I have just officially had the month from hell. My energies have to be spent on healing not just some of my blood relatives, but myself. I have to throw myself into all the tools i’ve been given to keep myself from getting close to the deep end for a while. I’ll be ok. I just need a lot of space right now. I will be taking a sabbatical from blogging, commenting on blogs, tweeting, and youtubing. i will only be posting reviews of books i agreed to read and review prior to the events that have happened with my family. All i can say to the two eyes reading this is to be grateful for your lived ones. Life can end in the time it takes to snap your fingers. Take care.

I have a lot of reading to catch up on, so my blogs are going to be short for a while. Lots of vlogging on Youtube and posting it here. I'll try to type up at least one blog a week about stuff going on that I'm thinking about a lot during that particular week.

Today was also the first day in almost a month that Lexi got on the bus to school with no tantrum, and I'm just trying to get rid of all that anxiety of how difficult going through that was. She always loved school so when she was fighting tooth and nail not to go we were all pretty worried. But it was a phase just like I hoped it would be. Now I just have to try to get her to eat breakfast.

My little girl turns 6 in less than a month.

She Plays For Keeps

Lexi didn't make it to school yesterday. My dad had the day off so he tried to help me out. She was walking around just fine outside for a bit, but as soon as she saw the school bus, she tensed up and went dead weight. My dad tried carrying her but she was punching, kicking, clawing and yelling. We managed to get her on the steps of the bus but she wouldn't budge.

Monday morning her teacher and a lady from special services are going to come a few minutes before the bus comes and seeing if Lexi has her teacher with her maybe she'll get on the bus. Here's hoping.

She went through this phase when she was little. Except back then, of course, she weighed less and we could get her into the car seat. Once my parents were trying to get her into the car to go see my sister and she fought so hard that my dad had to bring her back into the house with me.

I can't wait for this to pass.

If someone's made up their mind to make sure their suicide is successful, there's nothing you can do about it. Sounds harsh, but this is a type of drowning that no lifeline will help. Addiction on the other hand, is a lot more insidious. I know this because in high school I became an addict. I was given tylanol with codeine for menstrual cramps. The first time I got high from them it was like a whole new world was introduced, a world where finally my body didn't hurt at all.

I also have PTSD and deal with panic attacks and anxiety in general, so I started xanax. That's when everything went to hell. I have smoked pot a few times, but I've never and WILL never try any other illegal drug. I have abused alcohol a bunch of times but I am definitely not addicted to it.

My impending demise is due to prescription drugs. I still have trouble not swiping pills from others, but I have been working so hard not to do that anymore, because it makes me really depressed for a week after.

After my daughter was born I fought really hard to get off pain killers and xanax and as time goes by I get further and further away from those damn things that ruined my life for so long. I haven't touched xanax in over 3 years.

Mindy I knew was not long for this world. I wish I wasn't right about that, but I've seen enough people who were not long for this world because of their addiction and trauma issues.

Unless you have a magic wand, no one can be "cured" of an addiction. You just go day by day working on keeping the Big Sadness at bay, because it will be in your life until you die.

For wild animals it seems pretty easy. If you are a lion or lioness, you belong to a pride. If you are a coyote, you belong to a pack. If you are a fish, you belong to a school. If you are a goose, you belong to a flock. If you are an ant, you belong to a colony. There is no second guessing: destiny takes a hand and like the first day of school, assigns you your seat, and you just sit there. You go where your group goes. You take care of everyone in your group and fend off any intruders to your territory.

What about those times when wild animals decide that their group does not have to only be comprised of animals who are in the same bloodline? A tiger in a zoo becoming close to its trainer, a pig having no problem nursing a stray kitten, a giraffe giving a house cat a bath.

How are we to be expected to stay in the compartments society wants to cage us in when even God's creatures break the rules from time to time?

1. Thou shall not yell when speaking to me.
My disability does not impair my hearing and I am extremely bright. Perhaps even brighter than you are.

2. Thou shall not ignore me, talk negatively about me, speak unnaturally slow, or ask questions to others in the room that pertain to me. I can comprehend what you are saying just fine.

3. Thou shall believe in me and help me believe in my skills and self worth. Note the good in me and do not merely point out my negative behaviors. Believe in me and I will believe in myself.

4. Thou shall not perceive me as dumb.
I am extremely intelligent. I do not learn in the same way as you, and maybe not as quickly as you expect me to. Have patience with me. Once I recall information, I never forget.

5. Thou shall not judge my behavior.
I can get overstimulated in certain environments. I may be hypersensitive to sound and loud noises may hurt my ears. Fluorescent lights are distracting for me. They have a humming noise, and can pulsate. All the noises in a room can blur together. Please make accommodations to help me.

