Building a Chrome Shelving Unit

2012-06-28T13:46:00.000-07:00

First of the week I went on Walmart.com looking for a shelving unit as I definitely needed more shelving space in the kitchen. That last win of the Cuisinart ice cream maker left me with a serious lack of shelf space and a desire to redo the kitchen. I ordered the chrome unit seen here hhttp://www.walmart.com/ip/Whitmor-Supreme-5-Tier-Shelves-Chrome/15104321.
I took the unit out of the box after having fed ex deliver it yesterday. I was impressed with Walmart's two day shipping since I didn't place the order until Monday afternoon. The unit is solid chrome and extremely heavy. I finally had to cut the box to release the pieces out of the box. I then read the instructions and confirmed I had the pieces I was supposed to have. The unit was extremely well packaged and I was immediately impressed with the quality of the chrome and the sturdiness. I spent about ten minutes putting the two parts of the poles together and then added the wheels to the bottom of the poles. I laid the four poles out on the carpet then got the plastic plugs out that go inside the chrome shelf openings on the four sides of the shelves. You put the plugs into the four openings on the shelves to act as braces and hold the shelves in place.
In less than thirty minutes I was looking at a full assembled large chrome shelving unit. It is super sturdy and I am so impressed with the overall look in the kitchen. I had to take two pictures of the upper and lower shelves as the thing is seven foot tall and in my kitchen it is hard to take a picture of the whole unit. I have just started putting items on the shelving but as you can see from the pictures it is already holding plenty and it is so sturdy.
The shelving unit came with two options with either feet or wheels. I chose the wheels as they lock and I really like the idea of being able to move the unit to clean under it or change where I have it in the kitchen. This has been a long hot day the current temperature is current 99 degrees so I am thankful I had an indoor project to keep me busy.
I paid my money for this shelving unit but I want to thank Walmart for selling such a wonderful well made item. I am a life time Walmart customer and this is just one more reason I shop Walmart.

Hot and getting Hotter

2012-06-28T06:03:00.001-07:00

Wow the high today is 102 degrees. I do not know the last time I was in that sort of heat. I grew up in South Carolina and I was used to living at the beach and the heat. What is the weather like where you live and how are you dealing with the heat?

Goodwill donations

2012-06-24T16:28:00.000-07:00

I believe in giving back and helping others. I don't have a ton of things but I have discovered that the older I get the less of material things I need around me. They seem to clutter up the apartment and they always need put away or dusted. So lately I've been going through the closets and drawers and weeding through things I don't need or use. I have car full of things I'm taking to Goodwill tomorrow to donate. I have a lot of contest wins of things that I don't use anymore or of books that I have read. I found two laptop cases and since I very seldom take my laptop outside I'm donating them both to Goodwill. Hopefully, they can sell the cases and get some money to help others. I went through the dishes and discovered there were way too many for one person so those are going to.
What I was really surprised at were the clothes. I know I am really bad at buying clothes I have way too many and they closets are stuffed. But when I started going through clothes I don't wear I found quite a pile of clothes. Those are going to Goodwill also.
All in all, I really think I made a dent in cleaning out. I just have to learn to start doing this cleaning out on a regular basis. I think every couple of months I will start going through things and if I haven't used it I will donate it. It feels good to know I'm helping out others and I hate the thought of being owned by my possessions. I want to feel free and not tied down with things. I have a really hard time giving up books but with my Nook it is helping considerably since the last 8 books I bought were electronic and take up such a small amount of room. I need to turn next to the CD collection too. I want to digitize it and get rid of the physical CD's or most of them. I was really surprised how much easier it was to walk around the apartment and how much space it opened up. Wow, I think I'm on to something here with this decluttering and purging. At least I won't be on Hoarders any time soon. What are you favorite cleaning tips?

