This is the challenge from Carol Marine at the Daily Paintworks for the week. I brought the horizon closer to the horse and tried to keep the shapes in mind.. I had toned the canvas with cad red before beginning and let it show through around the silhouette of the horse.

This is my entry for the "You Know the Drill" challenge offered by Eileen McCoy on the Daily Paintworks. I am also using this as my Paint Party Friday post this week. Happy PPF!

I love my electric drill, which for me is really my electric screwdriver. I mainly use it when framing my paintings or taking down curtain rods, etc. I wasn't liking my drill all alone, but once I added the flower, I felt good about it.

This painting is the February Challenge at the "A Day Not Wasted" site of Lee Brown who is the photographer. It was a really good value study practice to make the buildings each individual. I left out the top tier of buildings as many of you will realize as well as the bridge to the right of this complex of buildings. I also left off the canopy over the balcony on the main focal point building.

This painting is for the Daily Paintworks weekly challenge. The subject matter was "raw meat" as in the famous Dutch paintings of yesteryear. I chose to buy some lamb chops and make my lamb chops with onions and potatoes. Recipe...Cover bottom of glass baking pan with Olive Oil. Slice a large onion and place in the bottom. Slice white potatoes and place over onions. Place Lamb chops on top of the potatoes. Sprinkle all with salt and pepper. Add small pieces of fresh or canned peeled tomatoes around the top of the lamb. Add water to top edge of chops, add bay leaf. Cover with foil and bake at 350 for about 45 minutes, uncover and let cook another 15 minutes. Serve in bowls with juice and crusty Italian bread.

I painted this pastel while at The Clearing in Ellison Bay, WI. It is an old pewter coffee pot on a stand that they had in the dining room up on top of a cabinet. I love the shape and design of the metal stand and lid. This is my entry for Paint Party Friday. Happy PPF!

The Daily Paintworks challenge for this week is to paint your sweet Valentine treats before you eat them! Of course this meant that I had to go buy some fancy chocolates to paint, and while I was there at this really neat store that features all the seasonal holidays with food and home decorations, I had to buy this cute little bird and the pink plate, too! Yippee! Now I can eat them..or maybe I should wait until tomorrow?! (2/14)

This painting is from a photo from Ria Hills blog site called "Shoot & Paint". Once a month a new photograph is posted and anyone interested in painting it may post their painting until the end of that month. All mediums and styles are welcome. I love to make ratatouille in the summer and these vegetables are a good start towards my recipe which also includes olive oil, onions, fresh garlic, fresh parsley, green beans, carrots, zucchini, potatoes and salt.

This is my finished painting for the "White on White Challenge" offered by Ann Feldman this week on Daily Paintworks. As Ann explains, nothing(hardly ever) is pure white. If you will look below you see the stages getting to my finished painting. My set-up was under an incandescent light so everything looked warm, but the shadows are pretty cool. Here is my first sketch below. I had toned the canvas orange.

I painted this barn and wagon from photos I had taken when I went to visit The Volkening Farm in Schaumburg, Illinois. It is a working farm replica of an 1880's rural German farm community. It was done with a palette knife which gives it a lot of texture. I especially liked the stone base of this red barn so didn't show the top of the barn, and the "Dutch" door to enter the lower level. This is my Paint Party Friday entry for this week. Hopefully after my gallery show this weekend, I will get back on my regular painting and networking schedule! Happy PPF!

The Daily Paintworks Challenge for the week of January 8- 14 is to paint a picture of your breakfast. Well, this was not my breakfast because I couldn't cook in the studio! I actually had 2 slices of bacon, two fried eggs, and a healthy juiced fruit and vegetable combo that was made from 1 beet, 1 carrot, 1 apple, 1 orange and a one inch square of fresh ginger. Oh, not to forget the large cup of Colombian coffee "straight"!
I painted this over a previously used canvas. I have photos of the canvas and my value study below.

I haven't posted for a week because my children celebrated Christmas with me on the 7th. of January. I was busy last week with some extra shopping and wrapping, and preparing or picking up food for the weekend. So the ham in this picture is part of a Honeybaked ham we had. I still have too much leftover, even though they each took some home. Ham anybody?!

I painted Santa from life in a portrait class. His real name(don't tell the kids!) is Rich. He is tall and thin and has a wonderful smile. Santa was wearing his Santa hat but had a green or blue flannel shirt on in November, when this was painted. As some of you might know, when you paint a human from life, the sitting is about 3 hours long with 5 minute breaks every 20 minutes. Well, when you are sitting and staring at something across the room on the wall for three hours, you are not going to be holding a smile! I also exaggerated the creases and lines. I love the way it seems that Santa is already tired when he thinks about all that needs to be done before Christmas Eve. We all know that feeling. I had this painting made into postcards for Christmas and had "Already!?" printed down along the bottom. I wish all my friends at Paint Party Friday, and at The Daily Paintworks and Contemporary Fine Art International a Merry Christmas.

Here is my painting for my “Picasso It” Challenge.
It is called “Taos Girl At Horno, Picasso-style”
A horno is the proper name of the bake ovens at the Taos Pueblo. I took this picture while on vacation in 2009.
I got the design by cutting apart the photo that I had printed out and then trying various placements on the 6 x 6 panel.
I think putting the name of the artist chosen in the title is an important part of the challenge.
