Most of them were along the lines of "Chris Brown can beat me up any day." It would seem getting beaten by a superstar is a turn-on.
Chris Brown stunned the world when he assaulted his then-girlfriend Rihanna three years ago and one thought that spelled the end of his career. But it would seem he has gained notoriety and is more popular than ever. What is wrong with these women? Have they no self-respect or is there a joke that I have missed?

http://www.buzzfeed.com/mjs538/horrible-reactions-to-chris-brown-at-the-grammys

If this Valentine's Day shoot is not blatant publicity, I don't know what is. I don't know what makes me cringe more : her attempts to become a Playboy bunny or his disgusting, leering, smug expressions. But think about it: everybody wins! He gets to have sex with a teenager and she gets the press attention she craves.

At the end of the day, three questions spring to mind:
1) Has she had breast implants?
2) How long will it last? I am taking bets.
3) How long will it be before we see a reality show?

Enjoy the vulgarity...

She's such a sassy older woman, one would imagine she was just as pretty as a young woman. I wasn't wrong - and I was a little tickled to come across this one. Fonda has admitted that she wasn't a good mother when her children were young as she was so caught up in participating in the anti-Vietnam protests. Here is her mugshot.

On a big lazy Sunday when there is not much else to do but chill, Eoin and I made our way to Cinnamon café bar in Ranelagh village. Armed with our copy of The Sunday Times, we waited by the door to be seated for about five minutes. I am not complaining - it was a good opportunity to give the establishment a once-over. Dotted about upon the ecclectic "shabby chic" wooden chairs and soft leather couches were yummy mummies, hipster students and the usual "Sex And The City wannabies" who I have commented on once in the last month and I sure it won't be the last time. I find them amusing as well as irritating - usually the former.

The walls were lined with bottles of wine for purchase and well as gourmet goodies strategically positioned on various stands. Behind the busy kitchen counter staff buzzed and swooshed. At the far end is a wallpapered wall adorned with Oriental style peacocks and a caged light instalation also giving the appearance of a bird. Next to it, a brick wall is cleverly covered with hand mirrors.
Note to self - come here just after 4.30pm or just before 1pm at the weekend, for it is crazy busy. But then suddenly as it tends to be in busy cafes - half the clientele flees. It's quite something.
We eventually got the smiley waitress's attention and were led to a cosy little corner. The savory food order window had been and gone, but we were here for the cake. It was just the ticket for soothing our hangovers. The sweet menu is seriously impressive - there are in total twenty-twotreats to choose from at €4.95 each. They include American chocolate cream cake, crème brûleé, brownies, strawberry gateau, Belgian chocolate biscuit cake and a series of tartlets. Eoin had the safe and comforting sticky toffee pudding and I had the marvelous profiterole gateau - I didn't know such a thing existed, so I was keen to try it.
Eoin says his toffee pudding was well-presented in a little tower and very smooth and tasty, though the portion was a bit mean. My gateau was delicious. It was a generous slice with little profileroles at the top and a smooth chocolate sponge at the base. It's just as well that Eoin doesn't like cream - he wasn't getting any!
And don't me started on the selection of herbal teas - many of my friends should take note. I am from a big community of tea fiends and I think this menu might well impress. There is White Monkey, three kinds of Rooibis, Puh-Er, Maté, Touareg and numerous others served to you in a big twee pot with delicate china cups (at just €2.95 a pot). Total granny chic - complete with a delicate little tea strainer. Eoin found the cups a pain to lift with his big man fingers, but I found this charming. I tried the Rooibis Tempations which was a mix of mango, strawberry and others while Eoin had the Maté. Mine tasted like The Body Shop in tea form but I like that - I found it refreshingly sweet. Eoin's Maté is lighter than he is used to but he found it pleasant.
The staff are very friendly if forgetful the odd time - I thrice asked the waitress for a glass of water - but they are well-meaning and helpful. What else can I say? I loved the place the minute I walked in. Eventually we moved to one of the bigger comfy couches - ideal for leafing through the papers. I think one could gladly spent the afternoon here. And evening, for that matter. We found it hard to leave! We ended up staying until 7.30pm having arrived at 4.30pm!
The dinner menu made my mouth water - for just €12.50 you could get an artisan cheeseboard or a similar setup with cured meats. Other options for around the same price include breads with red pepper houmous or chicken liver and fois gras paté. Other dishes of note include tiger prawn linguine and wild mushroom risotto with parmesan shavings. The most expensive item on the menu was just €17. It is usually a given that any sort of meat or cheese boards will have limited bread to accompany them, but there was a reasonable selection of crusty bread. Also laid out were some crackers with apple, chutney and about four different kinds of fromage (I am guessing stilton, cheddar, wensleydale and edam). We had a glass each of the red Ill Bucco at €5.50. The wine wasn't life changing, but it was acceptable. However, if you were willing to pay that bit more, there is a grand selection of better and more robust wines on the list served by glass, small or large carafe and by the bottle.
So café by day, wine bar by night - this place has it all. I noticed that the lights were automatically dimmed at 6pm, showing the transition into night time and the change in mood. And while Cinnamon veers on pretentious, it doesn't quite overstep the mark.