6. Thou shall not be so quick to scold me.
Do not tell me that “I know what I did”. I do not. Tell me what my infraction was in a simple, concise manner. I want to please you, but I have difficulties inferring meaning within a vague statement. For instance, do not say please clean up your bedroom. Tell me exactly what you want, such as ‘Please make your bed and pick up your toys”.

7. Thou shall not compare me to others.
Please remind me, and note the talents that I possess. This increases my confidence and positive self worth. Learning disabled or not, we ALL have talents to contribute within society. I need you to help me realize what mine is. Believe in me and I will believe in myself.

8. Thou shall not exclude me from activities.
Please do not mimic me, ignore me, or bully me. Please invite me to play with you. It hurts my feelings when I am excluded. I like to run and jump in the playground, and be invited to birthday parties too. Grownups can help me make friends by encouraging other children to play with me. I can be a loyal friend if you get to
know me.

9. Thou shall give me choices.
I do not like being ordered about any more than the other children. Give me choices so I know you value my capabilities and opinions. Make them simple and concise. Present two options or so. I get confused when too many questions or directions are given at one time due to my processing speed. For instance, ask me if I would like to wear my blue sweater or green one, rather than asking which sweater I would like to wear.

10. Thou shall not judge me by my diagnosis, but by my character.
I am an individual, just like other children. As my son used to say, “Mom my name is John (name changed for his anonymity) not Asperger’s”. A profound statement I would say. :-0)

Last night after everyone was in bed I sat in the living room reading the bio of Edie Sedgwick and listening to classical music. There are a bunch of music TV channels on Comcast that I've listened to with a lot of friends and family members, but I couldn't listen to them because back then you had to have the package with the cable box back then. Now that everything's digital and I have them myself I always forget about them!

I forgot that I really like classical music soft in the background while I do what I do online or when I'm reading for pleasure or reading something I'm going to review.

I had the pleasure of being asked to review Veronika Carnaby's debut novel, Bohemia. I am a bibliophile, and while I have heard of "beat" artists and authors, I have little knowledge of the "bohemian" lifestyle and its history other than my knowledge of it morphing to the "hippy" movement and the musical "Rent". Heck, you can find traces of it in the most popular stable (which wound up consisting solely of Shawn Michaels and Triple H) in professional wrestling history, "D-Generation X":

"The group originated in the midst of the WWF's "Attitude Era" from 1997 to 2000. Their gimmick was that of a gang of rebels who broke the rules, acted and spoke as they pleased, no matter how provocative and/or insulting. Noted for their crude, profane humor and sophomoric pranks, the stable has been dubbed multiple times as the "most controversial group in WWF/E history".

Veronika Carnaby's variation of bohemian/beat culture in the '60's which is narrated by the main character, Valerie Freed. Valerie and her best friend Emma drift from one fancy to another after the club they danced regularly at, "The Ladybug", became too much of a place of ill repute for Valerie's liking. Emma wishes to become a regular dancer at "The Ladybug", an increasingly seedy night club that causes Valerie to walk out after the band who has been keeping a dark secret of the owner Bud, quits. She and her friends ramble from one place to another, one experience to another, with Valerie playing the part of a female Jack Kerouac. She describes a new age suffragettes protest equal rights for women, Valerie through one intense occurrence after another, in the hopes of finding her own voice and her own destiny:

"After so many months spent shadowing the foot tracks of others, the time came for me to move on in a direction of my own. I had nothing holding me back, nothing to chain me down, no one to follow. Freedom meant everything and I held it in my fingertips."

While there were a few mistakes along the way (I am not sure if they are only on the e-reader edition of the book and not the printed version), speaking as a rebel, I really enjoyed Valerie Freed for being so ahead of her time, and I also enjoy Veronika proving that men are not the only ones who can blaze a path all their own through the evolution of Bohemia, into the "beat" generation, into the "hippy" movement. She molds all of her notes and observations into a manuscript she peddled around Boston with no success. She gets hit with nostalgia and boils down this time in her life:

"One thing I did realize was that this is our revolution. We weren't going to be held back as prisoners by the social and cultural ideals of our predecessors. I ran like the vagrants of the old south carrying a bindle and thumbing north, tumbling like weeds of the Wild West, for I knew there was a whole lot left to conquer and even more left to write about."

While Valerie's journey is fictitious, it is an example of what countless women had gone through during the most tumultuous time in American history.

Veronika Carnaby is an American beat-style author and poet who is currently working on a follow-up to Bohemia.

