14,000 jobs up for grabs in Canada

MANILA – Thousands of jobs are waiting for Filipino workers in Canada. Among the jobs up for grabs are for engineers, architects, teachers, and healthcare professionals.

Fashion techonology graduate Nel Garcia has been preparing all the necessary documents while looking for job openings overseas.

"Gusto ko London o Canada kasi mas mataas kita doon. Kasi mas mahirap maghanap ng trabaho dito," said Garcia.

Filipinos like Garcia can now land a job in Canada as Saskatchewan has opened 14,000 job opportunities in the province.

"Mga accounting clerks, cashiers, lahat ng klase ng mga engineers, lahat ng klase ng mga arkitekto, lahat ng klase ng information technology-skilled professionals, sa health doctors, nurses, dentists," said Nicon Fameronag of the Department of Labor and Employment.

Applicants can go to saskjobs.ca to view the entire lists of occupations open for hiring.

DOLE said the job opportunities are not only for Filipinos because it is also open to all other workers of different nationalities.

Canada hiring more Filipinos to fill out 14,000 job vacancies

MANILA, Philippines - Job opportunities await many Filipinos planning to work in Canada with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Canadian government.

With the MOU, Labor undersecretary Danilo Cruz said that the signing of the agreement will open possible work prospects for Filipino workers as the Canadian government is looking at the Philippines and other Asian countries to fill out at least 14,000 job vacancies in Saskatchewan to keep up with the labor demands of its still growing economy.

“Over the last four years, the Philippines has become the largest source country for both immigrants and temporary workers for Canada, overtaking China and India as the traditional sources,” he said at the sidelines of the signing held in Makati City on Monday.

Cruz, together with the contingent from Saskatchewan province of Canada led by its Premier, Brad Wall, signed the MOU which aims to upgrade the provision of the previous MOU between both countries in 2006.

According to the Canadian official, some employers from Saskatchewan, which is one of the economic powerhouses in Canada, are currently here in the country to hire workers for an initial 150 job vacancies.

Thousands of jobs offering abroad to the Filipino employment overseas , But you can't secure it is safe or real.

The POEA and Jobstreet.com are forging a partnership against illegal recruitment.

"This is why we're here. Kaya natin itigil ang illegal recruitment. We take the responsibility to help our jobseekers to be more informed about safe, and real overseas jobs," said Enriquez.

Almost 1.8 Million Filipinos have been deployed overseas and the highest number of employees is the household workers registered. Enriquez said that JobStreet.com has more than 40,000 jobs posting overseas from POEA licensed agencies. All

"So pumasok ako doon sabi ko illegal recruitment ito. Di ko alam kung tinablan sila pero ibibigay ko sa Anti-illegal Recruitment branch yung information na yun para maimbistigahan itong Canada immigration Facebook page. Naniningil pa ng halaga ng pera," he said.

According to Atty. John Rio Bautista, chief of the POEA's Workers Education Division, they have listed 10 provinces with the biggest number of illegal recruitment cases. He identified these provinces as Palawan, Laguna, Rizal, Cavite, Pampanga, Bulacan, Pangasinan, Batangas ,Benguet and Nueva Ecija.

"From 2010 to 2012 ang atin data. Nag-base kami dito sa walk in complainants namin. Based on the number of cases handled by the POEA central office," he said.

Filipino Nurses take the first batch to Germany this year

The Philippines is sitting to deploy the first batch of nurses to Germany this year According to Vice President Jejomar Binay. "We hope that the initial batch of 50 nurses will be deployed in 2013 and the next batch of 500 deployed by 2014," Binay said. The Vice President met the German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle on Tuesday to discuss the deployment process. "For the Philippines, it means an opportunity for our nurses to secure beneficial employment. And for Germany, it addresses the shortage of nurses in the country," Binay said. Last March The Philippines and Germany previously signed an agreement in Manila to deploy Filipino Nurses to the European Country according to "Abs-cbn news source".

"The implementing rules and regulations of the agreement are being finalized now," Binay told Westerwelle.

Their meeting discusses and tackled maintaining countries skills and competency level of Filipino seafarers. Binay has confidently assured the Minister of Germany that the Philippines has abiding and complying with the 1978 International Convention on Standard of training m Certification and watchkeeping for seafarers (STCW).

According to the results of (EMSA) or the European maritime safety Agency inspection took on April, The Philippines was failing to meet the European Union (EU) standards of maritime Education, Training and competency certificates. Binay said that the Government has been taking concrete steps to resolve the issue.

"By just looking at the figures, US$244 million or 25% of all remittances by Filipino seafarers from Europe in 2012 were from Germany. This is one good reason why we need to maintain the high-level of skills and competence of our seafarers and, in doing so, also help keep the competitive edge of the German commercial shipping industry," he added.

"We are confident that the Philippines will pass the next EMSA audit in October this year as there is clear progress towards full compliance with the Convention," he said.
