Did someone hack your PHP files ? Is that possible ? Oooh yes. It happens to everybody and the difference between "everybody" is how often it happens. And code injection is one type of attack, I won't refer to cases that someone changed the homepage and you can just restore the last backup.

So, what can you do if you find out that someone injected code into your PHP files ?

Συζητώντας με έναν συνάδελφο για το mesh.com θυμήθηκα το NTFS-3G. Όπως θυμάμαι, τα άτομα που το δημιούργησαν έκαναν capture τα διάφορα πακέτα που ανταλλάσονταν μεταξύ των διεπαφών προσπαθώντας να τα αποκωδικοποιήσουν. Για μεγάλο χρονικό διάστημα η εφαρμογή ήταν σε beta version. Με συστηματική προσπάθεια έφτιαξαν ένα stable driver ο οποίος όπως θυμάμαι ήταν ταχύτερος από τον M$ driver.
Συζητώντας με τον συνάδελφο, ανέφερα την ιστορία του Linux driver και είπα ότι κάτι τέτοιο θα γίνει και με το mesh.com. Αποκλείεται η Microsoft να υποστηρίξει δίσκους Linux. Εφόσον , όμως, χρειάζεται ένα πρόγραμμα για να είναι ο χρήστης online και να συγχρονίζει τους φακέλους του αυτόματα θα μπορούσε να γίνεται capture στα διάφορα πακέτα που ανταλλάσονται μεταξύ του local PC και του mesh.com προκειμένου να αποκωδικοποιηθούν. Φυσικά, χρειάζεται οργανωμένη δουλειά εφόσον υπάρχουν πολλά που θα χρειαστεί να αποκωδικοποιηθούν και προς το παρόν το mesh.com είναι σε beta version.

Πιστεύω ότι αυτό είναι ένα καλό θέμα για προτεινόμενη πτυχιακή εργασία φοιτητών Πληροφορικής αν όχι προπτυχιακών τότε μεταπτυχιακών (εφαρμοσμένη έρευνα).

Being In the Linux world for years I have integrated into my mind the advice "accept only the security updates". Not that I always followed it but that's another story.
The last version of Netbeans is not an efficient solution for newbies in J2SE or J2ME. The former comes from my experience a few weeks ago and the latter comes from a colleague.
I have worked with J2ME a year ago but I never liked Java. Last year in J2ME I had some problems with the simulator's keyboard but the project was completed. My colleague said that Netbeans couldn't run the "Hello world" code that was created by itshelf. And I believe him
because he is not a newbie but an experienced Java programmer (although he is using Windows).

This year I tried to make an application in Java SE and I thought it would be better to use Netbeans instead of JBuilder. All the books I had contained code with classes that extended JFrame.
When you choose to create a desktop application with or without database, Netbeans 6.5 creates two java files, the first to extending SingleFrameApplication and the second to extend FrameView.
You won't find many examples on Internet not to mention that there was no example in the books. It took me a while to find out how to connect the created classes with dialogs and other frames
but this "while" was valuable. It would be better for me if I created simple Java classes and used what I knew or what was in the books.
There must be a way in Netbeans to change the template of the Java Desktop Application but I didn't look for it. I am not saying "don't use Netbeans" because Netbeans is a nice IDE. What I am saying is "be careful with its new code templates because they will create you many problems".

My first impressions for Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex

Ubuntu Intrepid was released one month ago. Although I have installed Ubuntu 8.10 from the time it was officially released I don't have much time to blog.

I made a clean installation of Ubuntu. Mostly because some of my last projects demanded to use applications that needed quick-n-dirty actions so I had to take rid of all the garbages. In fact I was waiting for the Ubuntu release in order to do that.
I can't say that Intrepid has changed a lot but the changes I will mention are practical.
First of all it starts up faster. The "problem" is that it doesn't shut down as fast as Hardy did. I use quotes because I never used a timer to say that Hardy needed x seconds to shut down and Intrepid needs more than x. Hardy shut down when the progress bar was about 80% while Intrepid much reach the 100%.
Extremely useful is the tabbed interface of Nautilus. I had to open two or three Nautilus windows when I wanted to cut-paste some files from my USB Flash. Now I open only one window and three tabs.
Interesting is the new firewall. I like the name a lot, Uncomplicated Firewall (ufw). Simple and really uncomplicated. I didn't like Firestarter a lot because sometimes it halted.
There are some files I installed but time is running out...

Different needs create different opinions

As I was looking for PHP and Python web frameworks I ran into one article of James Bennett with the title "Python Web Frameworks". It is very interesting because the arguments fit into every controversy I have seen not only in the web but everywhere.

The author separates the Python web frameworks into two categories. The first category is the "full stack frameworks" and the second is the "glue frameworks". He describes the different features and functionalities that each category provides and wisely says
"There is no perfect framework. There are only different frameworks that suit different kinds of people."

The most interesting part of the article is how he explains that when both parties claim that their framework is better they are both wrong!

I have seen people saying "X is the best Linux distro/framework/programming language/etc" - "No you are wrong! Z is the best ......" and so on. Even recently in one examination some students from side (A) said "the other side (B) has easier exercises" and at the same time students from side (B) said "side (A) has easier exercises".

When you see such controversies or hear such things you don't have to get involved because it won't help anyone. Remember that "there is no perfect opinion, only different needs served by different opinions"