This weeks contest wins

2012-06-23T07:19:00.001-07:00

I had a fairly interesting week of wins. I had delivered Monday a Cuisinart ice cream and yogurt maker from a contest win I had won earlier. Then I had notices of winning a dvd, a book and a basket, along with a t-shirt I won for my grandson. Then yesterday the UPS truck showed up with a Bodum 6 cup coffee press that I won in a contest. All in all I would say it has been a decent week of contesting. I have to figure out how to make yogurt in the Cuisinart machine as I have not used it before but I will let you know how I do especially since I love yogurt and ice cream. I usually give away anything I win that I can not use but this time I think I will be keeping everything. How was your contesting this week? What was in your mailbox?

Contesting and more

2012-06-20T11:52:00.002-07:00

I know I have mentioned in the past how much I enjoy contesting. It is a hobby I play on a daily basis. It is like the lottery you can not win if you do not play yet the odds are high.I have found that if I just keep contesting all the time something will turn up. I have won some really nice prizes in the past and I hope to continue to do so. Last week I had three small wins. This week I scored a Cuisinart Ice Cream and Yogurt maker. I was so excited when it was delivered to the door. I can not wait to try making my very own yogurt especially as I eat yogurt several times a day. I just received notices of two more small wins so I'm all excited this week on my contesting. I can post several links on here to contest I find online. Let me know if anyone is interested in my posting links to contest on here. I usually enter quite a few each day.

The Lady in Black with Daniel Radcliffe

2012-06-19T15:27:00.000-07:00

I wanted to see another movie so I rented "The Lady in Black" through my Roku and Amazon.com. I purchased the Roku several months ago and it is super easy to use. It hooks up to the television just like a DVD player and really allows for oodles more movies and show to be watched. Some are free and some you pay for but one of my favorites is the Hulu Plus channel with some really great movies. However, I really did want to watch " The Lady in Black" and I knew amazon.com had the instant video of the movie so I went to amazon.com/roku and downloaded the movie. It takes under a minute all you do is pay amazon and then enter the five digit code you receive from amazon into the roku player. I was done and watching the movie in under a minute which was good as I couldn't wait to see Daniel Radcliffe in this movie.
For those of you not familiar with this movie Radcliffe stars as a young widowed lawyer with a young son who in his legal capacity is sent to a spooky old home to settle the affairs of a recently deceased woman with no heirs. It quickly becomes apparent that the house is haunted by a malevolent spirit bent on hurting all the children in the area because the spirits son died and his body was left uncovered in the nearby marsh. I sat on the edge of the sofa for half this movie and jumped three times. This is not the type of movie where you can quickly figure out the ending unless you have read the book before seeing the movie. The hair on the back of my neck stood up several times and while this is not a perfectly preformed movie there is enough substance to keep you wanting more. The poor children are committing suicide right and left and you the viewer are left wanting it to stop. The movie is dark, edgy and powerful. I suggest you see it and not just to follow Daniel Radcliffe, he was good but so is the movie.

Tim Burton's Dark Shadow's

2012-06-17T16:47:00.001-07:00

I've had a long and busy day. I met a lovely friend for brunch at a local restaurant. We sat and talked forever then went shopping together. After just about wearing both of us out we decided to take in a movie. I suggested I had wanted to see Tim Burton's remake of "Dark Shadows" a movie I grew up with as a kid and since I adore any movie with Johnny Depp. I sat spellbound throughout the entire movie and I rated it a solid five stars. There was so much going on on screen you really had to try and not blink. I loved Tim Burton's adaptation of Barnabas Collins he was so campy. Johnny brought the character to life with such campyness that he literally breathed life into Barnabas. I have always loved Jonathan Frid and to me he will always be the original Barnabas Collins but Tim Burton has proved there is room for more than one Barnabas Collins.
I loved the rest of the cast of characters especially Michelle Pfeiffer playing Elizabeth Stoddard. Watching Michelle fire off the rifle at the end was especially entertaining.
I cracked up laughing upon seeing Helene Bonham Carter as Dr. Hoffman. I've followed Helene's career for years and I'm quite convinced there is no part this woman can not play. The boozy Dr. Hoffman was straight on and I loved the part of Dr. Hoffman giving herself a blood transfusion from Barnabas so that the good Dr. would look young forever. Wouldn't we all like that power.
This movie is funny, campy and a true dark Gothic romp. I loved it and can't wait to watch it again. I hope Tim Burton has a sequel in the works. I want to see Collinwood rebuilt and more of all these amazing characters. I tip my wine glass to you Tim Burton.

