Ramesh Khanna was five times old as his son Kishan Khanna eight years ago. Now he is three times as old as his son Kishan Khanna. Assume they both live in a country where people understand only binary numbers and they use symbol '0' for binary 1 and '1' for binary zero. Also they add 1 before any binary number. Express Ramesh Khanna’s present age in accordance to that world

a) 1001111 b) 1001111 c) 1100011 d) 1010000

Answer : a) 1001111

Solution :

Let Ramesh Khanna’s age be represented as ‘F’ eight years ago and the age of Kishan Khanna be represented as ‘S”.
F = 5 S
F + 8 = 3 (S + 8)
5S + 8 = 3S + 24
5S – 3 S = 24 – 8
2S = 16
S = 8

Now Ramesh Khanna’s age will be 5S + 8 = (5x8) + 8 = 48
Expressed as binary 110000 . However the people in their country use symbol 0 for binary one and 1 for binary zero. Replacing 1 with 0 and 0 with 1 we get 001111. Also those people usually add 1 before any binary number. Hence the answer becomes 1001111.

Question 2

Bhavna is presently three times as old as her daughter Anushka. Ten years ago Bhavna was five times as old as her daughter Anushka was. After how many years, sum of their ages will be 100.

a) 10 b) 20 c)15 d) none of these.

Answer : a) 10

Solution :

Let Bhavna’s present age be represented as B
Let her daughter Anushka’s age be represented as A.
B = 3 A
Ten years ago,
B - 10 = 5(A – 10)
3A - 10 = 5A - 50
-10 + 50 = 5A – 3A = 2 A
40 = 2 A
A = 20.
B = 3 x A = 60.
Present sum of their ages = A + B = 80.
When 10 is added to both A and B, Sum of their ages will become 100. Hence, after 10 years, their sum of ages will be 100.

Question 3

Monisha was seven times as old as her daughter Mercy eight years ago. Now three times Mercy’s age is her mother age. Before how many years the ratio of their ages (ratio of mother's age to Mercy's age) will be increased by 1 from the current ratio

a) 5 b) 4 c) 8 d) none of these.

Answer : b) 4

Solution :

Eight years ago -- let Monisha’s age be M and Mercy’s age be D.
M = 7 D
Now M + 8 = 3 (D + 8)
7 D + 8 = 3D + 24
7D - 3 D = 24 - 8 = 16
D = 4 = age of Mercy before 8 years
M = 28 = age of Mother before 8 years

Current age of Mercy = D + 8 = 12
Current age of Monisha = M + 8 = 36
Current ratio of mother's age to Mercy's age = 36/12 = 3.
Let before x years this ratio becomes 1 more than the current ratio. i.e x denotes the number of years before which the ratio becomes 3 + 1 = 4.
Then 36 - x / 12 - x = 4
36 - x = 48 - 4x
3x = 12
Or x = 4
i.e before 4 years, the ratio of their ages will be 4. Therefore answer = 4

Hi friends….. This is Adi from BBDNITM, LUCKNOW…. I attended Infosys on campus placement test on 19 th feb, 2008 held at SRMCEM,LUCKNOW. I would LOVE to share my experience with u & hope it would prove very valuable for u in the upcoming period

Around 700 students attended the test and out of them 62 were finally selected from my college out of 70 who were through Aptitude.

And due to Gods grace I was one among them.

The Selection consists of 2 Phases :-
a) Written Test
b) HR Interview

In which, written test consists of two phases:-

1) APTITUDE:
30 questns in 40 minutes..
5 questns about arithmetical reasoning
5 questns on series completion (figure)
5 questns on puzzle test
5 questns on data interpretation (graphs)

2) Replace an underlined sentence with another one which is of the same meaning from the given 4 alternatives.
3) Fill in the blank with correct alternative. (REFER ANY GRAMMAR BOOK HAVING TENSES )
4) Deriving conclusion from small passages.
5 questns on data sufficiency…….. and rst I dnt remember as I am writing it after around 10 days of the test..but anwz aptitude section wz easy….jst R.S. Aggrwal is very much sufficient for written test I can say R.S.Aggarwal is sufficient for all companies written test. JUS GO THROUGH IT. IT’S REALLY HELPFUL.

2) Verbal Reasoning (English) :-
While answering questns u hav to keep the time in mind…. bcoz time management plays major role in these type of papers IN verbal section ur english knowledge is checked.
1) Two RC’s, a very big one and time consuming so attempt them at the end .(refer BARONS GRE )
5) Select the correct statement from the set of 4 statements. One is correct and some r with little grammatical mistake. .(REFER ANY GRAMMAR BOOK HAVING TENSES ) After Completion Of paper, Result is declared after 2hrs….and my name is in the list.

