We have loved this calm and serene space, but with the addition of our new sofa I've been craving a little color. You know that feeling you get;) And the color that's been inspiring me lately is teal...

This is my coral wall gallery in our home office. I love coral and teal together, so when I saw this down filled pillow today at Pier One for just $29...I scooped it right up!

Hey guys, today I thought I'd share my favorite resource for finding fabulous Grasscloths and Wallpapers at a great price of course!

This online site has an absolute great selection of stylish wallpapers and 100 percent natural grasscloths at very affordable prices. I mentioned the other day that we're using grasscloth in our 1/2 bath. Because I'm looking for a clean and modern look, here's the tightly woven design we chose. (it's actually has more gray tones in person)...

I also have a client who's interested in using natural grasscloth for her dining room. Grasscloths are great choices for dining rooms, especially if the whole formal dining room look isn't your thing! Here are a few cool options...

Stripping Wallpaper...ugh!!

Hey guys, guess what project I started yesterday since we had a virtual monsoon here in Charlotte and everything I had planned for the day was cancelled.

I know, I know...it's hideous! Mustard colored faux sponge painted wallpaper... don't judge cuz we didn't hang it! However we did manage to buy a house with it :o Funny but I thought it would be one of the first projects we'd tackle, but it ended up being our last downstairs at least. And the border, I absolutely loathe wallpaper borders...the reason is they make ceilings look shorter. Think about it, that horizontal line visually shortens the height of a ceiling. Total insanity!

A year ago I used Grass Cloth for a client in their downstairs half bath, and the results were Amazing. Needless to say I've been wanting to do the same for our 1/2 bath ever since. So Grass Cloth it is, here are a few inspiration photos...

Our New Pottery Barn Sofa!

Ahhhh...

Now this is how I love to start my day! Not that it happens all that often ;) Before I show you our new sofa...here's a shot of our previous one.

She's been fabulous, but it's time for this traditional n' over sized beauty to make way for a new look...the PB Comfort Square Upholstered Sofa! She fits right in next to our cream shag rug and round coffee table. And the cool gray color called "Pewter", balances nicely with our warm beige walls...

I still need to add throw pillows to help tie in our leather chairs. A few of these would be nice...

So far this sofa is everything we thought it would be...stylish, affordable, comfortable with a crazy quick delivery. But let me warn you about the color. Pottery Barn's website showed this "Pewter" colored sofa as this...

Obviously the real version is much lighter. For us this worked out perfectly because I was worried the couch might be too dark. So when it came all light n' bright...I was super happy.

Updating the Family Room!

I'm beyond excited today!! Pottery Barn called and our new sofa will be delivered tomorrow morning...Wahoo! Here's a picture of our current sofa...remember I recently spruced her up with new throw pillows in an attempt to keep this couch a little longer? Yeah that didn't work...a more modern and streamlined couch is calling my name!

Check out the PB Comfort Square Upholstered Sleeper Sofa! Ahhh, love the clean lines. And the fabric we chose is PB's Everydaysuede in the color Pewter. This cool color should balance well with our warm tan walls. I've read so many great reviews about this fabric, mainly that it doesn't stain or pill. And since we have two very active kids and dogs...SOLD.

Here's a Mood Board I made of our family room. Remember these boards aren't exact, just a tool to help visualize a new space. The greige paint color in the upper left will be our new paint color probably within' 6 months to a year. Wish I could change that out now, but I'll have to wait.

Container Gardening...made simple!

Well the weather is ~~warm~~ actually hot here in NC and we've planted simple ferns in a few shady spots around the house. We also planted our urns by the front door with impatiens and asparagus vine...love the combination. Let's hope they hold up well to the afternoon sun! Here are a few pics...

One thing I love to plant every year are container gardens filled with a variety of plants and flowers. There's just something about mixing color, texture and height...all in the same pot. But every year I struggle with which plant combinations to use.

I recently came across a great website called...Container Gardening For You! This site takes the guess work out of which plant combinations work best because Brad (the author) shares his favorites, and even diagrams which plants go where. Check out a few of his tried and true favorites...

DIY - Painted Bedroom Furniture...Turquoise!

Wow, you've gotta see this painted bedside table and writing desk from I'm Busy Procrastinating! Love that blog name btw...but clearly this talented Diy blogger has been doing everything BUT procrastinating ;) These tables went from average dark wood, to this stunning turquoise blue...

