Recipe: Conditioning Hand Wash

You Will Need:

8 oz Bubble Wash Concentrate

8 oz Distilled Water

0.50 oz Jojoba Oil

5 ml (1 tsp) Citrus Cilantro Fragrance Oil

2.5 ml Germaben II (Preservative)

5 ml Botanical Extract Blend

In a sterile container, combine distilled water, botanical extract blend and preservative.

In a second sterile container, add jojoba oil and fragrance oil to the bubble wash concentrate.

Combine the ingredients of both containers until thoroughly blended. Package in an airtight container. Product may require 24 hours to re-thicken.

Beauty gloves are usually made of cotton and are designed to keep your hand lotion from evaporating. You Will Need:

8 oz Natural Body Butter

2.5 ml Lavender 40/42 Essential Oil

Combine ingredients in a sterile mixing container using a hand mixer reserved for formulating. Scoop into a jar and seal until use.

To Use: Apply a generous amount of body butter to hands, ensuring that you rub into cuticles and around fingernails. While hands are still thickly covered, apply beauty gloves and wear overnight to seal in moisture.

Recipe: Rose & Green Tea Facial Masque

You Will Need:

Dry Materials:
2 oz Kaolin Clay
1 oz Colloidal Oatmeal
1 oz Pink Rose Powder, Organic

Liquid Materials:
1 oz Rose Hydrosol, Organic
2.5 ml (1/2 tsp) Green Tea Extract
5 drops Rosy Essential Oil Blend

Phase 1: Combine dry, powdered ingredients in a stainless steel or glass mixing bowl. Mix well to incorporate. Continue to mix well to incorporate all ingredients. Package in an airtight container. No refrigeration is required but product should be stored in a cool, dry place away from moisture.

Phase 2: Combine liquid ingredients in a glass mixing container and incorporate well. The natural fragrance oil is optional. You may omit it if you wish. Package in an amber glass bottle and store in a cool, dry place.

To Use As A Masque: Add 2 parts powdered product and 1 part liquid product into a small bowl and stir to blend until it forms a spreadable, thick paste (if it is too thick, add more liquid). Use a facial brush or your fingers to apply mixture to cover face and throat (avoiding eyes) and massage in a circular pattern. Allow to sit for 5 minutes and rinse to remove any residue. Apply a lightweight moisturizer.

Note: Do not combine dry and liquid ingredients until just prior to use. Storing these components together without appropriate preservation will cause microbes, bacteria and mold to grow.

Spritz over face and neck and gently press into skin, or spritz onto cotton pad and apply following cleanser as needed.

6 oz Dead Sea Salt, Coarse

2 oz Dendritic Salt

4 oz Luxurious Bath Tea (Loose)

5 ml (1 tsp) Rosy Essential Oil Blend

In a glass or stainless steel mixing container, combine dendritic salt and essential oil until well blended. Add dead sea salt and combine again. Finally, fold in bath tea. Package in an airtight container until use.

To Use: Scoop about an ounce of bath soak into a mesh bath tea ball or muslin bag. Suspend in bath water and bathe as usual. When finished, empty botanicals out of tea ball or bag and rinse clean. Allow to air dry between uses.

What is a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)?

A Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) is designed to provide both workers and emergency personnel with the proper procedures for handling or working with a particular substance. MSDS's include information such as physical data (melting point, boiling point, flash point etc.), toxicity, health effects, first aid, reactivity, storage, disposal, protective equipment, and spill/leak procedures. These are necessary if a spill or other accident occurs.

Who are MSDS's for?

MSDS's are meant for:

Employees who may be occupationally exposed to a hazard at work.
Employers who need to know the proper methods for storage etc.
Emergency responders such as fire fighters, hazardous material crews, emergency medical technicians, and emergency room personnel.

MSDS's are not meant for consumers. An MSDS reflects the hazards of working with the material in an occupational fashion. For example, an MSDS for lye is not highly pertinent to someone who uses a bar of soap, but is extremely important to someone who works with lye in a confined space 40 hours a week.

   MSDS's do not disclose "trade secrets", nor will they outline the ingredients of a formula.

What does an MSDS look like?

    The formats of MSDS's vary, but they usually convey the same basic kinds of information. MSDS's vary in length depending on their format, content, and font size.