When I was a little girl all I wanted to be was a famous actress accepting Oscars and such things. The idea of being universally adored and not really having to do much hard work (I know this is not the case as an adult) seemed so amazing. And not to mention the money.
Seeing this film and the lengths the Julia Roberts character goes to in order to be anonymous reminds me of how difficult this life must be in spite of unlimited access to well, anything and money being no object. My views on this childhood dream have become more realistic. I don't think I would like people bothering me when I simply want to go to the shop for a pint of milk. It must be so dreadful to be pestered all day everyday by members of the public. Yet this is what actors go through and the press and those who buy the magazines have no sympathy. The way they see it is that the actors want to be famous so they must put up with it. I must disagree - I think just because you are in the public eye, it doesn't mean your life is public property and the press must be more considerate towards those they are hounding. You sign contracts for work, not your soul.

She has always had a lean, feminine body, so you can imagine my surprise when I saw this photo of her looking rather flat and bony in the chest. I know she doesn't exactly have big boobies, but I did a double-take. Apparently Larter is very into fitness and looking after herself, as most actresses are. Fair enough, but I don't know if I like this look.

Here we see the beautiful models lounging around in a lovely, soft light beside the Meditteranean sea. Could it look more idyllic? The women are girlishly feminine with flowing locks and flirty skirts. The men are preppy and dapper with their crisp shirts and bowties with slicked back hair. I think the concept is enjoy the summer while looking relaxed and chic.
Not only is Pull and Bear afforable, but it is versatile. There is everything you could want from loose sweatshirts, elegant skirts and dresses, and dainty lace tops with chic clutches. There are also ties worn as head bands and other cute accessories. There are two reasons behind this, and neither of them are that I feel I must look like a skinny model.
One : my clothes are getting tight. Two: I feel I weigh too much for my height (11 stone at 5'7). Between the ages of nineteen and twenty-four, I was between 9 and 9.5 stone - which is what I should be now. The other day I tried on my boyfriend's jeans. To my horror they fit me - and Eoin is a hardy, 6'1 man! That's when I realised something must be done or I might be headed down a slippery slope. I call what has happened to me "quarter life spread", for when I hit twenty-five my body began to change.
I guess it's easy to become cocky when you're a skinny teenager - you think you can eat everything you want. But believe me, it all catches up with you. All those McDonald's, all those sandwiches laden with mayonnaise and cheese. I shudder when I think of what I put in my mouth.
So I have decided to cut out the junk for now, to eat more fruit and vegetables, control my portions and I will get more exercise. With any luck, I will get back down to my ideal weight and I won't have to shop for new clothes.
While this has been on my mind, I have come across a couple of interesting articles relating to weight gain and healthy eating. A lot of it made sense and I have taken the information on board.

