Daisuke Naito

Daisuke Naito (born August 30, 1974) is a professional boxer from Japan. He is the current WBC flyweight champion, and former Japanese and OPBF flyweight champion.

Naito made his professional debut in October, 1996. He compiled an undefeated record, and challenged future WBA flyweight champion Takefumi Sakata for the Japanese flyweight title on July 16, 2001, but failed to win the title in a 10-round draw.

Naito traveled to Thailand in 2002 for his first world title shot, challenging Pongsaklek Wonjongkam for the WBC flyweight title. Naito was knocked out only 34 seconds into the first round, setting the record for the fastest knockout in a world flyweight title match ever.

On June 6, 2004, Naito dominated his opponent to win the Japanese flyweight title. He made his first defense later that year, knocking out the challenger only 24 seconds into the first round to set the record for the shortest Japanese flyweight title match ever. He made two defenses before returning his title.

Naito challenged Wonjongkam for the second time on October 10, 2005, but lost by decision after the fight was stopped due to an injury in the 7th round. Naito won the Japanese flyweight title for the second time in February, 2006, and won the OPBF flyweight title in June, 2006, by 6th round TKO.

Naito made one defense of the OPBF title before returning it in February, 2007. He also announced his decision to challenge Pongsaklek Wonjongkam for the third time, but found it difficult to gather sponsors. The match was finalized on July 6; only 12 days prior to the actual match-up. Naito defeated Pongsaklek Wonjongkam on July 18, 2007 by 12-round unanimous decision, winning the world title five years after his first world title shot. Wonjongkam had made 17 defenses of the WBC title, and had not lost in over a decade.

On October 11, 2007, Naito defeated Daiki Kameda by unanimous decision for the first defense of his WBC title. Naito thoroughly outclassed the younger fighter (Kameda is 15 years his junior) despite being fouled throughout the fight. He received illegal blows to the thighs on several occasions, and was thrown down onto the ring in a wrestling-like maneuver in the 12th round. Koki Kameda's upcoming fight was cancelled after video footage was produced showing that he encouraged his younger brother to foul Naito in-between rounds, and Daiki Kameda's boxing license was suspended for one year. The fight received widespread coverage by the Japanese media because of the heated exchanges between Naito and the Kameda boxing family. Daiki Kameda had described Naito as a "cockroach" prior to the fight, and stated that he would commit harakiri (ritual suicide) if he were to lose. The victory gave Naito celebrity status in Japan, and he has appeared in numerous Japanese television programs and commercials since then.

Naito fought Pongsaklek Wonjongkam for the 4th time on March 3, 2008 for his 2nd title defense. Naito retained his title as the bout ended in a draw, with one judge scoring the bout even, another scoring it in favor of Naito, and the other in favor of Wonjongkam. His 3rd defense came against Japanese flyweight champion Tomonobu Shimizu on July 30, 2008 at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium in Tokyo. The open scoring system was used for this bout, and the score announcement after the 8th round revealed Shimizu to be leading on points. However, Naito landed a left hook and a combination to score a knockdown in the 10th round, and won the fight by knockout in the same round with another combination. This bout was on the same card as WBA flyweight champion Takefumi Sakata's 4th title defense, and Koki Kameda made a surprise appearance on the ring to congratulate Naito during the post-fight interview.

On the 23rd of December 2008, Naito won in his 4th title defense by stopping Shingo Yamaguchi in the 11th round.

For his 5th defense, Naito faced Xiong Zhao Zhong of China on May 26, 2009. Despite taking on a rather small opponent (4'11), Naito was sent to the canvas in the 6th round. But in the end, he still escaped with a unanimous decision.

As the WBC flyweight champion, Naito holds a record of 34-2-3 and is generally considered to be one of the greatest flyweights of his era.

Koki Kameda

Koki Kameda (born November 17, 1986 in Osaka, Japan) is a Japanese professional boxer in the flyweight division. He is the oldest of the three Kameda brothers. His younger brother, Daiki Kameda, is a professional boxer in the super flyweight division, and the youngest brother, Tomoki, is also training to become a professional boxer. Kameda is the former WBA light flyweight champion. He gave up the title shortly after defending it once to move up to the flyweight division. He has an undefeated record of 20-0-0 (13 KOs).

When the referee reached the eight count, the bell sounding the end of the match rang. However, the referee stopped temporarily the count when he signaled Andrade to return to his corner.

Bute defeated three-time world title challenger Fulgencio Zúñiga on March 13, 2009. In round four, Bute knocked Zúñiga down with a left uppercut to the body. Zúñiga got up, but Bute continued the assault, eventually leading to a stoppage by the referee.

