Here are the 2026 stock market predictions from all of Wall Street's top banks

W Wall Street's top banks are lining up to deliver their year-ahead outlooks.

· Bullish forecasts cite robust earnings growth, AI-driven gains, and potential Fed rate cuts

· Banks expect continued US economic growth and expanding AI investments.

The bull market turned three this year, and Wall Street thinks you should be gearing up to celebrate another big run in 2026.

Analysts at top banks have rolled out their predictions for where they think the market is headed in the coming year. Their forecasts are looking strong across the board, with most expecting US stocks to punch higher as the Fed cuts interest rates, earnings grow, and the US economy continues to chug along.

Despite some recent volatility in the tech sector, stocks are still firmly in bull market territory after back-to-back years of double-digit gains. The S&P 500 is up 17% year-to-date, and has gained 79% since the end of 2022.

Those returns have largely been fueled by the hype for artificial intelligence — a frenzy that's sparked concerns of a stock market bubble and has shown more cracks in recent weeks as investors survey high valuations and seemingly endless AI spending among top tech firms.

Even so, the market has room to grind higher, according to the top analysts.

Here's the rundown of forecasts and price targets from the big banks.

Bank of America

S&P 500 price target for 2026: 7,100

Upside from current levels: +3%

Core thesis: BofA's prediction is on the lower end, but it still expects S&P 500 earnings to grow 14% for the year. That should help power the market higher, but gains could be held back by factors like fewer stock buybacks, fewer Fed rate cuts than expected, and the possibility that the Fed will only cut rates if the US economy looks weak.

"In 2026, earnings will do the lift," strategists wrote in their year-ahead outlook. "Liquidity is full blast today, but the direction of travel is likely less not more," they added.

Upside from current levels: +9%

Core thesis: The bank is eyeing above-trend earnings growth of 13%-15% for at least the next several years. That should help sustain high valuations in the stock market, alongside a boom in AI-related capital expenditures, larger shareholder payments, and fiscal stimulus from President Donald Trump's Big Beautiful Bill.

Upside from current levels: +9%

Core thesis: Global stocks will keep rallying next year as the AI trade expands beyond the hyperscalers that have positioned themselves at the center of the artificial intelligence craze. Investors can expect to see earnings growth slow down for the Magnificent Seven, while earnings pick up in the rest of the S&P 500.

The broadening of the rally is generally considered a healthy trend among investors, who want to see more breadth and less reliance on just a few stocks to drive more gains.

HSBC thinks US economic growth will remain solid, a factor that should help cyclical stocks outperform.

Upside from current levels: +12%

Core thesis:

The bank said it had determined its price target based on various models that project the S&P 500's return based on factors like sentiment, valuations, and economic and monetary policies.

Investor sentiment is at levels that are sending a "contrarian buy signal" for long-term investors, the bank said. Strategists added expected solid earnings growth and expected rate cuts from the Fed to prop up the market, though subdued economic growth could be a drag on stock returns.

S&P 500 price target for 2026: 7,800

Upside from current levels: +13%

Core thesis: Stocks will get a lift next year from strong corporate earnings and a "rolling recovery" in the economy that's expected to pick up steam, Morgan Stanley strategists said. The bank referred to its previous view that the US was in the midst of a "rolling recession," where a downturn hits the economy in various sectors at different times.

"We believe that we're in the midst of a new bull market and earnings cycle, especially for many of the lagging areas of the index," strategists wrote.

S&P 500 price target for 2026: 8,000

Upside from current levels: +16%

Core thesis: Earnings growth is expected to accelerate to around 14% next year, which will help drive the stock market higher. Valuations in the S&P 500 should be supported by higher payout ratios, fewer large earnings declines, and inflation remaining below its long-term average.

"Our demand-supply framework suggests mid-teens returns on the back of positioning rising from neutral, a continued cross-asset inflows boom benefiting equities, and buybacks rising in line with earnings," the bank wrote a client note.

I previously used the word ‘unfunding’ or ‘defunding’ the Trust but I believe that is in error and can cause unnecessary misunderstanding. The Company is not defunding the Trust but rather funding it ‘monthly’ as opposed to carrying a long term balance. There IS a tax advantage for both Company and Beneficiary from the Section 501(c)(9) nature of the Trust so, one would expect to see the Company continue to keep the Trust even though the funding is not executed well in advance.

Death of a Pilot: A World War II Christmas Story

As a gift to The Daily Independent readers, the Jesse Stuart Foundation is pleased to share a story from “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” a collection of true stories from the Library of Congress that celebrates the spirit of Christmas during World War II. This story is entitled “Death of a Pilot.”

We dreaded Christmas that year. It was 1944, and it seemed that the war would never be over for our family.