One was by Rachael Anne Hill. She states that almost half of men in the UK are overweight and a third of all women are overweight. According to research, while exercise has played a key role in fighting the fat, there has not been a major drop in the intake of calories. So what is the the cause of our expanding waistlines that we have failed to spot? Fear of cooking. When I considered this fact, it made sense. People are more inclined to overeat when they don't have to cook, whether it is out at a restaurant or ordering a takeaway.
I love to cook - it is so rewarding when you eat something delicious that you put the time and thought into. And I know that when you spend an hour or so preparing dinner, by the time you come to sit down you're less hungry. I do agree that you can control your portions this way. However, I think it really depends on what you cook. If you are making yourself a burger and chips on a regular basis, I doubt that it will make much of a difference to what you see on the scales.

This leads me to the other article I looked at by Doctissimo on Yahoo. There is a term called "Orthorexia", which is an obsession with eating healthy or "pure" foods. The reason this is a problem is it can lead to obsession and excluding of a lot of things from your diet. Orthorexians will often omit any food that contains pesticides or chemicals. The reason this is not recognised as a disorder like anorexia or bulimia is that orthorexians are well-meaning. The term comes from the Greek word "orthos", which means right or correct.
So what are the risks if you are one? For a start, your social life may suffer. For orthorexians will refuse impure food or spend hours developing meals that cater to their needs. This could pose a problem when attending dinner parties or going to restaurants where they don't know how the food is prepared. But the main issue is passing on this dietary education to children, who may grow up anorexic or bulimic because guilt might stem as a result of eating.
Steven Bratman devised a test to see what makes an orthorexian. Some factors are if you spend more than three hours a day thinking about your diet, if your partner or children are forced to eat healthily because of you and if your diet prevents you from going out.
Wow, a lot of that sounds scary. I am glad that while my weight and waistline have been playing on my mind in the last couple of months, I would not go to that extreme. I think cooking good food with smaller portions and moving around more will do me just fine!

1. Dr Steven Bratman’s Orthorexia Home Page
2. All I knew was I like Nick Cave and that David is a talented musician. That was good enough for me.
I first met David in 2004 when I was seeing a friend of his. We were introduced at his tiny little bedsit, a place that might be a landmark when he becomes famous! His walls were lined with books, posters of dark and interesting people, and he lived on a diet of cigarettes and coffee. The place had character. David eventually showed me his poetry which reflected his warmth and wit. We shared the same interest in music, books, culture and nicotine. After the demise of my brief relationship we lost touch for a while, so you might imagine I was delighted to see him again on such a special night.

I must confess that I was initially thrown by the set-up. Once Eoin and I reached the venue, we were stunned to find that it was sold out. The scene was worse by the time we got upstairs - to find a seated audience and the only two free chairs were in the front row - so I grabbed them and Eoin ran next door to get some wine. I think this was perhaps the only downside to the night. The room was small, cozy and the fireplace was lined with little candles, giving the gig an intimate feel. The icing on the cake was a painting of Nick Cave at the stage area.
I was initially self- conscious about being right at the front wearing "short shorts" and lacy tights. The entrance of David melted away any of my insecurities - I knew then for a fact that nobody was look at me. He instantly got into character - charmingly dark and brooding. In between songs which included People Ain't No Good (probably my favorite), David calmly sipped red wine. The interpretation was flawless - his tone, the timing, his mannerisms and the atmosphere were spot on - the nature of the venue, the audience's response and the music all interacted very well. About halfway through the show David was joined by the ethereal beauty Emilie Conway for a duet - the song was Henry Lee, which Cave had sung with Polly Harvey many moons ago. Emilie was magical without totally stealing the show - and there was sizzling chemistry between the pair. Oh yes.
I compared notes with Eoin, who is not a major fan of Nick Cave - he was very impressed by the quality of the performance and was delighted that he had joined me.
There was an encore and then a second encore where David played one of his own songs due to running out of material! He was touched and humbled.
The festivities continued to the pub - naturally. The show was so popular that David was asked to perform the following night as well. All-in-all, this was an illuminating experience and I hope there will be many more evenings like this in the near future.