Reading on the Nook

2012-06-16T07:46:00.000-07:00

Today I am going to walk. I've had several health issues in the pass couple of years and I tend to not walk as much as I should. It got hot here quickly and I retreated inside in a hurry. Once I cut the air conditioner on I tend to stay inside more and that is not a good thing. I did go out for a few hours last night but I spent most of the day inside cleaning the apartment and reading. I bought the Nook color about six months ago and I'm constantly sneaking off to read. I downloaded the new Steve Berry book "The Columbus Affair" and I've read most of the book. It's a fast paced murder mystery, suspense thriller and great combination of here and then. Berry does a great job of popping back and forth in history and I really recommend it if you enjoy this genre.
I don't know about anyone else but I find I'm reading even more if that is possible since I read daily since I bought the Nook. I still get fascinated that I can download a book from Barnes and Nobles as quickly as I can. It takes less than one minute to get a full sized book and start reading. Technology is great. I really wish electronic books were cheaper but I love the ease of not having to run to the book store every time I need a new read.
I'm sitting here watching both cats sleep so it is time to shake the place up and get everyone moving. What are you doing today? Leave me a message.

Guten Tag

2012-06-13T12:06:00.001-07:00

I've just spend four hours outside watering plants and working in the garden. The lawn service mowed the grass and ran the weed eater. I love living in an apartment complex where the major yard work is done by someone else. I hate mowing grass and have no intention of every mowing again in this life or the next one. I do love the smell of fresh cut grass though. There is something primitive about the smell of fresh cut grass or the smell of dirt. I love working in dirt and with flowers so I guess I am in my element doing both. So many of the bulbs I planted in mid-May are starting to produce flowers now it seems every time I look at the garden something has flowered. This morning while cleaning off the one wind chime I saw a hummingbird. They are truly like little flying jewels and I could watch hummingbirds for hours. Unfortunately, they are usually so quick to flit from one flower to the next it is really hard to keep an eye on them. I have put up three hummingbird feeders and will kept them full of feed and clean until the fall when the hummingbirds migrate south. I saw a red tailed hawk over the trees which always amazes me since I am very close to a city. I think the hawks are getting fat off the bird feeders as I have several times noticed a hawk sitting in the trees above my feeders. I'm sitting here typing listening to the wind blowing the wind chimes. I have two sets of chimes up and I could listen to the music for hours. I hope everyone's day is turning out to be as nice as mine. Don't forget to enjoy the small things in life.

2012-06-12T09:36:00.000-07:00

I am off to my third physical therapy appointment on my left arm in an hour. I don't know what I did to aggravate that tendon by my elbow but it has been two months of wearing an arm brace and heating then icing my arm. I have a whole list of exercises I am doing daily and I must admit it is starting to feel a little bit better. The last physical therapy appointment the Dr. put the ultrasound wand on my arm and massaged it for ten minutes. She used the same sticky lotion that they use when doing the ultrasound. The wand warmed up my arm and I must say the heat felt Divine. She then massaged the arm for ten minutes which hurt at the time but definitely eased the pain. I then said with an ice pack for ten minutes. I was sore but a good sore. The day before I went to the local post office and fell stepping up on the sidewalk. I had never noticed before but there is an eight inch drop between the asphalt and the sidewalk. I managed to go flying when I fell and scrapped the skin off my left knee and of course I hit my left elbow. I scraped up the skin on my right hand. I didn't notice till the next morning getting out of bed that my left elbow was so sore I was back to square one with pain. Today I noticed it is not quite as sore and I'm able to use my left elbow which is good since I use my left hand constantly. I'm thankful the pain is slowly easing and hopefully in a few weeks I won't feel any pain.

