Apart from the planned visit to the Nilgiris, there was quite an accidental visit to a place which I would definitely visit again and again. This was situated in the foothill of Velliangiris at Kovai - Isha Yoga Foundation.

The first thing that really amazed me, upon stepping into the Isha lands was the architecture. I later heard that the founder of Isha, Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev was into building and architecture himself, amongst some other passions of his such as trekking, biking, writing and so on.

A trip to Isha Foundation, admist the peace of the Velliangiri mountains is something everyone should be doing before the end of their life. The 'Dhyanalinga', the 'Theerthakunda' and such will just be names, until you see and get amazed by one of the largest Lingas in the world sheltered by a dome which emplifies every sound made inside and a submerged mercury linga, solidified at room temperature.

The Isha Yoga Foundation to me, spells tranquility, beauty and peace, and I chose to bring with myself part of the temple, a copper serpent ring - serpents decorate the temple interiors at every possible opportunity they get. For me now, it's gonna be a continuing journey into discovering what nature withholds for me.

The Crane - National Bird of Singapore

The only constant is change, continuing change, inevitable change, that is the dominant factor in society today. No sensible decision can be made any longer without taking into account, not only the world as it is, but the world as it will be.
- Isaac Asimov

Change maybe the only constant, but I think Singapore is thriving on change a little too much. Ask any Singaporeans, and they will be quick to say, that they have lost the whatever little sense of nostalgia they had in the country. When a Singaporean shows you around his/her country, you cannot expect him/her to say, "Oh that was the place I used to play when I was young", or "That is my grandmother's flat, that is where my dad, and my uncles were born", or "That is the primary school I used to study in!". No you can't expect them to say things like that, because those places would have been knocked away from the face of earth years back, and in their place will stand newly constructed buildings, shopping malls, or pricey apartments.

Try entering the CBD of Singapore, and you cannot turn to a place, where there are not cranes. Of course! Because they are the national bird of Singapore anyway. Cranes dominate the skyline of Singapore, and there are just so much of them, that you can't keep up with them. And what do they remind you? "Change is the Only Constant".

So, since I am a Singaporean, and have constantly been living with these national 'birds' and loss of nostalgia, why am I suddenly blogging on this? Because, I woke up in the morning today (My first off day, since like 3 months, and have been working all 7 days because of 'Dhool' and was so looking forward to some uninterrupted sleep") to loud pounding under my block. When I looked down, I was appalled to see some major construction started near our void deck, and coconut trees around the area being chopped off, and sawed away mercilessly. Now nobody will understand if I tell them that I could see 3 coconut trees when I looked out of my window.

Need a little break...

Well, I have decided that I am going to come back to frequent blogging, after this Dhool season.

Imminent Danger to Thanjavur Big Temple
21/08/2008 18:49:44 G P Srinivasan

ASI (Archelogical Survey of India), department under Government of India, has been engaged in renovation work in the BrihadeshwaraTemple, popularly known as the Big temple for the past one year. This is the present state of parts of the temple after the so called renovation . In the name of conservation many valuble inscriptions, pillars, manadapam, shrines and original art have been destroyed beyond repair and rendered beyond recovery leading to irrepairable loss to the great Hindu heritage. The temple was apparently built like a jig saw puzzle. Each stone was weighed and balanced precisely viz viz the whole complex structure ; selected strictly according to agamas and shilapasastra and assembled like a mammoth jig saw puzzle. One has to know high level geometry and complex trignometry , material sciences and ancient temple architecture to understand the complex temple.

Over the years I have visited the templeatleast 100 times and taken around by experts in field. The entire gopuram was covered by Raja Raja Chola by Gold leaf coating known as Veli. When Malik kafur invaded South India, he d not only destroyed two tiers on the ardha mandapam, but also vandalised many parts of the temple. The temple remained under disuse for centuries and rebuilt by later day kings .The British and French had used the huge ramparts of the temple as their garrison to make long history short.