www.ranelagharts.org

As I sipped my tall cappuccino with a dusting of chocolate I subtly scanned the room - in it I could see almost all representatives of the type of people we see on a daily basis. There was the group of pretty girls gaily nattering, who thought they were in Sex And The City.
I saw the slightly unkempt older woman with just her cup of coffee in front of her, who seemed to be deep in thought about life. There was a suited gentleman to the left of me with a copy of the FT. At the back there was the hipster student with non-prescription Buddy Holly glasses gleefully sucking up the free Wi Fi. There were the busy mums getting their coffee to go. There was the old, scruffy homeless man shaking his cup at the smokers outside. All around me I saw a great part of the big melting pot.

Ireland in my eyes is not really a coffee city like New York or London. Our typical drink of choice is the cup of tea. But it seems the coffee house provides us with a warm, fuzzy feeling just like any other part of the world. One might also spy among the patrons a great sense of competition. Looking for a seat is almost like a game as well as being about timing. Have you ever noticed that one minute a café is jam-packed with no hope for a place to rest your bum and then suddenly it isn't? And do you ever see that when you blatantly hover near a table of people with just a drop of their drinks left, they continue to sit defiantly? This pattern amuses me - for as I collected my cappuccino from the barista, I eyed the tables and the unkempt woman gave me such a smug look as if to say I only have two sips left but by god, you are not getting my seat, whippersnapper!

So it would seem that not only do cafés show all walks of life, but they show a great sense of one-upmanship and hierarchy, much like how most social groups and professions interact with each other. But I didn't rise to it - I grabbed a seat near the window and held the warm cup between my hands while I watched the world go by. Best seat in the house.

I have posed this idea to friends and family and all of them have said the same thing to me - that book shops are a dying trade. I can understand why they would say such a thing. With the rise of the Kindle and Amazon, how is one supposed to compete? And not to mention the cost of rent and paying staff in the worst recession since 1929. It seems like such an impossible notion where people see much better deals and convenience online. To start one's own website seems a much safer idea. But then you see photographs of such beautiful establishments all over the world. You think: if this is such a pipe dream, how do these places continue to thrive? It is because they give you the experience a website or a hand-held device simple cannot : atmosphere and service. To me, bookshops are about the feel and smell of novels, the hum and buzz in a place in which you might potter around for hours. For me it is not about the money (although I would obviously not open such a place if there was no opportunity to make any), but the fulfilment of a life-long passion. Maybe some day when the economy recovers I might get to make my mark. The Strand bookstore in New York City is such a place that gives me hope. It is called Bake My Cake and they are based in Booterstown. For €30 you can get boxes of twelve cupcakes with greetings spelled out such as "I love you" or "It's a boy" with a letter on each one and coloured frosting. Yummy mummies who don't want to cook for their kid's birthday party can buy boxes of desserts such as brownies, pink ladies and rice crispie treats for the same price. They also stock "DIY Supplies" such as frosting, decorating implements and much more. And best of all, they custom-make party cakes. I have two friend who received one of a bottle of Bombay Sapphire at their birthday party. It looked fantastic! Bear in mind, you will pay around €120 - €140 tops for a custom cake but it will be worth it to see the look on the recipient's face.

www.bakemycake.ie

I am currently at season four, which I believe is the best. So far apart from a forbidden emotional affair with childhood sweetheart, Billy Thomas, Ally's love interests have been rather weak. Larry Paul, played utterly charmingly by the amazing Robert Downey Jr is the icing on the cake and is the great relationship we had been dying for Ally to enjoy. This was the boost Downey's career needed - his history of drink and drug abuse dogged his appeal to directors, simply labeling him too big a risk. The show's ratings had never been so high as the viewers drooled over the delicious chemistry between the actors, who were dating in real life (are we surprised?). Downey was later fired from the show after charges of drug possession and subsequent jail time but by God, it was fun while it lasted! Just look at this stunning pair...their kids would have been gorgeous...