Guten Abend

2012-06-11T18:35:00.001-07:00

I had an absolutely wonderful time with the grand kids. My toenails and fingernails are painted an alternating glitter purple and pink. It really catches the eye if you know what I mean. Most of the fingernail polish went on my nails this time and not my skin. My six year old polisher is becoming a professional. Long weekend that went right into Monday so I am beat.
Good night.

2012-06-11T10:22:00.000-07:00

I've had the grand kids since yesterday evening. I went to their house and grilled out with their mom and dad. We had a fun, relaxing time sitting around chatting after we cooked out. The kids were outside playing with the neighborhood kids who showed up when the grill started up and stayed for dinner. Funny how lemonade, hot dogs and hamburgers seem to be perfect food for kids. Today I'm grilling chicken on the grill and cooked up some okra. Okra is one of my favorite foods left over from growing up in South Carolina. I could eat okra at every meal and never get tired of it. There are so many ways to cook okra. I will explore a few ways in a later blog right now I'm fixing to have my toe nails painted a purple sparkle and I can't wait. I'm enclosing a few of the pictures I just took of the grand kids playing with the bubble wands. They were having so much fun chasing each others bubbles and almost ran into each other several times. We were all laughing. Enjoy.

flowers in the garden

2012-06-10T10:37:00.001-07:00

I've added a few flowers for everyone to enjoy. I love a garden it brings peace to the soul.

2012-06-10T10:19:00.003-07:00

Wow, It's been so long since I used this post I about forgot I started writing it. I'm not a steady blogger evidently. I've been doing tons of things lately from working on the flowers on the patio. Most of these are in containers as I recently moved to a bigger apartment and have very little yard space to call my own. I still read all the nonfiction I can get my hands on and the occasional fiction story. I was introduced to The Fifty Shades of Grey series by the girl that manages my apartment complex. I was so taken with her description that I immediately downloaded the first book on my Nook. I read straight through the first book, downloaded the second and stayed up until 3 am finishing Fifty Shades darker. After a couple of hours of sleep I downloaded to my Nook Fifty Shades Freed. I finished late that afternoon. Since then I have reread all four books since I thoroughly enjoyed the trilogy and have since joined E.L. James's website. I saw her on tv doing an interview recently and she stated she had no idea what made the books so popular. All I can say is the characters are not the standard love stories that I had read in the past and I found the books entertaining.
I have been retired almost 2 years now and I'm still constantly amazed at how fast each day flies by. I never seem to get everything done I set out meaning to do at the start of everyday but I guess that in some ways is good as I am never bored. I still constantly enter contest as I long ago found out that the more you enter the better your chances are and you can't win if you don't enter. The contest originators don't come looking for you. I have been doing tons of twitting lately and you can find me at @pkline413. Join me in contesting and introduce yourself. I have lived all over Europe and have traveled to 38 of the 50 states of the United States. I never meet a stranger and truly love talking to people so come introduce yourself and sit a spell.

I had a recent computer crash and had to take the computer back to factory settings. Boy that was a shock I had so much stored on here pictures, blogs, written stories and all sorts of sites saved in favorites. I lost everything and have been in the process of trying to recover everything especially pictures which fortunately I was smart enough to back up. Now I know why they constantly say back up your work. I was going along fine doing ten things at once just like I normally do when I got the hourglass. I sat for over a minute waiting on the computer then being basically an impatient person I shut the computer off and then restarted it thinking I was fine. Well when the computer restarted it found faulty files and had to erase them. When the computer finished it asked me to restart and the computer wouldn't so I did the factory reset. What a shock it never once occured to me I could loose everything I had stored on the computer.
Anyways I've mostly recovered although I did loose over 100 favorites which I have still to find. I did manage to pull back up all my favorite sweepstaking sites but I lost all the daily sites where I was playing sweepstakes once a day. Oh well live and learn.
I've been really excited about my tupperware sales lately we have several good items on sale so if you're needing tupperware check out my site and have the tupperware mailed directly to you. http://my.tupperware.com/PKLINE413
I've been doing a ton of contesting and have had several wins lately which really keep me siked up enough to enter tons more contesting. If you contest or want to know how send me an email and we can compare notes and how tos'.
In fact I'd really like to know someone is reading me on this post so drop me a comment please. If anyone knows how to crochet or a good basic how to start book I've really wanted to learn crochet for years and now is the time.
I work for Live OPs so if any of you out there do please let me know also...thanks

