Karen Davilla discovers life after cancer on The Correspondents 11th Anniversary

The killer Cancer, for the longest time, has been a death sentence, a nightmare for even those who are wide awake, for both the victims and their families. It was a quick ticket headed to a place where people wear no hair, injections become part of a daily routine and where deterioration accelerates geometrically. Statistics show 104 people die of cancer each day, four in every hour. This is a place—with no exits. That was then.

Until correspondent Karen Davila traveled to Fuda Cancer Hospital, in the City of Guangzhou China, a fast-rising mecca for cancer-patient hopefuls from different corners of the world, with one wish: to find a cure, the key to a better life.

With its state-of-the-art technology and backed up by one of the most advanced researches done in the field of cancer—Fuda Cancer Hospital is proud to introduce the new cryo-surgery. The tumor is injected with cryoprobe that causes the tumor to harden. The hardened tumor is then melted. Meanwhile, remaining tumor particles then undergo the brachytherapy where radioactive iodine seeds are injected into the particles, completely ridding the body of these cancer cells.

It is at this point in their lives that we met with Nestor Bonifacio, 69 years old. He almost lost his ability to talk and walk, he is no stranger to cancer treatments and medicine from America, then he found Fuda. Today he is a stage-4 prostate cancer survivor.

Kathleen David, 41 years old, cancer started spreading from her breast to her brain, eyes, lungs and liver. She has undergone numerous chemotherapies to no avail, then she found Fuda. Today, she is a breast cancer survivor.

While others share stories of success in the treatment of cancer, Conchita, 66 years old, stricken with stage 4 lung cancer---is still in the process of writing her own cancer survival story--- as she continues her treatment at Fuda.

As the statistics of cancer deaths continue to rise, and it is only logical that it will continue to do so in the next few years--- a new statistic is undeniably taking form. A statistic that tells us: “yes, it can be cured” and ultimately: “yes, there is life after cancer.” Now that is the statistic everyone looks forward to getting!

Edu Manzano runs VP for Gibo

Actor-Game Show host and former chairman of the Optical Media Board (OMD) Edu Manzano accept the offer of Lakas Kampi CMD and Gilbert Teodoro to be his Vice President to the 2010 National Election. It’s been awhile since the proclamation of Gibo as the standard bearer last September 16 where several possible candidates decline his offer to run VP under him until November 13 at the Shangrila Hotel in Makati where Manzano was officially announce as his running mate.

Manzano was one of the possible senatorial candidates of the Liberal Party where under the Noynoy Aquino and Mar Roxas tandem. Roxas sends his regards to his future opponent to the vice president position on the 2010 election, according to Roxas in his interview at the ABS-CBN News Patrol he mention that Manzano is a worthy contender for the 2010 election.

Manzano joins the rivalry of Mar Roxas (Liberal Party tandem with Noynoy Aquino), Jejomar Binay (United Opposition tandem with Erap Estrada) and Loren Legarda (National People’s Coalition but with no President tandem yet) while Chiz Escudero and Manny Villar haven’t chosen any running mate until now.

Manzano became Makati City Vice Mayor in 1998 and was defeated by Jejomar Binay when he seek the Mayoral position of Makati in 2001. He was appointed as the first OMD chairman in 2004, a government agency tasked to combat optical media piracy and he resigned last August 2009. Manzano is known by his hosting talent to the defunct game show in ABS-CBN, Pilipinas Game KNB and one of the hosts of Umagang Kay Ganda, a morning news magazine show in the Kapamilya Network

Surviving 2012

2012 officially launches today in all theaters. The movie may be similar to the biblical story of Noah's Arc where God created the great flood to vanished the sinners and only Noah and his family survived. Also the idea of 2012 to be particular December 21, 2012 in thr film is similar to the Mayan civilization where the earth will end on that year where 2012 is the last year left on the Mayan calender which the Mayans clarified. The film has nothing to do with the story of Noah's Ark and Mayan civilization and I am addressing this idea to the conservative movie goers and those who saw the documentary and claims 2012 is not worth watching.

