactions are also confirmed by emails that use PayPal.com as the domain.

Cross-Posting Blogger and Multiply

To put is simply, a tag cloud is a collection of tags associated to your post – provided that you include tags on your posts. It is different from category links or archive links. Tag keywords are displayed on varying sizes based on the number of blog posts that include them. For instance, if you commonly use the tag “HTML” on your blog posts, that tag will appear to have the biggest font size compared to other tags.

Tag clouds are built-in features in some blog platforms such as Wordpress.com and i.ph. Unfortunately, tag clouds are not readily available in Blogger (Blogspot). This is intended to simplify Blogger templates and offer versatility to users. On the other hand, if you want to include a tag cloud on your Blogger blogsites, you can follow the simple steps enumerated below. Just make sure to first save your original template before proceeding. Just in case anything goes wrong, you can always go back to your backup template. You need to copy-paste three sets of codes on your Blogger template to include the tag cloud widget.

STEP1: Login to blogger and go to the “Page Elements” setup page. Backup your template. Then go to the Edit HTML settings. Make sure that you do NOT check the expand widget box.

STEP2: Find the style sheet section of your template. Go to the ]]></b:skin> tag. Copy-paste the codes shown below just before the ]]></b:skin> tag.

STEP4: The preceding codes are only the setting codes. Now, you are ready to install the tag cloud widget itself. Locate the <b:widget id='Label1' locked='false' title='Labels' type='Label'/> tag. This is called the label widget in your sidebar. Copy-paste the codes shown below and replace the aforementioned tag. Save your template after embedding the codes.

If you carefully followed the instructions, you can now preview your blogsite and will be able to see the tag cloud. If the tag cloud does not appear, you probably have not carefully followed the instructions or you probably do not use tags or labels in your blog posts.

POSTCRIPT:

You probably do not want the default settings of this tag cloud widget. But all of these can be configured. You can change the colors, font sizes, and other settings.

The settings in the Variables section will be where you make most of your adjustments. Here I'll explain what each setting does.

This setting you can use to limit the number of labels shown (for example if you have a lot of labels). Leave the setting at 1 to show ALL labels. If you enter in a higher number, then only labels that have at least that number of entries will appear in the cloud.

The lines for
maxFontSize
maxColor
do what you may think they do. The first one sets the size (in pixels) of the label with the most amount entries. The maxColor sets the color of that entry (in RGB format). Similar with
the next two
minFontSize
minColor

Just these are for the label with the least amount of entries. Again the size is in pixels, the color is in RGB format. Any labels between the two will get their color/sizes based on how many labels they are, and where their entry count falls, giving the much desired cloud effect.

From my experimenting, there are many factors that make up a pleasant looking cloud. From color/size choice, to the number of actual labels, to how well be dispersed the entries are among the labels. 3 Labels don't make a good cloud as there isn't much to work with. You just have to experiment around to see what looks good with your setup.

IMPORTANT, when change the color settings, Keep them in the format supplied. In between the [] and the numbers separated by commas. The default colors are BLUE for the max and BLACK for the min. You can select any valid RGB color combination. If you don't know what RGB colors are, don't worry. It's just a way of defining a color. You can use many charts on the Internet to
get the correct RGB value for the color you want to try. Here's one that is fairly good.

Remember, if you get the 3 sets of numbers to enter them in correctly. Inside the [ ] separated by
commas.

Also experiment with different font sizes. Again it depends on how many entries, how dispersed they are, and how much room for the cloud is available as to what looks good.

The last variable there is

lcShowCount

This can either be false (default) or true. All this does is turn off/on the post count displayed next to the label. Usually in a 'traditional' cloud the count isn't used. But if you go to a 'flat' listing then it's sometimes useful to turn it on.

Now to the CSS section. Most people won't need to tweak these much, and it's not necessary to understand what all those entries are for. Most are just to make sure that other styling elements from the rest of your page don't inherit in and ruin the cloud. But there are a few that you may want to change to suit.

The first line

You could change the fonts used in the cloud here if you wanted. Also, the text-align statement can also be changed. I have it set to center by default but you
could use

text-align:justify;
text-align:right;
text-align:left;

If those suit better.

The next line

Well don't worry about most of it unless you are a hardcore CSS'er. The only one of real importance is the first entry

display:inline;

You can change that to

display:block;

To get the 'Flat' (each entry on it's own separate line) listing of the weighted entries. Usually if that is set to block you would probably want to change the sort frequency from
alphabetical to frequency. You do that by editing the widget from the Page Elements tab in
Blogger.

And the last bit I'll mention is the line

If you set the lcShowCount variable to true to show the post counts, you could change the color/size of those numbered entries with that line.
