Andrew Symonds Dropped from Indian tour Squad

So it was confirmed today that Andrew Symonds would not be coming to India this time... bad news for Australian team. Andrew Hilditch chairman of selectors, Australian cricket, announces the same today at press conference at Melborne.

Andrew Symonds was stood down for disciplinary reasons in Darwin and is now going through a process...designed to give him time to assess whether he is fully committed to all of the things needed for a cricketer to be a member of the world's number one team, Hilditch said.

Good news is, Ricky Ponting, who is suffering from wrist injury and Matthew Hayden, suffering from Achille's tendon, have been selected for Australian squad. Both got these injuries at their tour to West Indies.

The Good and the Bad News -India vs Australia Series

Lets start with Good news first, that is for Australian side. Hyden and Ponting are showing improvement with the injury before India-Australia series. Australian Coach Tim Nilson confirm to press that both the players are on there way to recovery and doing pretty well.

I am sure Australian cricket team don't want to come to India without these two keeping in mind there past performances on Indian soil. Hyden, whom Indian bowlers found quite difficult from restricting to big scores and Ponting who is considered to be one of the best players against spin in Australia. Not to forget Andrew Symonds whose selection is not confirmed for Indian series, that's would be a big blow in case he didn't make it to the tour.

If you will ask me I am surely want Australia to come with full strength so that there is no excuses of experience and full strength after defeat :)

Now bad news for Indian Cricket, Kumble and party knows pretty well how quality players Ponting,Hyden and Symonds are. Almost amazing with the bat, fielding and Symonds with the ball, surely none of you have forget the performance of Symonds with ball in India-Australia series in Australia last time around.

Ponting scoring with an batting average of 58 plus, highest among his generation of players including Sachin. His current tally of hundreds is 35 with far more better average then Sachin. Though he scored two double centuries against India on home soil his best score is 60 in last 8 tests played in India, a score he made in 1998 in Eden Garden,Kolkata. He is definitely looking forward for a better show in India and there is no reason why he can't achieve this this time.

Hyden who is in my view most dangerous player in Test Cricket currently because of his stats. Isn't it amazing by the strike rate he scores runs in Test Cricket, no doubt thats might be better then many ODI Cricketers.

Symonds, career in jeopardy after discipline lapse and might not come to India. Thats the bad news for media and reporters but good news for Indian cricket team.

Selectors "Hint" to Saurav Ganguly?

While reading the story on cricinfo 'Ganguly out in 'sign to the team' one thought once again came across to me. Is this the end of Ganguly?

Answer is, may be? or may be not?

With the previous experience we definitely love to see Ganguly back with a bang, but chances look quite slim here. Reason being

Age
Fitness
and Form

Yes, he is not in best of rating on above criteria or this is the signal from selectors to him and other senior cricket players for their evenings of cricket career?

But once again question is, if I am thinking right why the Indian selectors again chosen Saurav Ganguly as an example? What about Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid?

One of the selector said to his interview to cricinfo:

"The decision to drop Ganguly is a signal to the team," the selector said. "He's 36-37 and we felt it was getting increasingly tough for him to cope with the fielding and fitness levels expected at the international level. We spoke to Kumble and Kirsten too, and they were with us on this. We felt we should put in place the process of bringing in the next set of players."

Huh.... is this for Saurav Ganguly only or for other senior players too? Including Kumble of course.

As the One Day International cricket series starts between West Indies and South Africa, West Indies are already short of their most trusted batsman and opener C Gayle. And Ramnaresh Sarawan is out earlier of ODIs.

Its not that they do not have other good players in squad but Gayle effect is something better then current squad.

I do expect them to give South Africa run for their money but final score live shall be West Indies loosing the One Day International series with South Africa.

Though performance of West Indies in Test Cricket was definitely much better then their show in recent past. They should take something out of that performance.

On the other hand South Africa have not lost a One Day International series at home since 2003. Moreover they have won last 6 matches against West Indies out of 7, last was lost in ICC champion trophy semi final in 2006.

What a answer Indian cricket team have given to Australian cricket team, "The Win" will go down as one of the best test win in the history of test match cricket if not the best. But surely this is one of the best in recent past.