2012's storyline runs on a 3 year timeline, compressed on an estimated total running time or TRT of 2 hrs and 3 minutes of the actual showing. The film started in 2010 with Adrian Helmsley (played by Chiwetel Ejiofor) going to India discovering the progressive heating of Earth's core as presented by Dr. Satnam Tsurutani (played by Jimi Mistry) Adrian's friend. Adrian brought this concern to the White House and urges President Thomas Wilson (played by Danny Glover) to present the possible situation to the nation and the world, but the president and his colleagues declines the proposal hoping that the possible catastrophe could be prevented. Shifting of Earth's crust is primary effect of this global cataclysm where it affects the earth's plates that leads to earthquakes and volcano formation. With his kind of event is affects the people including Jackson Curtis (played by John Cusack) who is the author of Farewell Atlantis and a part time driver to the family of Yuri Karpov (played by Zlatko Buric) who is a retied Russian boxer. In order to preserve mankind despite of this global cataclysm where it begins at the Yellowstone park where Jackson plans to camp with his children Jackson, the G8 leaders decided to build ships that their people can aboard in order to survive. And the rest of the story will be shown when you watch 2012 in all cinemas.

This is a film that has mere realistic approach in the story line aside from the volcano eruption which I love the most. Graphics, graphics and perfect execution that what makes 2012 adrenalin rush movie where you will not follow the characters but you are craving for more stunts and visual effects of the earth's destruction.

The film is produced by Roland Emmerich, Mark Gordon, Harald Kloser, Larry J. ABS-CBN AIRS FORUM WITH HILLARY CLINTON

ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp., the country’s largest multimedia conglomerate, will bring you "Hillary Clinton: The Manila Forum An ABS-CBN Exclusive" tomorrow, Friday (Nov 13), live on ANC (SKYCABLE ch. 27) at 8am and on ABS-CBN channel 2 at 9am.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visits Philippines

Handa na ang lahat sa pagdating ni US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton sa Pilipinas ngayong November 12 na kung saan nagdeploy na ang 6,000 na pulis sa buong Metro Manila na kung saan maaaring daanan ni Clinton lalo na ang Department of Foreign Affairs, Malacanang at US Embassy. Nakaantabay din ang NCRPO sa kanilang surveillance camera upang bantayan ang mga lugar na maaaring pagdausan ng mga rally ng mga militante kagaya ng US Embassy.

On Visiting Forces Agreement

Ilang araw bago dumating si Clinton sa bansa ay kabilaan na ang protesta ng mga militanteng grupo na umaalma sa maaaring pagpapalawig ng Visiting Forces Agreement ng US at Pilipinas na maaaring isa sa dahilan ng pagbisita ni Clinton sa banya. Mariing itinaggi ito ni US Ambassador to the Philippines Kristie Kenney at ayon sa kanya wala na sa isip nila ang usapin ng VFA at tanging nakadepende na lang sa Pilipinas at sa ibang bansa kung ano ang gustong pag usapan ng mga pinuno nito kasama si Clinton sa kanyang mga state visits.

November 9, Bonifacio Shrine Lungsod ng Maynila, opisyal nang kaipag alyansa ang samahan ni Mayor Alfredo Lim na KKK sa Liberal Party na kung saan susuportahan nina Lim at ang running mate nitong si Isko Moreno na tatakbo sa pagka-Vice Mayor ng Manila sina Noynoy Aquino at Mar Roxas na tandem ng Liberal Party sa 2010 Election.