Before both pieces were different, but matching paint and glass knobs/pulls tie the two together beautifully. And the turquoise paint color against the bold brown walls...PERFECTION.

Fabulous 4 Less..Ikat!

Are you a fan of Ikat fabrics? I have to say when this trend first started I wasn't sure if it would last (as many trends flop just as quickly as they start). But as time passes I find myself loving this unique pattern more and more. My guess is this fabric's earthy vibe balances well with all the modern lines we've been seeing in home decor lately.

Today I am swooning over this Washi Tape Mason Jar from A Pumpkin and a Princess! Lately I can't get enough of this fun tape in cute patterns and colors. And you can find it anywhere these days from Target to Michael's...even Wallyworld ;)

Our screened porch makeover is finished!

Hey guys, as promised here's the scoop on our screened porch makeover! But first let me show you where this room started. The cushions were very warm and colorful in shades or oranges and reds. So when they faded, I decided to give this whole outdoor space a new look. And it all started with new cushions from Garden Winds.

Garden Winds sells replacement patio cushions for most outdoor patio furniture sets - including sets purchased from Target, Lowe's, Home Depot, JC Penney, Costco, Sam's and more. So don't even think about having custom cushions made, because that will be expensive.

We bought this furniture about 4 years ago from Target and we still love it! No fading or peeling in the wicker, and it really stands up well to the outdoor elements. It's from the Madaga Collection. So here's the new look...

Ahhh, neutral & a sophisticated! We live on an acre, so this new serene space is the perfect backdrop for our beautiful wooded back yard.

This picture shows our ceiling fan...love the palm blades! See the white side table? That's the "garden seat" from Ballard. It's the perfect spot to set your drink down. I have one of these in the house too.

The brown pillow on the left is the sundial pillow from West Elm...they actually don't carry that design anymore. I snagged a few on clearance over a year ago. I love the pattern and larger size.

The gray quatrefoil pillow on the right is from The Home Depot.

Because the room is monochromatic, I added texture and nature inspired accessories everywhere. We've got plants, coral, a natural weaved basket, and lanterns I picked up from Lowe's.

Funny but the baker's rack above used to sit in our dining room when the hubby and I were first married. I spray painted it black, and re-purposed it as a garden rack!

Okay so that's how I design a monochromatic outdoor space...for less! I kept the furniture, switched out the cushions, added neutral colors in tans, grays and brown, and finally pulled the whole look together with nature inspired accessories all about texture.

So what do you guys think? Isn't it amazing how different a space can feel with a neutral color scheme?

Oudoor Makeover...finished!

Hey guys, well the cushions have arrived for our screened porch furniture and this outdoor makeover is done! Here's a sneak peak...

Ahhh, this outdoor space went from bold and colorful to calm, monochromatic & serene. Sigh!

It's Trash to Treasure Tuesday!

One of my favorite Diy projects are lamp revamps. Thrift stores have tons of vintage lamps in cool shapes that nobody wants because they're brass or some other odd finish. Case in point...this neon orange beauty below.

Well spray paint em' up, add a new shade...and you've got a one of a kind (new to you) lamp! Check out this project from Just the Bee's Knees!

Renewing windows with replacement glass...

Hey guys, let's talk about replacement glass. Not the most exciting topic I know, but if your existing windows have seen better days, and your not ready to buy all new windows for your house...then replacement glass is a good option.

I've posted this picture of our family room before. But what you don't see in this photo is that the windows behind our bamboo shades had to be covered. The seal between the two panes of glass were broken, causing condensation and cloudiness. So the hubby and I thought we'll just cover them up until we're ready to buy new windows. Well as you know - buying new windows for an entire house is a huge expense...our house is only 25 years old, and the windows still function just fine.

So we found another solution...replacement glass from The Glass Doctor. They replaced the glass in several of our windows that had broken seals and our windows look brand new again. Ahhh, let there be light!

Okay switchin' gears here, but remember I ordered new replacement cushions for our porch furniture from Garden Winds? Well they've arrived and here's a sneak peak..

We still need to power wash the porch and accessorize everything this week-end. So excited to take this outdoor space from warm and colorful...to a lil' more sophisticated & monochromatic!