Last year when the ASI dismantled some portions of the huge complex by untrained contractors, who were never trained in ancient methods of constuction technology adopted by the King for constructing the Temple. Now they are having a tough time, as seen from the piles of wreckage which they dismantled for conservation, but now do not know how to it !

ASI lacks the skills technology and the minute care adopted in foreign countries for conservation. The temple complex resembles a war torn zone like Iraq. The temple has been reduced to piles of broken pillars and beams. This ancient temple, withstood the test of time, many floods ,rains and earth quake, is in imminent danger. Please read further. It is shocking to note the marks of granite cutters . They have been used to remove blocks of stone called "kumudappadai" Lotus motifs that adorn the outside walls of the huge temple. What Malik kafur could not do the, ASI is doing !

Rajarajeswaram more popularly known as the BigTemple (at Thanjavur in TamilNadu, India), was built a millennium ago by the Chola emperor Raja Raja I. The UNESCO has declared it as a World Heritage monument. It is completely under the control of the Archaeological Survey of India. The Thanjavur Palace Devastanam is in charge of the temple's religious administration only. It is the living muniment testifying eloquently to the multifoliate grandeur of the Chola Empire. It is a treasure-house of art, architecture, sculpture, painting, music, dance and the like, of Thamizhakam. It fosters the traditional Vedic and Agamic culture. It is hailed as the Devalaya Chakravarti. During the last one year systematic vandalism is taking place within the sacred premises of this great shrine in the name of conservation. Millennium- old inscriptions are getting shattered into smithereens. This is done under the blessed auspices of the Archaeological Survey of India. Portions of the Northern circumambulatory mantapam, the upapeetam and the athishtanam of the Maha Mantapam as also the inner part of the Sri Vimana are systematically destroyed in the name of restoration.

The circumambulatory mantapam was built by the Emperor's General known as Krishnan Raman alias Mummudi Chola Brahamaraya. These inscriptions bear testimony to the oral orders issued by the Great Emperor. A good many inscriptions were etched on the pillars, walls and basement. In these, only one pillar was slightly damaged during the invasion of the French and the British armies. However, the Maharatta Rulers, with great care, restored the pillar. The other pillars and also the roof-area of the Mantapam remained intact. Alas, the pillars treasuring these inscriptions, the cross-beams of the roof and also the ceiling stones have been broken to bits and thrown away. Replacement through fresh stones is at work. These new stones bear no comparison to the old ones at all. Moreover, the stones laid as foundation by Raja Raja have been uprooted, dismantled and carted away. It is said, lorry loads of stones have been sold secretly.

In addition to dismantling the stones in the adhistanam and upapeetam pertaining to Mahamantabam, granite-cutters have substantially damaged the Kumudappadai, thus in the process of weakening the building.

The inner plastering of the Sri Vimana had been totally removed as a consequence of which rain water seeps into the building and utterly spoils the ancient painting. As the protecting nets in the Sri Vimana have been removed, the Sri Vimana has become as asylum of bats. Sooner or later the sacred Vimana will be filled with the excrement of bats and noxious bad odour will pervade God's tower. The conservation is being done by untrained contractors and one shudder to think of immense damage which is imminent. May lord Siva save himself! Or else Hindus must step in to save the temple immediately to save the house of Lord Siva!.Hindus must approach the UNESCO immediately to save the Temple from further destruction and for immediate restoration.

Dhool Publicity Postcards

Just finished the design for the Dhool publicity postcards.
Just need to add the company logo, and it is good to go for printing.
Now the worry is distribution.. How about spraying it all around Singapore city from a helicopter?

I think Naresh was the last person to tag me, and i could not do his tag that time, cause was travelling too much. So jeevan's tag.. here goes..

1. LAST MOVIE YOU SAW IN A THEATRE:
Hmmm, first movie I watched after coming back to Singapore. Yaaradi Nee Mohini. Could not take it. Could not even remember the ending of the movie. Could only remember Karthik (RJ Suchi's husband) in Kovanam (Loin cloth)

2. WHAT BOOK ARE YOU READING?
True Love, The Sphinx and Other Unsolvable Riddles - It's a comedy actually about modern school kids, with their high-tech gadgets visiting Egypt. Quite blunt. Not liking it, since I am a true Egypt fan (I wanted to become an Egyptologist actually).