Librado Andrade

Librado Andrade (born September 2, 1978 in Guanajuato) is a Mexican boxer in the super middleweight division.

Though ranked in the top twenty-five in the division for the last couple of years, Andrade has faced little real opposition leading up to his bout against WBA/WBC champion Mikkel Kessler. Prior to the Kessler fight, he was best known for his first round knockout of former contender Richard Grant and defeating former middleweight champion Otis Grant. He also gained some recognition for being asked to be Bernard Hopkins sparring partner in preparation for Hopkins' rematch with Jermain Taylor. Andrade declined this request at the behest of his manager Al Haymon, who told Andrade: "You can't have the mentality of being a helper for another fighter. You have to have the mentality of a champion.". In 2005, Kessler himself had used Andrade for a three-round sparring session while training in Los Angeles for a fight with Anthony Mundine.

In the Kessler fight, Andrade showed an incredible ability to endure an all-out assault. Kessler landed 348 punches, almost all to the head of Andrade. Throughout the punishment, Andrade showed no facial, or mental wear and tear and continued to press the fight each round by coming forward, at Kessler. Prior to the last round, the two fighters, in a rare display of respect in boxing, embraced each other rather than simply touching gloves. The judges at ringside, Tom Kaczmarek, Tom Miller and John Keane, all had the bout score 120-108 in favor of Mikkel Kessler. The fight was aired live on HBO's Boxing After Dark.

On October 6, 2007 on a Marco Antonio Barrera vs Manny Pacquiao II main even undercard fight, Andrade won the vacant USBA 168-pound title with a 7th-round TKO of Yusaf Mack.

On March 22, 2008, Andrade scored the biggest victory of his career against former IBF number one contender Robert Stieglitz of Germany. Andrade dominated the fight from the opening round with uppercuts and body shots that left Stieglitz continually on the defensive. Landing a solid right in the eighth round, Stieglitz was left staggered. Andrade followed up with flurry of shots that led to referee stop the fight, giving Andrade a TKO victory. As this was an eliminator bout, Andrade has been lined up for a fight with IBF Super Middleweight champion Lucian Bute.

The IBF championship fight on October 24, 2008 saw Bute dominate nearly every round. Andrade demonstrated his endurance but could not break Bute's strategy. However, in the 12th round, Andrade landed several effective combinations that rendered Bute groggy and exhausted. Bute nearly hit the canvas a couple of times on his own and finally got knocked down by a strong right hand with two seconds left. Controversy ensued as the referee Marlon Wright interrupted the count to warn Andrade, because according to his interpretation, Andrade did not remain in a neutral corner. After the fight, the referee declared that in his opinion, Bute would not have beaten the count had Andrade not moved out of his neutral corner to gain an unfair advantage. Andrade said: “He ( Bute ) was clearly out. It was outrageous! If this is the way to lose a fight, then this is the way I want to lose. I know I won the fight because I came with the intent to knock him out and I did.”

Andrade defeated Vitali Tsypko in Montreal on April 4, 2009, in an IBF Super Middleweight eliminator, thus prompting a rematch with Lucian Bute, which is scheduled for November 28, 2009 in Quebec City.

The IBF championship fight on October 24, 2008 saw Bute dominate nearly every round. Andrade demonstrated his endurance but could not break Bute's strategy. However, in the 12th round, Andrade landed several effective combinations that rendered Bute groggy and exhausted. Bute nearly hit the canvas a couple of times on his own and finally got knocked down by a strong right hand with two seconds left. Controversy ensued as the referee Marlon Wright interrupted the count to warn Andrade, because according to his interpretation, Andrade did not remain in a neutral corner. After the fight, the referee declared that in his opinion, Bute would not have beaten the count had Andrade not moved out of his neutral corner to gain an unfair advantage. Andrade said: “He ( Bute ) was clearly out. It was outrageous! If this is the way to lose a fight, then this is the way I want to lose. I know I won the fight because I came with the intent to knock him out and I did.”

Andrade defeated Vitali Tsypko in Montreal on April 4, 2009, in an IBF Super Middleweight eliminator, thus prompting a rematch with Lucian Bute, which is scheduled for November 28, 2009 in Quebec City.

Ronald Lamont "Winky" Wright (born November 26, 1971, in Washington, DC) is an American boxer, the former undisputed light middleweight world champion and a current middleweight contender.

Though born in DC, he grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida, which he continues to call home.

