RIM announced it’s latest handsets under the Curve range last month and we knew that these were on it’s way to India. Today in Delhi , the company announced the handset the availability of the Curve 9360 in India. The Curve 9360 will come with a price tag of Rs.19990

The features of the Curve 9360 include a 5 MP Camera , 2.44 inch display, BlackBerry 7 OS, microSD card slot, Bluetooth , WiFi and support for 3G/HSDPA networks and a full QWERTY keyboard. RIM has tied up with Airtel to offer a free trial of a BlackBerry plan for a period of 2 months along with the handset.

Surprisingly the Curve 9360 supports NFC which is also present on the more expensive Bold 9900. It is powered by a 800 MHz processor and a 1000 mAh battery. Anyone thinking of picking up the new Curve ?

How to install and configure Blackberry professional server

BlackBerry professional Server™ Express is for the company that wants to get up and running quickly with BlackBerry Enterprise Server, and includes one Client Access License (CAL), with the ability to add up to 30 additional CALs and/or upgrade to BlackBerry Enterprise Server at any time.

Attention: Do not install the Terminal Server program.
The process is the following:
1. Prepare BlackBerry enterprise server
1. Install Microsoft Exchange server 2003 or 2000 SP4 specifically dedicated to a BlackBerry Enterprise server
2. Install MSMQ Version 3
To install Message Queuing on a computer running Windows Server 2003

a. Click add or remove programs in control panel
b. In the add or remove programs dialog box, click add/remove windows components
c. In the windows components wizard dialog box, in the components box, click application server, and then click details

b. Select Administrative Groups.

For Microsoft Exchange 2007
To set an Exchange View Only Administrator role:

a. Click Start > Programs > Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 > Exchange Management Shell.
b. In the command prompt window, type the following and then press ENTER:
add-exchangeadministrator <BESAdmin> -role ViewOnlyAdmin
where < BESAdmin> is the name of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account.

To check an Exchange View Only Administrator role:

a. Click Start > Programs > Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 > Exchange Management Shell.
b. In the command prompt window, type the following and then press Enter:
get-exchangeadministrator | Format-List
c. Verify that the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account has the ViewOnlyAdmin role.

Task 4

To assign Microsoft Exchange Server permissions at the Microsoft Exchange Server level, complete the following steps:

get-mailboxserver <Exchange2007> | add-adpermission -user <BESAdmin> -accessrights GenericRead, GenericWrite -extendedrights Send-As, Receive-As, ms-Exch-Store-Admin

Where < Exchange2007> is the name of the Microsoft Exchange 2007 Server and < BESAdmin> is the name of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account.

If inheritiance to the individual mail stores is not enabled, to set the Send As, Receive As, and Administer information store permissions at the store level, complete the following steps from the Exchanage management shell:

get-mailboxdatabase <Exchange2007>\<dbname> | add-adpermission -user <BESAdmin> -accessrights GenericRead, GenericWrite -extendedrights Send-As, Receive-As, ms-Exch-Store-Admin

Where <dbname> = ‘First storage group\Mail box database’

To verify the Send As, Receive As, and Administer Information Store permissions, complete the following steps:

a. Click Start > Programs > Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 > Exchange Management Shell.
b. In the command prompt window, type the following line and press Enter.
get-mailboxserver <Exchange2007> | get-ADpermission -user <BESAdmin> | Format-List

To verify the Send As, Receive As, and Administer Information Store permissions at the mailbox store level, complete the following steps:

Task 5

To grant the Send As permission on a single account for all BlackBerry smartphone users in a Microsoft® Active Directory® domain or container, complete the following steps:

a. Open Active Directory Users and Computers.
b. From the View menu, select the Advanced Features option.

Note: If Advanced Features is not selected, the Security tab will not be visible for domain and container objects.

c. Right-click the appropriate domain or container and then click Properties.
d. On the Security tab, click Advanced.
e. If the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account that requires the Send As permission is not listed, click Add and then select the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account name.
f. Click OK.
g. Double-click the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account name.
i. Select the Send As check box.
j. Click Apply and then click OK.
k. Close the Properties window and then close Active Directory Users and Computers.

4. Install BlackBerry enterprise server
Install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server while logged in with the BESAdmin service account.
1. Execute the setup.exe
2. Follow the instruction:

a. Enter user info and accept agreement
b.Prerequisites are ok
c. Enter besadmin’s password
d. Installation path do d:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\
e. Logs path to d:\Program Files\Research in Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\
f. BB Professional software name: “enter server name”

3. Restart and log in with BESAdmin Service Account
4. The setup has restarted and the setup will continue automatically
5. Database Settings

a. Database location: local
b. SQL server: downtown\SQLEXPRESS
c. Database name BESMgmt (default) port 1433
d. Database authentication: windows trusted
It will then prompt that the database BESMgmt doesn’t exit and ask if I would like to create it Yes
It has been created.