Isang proklamasyon para sa lokal na pamahalaan ang naganap sa Bonifacio Shrine na kung saan nag anunsyo si Lim ng pagtakbo sa 2010 bilang mayor pa rin ng Maynila kasama si Moreno, at hindi isang pangangampanya. Minamanipula ng media at survey companies ang pulso ng bayan ito ang parating ni Jesus is Lord founder at bishop na si Eli Villanueva, ito ang pahayag niya noong dumalaw siya sa Dubai noong anniversary ng JIL doon. "Deliverate conspiracy" ito ang linya ni Villanueva na kung saan nadidismaya siya na kulelat siya sa ratings na ginawa ng SWS Survey kasama ni Metro Manila Development Authority Chairman Bayani Fernando Jr., at may balita rin nakarating sa kanya na kung saan ibinalita sa kanya ng ilang miyembro ng JIL na wala siya sa choices sa mga survey sa pagkapangulo. Papalapit na ng papalipit ang araw ng election na kung saan mayroon na lang tayong less than 6 months bago ito. Tulad ng mga dating election makakakita tayo ng mga lipatan at iwanan ng mga partido at alam natin matapos ang lipatan ng alyansa ay patuloy pa rin ang lipatan kahit nasa posisyon na. Ang mga dating administrasyon nagiging oposisyon, habang ang mga dating oposisyon ay humahalik na sa paa ng mga dating kinakalaban nila. Ito ang laro ng pulitika sa bansa mga bagay na dapat bantayan at busisiin ng sinumang boboto sa 2010 election. Matapos ang pagpaparehistro ito ang sunod na step ang mag observe at mag tanong bakit nila ginagawa ito, at ano ang mga nagawa nila. Efren Peñaflorinda Jr. shows that nothing can hinder education even poverty, binuo niya ang Dynamic Teen Company in 1997 where he was only 17 kasama ang mga classmate under the supervision of Club 8586. Nakita ni Efren ang hirap kung paano magkaroon ng maayos na edukasyon dahil na rin sa kahirapan, he became viajero of fish crackers from Baclaran to Cavite and sell it in their school for his family at para na rin masustentuhan ang kanyang pag aaral, he discover that despite of their financial problem it is not an excuse to afford proper education.

Paghahanda na ba ito sa pagtakbo niya bilang Congresswoman sa Pampanga sa 2010 Election? 7 months na lang ang natitira sa panunungkulan ni President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo sa posisyon bilang pangulo ng Pilipinas pero habang papalapit na ang pagbaba niya sa posisyon mas lalong timutindi ang mga issue na binabato sa kanya at kasama na rito ang mansion na pinapatayo sa Nicolas 1, Lubao, Pampanga.

Nabalita na ito sa Philippine Daily Inquirer at nawagan din puntahan ng TV Patrol World ang bahay na di umano pinapatayo ni President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo at habang nag sisiyasat ang TV Patrol World sa lugar na iyon ay nilapitan sila ng isang lalaking nagsasabi na pag aari niya ang bahay na iyon, pero nang magsimulang magsiyasat na news team ng ABS-CBN ay umiwas na ang lalaki. Habang may natagpuan naman silang sasakyan na may pass papasok sa Malacanang at pilit itong itinatanggi ng driver.

Habang nagsalita naman ang Malacanang sa balitang ito ayon kay Usec. Lorelie Fajardo, Presidential Deputy Spokesperson at inamin nila na ginagamit ng pangulo ang bahay na ito kapag ito ay nasa Lubao Pampanga, pero hindi sinabi ng Malacanang kung ang pagpapagawa ng bahay sa Lubao ay parte sa paghahanda sa pagtakbo ni PGMA sa Pampanga.

Ang di umanong bahay na sinasabi sa balita ni Willard Cheng sa TV Patrol at nilabas sa PDI ay nabili ng mga Arroyo ang lupa sa Lubao Pampanga sa taong nangngangalang Leonora Tiongco at sa panahong ito ay nililipat pa sa pangalan ng mga Arroyo ang titilo kaya hindi ito na isama sa declaration of statement of assets and liabilities ng mga Arroyo.

No More Registration Extension – COMELEC

November 3, ito ang araw na kung saan papayagan na lang ng COMELEC na makapag-rehistro ang mga bagong botante na kung saan inabutan ng pagsara ng registration noong October 31, Sabado na siyang nakakuha ng form at nakapagpalista sa log book lamang. Nilinaw ng COMELEC na ang nagaganap na pagpaparehistro ngayon ay hindi isang extension kundi para tapusin na lang ang mga hindi nakatuloy ng registration nung Saturday dahil sa bagyong Santi at brown out sa ilang mga local COMELEC office.