Cool, then tip into a bowl (leaving behind any excess liquid from the spinach) and mix in the nutmeg, feta, eggs and season.
4) Melt 30g more butter, and butter a non-stick spring form cake tin, about 20-22cm.
5) Put the first sheet of filo in the tin and brush with butter, letting the excess hang over the sides.
6) Add the next pastry sheet and brush all over with butter. On the web page it says you need four sheets of pastry, but two will do it.
7) Tip in the filling and fold over the excess pastry to cover.
8) Butter the top then bake in the oven for about 20-30 minutes until the filo is crisp and golden. Leave for 5 minutes before turning out and cutting into wedges to serve.

I am really into spinach at the moment. It's not just because it's low in fat, but it's good for you and there are so many ways to use it. I am telling you this, is sex on a plate. It's also vegetarian-friendly and high in protein. And to boot - I can guarantee if you bring this to a party, you will be very popular! Enjoy.

http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/468661/spinach-and-feta-filo-pie

Here we see Miss Stewart looking gorgeous in a rather fitting fairy tale gown, shot just after the couture shows of Paris Fashion Week. The pictures were taken by non other than Mr Mario Testino.
It is said that the issue will coincide with the release of Stewart's greatly anticipated Snow White And The Huntsman later this year. While her face is suspiciously orange and a bit shiny, I think she looks stunning. Here she is going to the Versace 2012 show. According to most of the celebrity gossip sites, Seal and Heidi Klum are no longer together and Johnny Depp and his lady, Vanessa "Joe Le Taxi" Paradis are apparently no more either. Although while the former have issued a formal statement confirming their separation, the latter remain tight-lipped. It does sadden me - they seemed totally in love! I say what hope is there for the rest of us if these people can't make it? But then again, in Tinseltown relationships are rarely what they seem. Here are some photos of the couples in happier times.

Johnny and Vanessa met at a friend's house in 1994 but Johnny was seeing Kate Moss at the time. "He made a big impression on me and during my years of solitude, he never left my thoughts", said Vanessa. They met again four years later. Johnny saw Vanessa across the room and he just knew she was "the one." Vanessa described the meeting as "un coup de foudre", or love at first sight. Johnny has said that meeting Vanessa and the birth of their daughter Lily-Rose made him realize "there's something to live for."

This stunning pair got together in 2004 when Heidi happened to be pregnant with her first baby by Formula 1 mogul Flavio Briatore. However, that relationship ended months before because of Briatore's infidelity. They initially met at the QW Awards in London, but it wasn't until they ran into each other again in a hotel lobby that sparks flew. It didn't matter to Seal that she was carrying another man's child - he loved her unconditionally. The couple married a year later and had three more children.
There they are singing at a Victoria's Secret fashion show. There are a few words one might associate with this lady - actress, red hair, Irish, but not jewelery. So I logged onto the site to check it out. Being honest, I half expected it to be a bit twee. I was wrong - the collection is quite the opposite! It is Hollywood-inspired, twinkling, utterly feminine and glamorous with an Irish twist. The range is based on O'Hara's own designs from decades ago. I immediately sent Eoin a hint.

This Blue Miracle topaz
ring (€100) is a replica
of the one O'Hara wore
in 1947's Miracle on
34th Street.
It's definitely my
favorite piece.

I don't have pierced ears but these Drop Earrings in Clear Stone (€40) would definitely inspire me to change that.

Then there are these beauties - the Drop Earring in Emerald Stone (€45).