The Mother and the Father: the Life of a Single Mother

I have been doing a little sniffing around for ideas for blogs, and I plan on starting to use the book of writing exercises I bought a while ago.

I'm just in a funk today because I still can't believe Lexi's dad never called us around Christmas. I tried contacting him with the number he gave me but it was always busy and the voice mail was always full. His cell phone must be shut off because he hasn't texted me either.

If this is some kind of harbinger, then I really need to take some time out of each day to let it sink in that I really am the mother and the father. He made it official when he couldn't even contact me on or near Christmas.

I'm not letting the fact that he cares so much what other people think about him effect me (I always confuse effect and affect. It's so annoying.). He always wants everyone thinking he's this upstanding guy while he goes around borrowing hundreds of dollars from his friends or ex's and never paying them back. He owes me money, and he owns my parents so much that it just makes me sick.

He is one of the most selfish people I have ever known. The fact that I do know he really does love Lexi isn't going to change that.

So far I have been blessed not to receive any drama from him or his family in a while. I wish I could hang out with Lexi's paternal side of relatives more often, and it hurts my feelings that they don't bother to call or contact me on Facebook every once in a while and ask if it's OK for them to visit.

All I can do at this point is try to think about all the relatives and friends (on and offline) who care so much about Lexi and I and would do whatever they could to help. Since Lexi was born there has been a ground swell of support that I never saw coming, and it never seems to end. The fact that Lexi has non-verbal Autism (she doesn't speak: she says a word or a sentence now and then but mostly she babbles like a 18 month old, which is also her mindset) has brought on even more support.

I just get emotional about all these things sometimes. Anyone would. I love my life but it is going to forever be an uphill battle.

IMPORTANT It is not often that I ask my readers to boycott someone-but if you know me well enough I don't cower to extortionists. I verbally slit their little piggy throats and turn them into bacon and pork chops. Why is it that the people who are supposed to have America's best interest at heart, do the most ruthless and disgusting things, not just in the dark but the by the light of day?

Icarus, one of the writers of IACLWE posted who is dealing with someone who is threatening to post personal info and worse.

won ownership of this FB page over internet bully Lou Colagiovanni. Icarus for all intents and purposes is just the messenger, and the new owner of AATTP is the one getting the escalating harassment and bullying.*

This is Icarus's statement:

Anyone who has ever interacted with me understands hopefully one thing - I hate bullies. I despise them. I firmly live by the conviction that if someone wants to push you around - you punch them in the face and knock out their teeth. We all have a responsibility to stand firm against those who would threaten and intimidate ... at any cost. One's principles shouldn't be negotiable.

So let me tell you a story. There is one person on the internet (and that's a big place) whom I really dislike with a sort of visceral abandon. I don't like mean people. This guy likes to use a lot of fake profiles that keep getting blocked by FB. He's a "writer" for Examiner.com who has burned bridges with nearly everyone he has ever dealt with.

He makes his living writing articles; I don't know if he has another job working at Burger King or whatever ... it's hard to say. But recently - a very popular FB page named Americans Against the Tea Party went through a dispute over "ownership". That's always an unsettling thing to see and in this case - one person lost ... a person whom I have nothing but nice things to say about. The person who "won" - did so because FB picked his side of the dispute and he was one of the founding admins of the page. It's like a divorce and divorces are ugly.

I bring up AATTP because the "writer" in question makes most of his money through sharing articles with the former moderator for AATTP. Now that there is a new "owner" - the "writer" has lost most of his income stream because the new admin won't share his articles.

So - according to screenshots by this new "owner" - the "writer" decided to threaten him. According to the screenshots and the article written about it - the "writer" said new "owner" needs to start sharing his articles or else. He says he would release this person's personal information - for himself and his family. In fact - he has already done that now. The writer says that he would personally go to this new owner's town and share stories with his family and church. He says that people will be calling his home and work.

The "writer" says that he's going to harass him. He says, "I will squeeze every inch of your life and everyone you know. It's what I do, and I'm very good at it."

The "writer" uses a fake account under the name Jamal Lewis; I know because I've spoken to him on this account. There is a term for this action: extortion. And it's a felony. You can see the screenshot here and I'll put the link to the story in the comments.

The name of the Facebook page that is responsible for all of this has deleted all of their posts on the matter (there were SEVERAL) wherein the page owner's personal info was shared. I normally don't get involved in these types of issues but this isn't just a matter of petty FB squabbles; we're talking about a real person being threatened here. It's unconscionable.

If you think this is bogus - tell them so at We survived Bush. You will survive Obama. That's the page that's doing the extortion. As I said - most of the posts have been taken down but there are still a few.

If you know me - you know integrity is big with me. This is the truth.