Nag umpisa ang registration noong December 2008 hanggang October 31, 2009, pero hindi pasok ang bilang ng mga bagong botante sa registration dahil instead of 4 Million na ineexpect nilang accumulated voters na magpaparehistro sana sa loob ng 10 months ay tanging 3.1 Million lamang ang bilang ng mga nagregister.

Ayon sa COMELEC Law Director Attorney Ferdinand Rafaran sa interview niya sa TV Patrol World ay kulang sa budget ang dahilan sa mababang bilang nang nagparehistro na kung saan hindi tatlo kundi sampung registration machine ang dapat naka-deploy sa mga local COMELEC offices para mas mapadali ang proseso ng registration mula noong December hanggang Oct 31. Na kung saan nagiging resulta ng pagtigil ng registration tuwing nasisira ang machine at kailangan itong ipagawa muna, kasama na rin sa contribution sa pagbagal ng registration ay ang late na pagbubukas ng mga COMELEC offices na kung saan nakasaad sa batas na ang operation time ay office hours ito ang nakasaad sa Republic Act 8189 Section 8. “The personal filling of application of registration of voters shall be conducted daily in the election office during regular office hours…” At ang tanging solution na nakikita ni Attorney Rafaran sa kanyang interview kasama ni Anthony Taberna ay agahan ang gagawin na pagbubukas sa registration ng new voters para hindi na magkaroon ng abala.

Pero sa kabila ng 10 buwan na registration period na binigay ng COMELEC para sa 2010 Election na kung saan nagkaroon ng abala sa buwan ng September at early October dahil sa mga bagyo, ay nariyan pa rin ang sakit ng mga ibang Filipino at iyon ang pagiging last minute sa mga bagay na kung saan magpupunta lamang sila sa huling araw ng filing. Tulad ng sinasabi ko noon sa kampanya ko sa blog na ito na register to vote noon pa, ay pumila ng maaga para iwas abala, at nakita natin ito kaya sa mga observation ko sa mga COMELEC offices hindi ko masisisi ang mga opisyal na magpapasaring na dapat noon pa kaya nagparehistro para iwas abala, dahil last December pa nag bukas ang registration period e bakit kung kainlan huling araw dun pa kayo makikisiksik, may karapatan ka bang magreklamo sa mainit at mahabang pila sa huling araw kung inumagahan mo sana e dim as maayos sana at nakapagparegistro ka pa.

The music video is sang by Regine Velasquez, artists who supports Noynoy is shown in the music video which includes Dingdong Dantes, Ogie Alcasid, Boy Abunda, Bea Alonzo, James Yap with team Philippines, Sharon Cuneta, Anne Curtis, Mariel Rodriguez, Bianca Gonzales, Ai Ai delas Alas, Eric Santos, Marian Rivera, and Noynoy's sister Kris Aquino.

Ang music video ay tungkol sa pagpapasa pasa ng liwanag sa mga sulo like what Cory and Ninoy did before. Maybe your guessing that my presidential bet is Noynoy, right now I'm thinking it as an option and I am hoping that I can have an interview with Noynoy and Mar soon for my blog. Wala kang karapatan magreklamo sa sistema ng gobyerno o sa mga ginagawa ng pulitiko kung sa una pa lang wala kang pakialam dahil hindi ka bumoto, this is the usual statement of my fellow register and vote advocates who keeps reminding the youth and other Filipinos to register for the 2010 election.

2010 National and Local election will be my third time to participate to the election as a voter. Naniniwala ako na every vote counts and kulang ang pagka-Filipino if hindi ka nakibahagi sa eleksyon. Like what I said in my blog Magparehistro, Mamulat, Bumoto at Magbantay, it is important that each one should participate in the election, na ang isang boto ay maaaring magdikta sa kinabukasan ng bansa sa loob ng anim na taon. Each ballot is like giving the key to your house to politicians who will dictates and runs the country where your house is included. At least you have a choice kung kanino mo ibibigay yun at hindi yung walang kalaban laban kasi hindi ka bumoto.

Accept the challenge na may part ka sa pagbabagong magyayari sa bansa natin and that challenge when you register and take part of the election. Kung sawang sawa ka na sa eskandalo at problema sa bayan mo dapat umpisahan mo sa pagboto ng tama at mga pinunong matalino at may puso sa bayan.