6. Enter SRP authentication info (received at registration)

a. Click on validate srp key and ID

7. Enter microsoft exchange server name : sfsbs01.Cooper-Roberts.office

a. Mailbox is besadmin
b. Click on check name
c. Click ok It has populated the SRP address with srp.us.BlackBerry.net

8. Click start services to start the BB services and complete the installation by clicking on finish
5. Activate BlackBerry device
Start the BlackBerry manager:
It asks for a mapi profile. Enter the server name (example Downtown) and user: besadmin
1. Add a BlackBerry device user

a. Open BlackBerry Manager.
b. In the left pane, click on add new users wizard
c. Select the user
d. IT policy: default
e. Device deployment:

1)   Wirelessly … best solution as there is no need to have a physical connection with the BB device
2)   Using the BB manager
3)   Using desktop manager

f. User create successfully. Click device management withing a users account to assign them a device with the users messaging account, and install the appropriate service books

2. Enable wireless activation of the BlackBerry device

b. In the left pane, click the appropriate BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
c. In the right pane, click the User List tab.
d. Select a BlackBerry device user account.
e. Click Service Access.
f. Click Set Activation Password.
g. Specify a password to use for the BlackBerry device activation.

3. Enable folder redirection

a. Highlight the device and select folder redirection.
b. Select the folders you would like the messages to be redirected to the inbox on the device

6. Finalize Installation: Activate the BlackBerry device (see activation issue article)

d. Then click add user and choose the user you want to add

4. Activate the new user by setting Activation Password:

a. Choose the appropriate BlackBerry enterprise express server
b. Click the Users list tab
c. Select a BlackBerry device user account
d. Click Service Activity
e. Click set an activation password
f. Specify a password

5. Enter the information in the BB

a. On the bb, open Options
b. Select advanced options
c. Then Enterprise activation
d. Type the email and the password
e. Select activate
f. It should now synchronize with the server (it may take a long time)
g. You should now be able to send and receive messages, as well as checking contacts, calendars

Research In Motion (RIM) has not given up yet despite the recent setbacks. It is going to launch seven smartphones in India very soon. The BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 smartphone, which is the thinnest smartphone from RIM yet, is one of them and getting ready for a launch in the second week of August. It seems that the company is trying to reassure that it is still in the game.

Powered by the latest version of its OS, BlackBerry OS 7, this smartphone comes with a 2.8" VGA capacitive touchscreen. It features enhanced voice-enabled Universal Search, to make handsfree search easier. Also present is Near Field Communication (NFC), although it is going to take some time for this technology to be implemented in our country. It sports a 1.2 GHz processor, 5 MP camera, 8 GB internal memory and supports up to 32 GB SDHC memory cards.

RIM plans to sell the device with a 1.5 year warranty at under Rs 32,500, which is still a stiff price to pay. It seems that the BB Bold Touch 9900 is a good candidate to grab a sizeable customer base, due to reports praising its quick and speedy touchscreen response. Not having enough apps on a given platform is akin to sitting down to a perfectly set dinner table and getting no food. Luckily, that Android App player that RIM promised for the BlackBerry PlayBook seems to be nearing launch.

According to the N4BB blog, a beta version of the player was spotted on the BlackBerry.com website. The page has been pulled, but it’s undoubtedly found its way to countless mirrors for your downloading pleasure. To the Googles!
Those who’ve already installed it on their BlackBerry PlayBooks seem to collectively agree that it runs rather slowly, and is missing a couple of the features RIM had promised (like a back button.) From what we gather, this is likely an old build of the player and it might be worth the wait to just get the real thing.
For those of you who haven’t been keeping up with RIM, the Android app player is basically a way of bringing Android apps to the PlayBook. A while back, RIM promised that the BlackBerry PlayBook would be able to run Android apps. Well a leaked Android Player app shows that it is running Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread.

The most recent stats show that only 18.6% of devices are running Android 2.3.x and above. This is actually pretty pathetic since Gingerbread was announced 7 months ago. Will the PlayBook get Ice Cream Sandwich before most of us as well?

The BlackBerry PlayBook tablet isn't making any money, according to new reports. A cunning plan to sell lots of the iPad-challenging tablet has backfired, leaving BlackBerry way out of pocket.