Born in the Midwest, my brother Bob rode horseback to school but wanted to fly an airplane from the first day he saw one. By the time he was twenty-one we were living in Seattle. When World War II broke out, Bob headed for the nearest recruitment office. Slightly built, skinny like his father, he was ten pounds underweight.

Undaunted, he persuaded Mother to cook every fattening food she could think of. He ate before meals, between meals, and after meals. Finally, he passed the weigh-in with eight ounces to spare.

When he was named Hot Pilot of primary training school and later involuntarily joined the “Caterpillar Club” (engine failure causing the bailout) at St. Mary’s California, we shook our heads and worried. Mother prayed. Bob was born fearless, and she knew it. Before graduating, he applied for transfer to Marine Air Corps at Pensacola, Florida. He trained on torpedo bombers that were being sent into combat overseas.

Bob died under enemy fire over New Guinea in the plane he wanted so desperately to fly.

Mother’s faith sustained her, but father aged before our eyes. He would listen politely when the minister came to call, but we knew Daddy was bitter. He dragged himself to work every day but lost interest in everything, including his beloved Masonic club. He wanted a Masonic ring. At Mother’s insistence, he’d started saving for the ring, but that ceased, too.

I dreaded the approach of Christmas. My late brother had loved Christmas. His surprises were legendary: a doll house made at school, a puppy hidden in a mysterious place for our little brother, an expensive dress for Mother bought with the very first money he ever earned. Everything had been a surprise.

What would Christmas be without Bob? Not much. Family was coming, so we went through the motions as much for his memory as anything, but our hearts weren’t in it.

On December 23, an official looking package arrived. My father watched stone-faced as Mother unpacked Bob’s dress blues. Silence hung heavy. As she refolded the uniform to put it away, a mother’s practicality resurfaced, and she went through the pockets almost by rote.

In a small inside pocket was a folded $50 bill with a tiny note in Bob’s familiar handwriting: “For Dad’s Masonic ring.”

If I live to be one hundred, I will never forget the look on my father’s face. Some kind of transformation took place – a touch of wonder, a hint of joy, a quiet serenity that was glorious to behold. Oh, the healing power of love! He stood transfixed, staring at the note and the trimly folded bill in his hand for what seemed an eternity, then walked to Bob’s picture hanging prominently on the wall and solemnly saluted. “Merry Christmas, son,” he murmured, and turned to welcome Christmas.

The Christmas spirit strikes again

I always dreamed of pulling off the surprise prank of a lifetime. You know, the kind you see on TV, or laugh about late at night with friends? Well, thanks to a little determination, some luck and a generous helping of Christmas Spirit, my dream became a reality.

My family is Canadian, although my sister moved down to Australia a few years ago to study speech pathology. She was graduating just before Christmas, but due to my own scholarly schedule back home, I would not be able to make it down in time for her graduation. She was understandably disappointed, and I felt guilty that I wasn’t able to be there for her on this most special of occasions.

While I was talking to my supervisor the week before my sister’s graduation, the conversation drifted toward Christmas plans. When I mentioned that I would be missing my sister’s graduation by less than forty-eight hours, she commented, “Well, if you want to go, I have no problem with it, so go ahead!” I couldn’t believe my luck! I nearly jumped for joy. “Just make sure you get permission from admin,” she added. My heart sank. The administration at my school was notorious for denying any sort of time-off requests, and last-minute pleas would undoubtedly draw nothing but ire. I almost didn’t bother asking, because I knew it would be a waste of time and I didn’t feel like a thorough chastisement. Plus, I knew the answer already: no. But something in me decided to try, just in case. Maybe it was the hope that the Christmas Spirit would somehow permeate the administrative office at this time of year.

When I returned home to find the Associate Dean’s reply in my inbox, I steeled myself for disappointment. I gritted my teeth, opened the e-mail and started to read. And re-read. And re-read, just to make sure I’d understood. Approval? I could actually go? I rubbed my eyes—there must be a mistake. But no. I was flabbergasted. There was no logical explanation. I couldn’t believe my luck! The only explanation I could possibly come up with was that the Christmas Spirit had been lurking in the heart of my Associate Dean when she’d read my request.

Immediately, I called the airline. Miraculously, even during the busy Christmas season, I was able to change my ticket to arrive the day before my sister’s graduation.

With news this fantastic, I was bursting to tell my sister. But, fingers on the dial, I paused. Wouldn’t it be so much more fantastic if I could surprise her? I pictured myself just showing up, knocking at her door. What a state of shock she would be in! I laughed gleefully to myself as I pictured her face when she opened the door and saw me. She loves pranks and practical jokes of all sorts. Pulling off a prank like this would certainly be the ultimate gift, and if I were successful, she’d probably be more excited about my unconventional arrival than even my attendance at her graduation.