Last week na ng registration sana huwag mong palagpasin ang chance na ito na maari kang makapagdala ng change sa bayan mo. Registration is until October 31 12 midnight and as of last week registration begins at 9am until 9pm on all local Comelec office just bring all the requirements and be on the local Comelec office in your area early to avoid long pile up in the line.

COMELEC Chairman Jose Melo extended the registration until November 3 which will start from 8am until 12 midnight so for those who have problems to go out and register today (Oct 31) because of typhoon Santi you can still register and vote for the 2010 election.

Wedding of the year. ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs anchor Korina Sanchez and Liberal Party’s candidate for Vice President, Senator Mar Roxas finally ties the knot on October 27, 3PM at the Sto Domingo Church in Quezon City.

From October 23 the planned wedding day of Sanchez and Roxas it was moved to the 27th due to the reason that the couple considers the tragic situation that their fellow Filipinos encounter during the Typhoon Ondoy and Pepeng. The couple also decided to lessen the glamorous reception instead they donated the money for the supposed reception to help their fellow Filipinos who are victims of the two Typhoons. Sanchez and Roxas decided to have a small reception at the garden of the Sto Domingo Church and serve refreshments and snacks to the invited guest. Also they ask to have 4 video walls around the church for those who will be watching the said ceremony outside.

The entourage includes close friends of the couple and Kris Aquino’s son Baby James who will be the ring bearer. The church is adorned by Korina’s favorite flowers; rosal, white roses and sampaguita. Manila Philharmonic Orchestra,UP Madrigal Singers, Robert Sena, Jamie Rivera and Basil Valdez will serenade the couple while the sacrament of matrimony will be preceded by Bishop Angel Lagdameo and Father Tito Caluag. Noynoy Aquino, Mar’s running mate for the 2010 election will be their godfather for the wedding.

CHED launches Taga-ilog in support of Kapit Bisig Para Sa Ilog Pasig

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) launched Taga-ilog in support of Kapit Bisig Para Sa Ilog Pasig recently at Studio 10 of ABS-CBN.

Taga-ilog’s aim is to revive the people’s connection with the river in order to revive the Pasig River. Filipino ancestors used to live along the river banks and regarded the river as their life. Without the revival of that deep appreciation of the river, the Pasig River will remain a dumping site.

Taga-ilog is composed of all Metro Manila Colleges and Universities. They committed to include the Pasig River in their environmental, cultural-historical curriculum. Likewise, they also committed to implement solid waste management in their respective campuses, monitor and report incidents that pollute the river, initiate and support all activities conducted for the benefit of the river such as the Piso Para Sa Ilog Pasig Campaign and the Philippine International Marathon: A Run for the Pasig River among others.

ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc. Managing Director, Ms. Gina Lopez, declared that the youth is a powerful force in making projects succeed. ABS-CBN Foundation managing director Gina Lopez and Commission on Higher Education chairman Emmanuel Angeles led the candle-lighting during the launch of task force “Taga-Ilog,” which unites all Metro Manila colleges and universities to save the Pasig River. With “Taga-Ilog,” the schools commit to including the Pasig River in their curriculum and supporting all activities to be done for the benefit of the river. This is in support of ABS-CBN’s Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig campaign, which aims to clean the river in seven years.

Tick, Tick Tack…. Just like the ticking of the time bomb that is waiting to explode anytime, the Earth, our earth is facing the dilemma of Climate Change and without a doubt we are seeing the effect of our carbon emissions, solid waste mismanagement, deforestation and energy wastage. Right now all over the world we are celebrating the International Day of Climate Action like what I did in Blog Action Day last October 15, my blog and myself unites will all the environmental advocates campaigning for global awareness and reminding our leaders to stand and take part of what is good not only for themselves but for their countrymen and the earth where we are living.

October 24, 350.org calls on bloggers and advocates using the power on ground events and on line to spread the information and awareness to people on what our leaders should be discussing and committing for us on the Climate Change Summit at the Copenhagen Denmark on December 7, 2009.