3. FAVORITE BOARD GAME?
Monopoly.. Anytime.. I just love buying and buying everything!

4. FAVORITE MAGAZINE?
Hmmm.. well I seem to now like the 'Prevention' magazine from US, they've got lots of interesting health related articles. Quite cool.

5. FAVORITE SMELLS?
I love the smell of my boyfriend.. haha, and I love my Issey Miyake, mum's cooking, wine - Merlot in specific (a certain fruity smell), smell of Henna (mum put some for my on my hand yesterday)...hmm.. lots more..

6. FAVORITE SOUND?
Water sounds, like the river, the waves crashing in the beach, I like the guitar's strum... the skype sound when someone comes online (love it because most of the times my boyfriend messages me there)...thats it for now..

7. WORST FEELING IN THE WORLD?
When you think that you are great and smart, and suddenly something which happens, smashes that thought, and your ego. Ouch!

8. WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU THINK OF WHEN YOU WAKE?
My boyfriend.

9. FAVORITE FAST FOOD PLACE?
I hate fast food.

10. FINISH THIS STATEMENT. "IF I HAD A LOT OF MONEY I’D...?
settle family commitments, save up some in a fixed bank account for the future, travel to see my missed one as much as possible, and go with him to a certain children's home in Coimbatore, buy them some stuff and donate some money to the kids there. It touched my heard when my BF said they kids there lovingly called him as 'Appa'.

11. DO YOU SLEEP WITH A STUFFED ANIMAL?
Started after BF got me a cute teddy, which I named Jaangiri. I lost it somewhere in my frequent travels. Told my sister that, and she got me an orange teddy which has 'I Love You' written on it.

12. STORMS-COOL OR SCARY?
Scary, expecially when I am fishing, and one approaches.

13. WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST CAR?
No car as of now, me and BF are planning to get the Skoda Fabia. I'm not really into hatchbacks, but I think they suit the best in India. So, I'm gonna start saving up for it, once I get my job.

14. FAVORITE DRINK?
Haha..I was dreaming about so much of beer last night. So I need a chilled one very badly now. I love Vodka with green chillies, and salt. But basically, I love plain water and fruit juices without sugar and ice.

15. FINISH THIS STATEMENT, "IF I HAD THE TIME I WOULD...
go crazy, because I have all the time in the world now. And for now, I am a fishing enthusiast.

16. DO YOU EAT THE STEMS ON BROCCOLI?
Oh yes. I love all veges. All parts of veges.

17. IF YOU COULD DYE YOUR HAIR ANY COLOR, WHAT WOULD BE YOUR CHOICE?
Mmm.. right now it is copper and mahagony, I think I will stick to that. I won't die my hair, I will probably just streak it.

18. NAME ALL THE DIFFERENT CITIES/TOWNS YOU HAVE LIVED IN.
I think i can safely say, I have liven in Singapore, Chennai, and Coimbatore. But I have visited, Delhi, Calcutta, Darjeeling, Malaysia, Indonesia, and rest of Tamil Nadu cities.

19. FAVORITE SPORTS TO WATCH?
Soccer, liked to watch Cricket when I was in Chennai. Even gave an unforgettable cricket commentary at the Chennai 28 cricket match, with absolutley no knowledge on that sports.

20. ONE NICE THING ABOUT THE PERSON WHO SENT THIS TO YOU.
Jeevan has alot of passion for words, reading and writing. He is soo hospitable. His mum's cooking is just fantastic.
Yeah I would not mind. I have a great family, and enough of what I need, and a fantastic lover, and his family. What more should I need? I am working on the finance part though.