Humberto Soto

Armando Humberto Soto Ochoa is a Mexican professional boxer and the current WBC Super Featherweight champion. Soto also won the WBC interim featherweight title by beating Rocky Juarez on August 20, 2005, a fight he accepted with two weeks notice. He is known for his unorthodox boxing style, being referred to as a "gumby man" by boxing manager Emanuel Steward.

On January 17, 2006, Soto defended his interim title by knocking out Oscar Leon in the 9th round. He vacated his interim featherweight title and defeated Ivan Valle in a WBC superfeatherweight title eliminator bout.

On January 22, 2007, Soto defeated Humberto Toledo (30-2-2) by third round knockout. In his next bout, he defeated Bobby Pacquiao by seventh round knockout.

On November 17, 2007, Soto fought reigning WBO Super Featherweight champion Joan Guzmán but lost the bout by unanimous decision.

On June 28, 2008, Soto faced off against Francisco Lorenzo (33-4, 14 KOs) for the vacant interim WBC Super featherweight title. Soto knocked Lorenzo down twice in the fourth round with a barrage of punches. However, after lengthy consultations with officials at ringside, referee Joe Cortez disqualified Soto for hitting Lorenzo after he was down in what appeared to be a grazing punch. Cortez's decision was widely criticized and the WBC refused to award Lorenzo the title.

WBC president Jose Sulaiman condemned the decision as a "gross injustice" and one of the biggest he has seen in a long time. Sulaiman also announced that the WBC board of governors will vote on whether to declare the fight a no contest or to declare Soto the winner by knockout. Lorenzo, therefore, was not presented the green WBC belt as its champion, since it, though, opted to ignore the official verdict, and declared the title vacant. Sulaiman stated he wasn’t seeking to overrule the decision, but: “While we respect the authority of the (Nevada commission) for a decision of the fight, we are the only ones to have the authority to decide on the decision relating to the WBC world title.”

On October 11, 2008, Soto defeated Gamaliel Diaz to win the interim WBC Superfeatherweight title by technical knock out. Soto knocked Diaz down in the first round and dominated him throughout the bout. Diaz was deducted two points for excessive holding and his corner refused to send him out for the eleventh round.

On December 20, 2008, Soto captured the vacant WBC super featherweight title with a 12-round unanimous decision over Francisco Lorenzo in a rematch of their controversial bout. Lorenzo was repeatedly warned for low-blows and headbutting throughout the bout. Lorenzo was deducted one point in the 7th round for headbutting and another in the 8th for excessive holding. The final scores were 117-109 from two of the judges and 118-108 on the other card in favor of Soto.

Jesús Gabriel Sandoval Chávez (born November 12, 1972) is a Mexican professional boxer. He was born in Hidalgo del Parral in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico. Chávez has a career record of 44 wins, (30 knockouts) and 5 losses.

Chávez's first title opportunity came against WBC Super Featherweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. where he was knocked out in the 9th round after an entertaining and close, competitive bout. He rebounded to win Mayweather's vacated WBC title, but lost it to then two-time champion Erik Morales. In another exciting fight, Chávez rocked Morales early in the first round. Morales recovered and knocked Chávez down twice in the 2nd round, but Chávez came back and fought hard for the rest of the fight, despite having an injured hand. Morales pulled out a close decision, but Chávez gained further respect for his effort. In his next fight, he took on former IBF Champion Carlos Hernández, who in turn had also lost his own title to Morales. In an exciting 12-round war, Chávez pulled out a close decision. He then moved up to the Lightweight division to take on IBF champion Leavander Johnson. In an unfortunate bout, Chávez outhustled Johnson throughout the entire fight, beating him severely for the entire fight until the referee finally stepped in and ended it. Armando Humberto Soto Ochoa is a Mexican professional boxer and the current WBC Super Featherweight champion. Soto also won the WBC interim featherweight title by beating Rocky Juarez on August 20, 2005, a fight he accepted with two weeks notice. He is known for his unorthodox boxing style, being referred to as a "gumby man" by boxing manager Emanuel Steward.

On January 17, 2006, Soto defended his interim title by knocking out Oscar Leon in the 9th round. He vacated his interim featherweight title and defeated Ivan Valle in a WBC superfeatherweight title eliminator bout.

On January 22, 2007, Soto defeated Humberto Toledo (30-2-2) by third round knockout. In his next bout, he defeated Bobby Pacquiao by seventh round knockout.

On November 17, 2007, Soto fought reigning WBO Super Featherweight champion Joan Guzmán but lost the bout by unanimous decision.