350.org launches their site and group to remind the people the idea of 350 or umber that leading scientists say is the safe upper limit for carbon dioxide—measured in "Parts Per Million" in our atmosphere - it's the number humanity needs to get back to as soon as possible to avoid runaway climate change. The Copenhagen Summit in Denmark is the turning point where our leaders will be meeting each other and signed a treaty done the United Nation on the topic of Climate Change, on this summit United States of America the super nation will be there and other develop countries who contributes much of the Carbon Dioxide or CO2 in the atmosphere. And US blocked meaningful international actions on the issue of CO2 production so many years and on December 7 we are hoping for Barack Obama, the president of USA who wanted change, brings change on the summit, along with big countries like China and India who contributes to CO2 emission that much almost on the same level of USA.

Like what I wrote in my blog last October 15, as WWF and Greenpeace Philippines mention we can still win this battle and that is though us and with our leaders taking this part to global concern against climate change.

Starting October 24, 5:30 PM makakasama mo na si Ted Failon sa pinaka bagong News and Current Affairs program ng ABS-CBN tuwing Sabado ng hapon ang Failon Ngayon.

Tulad ng Hoy Gising na kung saan nakilala si Ted Failon, magkakaroon ng segment ang Failon Ngayon na ang pangalan ay “Most JuanTED” na kung saan pag uusapan ang mga kontroberyang kinasasangkutan ng mga pulitiko at sangay ng gobyerno at higit sa lahat, bibigyang pagkakataon din niya na makapagsalita ang taong bayan hinggil sa anumang maiinit na isyu.

Nakilala si Ted Failon noon sa palabas niyang Hoy Gising sa telebisyon at sa Tapatang Failon at Sanchez naman sa DZMM. Hanggang naging anchor na rin siya sa TV Patrol World kasama sina Karen Davilla at Julius Babao.

Erap plans to run for the presidential slot on 2010 Election

Tatakbo bilang pangulo sa 2010 National Election, ito ang pahayag ni dating President Joseph Ejercito “Erap” Estrada noong October 21 sa Plaza Armado V. Hernandez, Tondo, Manila kasama ang napili niyang Vice President sa halalan na si Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay. Ayon kay Estrada panahon na para magbalik sa Malacanang para mag lingkod sa milyun milyong mga masang Pilipino na naghalal sa kanya bilang pangulo noon.

Ayon kay Estrada naging biktima siya ng mga paratang at mga kasinungalingan ng mga taong naninira sa kanya na tinawag niyang mga elitistang gutom sa kapangyahiran. Napatalsik sa posisyon si Estrada noong taong 2000 na kung saan pinalitan siya ng pangulo ngayon ng bansa na si Gloria Macapagal Arroyo na siyang kanyang Vice President noon. Nakulong si Erap sa pamamagitan ng house arrest sa lob ng 6 years and 6 months. Nasangkot si Estrada sa issue ng plunder at jueteng na kung saan hanggang ngayon ay sinasangkot pa rin siya sa hidwaan nila ni Senator Ping Lacson na isinangkot siya sa kaso ng Dacer Corvito Double murder case. Matapos ang ilang taon na house arrest ay pinagkalooban siya ng executive clemency ni Arroyo at muli siyang nakalaya.

Sa kabila ng kanyang pag anunsyo bilang kakandidato sa pagka-Pangulo sa 2010 Election ay nagpahayag ang Malacanang na hindi na siya maaaring tumakbo sa anumang posisyon kahit ang pinakamababang posisyon sa gobyerni, pero nananatiling firm si Estrada sa desisyon niyang tumakbo. Binatikos din ni Estrada ang Arroyo administration na kung saan nakadanas ang mga tao ng matinding gutom at hirap at ibinase niya ito sa lumabas na survey ng SWS.

Ang desisyon kung legitimate man o hindi ang pagtakbo niya sa posisyon ay nakadepende ito sa Supreme Court na pinapangunahan ngayon ni Reynato Puno.

Na-elect si Estrada sa pagka pangulo noong 1998 na kung saan pinalitan niya si Fidel V. Ramos na kung saan siya ang nahirang na Vice President noong nanunungkulan si Ramos. Pinili ni Estrada na mag announce ng kanyang pagtakbo sa Tondo sa kadahilanang dito siya pinanganak at ang Tondo ay isa sa malakas na tagasuporta niya noong tumakbo siya.

