Tuesday

2013-04-30T14:04:00.001+01:00

Tuesday - a week after last Tuesday.

I'm sat here at my desk listening to a playlist I made for a friend a couple months ago with the sun coming through my window, which is fabulous, yet outside it isn't as nice as it first seems, there is a very chilly breeze.

This past week has flown by, I can't believe we're already on the last day of April.

On Saturday I popped into Bath for a trip to the Cinema to see Iron Man 3, which as a Marvel enthusiast, I was very much looking forward to, however I knew that it probably wouldn't be a masterpiece, and I think I was right, but saying that it was a full on, action packed, and a very enjoyable movie. I certainly was not disappointed.

I have linked in the trailer here because it's the best I can do - I'd definitely recommend it if you want an enjoyable evening.

I'm not very good at the whole reviewing thing, so I'm just telling you that I went and enjoyed it, so you probably will too!

Going to Sunday, Daft Punk had their first UK Number 1 with 'Get Lucky' ft. Pharrell Williams, and Daughter have done this beautiful cover of it, for Radio 1, but if you've not heard it then look no further!

I'm really digging the whole of Daughter's debut album 'If You Leave' - released in March of this year - I find it most relaxing and gentle, just an altogether beautiful piece of work.

It certainly gives Palma Violets '14' a run for its money as my favourite album of the year so far, although I'm imagining these may both be trumped by the arrival of Daft Punk's new album next month.

In this past week I've also gone for three cycle rides - only 10 miles each - but they have been fabulous. I've been trying to cut my time down from around 45 minutes to less that 40, which I feel like I will be able to do in a few tries.

On yesterdays ride I cut over 2 minutes off my personal best (down to around 42.5 minutes) so I'm confident of success. I'm also looking to do some longer rides when I get a chance - probably somewhere between 20 and 30 miles. I look forward to these days.

I'm running out of time for today, so I'll sign off now.

So after the throng of Record Store Day, Monday came along, and where else to go but the record shop, for two reasons, firstly to check out any new releases, and secondly, on this particular day to have another rummage through any left over Record Store Day items, of which there were a few.

Firstly I found one of these, which I thought was worth a punt.

After I bought this, I merely enquired as to whether they had any of the Funeral For A Friend LPs left in either of their other stores, Bath and Warminster, to which the answer was no, but they had some more due in on Tuesday, so I popped back and now I'm a proud owner of 'Casually Dressed & Deep In Conversation'.

Record Store Day - April 20th 2013

2013-04-21T18:47:00.002+01:00

So yesterday was the sixth annual Record Store Day, the 4th time I'd attended in as many years, and it was just a great, if not better, as all the previous!

I arrived bright and early, somewhere around 6am, to Raves From The Grave in Frome, to find that I was the first to arrive, which I was slightly surprised by, but nevertheless I was please to be first as to hopefully get my hands on some super limited records!

Around 6.30am, the stragglers started to arrive, and by 7am there were around half a dozen people or so, with a number of people who I'd not seen since last years event.

Fast forward a couple hours of discussing music with many people in the queue, plus free coffee and bacon rolls supplied by the cafe next door and a queue about 35-40 people strong, 9am arrived and the doors opened for the grabbing of rare and precious records which as per previous years, slight chaos ensued!

30 minutes later I came out of crowd and felt somewhat victorious, I had managed to get all that I had on my list, plus a couple of other items that I fell upon by chance and felt were worthy purchases!

After this I popped to a cafe just up the road with a fellow Record Store Day-er for some much needed coffee and a good old chat, after which we headed back to Raves From The Grave and picked up a couple more bits as the storm had calmed and browsing became more possible.

I'm now listening to all these one by one, and I've thoroughly enjoyed all I've heard so far, below are all that I bought.

That is the last of the items I bought, so plenty of listening to do, and a whole bunch of lovely records for my collection, with hopefully many more in the future.

As much as I enjoyed this day, I just hope all the people who showed up just for Record Store Day return regularly and support their local, and independent record shop, however I have this sad feeling that many people will not.

Time for me to finish off here, I hope all involved with Record Store Day had a blast, and will take part again in the years to come.

Thanks to Raves From The Grave for participating and, of course, being wonderful all year long.

Peace out.

two months plus a bit.

2012-11-11T17:54:00.000+00:00

So, I know I said I'd try and be back, and I haven't thus far but I am now.
This is all true.

I have been doing some cycling recently, I've tried to do more because I enjoy it, and it is good for me. I have also realised how unfit I am, very, it would seem. Although even after going out once a week or so, I feel less unfit, however still unfit.

Music news.

Back in September I saw The xx at The Coal Exchange in Cardiff, which was brilliant, far better than I was expecting, and also the venue itself was rather surprising with its old 'church-esque' dark wood fittings and dingy nature, this all played into the hands due to the fact the bass rattled through the floor and the lights stood out exceptionally well. I liked it. Loving The xx's new album too.