Ponting judged the wicket wrong and Kumble shows the guts to choose to bat first on Perth wicket which as per the Australian media would be a "biting bitch" for Indian players who are not good to tackle the pace and bounce on the wicket.

It did prove as a bitch but for Australian, for a change. Many teams came to Australia with better bowling attacks then Indian, still not able to win cricket matches. Why?

Then what different Indian cricket team has done here in Perth to win the match?

I guess they bowled better line and length then Australian fast bowlers and Indian batsmen played balls on their merits. On the other hand Australian thought they know pitch better then Indian and played bad shorts.

They try to be too smart with cricket and look what, it bites them big time......

Few More things…..

Tait is just an ordinary bowler (touch faster then Kumble..lol) no matter how much you write about him in media.

Johnson is better batsmen then a bowler...But he not going to play for Australia as a batsmen, but can try his luck in Bangladesh team...

Right now Symonds is the luckiest batsmen in world cricket but it didn’t take much time for luck to offer you back…still 2 chances pending towards him from Sydney test…

No one can play swinging cricket ball with confidence, no matter how great or good they are....

Sehwag is my cricketing hero, he success more then he fail…better rate then Yuvraj I think…

Laxman got the exclusive wrist in cricket world….Second to Azhar of course…

Australian do crack under pressure….You just need to put them in there.

Where are we in Pace department?

Watching Pathan ,Pankaj Singh and Ishant bowling in practice game was horrible experience. no line, no plan,no length forget bout speed and swing. I wonder is this the best options available with us? or this as always another error of judgement by selectors?

Still remember a couple of years back we were full of options in pace department, yes more options then spin.

Where are Nehra, Munaf, Balaji?

Is it that Nehra and Balaji never recovered from their injuries? If Yes! whom to blame?

Munaf was the best bowler for us a season ago till the South African tour, looks like he have mantel problem then physical. We heard that he was once went non reachable for every one including state cricket association

What about Balaji ? is he still alive in cricket ? so is Nehra, is he still playing Ranji?

Sympth to Pankaj Singh who is on his way to become Ranadeb Bose, means a tourist a lot of money but no test cap. Happened with Ranadeb Bose in England tour.....anyway he got the worst bowling action I have seen in recent past, of course second to malinga of sri lanka.

Point is why he was selected if not going to play or shall we say not even considered for test slot. He definitely not going to play the Perth match.

What to say about Irfan Pathan, he almost forget how to bowl fast and how to swing. Though you can catch him swinging his car on TV while selling engine oil..

He was best of the young brigade with load of talent and promise.....he is still there in promise grade......Chappell you reading this?

Why selectors picked these guys who are out of form? Is there no others who are performing in domestic cricket competition?

Observation of second test highlights

I have seen the clipping of Symonds and Harbhajan again and again, again. There is no evidence that anything is said in term of racism.

What I observed that Symonds was chatting with Harbhajan till he reached in between his team mates and close to stump mic, he suddenly start shouting.

Is this something they planned or is that was a plan “B”…

Or is this something Symonds and Ponting did to cover the “Symonds comments over umpiring after his inning” which I am sure is also eligible for disciplinary action against him?

Finally proctor believe on Ponting who have a history of controversies (source wikipedia)…

Ponting was involved in a fight outside a pub in Kings Cross, New South Wales in early 1999, and earned a suspension from the national team.[43]
During Australia's tour of India in 1998, Ponting was reportedly thrown out of Equinox night club in Calcutta. The Indian papers reported that Ponting was misbehaving with several women in the nightclub. Ponting was fined for this incident, and later apologised to the nightclub staff.[44]

During the 4th Test of the 2005 Ashes series, at Trent Bridge, Ponting was angrily outspoken about the use of substitute fielders by the England side, particularly after being run out by such a substitute. He directed an abusive tirade at the England dressing room and was subsequently fined 75% of his match fee.[45]

After England won the match to take a 2-1 lead in the series Ponting returned to the subject of substitutes in an interview with Australian radio "I think it's an absolute disgrace the spirit of the game is being treated like that. It is within the rules; it's just not within the spirit of the game" he said. The England coach Duncan Fletcher later commented on this incident: "He [Ponting] completely blew his top. I did not actually think it at the time but, looking back now, that might be the moment when it became clear that England were going to regain the Ashes."[46]