Slowly the idea evolved in my mind. For a surprise of this grand a scale, I needed a much more dramatic arrival than just a ring of the doorbell. For me, Christmas surprises are epitomized by presents. Or at least boxes. What if I could arrive in a box? I started to plot. Then, brilliance struck. Getting delivered in a box to my sister’s house by couriers! I knew if I pulled this off, my presence at her graduation and my grand arrival would be the best Christmas present I could ever give my sister. No one appreciates a prank like a prankster!

Although I was leaving in less than seventy-two hours, I frantically jumped on my computer in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, and started Googling courier companies. One of the first I came across, and the only one willing to go along with my Christmas surprise, was CouriersPlease. At first the branch manager said no, pointing out that Christmas was their busiest season and he couldn’t spare a courier for this rather unorthodox request. But he suddenly and inexplicably warmed up to the idea and actually volunteered to dress up and deliver me himself. The Christmas Spirit strikes again!

Upon arrival in Australia, the manager met me in full uniform, but that wasn’t all. He’d brought one of his couriers, plus a CouriersPlease van along for the ride as well! They even had a reinforced box prepared for me that they’d already tested at the office. I’d thought it would be easiest to walk up to the doorway, and then jump in the box while they rang the doorbell. But no, they insisted; my sister might see me through the window and they certainly didn’t want to jeopardize my Christmas surprise. Instead, they parked a few hundred meters up the street, where they loaded me in the box and carried me all the way up to my sister’s, where they rang the doorbell and announced they had a delivery for her.

I couldn’t see the look on my sister’s face as she opened the door to couriers with a surprise delivery, but I could tell from her voice that she was more than a little perplexed. This soon morphed into utter disbelief and shock when the box was opened and she saw her older sister sitting inside smiling up at her. She was at a complete loss for words, and I will never forget the look on her face as she opened those flaps on the box.

It was such a gift to be able to attend my sister’s graduation, and to show her my love by giving her the most unique, unconventional Christmas present in the history of our family. It was a memory both she and I will cherish forever. It also served as a lesson for me: never, ever underestimate the power of the Christmas Spirit. It can move hearts, minds and yes, even people in boxes.

The New Delta Air Lines Long Haul Aircraft Coming in 2026

Delta Air Lines has made some unique fleet decisions compared to other US carriers. On the widebody front, it has gone with Airbus for new twin-aisle planes, while American and United rely on Boeing jets. In addition, both of Delta's competitors fly a small fleet of Boeing 777-300ERs as their flagship aircraft (20 in the case of American and 22 in the case of United). Meanwhile, Delta's largest aircraft is the Airbus A350-900, an airliner more comparable in size to the Boeing 777-200ER.

Soon, however, this will change, as Delta Air Lines holds orders for 20 A350-1000's, which are nearly the same size as the 777-300ER. These will be the largest aircraft that Delta has operated since the retirement of the Boeing 747 in 2017, and the Atlanta-based carrier intends to begin taking delivery of these planes in 2026. As such, they will serve a new role for the airline, and they're also expected to debut new interiors, given the age of the carrier's current premium products.

Delta's Airbus A350-1000 Order

In 2024, Delta Air Lines ordered 20 Airbus A350-1000s along with 20 options. The carrier currently has 39 A350-900s in service and five more on order, for a combined total of 44 planes. Once the A350-1000s are delivered, this will total 64 aircraft, and if Delta decides to exercise its 20 options, this will add up to 84 Airbus A350 family aircraft in Delta's fleet. This would make it the world's third-largest operator of the Airbus A350, behind only Air France and Turkish Airlines.

The A350-1000 is a larger variant of the A350-900. It features a fuselage stretch that matches the length of the Boeing 777-300ER, although the latter holds more passengers as it seats ten-abreast in economy (as opposed to nine-abreast on the A350). However, the A350's more space-efficient interior layout helps close the gap slightly.

The A350-1000 features a larger wing and new landing gear compared to the A350-900, along with more powerful Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines. This model is available with a Maximum Takeoff Weight of up to 322 tons, and it has a range of up to 9,000 NM (16,688 km). While its sales have historically lagged significantly behind the A350-900, the A350-1000 has outsold the A350-900 in 2025.

Dear PCN, I have been running a web community with a website or blog and newsletter since the 90’s. On August 3, 2009 I merged my community with the one founded by David Roberts and formed the PCN for our retired pilot community. Here it is 2025 and we’re still together and I am still doing this.

I am going to Retire from the PCN no later than the end of 2025.

I would like to hand off the Newsletter and management of the PCN so someone who feels that the torch is worth carrying on. For any member interested or wants to learn what’s involved I would enjoy that call and chat. My efforts will continue, giving it the ole college try at finding a successor. At some point, if that replacement Director/Editor is not found I will have to bow out. So if you may be so inclined please consider this opportunity. It has always been a pleasure and a honor to serve this exceptional group of aviators.