contesting

2008-05-16T08:26:00.000-07:00

I've been entering contest nonstop for the last few days. Some of my favorites are online sweepstakes they have thousands of contest online and new contest daily and sweepsheet. I've entered so many contests lately I can no longer keep track of all the ones I've entered but that's kind of nice since I've had several small wins lately. I won a book, a dvd and some more items. Ups came the other day with a large bag of hair products and I was like a kid at christmas..... I've been busy also with reading two new books actually one is an older favorite by Patricia Cornwall "Jack the Ripper, Case Closed." I love love love that book I visited Madame Tussaud's in England and that book just reminds me of the exhibit I saw of Jack the Ripper's victims. Speaking of Jack Ripper check out the 11 year old guatar prodigy on facebook he is someone to behold. I was spellbound watching him preform a concern on tv and only 11.
I'm fixing to do another big tupperware open house so I will include the link to my site for those of you wanting tupperware...http://my.tupperware.com/PKLINE413
I'm going to do a contest on this site so leave me a note and let me know youre reading@!!!!!!

Good Intentions

2008-05-11T08:23:00.000-07:00

So much for announcing I would blog daily there are not enough hours in a day to finihs all I try to do each day. I run out of time continuously. I have tried to devote several hours a day to contesting and the same amount to reading. I have encountered several road blocks lately due to health isssues which involve my breathing I have COPD and asthma and allergies thanks to living in allergy valley or more commonly Dayton, Ohio. I have repeatedly had doctors tell me I have to move from Dayton, Ohio but I have one big question for them when your entire family is living in Dayton, Ohio where do you move to? I can't just pick up and leave. It is not an option so I continue to battle breathing problems which are only getting worse. I've talked to dozens of people who live in this area and they have the same sorts of trouble breathing mine just seems a bit worse.
I've learned which days not to go outside in and to run 2 hepa filter air purifiers at all times in my apartment. I wear a breathing mask on really heavy pollen days or just stay inside which makes walking for excerise a bit tricky. Thanks to Tony Little and his gazelle I have conquered that problem. I am able to continue to walk in my apartment getting excerise while I watch HSN. I'm sure this is a wonderful combination.
Well, I'm off to sell some tupperware holding an open house. I am including my tupperware link if anyone needs to order online. You can purchase and have the tupperware shipped where you want it send which is a gread idea.

later.

contest and more

2008-05-06T19:31:00.000-07:00

I spent about 5 hours doing contest today which has become about average for me daily. I love contesting and really enjoy the time I spent on them. I still mail in a few contest a week but on the majority of my contest I'm now entering online which is working out wonderfully. I had 3 small wins last week but let me tell you I get just as excited over a small win as I do a big one. I'm still trying for a trip so I will let you know if I win one if I still feel the same about all wins but as of right now I'm just grateful to win.
I've met a lot of wonderful people through the sweepstakes community and believe me those people take contesting seriously. I have joined several sweepstake new letters and they really help in finding the contest the easiest way. I have two favorites Sweepsheet and Online sweepstakes. You join both list and get daily and weekly contest to enter. You are really only limited by the time you have to spend entering contest. More later . (http://mywoodenspoon.com)
great contest link...