In 2005 he began using cricket bats with a graphite covering over the wooden blade of the bat. This covering was ruled by the MCC to have contravened Law 6.1, which states that bats have to be made of wood, although they may be "covered with material for protection, strengthening or repair not likely to cause unacceptable damage to the ball". Ponting and his bat supplier, Kookaburra Sport, agreed to comply.[47][48]

Ponting has been fined for dissent on more than one occasion.[49]

After the final of the 2006 ICC Champions Trophy, Ponting drew some criticism for appearing to ask BCCI president Sharad Pawar to "leave the podium" so his team could commence celebrations. The issue, while minor, was solved when Ponting issued a formal apology to Pawar.[50][51]

Though there are couples of old rivalries in international cricket for which cricket fans wait with holding breaths, they are India-Pakistan and England-Australia. The current events have made them look small in stature and we might see a new rivalry which will dominate over India-Pakistan and England-Australia Ashes.

Ashes though have a great history but results in recent past had made it almost one sided affair, dominated by Australians.

England too sees a ray of light here and there…….

Though India has lost the first two test matches of series they have done some harm to the ego and theory of Australian cricket i.e dominate in every field of cricket and “keep ground affairs in grounds”.

First test we have seen that how India came back from behind in the first inning to put Australia on back foot which they later recovered. I need to sharpen my memory if I have see England doing this to them.

Second test match was dominated by India till the second inning; a favor here and there from umpires might have ended the match in Indian kitty.

What we have seen till this time that though Test matches lost but Indian were able to win the mind games and battles. Harbhajan hurt Ponting big time which he is not use to and I don’t remember when last an individual did what they said against the Australian captain.

Umpires, Match referees and few Australian players need a big applause for this……
Australian cricket team is hurt big time and surely they will come to Perth with wounds which make them more dangerous then ever.

India better beware, if this is what they can do to repeat the record what about making a new one…..

This whole event has done goods to their team spirit and now they know how to play the game “hard way”.

One thing is sure there is going to be more eye to eye and gesture to gesture then vocal commenting for which Australian team has already lost their fan following in international cricket.

Backnor a victom of "Racism" by ICC?

Though Backnor is a blind and deaf umpire who deserves to be out of scene for now, I recommend him a quality time at Caribbean beach and think of his career and decisions which changed the results of Test matches. ICC had no other choice but to remove him from India Australia series.

Question here is why only Backnor? What about Mark Benson and third umpire Oxenford?

Why only a black umpire is removed from the series, "Benson is not officiating in the third test so there is nothing we can do", this is what the ICC said when asked the question on Benson's suspension.

If we show sympathy beyond our limits, field umpires can be forgiven (this not going to happen BTW), error from third umpire Oxenford is just totally unacceptable and he is very much eligible for a ban more than any other player or official (we are talking about giving Symonds not out on stump appeal in second test).

A Cricketing View give us a chance to forgive Backnor (but not gonna happen I told you) “Bucknor's decision 1st ball when Symonds came in to bat was a masterpiece of umpiring. All the history was shut out and only that one ball was considered. All the proper questions were asked and Symonds rightly got the benefit of the doubt because he's a tall man and was well forward, was playing a shot and the ball had a really long way to travel”

On the other hand Third Umpires tell us to hate them"Test umpires are well paid professionals who should be able to do their job competently. When they fail to do so they should be subject to some form of disciplinary procedure, as most people failing to do their job properly would expect to face."

"A player's career is in the hands of the umpire, with decisions leading to the stats and performance indicators that decide if a player continues for their team or not. When this is a career at the highest level chances to come back are often at a premium. The old adage that luck evens itself out over a career is made nonsense if all the bad luck comes in a player's first few matches and they never have a career."

Uncle John support the Australian team behaviour though in a way of his own(I love this guy) "We are. We’re not fu©king @ssholes, mind you, but we are @ssholes. Australia has one culture, winning, be it Grammys, Oscars or World Cups, we do it at an amazingly high level. If we aren’t the best sporting nation on earth, we are pretty damn close. "

Just to add, in this test mach Backnor was an Australian @sshole.

All this is done (removing Backnor from current series) just to make the BCCI happy enough to keep going the tour, which shows the power of money and there is no harm in this, keeping US government in mind :) .