Roll up October, there were two notable gigs. Firstly Radiohead at London's O2 Arena, to which I'd never been, and I was slightly let down (I thought it would be bigger).
I did not have the words to describe this experience on the night and I still lack words good enough to describe it. I'm sorry, but it was just really really good, but better than that!
At the end (ish) of October I travelled to The Louisiana in Bristol to see a reasonably new band, Peace, they have just released their uber limited 12'' EP on white vinyl, it is called Delicious, and it certainly is delicious, especially 1998, but all of it is fantastic. Check it out.

October also brought news on a intimate Foals tour and album news.

I managed to secure tickets for 3 dates on the intimate Foals tour I mentioned above. The first week of December will see me travel to Gloucester, Southampton, and Bournemouth for, what I hope will be, 3 nights of crazy and enjoyable times!

November (5th, to be specific) saw the release of a brand new Foals track, Inhaler, and IT IS SO GOOD. I have listened to it a good number of times and it just gets better and better, it has the most sexy beginning. I think I'm in love. This day also brought the news that they'd be playing a show at The Royal Albert Hall in London all the way in March of next year. I have managed to get some seats for this, so that'll be something to look forward to in the Spring.

In other news, the new Bond affair, Skyfall, is a pretty swell film, and I'd recommend you splashed out and got your butts to the cinema and had a good couple hours. Do it, or not.

I'm going to leave you with the new Foals song that I talked about and you can judge it for yourself.

If you have more time, go a listen to

Peace - California Daze

I know it has been ages but I feel like I should pick it up again, and I now have the ability to do it on the move!

Loads of things have probably happened since I last posted on here, but I won't bore you with all that or dwell on anything that could be dwelled upon!

I'll try and be back soon!

IT WILL TAKE TIME.
Let me explain.
There is a lot of information clattering around the inner workings of my head and it will take long time to find anything interest amongst it. You see, simple.

Today I bought the new Feist album, Metals, today. I am yet to have a listen but I'm sure it'll be excellent, but what I have bought recently that I think I should bring to your attention.

It is FABRICLIVE.59 - Four Tet

So, people have been RIOTING because they can, I hear myself, and others asking one question.

WHY?

because they think they're hard done by?

because they want to?
because they have nothing better to do?
because it is fun?
I'm sure that there are many reasons for it, none of which are justified.

ANY

WAY

That is enough of that and I've a few more fisheye photos that I'm wanting to showcase, not because they are good, but just because I like them. Let's hope you like them too.

ERROR ERROR ERROR ERROR ERROR ERROR

I re-posted this by mistake, it is not new!

Well, this whole finding time to blog thing is harder than I thought it'd be, I mean, any time I do have is usually taken up with feeling tired, and lethargic. It takes a lot of effort.

Here, below, are some more videos I took a year or two ago, some of them are rubbish, I know that, but I also know it is not about the quality it is about the content.... sometimes.

  stop with the exclamations!
you've started now!
  i blame you.
i didn't realise this was a blame game!
  well, it is.
shall we end it now?
  okay! no...

This was a conversation I had in my head been the different sides of my brain.
I know it has been a few weeks, but I've been doing life and life can be and is sometimes rather busy, so I've been far away yet so close. MAGIC.

Anyway, I've been buying the Radiohead 'The King of Limbs' 12'' remixes which are being released at present, I believe I posted the Caribou remix of Little By Little just around HERE.

I have for you another of these beautiful tracks, this is a Nathan Fake rmx.

Radiohead - Morning Mr Magpie (Nathan Fake rmx)

I am loving these remixes, and there are plenty more on Hype Machine and other places around the web I am sure.

Here are a few photos to finish this blog off.

This was a cracked window at the pub and I thought perhaps it would look like a cracked lens if I took a photo of it.

Well, I don't really know what this is but I just like the blue/green sky.

The Severn Bridge, the new one, in all its glory. nice in black and white as well. I like this.

Escalators are fun. Don't get shoe laces stuck. BIG step at the end. Lazy Stairs.

So. That's all for now.

Peace.

There is a sign just up the road.
it reads...

The letter 'H' and below the word 'Hospital', informing you of a Hospital ahead, then on a sign below that it reads 'Patients Crossing'.

All I thought was 'Well, then can wait for me then'.

That's all I wanted to say.
peace.

ZING ZANG

2011-07-16T23:24:00.000+01:00

bleep.
Yo.
It's the weekend.

Saturday night. 11pm or so.

Just had a Fifa '11 sesh, and now just telling the world.

I say the world, it's more just my world, which is significantly smaller than the actually world in which we live.

My computer had a funny five minutes earlier, it kept scrolling down.

FIXED IT NOW. All is well.

This week has been busy, I believe Tuesday was my only night that I had nothing on, and tonight of course. Saying that, it has been a rather nice week. Thursday was my day off.

I am pretty tired so I'm thinking I'll just leave you with something I scribbled down the other night, I'm not 100% sure what I think of it, but I'll share it anyway.