Si Estrada ang pinakalatest na nag announce sa presidential race, sa loob ng tatlong buwan, una ay si Noynoy Aquino ng Liberal Party na nagdeklara matapos ang 40 days ng kanyang yumaong ina na si dating presidente Cory Aquino na kung saan si Mar Roxas na siyang naging vice president nito, sumunod si Gilbert Teodoro ng LAKAS KAMPI CMD na kung saan hanggang ngayon ay wala pang vice na napili, at ang pinakabago pero hindi tuwirang nagpahayag ng pagtakbo sa 2010 election na si Chiz Escudero na kung saan ay nagdiwang ng ika-40th birthday na siyang isa sa mga basic requirements ng pagka pangulo, habang si Manny Villar naman ay matagal nang nagpahayag ng kanyang plano sa 2010 election.

Sa usapin kung sino ang hindi ko iboboto, siguradong isa si Erap doon na kung saan isa ako sa mga nakilahok noong EDSA Dos, at sumubaybay sa napakaraming balitaan at diskusyunan noong panahon ng Eraption, mula sa mamahaling alak, hanggang sa napakamahal na Boracay Mansion, hanggang sa issue ng suhulan at jueteng sinundan ko iyon at nakiisa ako sa bawat pagkilos at pagmartsa ng mga kapwa ko kabataan sa EDSA noon. At hanggang ngayon naninindigan ako tama na ang isang beses na panunungkulan, at ang tanging hiling ko lang sa mga tao ay bumoto ng wasto at naaayon sa inyong konsensya, may mga kaibigan akong Erap supporters at hanggang ngayon sa kabila ng aming pagkakaiba naroon pa rin akong respeto sa kanila.

Edukasyon sa Kariton ni Efren Peñaflorida

Para isang developing country tulad ng Pilipinas na humaharap sa suliranin ng kahirapan nagiging option na lang ang edukasyon at healthcare para sa karamihang napapalang sa extreme poverty line. Which is according to United Nation Millenuem Report that most of the family lives in extreme poverty line ay nabubuhay lamang sa halagang below $1 Dollar or 45 Pesos, which mostly goes straight to major needs of the family which is for food, at ang edukasyon naman ay nagiging pinakahuli sa priority ng pamilya.

Pero para kay Efren Peñaflorida at sa volunteers ng Kariton Klasrum ng Dynamic Teen Company hindi hadlang ang kahirapan para manatiling manmang at salat sa maayos na edukasyon kaya sa umulan man o umaraw dala ang kanilang kariton na may laman ng mga libro, black board, lapis, crayons at papel ay naglalakbay sila lingo-lingo sa iba’t ibang lugar para magklase. And the only classroom they can afford is by setting the class in the cemetery na kung saan tahimik ay makakapag aral mabuti ang mga batang tinutulungan nila.

Hindi biro para sa mga taong kasama sa Kariton Klasrum project na ito na kung saan binubuhos nila ang kanilang mga oras at pagod para ihatid ang edukasyon at labanan ang kamangmangan sa mga lugar na nangangailangan nito. Ang suliranin ng edukasyon ay kabilang sa 8 Millennium Development Goals (MDG) na pinag usapan ng mga world leaders noong 2000 at kailangan solusyunan pagdating sa 2015. Ang usapin ng edukasyon ay nakapaloob sa MDG number 2, Achieve universal primary education na kung saan not all had the change to get the opportunity of having primary education because of poverty where majority of the children living in extreme poverty is forced to work in order to support the needs of their family.