Will Thanksgiving Week Keep the Market Rally Alive? US Stocks Enter Holiday Stretch with Strong 2025 Gains

Even while investor optimism is clouded by concerns about the AI bubble and Fed uncertainty, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq enter a shortened Thanksgiving week with strong year-to-date returns.

Thanksgiving week in the US stock market: The S&P 500 is up 12.3% in 2025 through November 21, and the Nasdaq Composite is up 15.3%, with total returns somewhat higher at 13.6% and 16%. The US stock market is starting Thanksgiving week with a truncated holiday schedule and a great year well underway.

On Thursday, November 27, markets will close early at 1 p.m. ET on Black Friday. Investors are pondering whether Thanksgiving week normally brings gains, especially as fears about a possible AI bubble and uncertainties surrounding a December Federal Reserve rate decrease continue to weigh on the mood.

Thanksgiving week frequently outperforms its proportionate share of annual returns, according to a survey of the previous ten years. Thanksgiving week exceeded the Nasdaq's 28.6% rise and the S&P 500's 23.3% gain in 2024. A stronger-than-expected Thanksgiving stretch in 2023 mirrored the Nasdaq's 43.4% increase and the S&P 500's 24.2% year gain.

Despite supply-chain disruptions, China lockdowns, rising inflation, Fed tightening, and geopolitical shocks causing both indices to register sharp losses of 19.4% and 33.1% in 2022, Thanksgiving week nevertheless produced a big upside surprise.

Even while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq saw increases of 26.9% and 21.4%, respectively, in 2021, Thanksgiving week fell short as late-year volatility hinted at the subsequent decline in early 2022. Thanksgiving week exceeded expectations once more in 2020 as the S&P 500 increased 16.3% and the Nasdaq climbed 43.6% due to pandemic-driven tech demand.

Except for 2018, when both major indices finished the year down and the holiday period underperformed due to worries about a slowing economy, Fed rate hikes, and U.S.-China trade tensions, the pattern persisted in 2019, 2017, 2016, and 2015. Even in stormy years, seasonal momentum frequently exceeds broader market fears, as evidenced by the ten-year history of relative strength around Thanksgiving week. Thanksgiving week has arrived, and the calendar for US markets will be modified.

On Thursday, November 27, markets close, and on Black Friday, they close early at 1 p.m. As Investors are heading into the holiday with mixed emotions. Concerns about the AI bubble are mounting. It's possible that the Fed won't lower interest rates in December. However, stocks are still up for the year.

Stock market today: Dow, S&P 500, Nasdaq surge to records as tame inflation cements Fed rate cut bets

US stocks surged to record highs on Friday as investors digested a crucial inflation report that helped cement expectations for the Federal Reserve’s next policy moves.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) rose 1%, or over 450 points. The S&P 500 (^GSPC) gained 0.8%, while the Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) jumped 1.2%.

The September inflation data released on Friday morning came in cooler than expected. The headline Consumer Price Index rose 3% on an annual basis, the highest level since May but softer than forecasts for a 3.1% gain. Month-over-month, prices rose 0.3%, a slight cooling from August's reading and also below expectations.

The report was delayed by more than a week due to the ongoing government shutdown, and was the first major economic release since the closure began, giving investors a long-awaited pulse check on the economy.

The CPI data did little to shake the near-unanimous investor confidence in a coming rate cut from the Fed next week — and more beyond that. Around 99% of bets are on a quarter-point cut next week, while some 96% of traders expect another slash in December.

Meanwhile, President Trump injected fresh uncertainty into trade negotiations with key US partners, announcing Friday he would cancel trade talks with Canada. Trump cited a Canadian advertisement against his signature tariffs plan which features the voice of former President Ronald Reagan.

In corporates, Intel (INTC) shares pared significant gains after the chip giant reported third-quarter revenue that topped Wall Street estimates.

"We believe we're well-positioned to play a more significant role in AI," Intel's head of investor relations John Pitzer said in an interview with Yahoo Finance.

US expects more flight delays as controllers soon to miss paychecks

PHILADELPHIA, Oct 24 (Reuters) - U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy on Friday said he expects more flights to be delayed, with air traffic controllers set to miss their first paycheck as a federal government shutdown enters its 24th day.

Some 13,000 air traffic controllers and about 50,000 Transportation Security Administration officers must work without pay during the government shutdown. Controllers will miss their first full paycheck on Tuesday.

"I think as we get closer to Tuesday and then after, I think you're going to see far more disruption," Duffy said on Fox News' "America Reports."

The state of air safety has been closely watched for signs of worsening delays or cancellations, anything that shows the shutdown is making life harder for Americans, which in turn could pressure lawmakers to break the deadlock.

Duffy said at a press conference at Philadelphia Airport that the Federal Aviation Administration's air traffic controller academy will run out of money within weeks to pay air traffic control students and that a few students had already decided to withdraw or not begin classes.

Airlines are bracing for more disruptions.