Research in Motion, the company that makes BlackBerry devices, came up with the wizard wheeze of giving the first 500,000 PlayBooks to shops and phone networks at a discount price, which would then encourage customers to buy the first batch quickly, which would be followed by millions more PlayBooks at full price -- followed by everyone involved going for a swim in a big bath of money. What could possibly go wrong?
Turns out that the first batch hasn't sold and those further orders haven't materialised -- which means RIM hasn't made any profit from the PlayBook yet. It may be a powerful device but customers aren't keen on the lack of apps and the fact you need a BlackBerry phone to use it properly -- a nugget that RIM reportedly kept quiet until the last minute.
It seems the PlayBook has done so badly, a 10-inch tablet has been axed in favour of a smart phone.
Boy Genius Report revealed the PlayBook's problems in a look at RIM, a company "filled with attitude, cockiness, heated arguments among the executive team and Co-CEOs, and paranoia", and "teetering on the edge between greatness and collapse".
Notoriously thin-skinned RIM boss Mike Lazaridis is reported to have fallen behind recent trends in phone design, initially refusing to put cameras in BlackBerrys or give them names because they were mostly used by government and business types who wouldn't appreciate such fripperies. Earlier this month a BlackBerry boss wrote an anonymous open letter, describing how they had lost confidence in the company, and calling the PlayBook a "Fisher Price toy".
It's not all bad news for for RIM: this week the company announced seven new smart phones that will be powered by the latest BlackBerry 7 software. And BlackBerry's slice of the smart phone market here in the UK rose over the last year.

Analysis: BlackBerry under attack in corporate cradle

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The BlackBerry, once ubiquitous in business, faces deep challenges in that market as more companies allow employees to pick their own smartphones and add third-party security applications.

One of the BlackBerry's main selling points has been Research in Motion's top-tier security and management features, which appeal to IT managers eager to control what workers do with corporate information and protect business systems from cyber attacks.

But with companies such as Good Technology and MobileIron offering applications that could untether IT managers from their BlackBerrys, analysts say that consumer-market pressures could intrude into RIM's mainstay corporate market.

Only two of nine major U.S. companies contacted by Reuters said they exclusively use the BlackBerry, namely Boeing and Exxon Mobil.

The remaining seven -- Alcoa, Caterpillar, DuPont, Kraft Foods, PepsiCo, Microsoft and Verizon Communications -- support at least one other brand, such as Apple's iPhone or phones that run Google's Android or Microsoft Windows.

"I would say their enterprise base has been besieged really, first by Apple, then by Android," John Jackson, a mobile device analyst at CCS Insight, said of RIM. "What's happening in the consumer market is repeating itself in the enterprise market. They've been materially hurt in their core enterprise market."

RIM's share of the U.S. smartphone market stood at 25 percent in April, down from 35 percent in October last year, pushing BlackBerry to third place from first place in the market, according to research firm comScore.

Most of RIM's problems, analysts say, can be traced to their delay in rolling out new phones to compete with the iPhone or Android phones sold by Samsung, HTC and Motorola.

Chemical company DuPont, which has 67,000 employees, started to give some workers the option to use the iPhone in the fourth quarter of last year. In a few months, iPhones grew to about a quarter of Dupont's smartphones, according to Eric Smith, a telecommunications manager at the company.

"The technology that people have available in their personal and daily lives, they want to use at work. People had their own iPhones and iPads, and they said, 'Hey, why can't we use these for work?'" said Smith.

SECURING PERSONAL PHONES

RIM shares are down 60 percent from their year high, and dropped sharply in mid-June when it released dismal quarterly results and postponed a new operating system and touchscreen version of the Bold phone aimed at companies.

These delays pile pressure on IT managers to support additional phone platforms, which can be costly -- or risk security breaches if they say no and employees use their own phones anyway for company matters.

To help IT managers, there is a growing number of third-party security options, such as email encryption and technology, that allow IT managers to remotely control data on personal phones. For example, they can wipe corporate data from lost or virus-infected phones.

As employees get more choices, they take on more responsibility for security, said Bob Tinker, CEO of MobileIron, which raised $20 million in a fourth round of private funding in May.

"It's much more of an adult model, where you're given the latitude to do what you need to do, but if you cross the boundary, there are consequences," Tinker said.

The influence IT managers have over phone selection is shrinking. Company-bought smartphones fell to 7 percent of the market in 2010 from 15 percent in 2009, according to research and accounting firm Strategy Analytics.

Neil Mawston, a London-based analyst at Strategy Analytics, calls the trend consumerization. "BlackBerry has really been the one that's been hit really hard by that trend," he said.

Another survey by research firm Yankee Group found that 55 percent of IT managers cited RIM as their preferred operating system, but that fell to 34 percent when they were asked what they will prefer in two years.

Boeing has not found a security option that it trusts other than BlackBerry, said the aircraft maker's spokesman Kenn Johnson, adding that it was feeling pressure to allow more phone choices. "We always know there's a desire for that cool aspect, but it can't be at the fault of security," he said.

Jackson, the mobile analyst at CCS Insight, said it was imperative for RIM to develop more exciting phones.