On June 28, 2008, Soto faced off against Francisco Lorenzo (33-4, 14 KOs) for the vacant interim WBC Super featherweight title. Soto knocked Lorenzo down twice in the fourth round with a barrage of punches. However, after lengthy consultations with officials at ringside, referee Joe Cortez disqualified Soto for hitting Lorenzo after he was down in what appeared to be a grazing punch. Cortez's decision was widely criticized and the WBC refused to award Lorenzo the title.

WBC president Jose Sulaiman condemned the decision as a "gross injustice" and one of the biggest he has seen in a long time. Sulaiman also announced that the WBC board of governors will vote on whether to declare the fight a no contest or to declare Soto the winner by knockout. Lorenzo, therefore, was not presented the green WBC belt as its champion, since it, though, opted to ignore the official verdict, and declared the title vacant. Sulaiman stated he wasn’t seeking to overrule the decision, but: “While we respect the authority of the (Nevada commission) for a decision of the fight, we are the only ones to have the authority to decide on the decision relating to the WBC world title.”

On October 11, 2008, Soto defeated Gamaliel Diaz to win the interim WBC Superfeatherweight title by technical knock out. Soto knocked Diaz down in the first round and dominated him throughout the bout. Diaz was deducted two points for excessive holding and his corner refused to send him out for the eleventh round.

On December 20, 2008, Soto captured the vacant WBC super featherweight title with a 12-round unanimous decision over Francisco Lorenzo in a rematch of their controversial bout. Lorenzo was repeatedly warned for low-blows and headbutting throughout the bout. Lorenzo was deducted one point in the 7th round for headbutting and another in the 8th for excessive holding. The final scores were 117-109 from two of the judges and 118-108 on the other card in favor of Soto.

Chávez's first title opportunity came against WBC Super Featherweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. where he was knocked out in the 9th round after an entertaining and close, competitive bout. He rebounded to win Mayweather's vacated WBC title, but lost it to then two-time champion Erik Morales. In another exciting fight, Chávez rocked Morales early in the first round. Morales recovered and knocked Chávez down twice in the 2nd round, but Chávez came back and fought hard for the rest of the fight, despite having an injured hand. Morales pulled out a close decision, but Chávez gained further respect for his effort. In his next fight, he took on former IBF Champion Carlos Hernández, who in turn had also lost his own title to Morales. In an exciting 12-round war, Chávez pulled out a close decision. He then moved up to the Lightweight division to take on IBF champion Leavander Johnson. In an unfortunate bout, Chávez outhustled Johnson throughout the entire fight, beating him severely for the entire fight until the referee finally stepped in and ended it. He turned pro in 2002. After only three fights the lanky counterpuncher was thrown in with an undefeated Olympian in Timor Ibragimov who had already 13 victories. To the great surprise of the audience he held Ibragimov to a draw. Three fights later in 2004 he handily beat well-known clubfighter Robert Wiggins who was 19-3-1 at the time. After being somewhat inactive in 2005 he had another good win over a clubfighter in Robert Hawkins 2006 against whom he pitched a shutout.

At the end of November 2007 he was 17-0-1 and widely regarded as America's best heavyweight prospect largely to his dominant Jab but lacks power as is documented by only 6 KOs.

On April 18, 2008, at the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma, Johnson defeated Terry Smith by unanimous decision. Johnson used his long jab and hand speed to maneuver his way around the aggression of Smith.

Timothy Ray Bradley Jr.

Timothy Ray Bradley Jr. (born 29 August 1983) is an American boxer, fighting out of Palm Springs, California. He is a former WBC and current WBO World Light Welterweight Champion.

Bradley had extensive amateur experience before turning pro, having competed in over 145 bouts and losing only 20.

Pro Career

Bradley had his first professional bout on the 20th of August 2004, knocking out Francisco Martinez in the second round. He remained undefeated throughout his career winning all of his fights, all of them being in the USA.

At 21 fights undefeated, he was given a chance to fight Junior Witter for the WBC World Light Welterweight Championship in Witter's hometown in the United Kingdom. It was Bradley's first time fighting out of the USA and he entered the bout as a heavy underdog.

It was a slow pace to start the bout, with Witter beginning in the southpaw stance before flipping to conventional midway through the round. Things picked up in the sixth round. Bradley was able to impose his will for the first time in the bout, landing a left hook to the body and head, about a minute into the round. It would get a lot worse for Witter. An overhand right sent Witter crashing to the canvas. He bounced up immediately, but was forced to clinch his way out of the round. Bradley thoroughly outworked Witter over much of the remainder of the fight to pull out a split decision victory.