Here goes, don't laugh, and shhhh.

this is a life

i don't have one

can you see that?

if you can't, relax

flip over and over

channels; waste of space

nothing on tv

i wish it was broke

that jolly box

everyone wants it

still nothing on

we can't go without

take it to our graves

wasted lives, reject soaps

we love and hate

should we go through it

it all will end

power cuts, no coal

hamster powered tv

probable hamster death

So, yeah, it's sort of about how TV is in our lives yet we don't need it and it is a waste of space but yet we can't not have one.

Do we really want TV or is it just something 'EVERYONE' has?

I don't know.

I'll probably put some other stuff I've written up here in due course, but this is all for now.

Here is a song for you.

Africa Hitech - 93 Million Miles

enjoy this.

play safe kids.

peace out.

I will put those up at a later date.

This was taken from the train to Brighton.

As was this, I think I like this one more.

I haven't been here for a while, I always seem to be too busy or too lazy, which isn't good.
I'm sorry.

I've got a fisheye film that I want to upload some of but my computer is rejecting my scanner, so I need to go to plan B or C.
Those being...
B. Buy/find/borrow/hijack a scanner
C. Pay Boots to do it.

I bought a fantastic record today. (...12'', if you wondered.)
Radiohead
A. Little By Little (Caribou rmx)
B. Lotus Flower (Jacques Green rmx)

I'm especially loving the Caribou rmx, but Lotus Flower is sounding good also, and as I understand it, there are 3 more Radiohead singles/rmxs coming out in the coming months or so.

You can listen to the Caribou rmx just around here.

Radiohead - Little By Little (Caribou rmx)

I am excited for them.
I also have bought the new Bon Iver album, which I've only managed to listen to a snippet of so I can't wait to hear the whole album as it is probably a very beautiful album.

I never understand why these blogs double space all the time.
IT MAKES NO SENSE.

Have a glance. Pentagon.

Time has arrived for my sleep time so therefore I shall leave here and return when I have some fisheye photos and it'll be delightful.

Peace out. bleep.

SO.
FOOTBALL. LOMOGRAPHY FISHEYE. RECORDS. WEATHER.

FOOTBALL:
I have just watched the UEFA Champions League final between Manchester United and Barcelona at Wembley Stadium in London, in which Barcelona outplayed and outclassed Manchester United and won by 3 goals to one.

So, Lionel Messi, is just incredible, some of this is just jaw dropping, I can't tell you how good it is as there isn't words to describe it!

LOMOGRAPHY FISHEYE:
I was in Urban Outfitters on Wednesday and they had Lomography Fisheye cameras for £30, rather than £45, and I just couldn't resist this bargain, the only downside is it looks like the image below.

I am now keen to take lots of photos on my fisheye. EXCITED.

RECORDS:

I have FINALLY gotten my hands onto the debut album by Battles on 12'' Vinyl, which I've been after for a couple of years, I now have it and am very pleased, it is a beautiful record.

BUY: BATTLES - MIRRORED

WEATHER:

That was strange.
Blogger was down for a couple of hours, and upon my return I noticed that my latest blog was missing, much to my annoyance, but I've now just come on here to complain, and it is back, so no complaint is needed. I am almost jubilant. Almost.

I don't have a whole lot to say, except, I now have 4 days off, and it is my birthday tomorrow, which I haven't really given much though too.

I think you should all buy this.

The quality is poor to say the least but they all tell stories and have memories, some better ones to follow at a later date.

THE GRID

2011-05-04T15:39:00.000+01:00

TRON. TRON LEGACY.
I love these films.

I had seen them both before, Tron in December of last year, and Tron Legacy in January at the cinema, and now having watched them back to back my brain isn't spinning around as much as it was after watching Tron Legacy.

They are awesome, the visual adventures, especially in Tron Legacy, are mind blowing, the amount of time, effort, and imagination that would have been required was probably phenomenal. Admittedly, there are still probably elements of these films that I don't not understand fully, or at all, however I'm sure I'll become to understand them more after more watches! These two films are most welcome among my collection!

Now for TRON 3, I'm hoping there is going to be a third anyway, after all the speculation and teaser trailers!

OLD vs. NEW

You decide.

Peace out.

Today, My girlfriend and I, we went to the Veolia Environnement Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition at the Bristol City Museum & Art Gallery, which we thoroughly enjoyed!

My personal favourite was 'Sunset Moment' by Olivier Puccia

See it here!

I've not had much time to get on here in the past few days, not that I'm complaining about being busy, I like doing things, but I'm just saying, this is a good space to release the stuff going around my brain, and confusing me.

Here are some photos from today.

I saw this outside the museum and really thought it looked a bit nice, it being a Vespa and all that.

This is me, enjoying my Frappé Latte with extra cream, in Caffè Nero.

This is me, again I hear you say, in Topshop whilst waiting for my daring girlfriend, I love her.

xj?

That was today.

Also, Osama Bin Laden is dead. Thumbs up, I suppose.

And I leave you with this...