23. MORNING PERSON, OR NIGHT OWL?
CNK - Catch and Keep
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWXzjASHM0UU9t7lijtLETdRQR6wyFAoxAAQVtluQQosZ2VFIx1l_GpC7WXYW9Iu89CRV4-2q8LJkwCGaziPthePNPZCeYgb6X9usBy5StwypwVLbtRJ12aIk8nno7X2_buYgu/s320/angle.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5192300232935437762" />
Jeevan's and Saras's response to my earlier post instigated me to blog this.
When it comes to angling, this has been a well debated topic. CNR to what extend? Will the fish actually survive after being released? Are we doing more harm to the fish? etc. And if you CNK, will yo deplete the fish reserves in the waters, are you depriving the coming generations from fishing?

Basically amongst anglers around the world, CNK depends on certain issues like whether the fish caught is worth consuming, are we keeping a rare, or endangered species, is the caught fish actually going to do any good to us; Certain species like the cobia are pairing fish (meaning that they have a mate that it swims together). If you take one home, you deprive the other of its mate. So CNR is practiced.

But do fish actually survive after CNR? Experts say that their chance of survival is anything between 1% to 60%. It depends on many factors, like where the fish is hooked, what type of fish, what kind of hook, and how you have handled the fish after catching them. Whether fish feel pain at all, is another highly debated topic, and Dr. James Rose, an expert in fish neurobiology at the University of Wyoming has constantly said that fish don't have the brains to feel pain, but many studies show that fish act weirdly, and abnormally after being inflicted with pain, or venomous substances.
Even if the fish are not badly hurt by the hook, the very act of fighting our fishing lines, thrashing their fins, causes enormous psychological stress for the fish. Furthermore, after they are pulled up from depths very quickly, their breathing is affected. So with all this factors, even though a fish may appear to swim away normally after being released, some say that they might die due to these stress in a matter of 2-3 days.

But I think it is very advisable that fish caught, if they will not be used as baits for the next cast, better be CNR-ed. Atleast, they can become prey to some other fish. And why underestimate their up to 60% rate of survival? If you want to keep the fish and consume it, then kill it immediately, instead of letting it thrash around in the cold hard floor. Any comments?

BJT, FNR... no Not Political Parties...

BJT and FNR are not political parties, although lots of fishing is involved in all three.
BJT stands for Bedok Jetty, a place in East Coast Park in Singapore, which is excellent for fishing, and FNR (Fishing News Room), is a very useful, Singapore based Fishing Forum, in which I signed myself in last night.

I used to fish, without knowing much about it, as in the lines, the reel, the bait, and most of the terminology, neither was I too involved with it. Things have changed now. Since I am pretty much jobless, and had to get myself occupied, I spend my days surfing, and thats how I came into contact with Kerry's (ShoreAngler) website.
I was immediately thrilled to discover Bedok Jetty, and was amazed by the catches of Kerry, so decided to drop in there yesterday with my rod and some mealworms (which are definitely not a good bait at all).
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOx8HYSzEqSghlTnPucpf_GUs2HWZZEstWnYK93lpaWDnj5qKVv8ikeacrjorfSi-eE_oCYWwR1JTg_VExu085iFOLEAXCy6z0gtgIwrpT0p69sIi6LFX9AD94mXz-HBoc9aQR/s320/BJT.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5191913501195204018" />
The seawater below the Jetty is swarmed with a certain type of fish called Tambans. You can see those at the top left hand corner... not easy to see in the photo, but they are those the little black dots. One can get the thrill of catching these fishes just for the sake of it, but many catch the tambans to use them as a bait to catch bigger fishes, and BJT is famous for such catches if you see Kerry's website.

For now, I am getting to learn all the basics from the fellow anglers, and I can't wait to put all that into practice, on my next trip to BJT!

Xochiquetzal... I mean Stripers..

I have an affinity towards men's shirts with pin stripes since a long time now. Somehow, they seem to accentuate the V-shape figure of guys, and make them look too sexy and masculine. I think girls who wear pin-stripes have a certain macho touch to them as well. But thats not where a guy's looks ends. Not many guys, actually know the rules, or rather suggestions when it comes to dressing up, and mot many females actually look out for details as such, but I would think, that would be a true sin.
To start it up, and to refresh my memory as well, I've got a simple list here...