Monday evening already

2008-05-05T20:16:00.000-07:00

Well, it's Monday evening already. The weekend flew by and so did today. I can never find enough hours in the day anymore to get everything accomplished. I spend 5 hours entering sweepstakes today and had a blast entering them. Every time I enter a sweepstake I always envision what I would do with the win which certainly helps the will to win. I curl up in my favorite chair with a cup of strong coffee from Boca Java and start entering all the sweepstakes I can find both online and through the mail. I probably do about 500-800 sweepstakes a week and it really has to be a passion to do that many. There are days though I might only manage to enter 20 drawings and other days I might enter 200 drawings in one afternoon. So you can see you really have to enjoy sweepstakes to continue on a daily basis.
I managed to spend about 2 hours on my tupperware sales today. I am currently planning an open house for the weekend so I'm constructing brochures to pass out to the local area. If you're not in my local area don't hesitate to log onto http://my.tupperware.com/PKLINE413 just follow the online link where you place your order online and the tupperware you order is shipped directly to you. I've sold quite a bit this way and its a great shopping tool for anyone whos not near a city or town.

new footstool

2008-05-04T13:55:00.000-07:00

I was just outside giving a new footstool a bath. It's one of those orange leather footstools on caster that was popular in the 1960s or 70s. It's in excellent condition and really cleaned up nicely. Someone who once rented here has long since moved on and left the poor footstool homeless. I saw it and just had to have it. I'm always looking for extra seating for tupperware parties or when family is over. Living in a one bedroom apartment has its advantages such as easy to clean but there is always limited seating so when I saw this leather footstool about to hit the trash bin I grabbed it. I really am proud of the bright orange color also it will clash with everything I own so it will really stand out and hopefully see steady use.
I didn't blog yesterday and I had really thought I would write daily but there are not enough hours in a day or night as far as I'm concerned. I sold tupperware yesterday. I had a drop by for coffee and see what's new in the tupperware line. It went really well and sold quite a bit. Here's the link if anyone is looking for new tupperware.
http://my.tupperware.com/PKINE413
We all know you can never have enought tupperware and I really have to say those new insulated mugs are wonderful. I personally bought 2 yesterday and I've used both already. The lid has the small whole for a straw and is spill proof. I have one sitting by me right now with ice water.
I also spent part of yesterday doing my sweepstakes. I had 3 small wins yesterday and if you know me you know I get excited with any win no matter what size. If anyone shows interest I will start listing links here on the blog to some of my favorite sweepstakes. I'm also thinking of offering a small contest once I get established as I know I'm not the only one who gets fanatical about sweepstakes. well, time to turn on HSN for a bit...see you......

A little bit about me

2008-05-02T17:54:00.000-07:00

I was born in an Air Force hospital in Japan. I moved to Topeka Kansas at age 2 with my immediate family. That makes me an Air Force brat and proud of it. At age 4 I moved to Greenville, South Carolina then at age 5 to Charleston, South Carolina. I spent most all of my primary school years at Summerville South Carolina then joined the USAF for more travel since I'd not had enough travel as a child.
I spent 6 weeks at Lackland AFB in Texas then on to technical school in Biloxi Misissippi for a year followed by 4 years to Ramstein AFB Germany. I left Germany to live at Upper Heyford England (Great Britain) for 3 more years. After a little over 7 years in Europe I located in the wonderful state of Ohio near Dayton which is in the southwestern part of the state close to Cincinnati.
I can truly state that I love to travel and never get enough of traveling or meeting new people. I would rather die poor knowing people all over the world than just having met a few dozen people. I am a people person and love love love talking in case you haven't noticed. I've been so lucky to meet so many different people and continue to share many rich relationships years after meeting some of these wonderful people.
Anyways, enough about me for the moment. I'm starting this blog as a way to reach out and talk to others as I've put down roots here in Dayton, Ohio and plan on staying at least for awhile.
I have grandchildren nearby along with my daughter and as anyone knows who has family nearby there is nothing better.
I've posted my link to my Tupperware site also since I am a Tupperware dealer so whereever you are I can supply your Tupperware needs. You simply order from the site and get the Tupperware shipped directly to you. This is wonderful for those of you not near a dealer.
Well, I'm not just about selling but since Ive worked retail since I was 15 and I'm now 50 I have a little bit of experience in the field and like sales tremendousy. I will try to blog daily and look forward to talking and meeting as many as you all as possible. That's southern for those of you in the rest of the world!!!!!!