Understanding Bi Polar disorder on Warner Bros’s The Informant

Bipolar disorder, also known as manic depressive disorder, manic depression or bipolar affective disorder, is a serious mental disorder that describes a category of mood disorders defined by the presence of one or more episodes of abnormally elevated mood clinically referred to as mania or, if milder, hypomania. – Wikipedia

Academy Award-winner Matt Damon plays the role Mark Whitacre, a highest-ranking corporate whistleblower in U.S. history, Whitacre is the President of the BioProducts Division at Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) from 1989 to 1995 where he was involve with the price fixing issue with his company and its client and he became an informant for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) during the price fixing investigation of ADM. Despite of the FBI’s instructions to Whitacre, he remains disobedient and doing his own way to get the attentions of the people who follows the case, until they discovered that Withacre suffers from bipolar disorder and he’s the one responsible to the $9 Million fraud and price fixing in ADM.

The film is presented in political dark comedy approach where the viewers will ingest the story of Whitacre as a person with bi polar disorder and understand his life, the film Informant is based on true life of Mark Whitacre, directed by Steven Soderbergh and written by Scott Z. Burns and co-starred by Scott Bakula, Joel McHale and Melanie Lynskey.

Damon discusses the offbeat comedy and the role of Mark Whitacre:

Question: What drew you to the role of Mark Whitacre in The Informant!?

Matt Damon: It’s one of the best roles I have ever been offered. And what’s funny is that it came up a while ago. It was in 2001. I was on my fourth round of reshoots on The Bourne Identity, I’d had two movies come out that totally bombed, the Bourne movie had been delayed for a year, and all the signals were that it was going to be a disaster too. So it was in that climate that [director] Steven [Soderbergh] called me and said he had found something for us to do together.

Q: How did you get from there to here?

Damon: It’s weird because I did three other movies [Ocean’s Eleven, Twelve and Thirteen] with Steven before we got to this. We always knew that once we had a spare two months we could go and make The Informant! but we never seemed to have a spare two months that coincided. But in a way it was great to walk around for seven years knowing we had that bullet in our gun.

Q: Did you go and meet the real Mark Whitacre?

Damon: No, because once Steven decided to do it as a comedy—and I think it’s a very funny film, by the way—it became something different and it didn’t have to be a rigorous character study, so it didn’t seem like meeting him would be the right thing. I know that he has seen the movie though and he liked it.

Q: Why do you think he did the extraordinary things he did?

Damon: I had to decide for myself what made him tick and I don’t really want to say what I decided. But there are certainly several different theories that can be argued for.

Q: The big shock at the start of the film is how different you look. Among other things, you gained a lot of weight. What was the thinking behind that?

Damon: I’d emailed Steven about two months before we started work and asked him what he wanted the character to look like and he emailed back with one word: ‘doughy.’ And then he explained that it was sort of metaphor for the character because he was so hard to define. Steven didn’t want him to have any hard edges so it would look like you couldn’t quite tell where he began or ended in the same way that you can’t quite tell when he’s lying or telling the truth. They even changed my nose – they took the sharpness out of it with a prosthetic – and I had these things is my cheeks to make them slightly plumper and take away any hint of a jawline. I also wore a wig that’s really well done because in real life his colleagues had bets about whether Mark was wearing a hairpiece or not. He was, but they couldn’t quite figure it out. The screenwriter put it there as a direction in the script, ‘Even his hair was a lie.’

Q: You reportedly gained a total of 30lbs [14 kg] for the role. How did you gain it and how did you lose it?

Damon: All I did was eat like I ate when I was in college and it came on shockingly fast. Losing it was not any fun.

Q: Do you have a preference for making big blockbusters like the Bourne films or more character-based pieces like The Informant!?

Damon: I just want there to be space for both. A lot of the edgier stuff certainly seems to have gone to TV and it seems like films have to get bigger and bigger in order to get people to theaters. But I think if you keep to a certain budget and don’t take too long to shoot it, there is still room for more thoughtful films like this one.

Q: I understand you shot this film very quickly. Was that just about saving money?

Damon: We shot in 30-something days, whereas it takes months to do one of the Bourne or Ocean’s films. But saving money wasn’t the primary goal. Steven’s theory on comedies is that you take as long as you need on the script and then you shoot it really fast to keep the energy and pace there. And I like that a lot. By the time we got to set it was more like we were doing a play. I knew the whole thing back to front. It made for a very joyful experience.

The Informant! is distributed by Warner Bros., a Warner Entertainment Company and will be shown on cinemas nationwide beginning on October 21.