Where can I get MSDS's?

Your laboratory or workplace should have a collection of MSDS that came with the hazardous chemicals you have ordered.
Most universities and businesses have a collection somewhere on site.
You can get them from the distributor that sold you the material. If you can't find them then contact the manufacturer's customer service department.

46g Jojoba Oil

20g Meadowfoam Seed Oil

6g Cocoa Butter, Natural

5g Olive Butter

7g Beeswax Pastilles

5g Behenyl Alcohol

5-10 drops Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E)

0.15 ml Sweetener Powder

1 ml Vanilla Swirl Flavor Fragrance

Tools:

Scale (with gram denominations)

In a sterile double boiler over medium heat, combine all ingredients except flavor, sweetener and tocopherol until melted. Remove from heat.

Gently whisk fragrance, sweetener and tocopherol into melted butter/wax mixture until incorporated. Pour into lip tubes and allow to set up.

Recipe: Erotic Vanilla Dusting Powder

Dusting powder is a cosmetic product that can be used to add subtle fragrance to the body while helping to keep you dry. The addition of vanilla powder, lip safe mica and flavor fragrance creates a product that is also edible and adds subtle "shimmer" to the skin. A fun way to enhance romance. Sweet, not sticky, absorbs quickly into the skin, but doesn't leave you feeling dried out. Also referred to as "edible body powder".

You Will Need:

2 oz Natrasorb Bath (Tapioca Starch - Modified)
1.5 oz Vanilla Powder

1 ml Honeycomb Flavor Fragrance

1 ml Radiant Gold Mica (optional)

Dispensing Brush

Combine all ingredients in a zipper style plastic bag. Knead gently to incorporate all ingredients. If your raw materials seem lumpy, use a sifter to smooth out the lumps.

Fill dispensing brush by unscrewing the end and scooping desired amount into reservoir. Attach cap and press dispensing button several times to start the flow of the powder out of the brush end.

To Use: Dispense powder onto brush and apply directly to the skin.

Recipe: Cocoa Butter Massage Bar

A Lotion Bar is a blend of plant oils, exotic butters and wax combined in a formula which remains solid at room temperature.

You Will Need:

2 oz Beeswax Pastilles, White

2 oz Cocoa Butter (Natural)

2 oz Coconut Oil, Fractionated

0.5 oz Vanille Essential Oil Blend

0.15 cc Mica Pigment Powder - Red (Oil Soluble) (optional)

Silicone Mold

Combine wax, butter and coconut oil in a double boiler over medium-low heat until liquified. Remove from heat. Add Vanille Essential Oil Blend and stir well to combine.

Remove a small portion of the mixture to another heat-proof container and add optional colorant (skip this step if you are leaving your bars natural). Whisk well to combine and pour this colored portion into your mold. Allow to set up.

Pour the remainder of your lotion bar mixture over the hardened, colored layer and allow to set up completely before removing from the mold.

To Use: Gently rub over skin. Can be used as a massage tool or as a solid lotion. Product is intended to melt at skin temperature, so store below 70F to maintain shape and consistency.

A lip plumper is a cosmetic product used to make lips appear fuller. In appearance, it ranges from translucent to opaque and tinted. Lip plumpers are used by those with thinner lips when full, "pouty" lips are desired. These products typically work by irritating the thin, delicate skin of the lips with ingredients like menthol, cayenne or cinnamon. This makes the lips swell slightly, which may also diminish the appearance of fine lines in that area. Other perceived benefits include stimulating collagen production and moisturizing. A lip plumper's effects are temporary, so it must be reapplied throughout the day to maintain the results.

You Will Need:

1.5 oz Natural Lip Balm Base (For Pots)

0.5 oz Meadowfoam Seed Oil

1 ml Mica Pigment Powder - Red (Oil Soluble)

0.15 ml Cinnamon Leaf Essential Oil

0.15 ml Peppermint Essential Oil

0.15 ml Sweetener Powder

Lip Wand & Container - Round, Dark Silver

Combine all ingredients in a sterile glass or stainless steel mixing container. Use a dropper to fill lip tubes, apply closure and label.

Note: Cinnamon leaf essential oil can be highly irritating. Do not exceed the IFRA recommended usage of 0.20% in your formula.