If your skin is tanned, or olive, then you would look delicious with contrasting bright colours or whites... Now thats a gift for Indian men, because it really is a difficulty to carry white tops off.

If you are fair skinned, then Soft pastels or earth tones will look appealing

Women love to notice their guys eyes, so a sexy thing to do would be to match your shirt to your eye colour.

Always always try to sport a neutral somewhere in your body, that is the colour black, or navy blue either in your shirt, pants, or shades. Safe is better than sorry.

Your belt should always match your dress shoes. Basically, if you get a new pair of shoes, walk right over to the belt corner, and get a twin for your shoes. Its not enough to hold just one black, or brown belt.. PLEASE!

If the pin stripes in your shirt are narrow, then the ones in your tie must be broad and vice versa.

When you're going to office, try to match your socks to your trousers or shoes, and in casuals, your socks can afford to match your top or tshirt.

And list goes on and on. Who says that do not have to care about their appearance as much as women do? My guy is gorgeous with his dressing, and I am trying to learn more to see what can be the best for him.

And all you guys out there, go there, and make your woman fall for you everytime you dress up. Oh and I've not even started about men down to their skins... :)

Ellen Mania

I can't get enough of Ellen DeGeneres, I think she's what I call suave. Been watching her show, and the fact that she is gay, and she came out with it, makes it even more fabulous.

I love her smile, I love the way she dresses up, I love the way she just turned 50 this year, and is still so amazing.

That is Ellen's girlfriend Portia De Rossi, and by the way, Ellen is the shorter one. She says that when Portia wears heels, she feels like Tom next to Nicole.

"Golden eagles have an interesting way of mating, where they connect in the air while flying at eighty miles an hour and then they start dropping and they don’t stop dropping until the act is completed. So it’s not uncommon that they both fall all the way to the ground, hit the ground and both of them die. That’s how committed they are to this. I thought to myself, ‘Boy, don’t we feel like wimps for stopping to answer the phone.’ I don’t know about you, but if I’m one of these two birds, you’re getting close to the ground… I would seriously consider fakin’ it."

- Ellen DeGeneres

I think she rocks. Go Ellen.

Idhu Eppadi Irukku?...

Unearthed this picture.. The last time I went to the beach was in Chennai, at Mamallapuram where the Pallava temples by the sea are submerged, and that was around Valentines Day 2008. Singapore beach for a change was great... where the waves are never big, and where you can see lotsa ships at a short distance, due to our deep harbours. This time round, we went to the Punggol beach, and this is the first time I am visiting it.

Frankly speaking, its not all that scenic a beach, where you might expect nice soft sands, lotsa sea shells, a great horizon, and deep blue waters, with frothy waves. Rather it was littered with alot of construction stones, hardly enough shells, and an ugly sight of a cluster of tanker ships.

No more Radio Jockey, No more Hello FM, No more VIARAGA or REVAVUDAN, and I am back on a job hunt.

Touched back to town on 22nd March 2008. And the first thing I spotted which I did not remember from my 22 years in Singapore was the Terminal 3 construction in Changi International Airport.I don't see why anyone should believe that Singapore is a small country when we present such monstrous architectures (Architecht: Skidmore, Owings, Merrill). Its great to be on smooth roads fringed with purple bougainvillas blooming all season, and travelling with the absence of continous honkings. Sheltered pathways never give you a chance to get wet in the rain, and tender coconut sales along the road... who would even think of that, when there are pet-bottles for all drinks, and milkshakes and bubble teas. Who needs huge trains, with dirty toilets which excrete on railway tracks when we have the SMRT train service. And did I tell you all those sleepless nights launching 7 radio stations around Tamil Nadu?

Wait a minute...Do I feel like I am missing something?

Motokrzr K3m

Got a new mobile last night...