Benson is the man who made equaling blunders in Sydney test with Backnor and third umpire Oxenford hence should be equal partner to the punishment given to Backnor.

Is there anything ICC going to do about Benson and Oxenford? If they don’t then I have no idea what to call this other than “racism”.

One more question come to our mind is what if the ICC panel reverse the decision of Match referee? Is this going to be the case of hurting someone sentiment by overlooking the statement of subcontinent peoples over white skins?

I can imagine Proctor in future saying that while making the decision “I was Black, not a White”.

India lost 2nd Test against Umpires

I have never seen a test match more talked or written not for cricket but out of cricket things. By the time I am publishing this post India has already lost the test match which they played against umpires.

Australians didn't did anything in this test match other then enjoying the favours which served the test match to them. Still we would like to thank them to let match go the fifth and almost to the last over.

You can see few stats to iron my post title:

Symondes got out on 30 in first inning ( 30 - 162 = -132 runs Australia)

We should stop deducting the runs of Australian team from Symondes kitty as he also got out twice next day.

Ponting got out on 17 in first inning ( 17 -55 = -38 runs Australia).

Can you see the difference of 170 runs above? I see Australia loose the match as per these or result of test match could have been different.

Steve Backnor and Benson done what most of peoples might consider as unfair to Indian team. The most shocking was the partiality shown by these towards the Indians, today one appeal of caught was referred to the third umpire and two days earlier nothing was referred when Dhoni had a very strong case of stump against Symondes. Benson went too far by asking the Australian player about the catch of Ganguly on last day and didn't think of referring to third umpire.

Backnor specially done terrible mistakes which is for sure a case of lost concentration, he is a veteran of over 120 test matches in the time span of over 15 years. Surely time has come for him to hung his shoes and take rest, otherwise this is not the first time that fingers have been raised over this decision making ability. Everyone know that he is a kind person but no one like him to decide the result of test matches.

Though Indian official are thinking about launching an official complaints against umpires but as always they not going to take this far away and will wait till Indian fans shrink this into their memory.

In post match press conference Ricky Ponting got hot when asked about the question about the fair play by Australian players, why is that Ricky?

This match will go down in my memory as the match lost to umpires by Indian and I definitely like to forget this asap of course this curse of umpires in this match going to be historic and when ever there is any debate on umpires people will remember this one.

Day 4, 2nd Test Australia vs India at Sydney Review + Full Highlights

As expected day didn't turn up like that, Indian spinners were suppose to get turn and bounce of the trace to make life difficult for Australian batsmen. Jaques and Hayed see through new ball nicely and Jaques just fell when he was looking for another test fifty. Pointing got out on a beautiful doosra from Harbhajan and on his way to be the bunny of his which Pointing denied after first test match.

After that it was all Hussy and Hayden, both start making runs after a period where they look like getting out on Indian spinners. When nothing was happening, Kumble tried RP Singh but luck was not with them as a clear nick onto the leg side was denied by the umpire.

When Hayden finally got out after making his 29th test century while Australian score was 250, Clark lasted only one delivery and was caught on slip by Dravid off Kumble who was on hartick after that which Symonds see off thought that was a LBW shout.

At the end of day achievement from Indian bowler was the scoring rate of Australian batsmen i.e. 3.39 which is nowhere the liking of Australian from quite some time now and looks like a sign of being on back foot. Other sign which they shown is before half hour of closing time umpires offered light to Australian batsmen which they accepted, no idea why they did that?

I don't find any miracle tomorrow neither from Australia nor from India to push hard to win this one. Australians would be quite happy to go to Perth with a lead of 1-0 and try to win match on fast Perth wicket which I am sure would be tailor made for Australian fast bowlers and India.

Day 3, 2nd Test Australia vs India at Sydney Review + Full Highlights

Wow!! what a fight back by India today truly mind blowing. When Kumble departed on 345 who would have thought that India can get a pass the Australian total of 463. Miracle to happen in cricket and today was the day in cricket when first Harbhajan and then Ishant stayed on wicket with Sachin to help him first reach his century and then take it into a bigger heights, result of this once looking short of Australian score they finally took a lead of 69 runs.

Frustration can be seen on the faces and body language of Australian player as there are not many moments in recent past when they have fielded for a whole day without dominating the batting of opponent.

Man of the day stand to be Harbhajan, who after couple of shaky strokes applied himself and made Australian bowlers work for his wickets. Most amazing part is that he dominated the partnership with Sachin in their 100 runs partnership for 8Th wicket, a new Indian record. He finally got out on 63 of Johnson 3 short of his best test score of 66 which he made against Zimbabwe.

Sachin away from his usual dominating self in later part of his inning shown confidence in Indian low order and encouraged them to stay by rotating the strike a great moral booster for all the bowlers who performed out of their skin today.

Sachin scored his 5th century in Sydney and an average of 326 in this venue will please him for ever.

Lee was the only bowler who look like taking wickets whole day and Johnson,Clark and Hogg didn't bowled as per their records, might be wicket have to blame for this as there was no swing for faster bowler neither their was sharp turn.

Still condition of day 4 and day 5 will encourage the Indian spinners. Hoping to watch them bowl well tomorrow.

Luck back in Indian Team

Second day of Sydney test was quite eventful, we have seen some good batting display and for a change in this series "Luck back in Indian Team". Morning session was just forgettable for Indian bowlers where they struggle to take the remaining 3 wickets of Australian team, B Lee completed his half century and took his partnership over 100 runs of first session. A Symonds who puts Australia back on to in the first day of Second test was there till the end when Australia got out for 463 in 114 overs, definitely with a great scoring rate.

India started their inning as always and lost W Jaffer while team score was 8 in seven overs, though who have watched the beautiful ball by Brett Lee will argue that his foot was a touch over the line and can be called a no ball. Here we have to show some sympathy with empires who had a little time to watch the foot and then the batsman, advantage umpires this time. Result of it VVS Laxman came on and pleased everyone with his stylish store play, time was just perfect for him and for sure it is a pitch which will assist him in strokeplay as ball is coming nicely on to the bat.

R Dravid though again played with snail's pace and fortunate that didn't got out where both the time dropped by Gilchrist once on Clark and second time on Johnson. Finally Johnson got him just after he completed his half century, soon VVS Laxman followed him towards pavilion. At the end of the day Sachin (9) and Ganguly (21), who is second highest run scores in test in 2007 were at the crease.

Bad decisions by umpires continue on second day and Brett Lee was given LBW which should have been not out. As shared above that Brett Lee's delivery might have been no ball on which he took Jaffar's wicket. Dravid was about to leave after a appeal of catch which thankfully Pointing agreed that the ball hit the ground before coming to his hand in slip.

India back to wall again, thanks to fielding,tail and umpires

One thing is sure with first days play, we (cricket fans) and Indian cricket teams do not think alike. We wish India to put a better fielding performance all the time and they just keep letting us down again and again, what we saw today in fielding, can make a school playing cricketer laugh. Australians took two's from their hands, three runs where it should have two's and more frustrating they gave overthrow with cricket ball became a golf ball and was so hard to stop when its coming to them (fielders).

Day started on a fresh note today and Indian bowlers kept taking wickets till tea time, after that total math’s got changed and they were on the receiving side. India got blow yesterday night with Zaheer declared out of final eleven for second test mach who has spearheaded the fast bowling attack from last year or so. Kumble kept his faith of "Wall" and came up with only one change which saw I Sharma in playing eleven. RP Singh was the pick of bowlers and took 4 for 108 at end of first day. Harbhajan though took couple of wickets still far from being the bowler he used to be.

Till the 35th over of Australian inning it was look like Indian going to achieve which only few sides have achieved in recent years;putting Australian under pressure in test cricket. But day was holding something else for once 134/6 Australia was struggling but then Indian cricket team and fans kept waiting for 36.6 overs and 173 runs to see the 7th wicket of Australia. Bradd Hogg might be the bowler but the way he played in Sydney is make Indian top order look for corners.

What made many peoples angry in last test was also happened here in Sydney, Umpires decided the way test match will head. Ponting and Symonds got escaped what should be out but even third umpire made the mistake when Dhoni appealed for a stumping change on Kumble. Body language just keep showing the frustration and tiredness of Indian fielders on cricket field. Surely there is a lot to be done from here as this Sydney wicket is providing assistance to fast bowlers with bounce.