Always been impressed with Motorola's sleek black design, and the 'Hello Moto' ringing tone, from Vettaiyadu Vilayadu (realised Radhika in Arasi serial uses a Motorola too...)
Anyway, what pressed me to get this was the 50MB phone memory, excluding a 2GB SD memory card, and the 3G functions. Music playback is great (remember the Abhishek Motorola TVCs?)

There is also a touch-operation available on the outer cover of the mobile, to navigate and operate you music. I think that is pretty cool.
I am not really impressed with the graphics, looks a little anime, kind of away with the black sleek design.. I'll check whether there are any skins or profile changes i can make.

So i have moved from SIEMENS to NOKIA to MOTOROLA.
Lets see...

A Legend...

earth from sky.
More precisely, it is the line that divides all of the
directions one can possibly look into two categories: those which intersect the
Earth's surface, and those which do not. At many locations, the true horizon is
obscured by nearby trees, buildings, mountains and so forth. The resulting
intersection of earth and sky is instead described as the visible horizon.

- Wikipedia

Looking beyond the horizon... as cliche as it may sound, it is easier said than done. The horizon, is to limit... So if we could look beyond what limits us, we should be able to see, and learn more.. isn't it? If we could see beyond the intersection of the earth and the sky, then maybe we can find something that we've been looking for all our lives.. be it love, luxury, or the life we've always been wanting to lead. Whether you like it or not, there is a horizon which exists, and there is a world waiting to be caught by our eyes.

P.S after all this non-blogging days, do I really have to come out with this verbal diarrhea?

Oh Ranganathaa... Sriranganathaa...

Hello FM has successfully launched its 7th station in Trichy, thus, I go the chance of visiting Srirangam, a place, I have always wanted to visit, explore, and experience. I think the last time I went there was when I was about 7... so this time round, I wanted to learn about the place before visiting it...
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTFVHHKU0BZVT16caEBgkFdYH5D2QvyP_j6mUHW-UaAiM-U9Hl3WrdGpx_mETfoxfhEkeQWlLSvaei8TwvA7o2uAZ3pbsW4MtiImB7B5mR9YIVbRSTBOS9rPdj9ffJ4329F6X-/s320/srirangam.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5162652533422982066" />
What stayed in my mind, before visiting the temple was the
1. so called moon-flower pond, which i read about,
2. the 1000 kaal mandapam which was never completed,
3. the enormous temple towers, acres of temple space,
4. and the golden kalasam, where only Hindus are allowed...
but what i experienced made me remember more..

As what one told... "I like all travellers have seen more than i remember, and remember more than I have seen"
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFD3E2JPnpXNgwXxLx21nx_1wUw2iu61MrenOKEtU4D3GX4xLBUF5x9EwgFT1xtdiaQl7qANVoYfHg-t9tMGUp3W3cL02xS5DuUCUqZYSeJCyJTYVwuchdq7xlcskRjoqSX2Z2/s320/26012008486.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5162657090383283138" />
I managed to speak to one of the gurukkals there, and realised,
1. there is indeed a moon-flower pond, only that it is correctly called as 'Chandirapushkarani', there is also a 'Suryapushkarani',
2. the 1000 kaal mandapam is closed for viewers,
3. you can spend days and days walking around the temple in awe admiring the works,
4. and my friend and myself had to wait about 2 hours to enter the moolasthanam with the golden kalasam.
Apart from that, I visited the kili mandapam, thaayar sannidhi, a special raamar sannidhi, where you can see raamar in his kalayaana koalam, with anjineyar who has his tail above his head, considered extremely special.
I did not bring along my camera to capture all that I have seen, but I managed to come across a photoblog of Rohan Rao... http://ephotoz.blogspot.com/2007/03/few-photographs-on-my-tamilnadu-trip.html
check it out...

7 stations launched for Hello FM, Trichy being the 7th one, 7 was the age I last visited the temple, and it seems 7 is indeed a sacred number for Vaishnavites, as Srirangam is the only temple with 7 enclosures!!!

Srirangam is definitely a place, I will visit again.