1. You are given two candles of equal size, which can burn 1hour each. You have to measure 90 minutes with these candles.(There is no scale or clock). Also u r given a lighter.
Ans: 1. First light up the two ends of the 1st candle. When it will burn out light up one end of the second candle. (30+60=90)
2. Try the similar problem to measure 45 minutes.
Ans: First light-up the two ends of the 1st candle and one end of the 2nd candle. When the 1st candle will burn out ,then light up the both ends of the 2nd candle (15+30=45)
3. You r given a thermometer. What can u do by this without measuring the temperature?
Ans: if u put thermometer into a tree it won’t grow anymore,will just die off
4. How it is possible to place four points that are equidistance from each other? OR U r a landscape designer and your boss asked u to design a landscape such that you should place 4 trees equidistance from each other. (Distance from each tree to the other must be same)
Ans: Only 3 points can be equidistant from each other. But if u place points in the shape of a pyramid then its possible

Ans: Drag one piece of material over another. There is no attractive force in the middle portion of the magnet. OR Get a piece of thread and tie up with the one bar and check for poles. If it iron bar then it moves freely and if it is magnetic bar then it fix in one direction according to poles.

Ans: Open 3 screws, 1 from each tyre and fix the tyre.
8. How can u measure a room height using a thermometer?
Ans: temp varies with height. but its dependent on various other factors like humidity, wind etc.
9 What is the height of room if after entering the room with a watch ur head strikes a hanging bulb?
Ans: Oscillate the hanging bulb. Calculate the time period for one complete oscillation by Simple Harmonic Motion (SHM) of the handing bulb. Put it in the formula T=2 * 3.14 * (L/G)^1/2 L will be the length of the hanging thread. Add the L with ur height to get the height of the room.

Ans: We get ‘g’ perfect 10 which is only in poles…hence polar bear…color White
11. How will you measure height of building when you are at the top of the building? And if you have stone with you.
Ans: Drop the stone and find the time taken for the stone to reach the ground. find height using the formula s = gt*t/2 ( s = height, a= initial velocity=0, g=9.8m/s, t = time taken)
12. How wud u catch and receive a ball in same direction? (Dropping is from north and receiving from bottom not accepted, as it is 2 directions)

Ans: lets assume A is speaking truth. It means B is a liar then it means A and C are not of same type.

17. in a race u drove 1st lap with 40kmph and in the second lap at what speed u must drive so that ur average speed must be 80kmph.
18. You have to draw 3 concentric circles with a line passing thru their center without lifting hand.
Ans: Start the line complete one circle move inside circles along the line and then draw second circle. Like wise rest.
19. A rectangular paper is there. At a corner a rectangular size paper is taken from it. Now you have to cut the remaining paper into two equal halves.
Ans: try it on the paper. You must fold the part that has complete paper and select Half of it and then fold the part that cut and selects half of it and then cut along the folding.

21. There are 9 coins. 8 are of 1 gm and 1 is of 2 grams. How will you find out the heavier coin in minimum number of weighing and how many weighing it will need?

1. Pre ? Placement Talk
They give a ppt or paper presentation during which one can know about the company. You have to listen to it carefully as they sometimes ask questions about the things they tell you in ppt.

2. Motorola Test Question paper
The test was very short. There were 30 questions to be done in 30 minutes. There were separate sets of questions for Electronics ece and Computer Science cse streams.
For computer science students, the questions were from the important degree subjects like OS, Data Structures, C/C++, Networking, Aptitude (Logical and Quantitative). There was no negative marking in the motorola exam.

3. Motorola Technical Interview
After the exam, there was a detailed technical and personal interview. They took a lot of time for every candidate. Asked all types of technical questions and test all your tech skills. What you write in your resume, it matters a lot and they ask questions according to that. You can also be asked about your projects and related questions.

4. Motorola HR Interview
The HR interview was somewhat tough. Some persons could find it hard to answer the questions. But dont worry and stay confident. If you have done well in the tech interview round, then you can do this one easily. good luck for that.. those who passed the interviews were given offer letters. 12. Explain open SQL vs native SQL?

ABAP Native SQL allows you to include database-specific SQL statements in an ABAP program. Most ABAP programs containing database-specific SQL statements do not run with different databases. Integrated at the BASIS/WAS layer, Firstlogic has developed Business Add-Ins (BAdI’s) that can be leveraged with a single instantiation; allowing for all SAP modules that utilize SAP’s Business Address Services framework to leverage the compelling advantages of Firstlogic technology. Furthermore, Firstlogic’s Information Quality Suite has been developed as a Remote Function Call (RFC) Server: the most common integration component of SAP software. Utilizing SAP’s RFC interface, SAP makes calls to Firstlogic technology for address check, updates, duplicate checks, and error tolerant searches.

6. Why does SAP support Linux?

SAP’s goal is to be able to provide its customers the maximum of flexibility to create the best IT environment for their needs and be able to get the most value out of their business applications driving growth and profit. Openness, flexibility, and integrity of our products have always been part of our product strategy, putting customers in the position to decide what’s best for their IT environment. So the main reason is to offer you a free choice. Many SAP customers want to use Intel hardware and at the same time use their Unix know-how. Linux is growing with incredible speed and absolutely meets the quality standards of SAP. And thanks to the platform-independent SAP architecture, the port of the SAP kernel was fairly easy: none of the SAP business applications had to be modified. Another reason is the number of Unix operating systems SAP has to support. Especially when you try to get maximum performance out of your hardware resources, there are significant differences between the different Unix flavors. SAP has to maintain, test and support each possible combination of OS, database, hardware and mySAP release. With Intel moving to 64 bit there is a high probability of even more Unix flavors. A consolidation of these Unix derivatives would benefit both vendors and customers. From our point of view Linux has a realistic chance to become the unified Unix running on different hardware platforms. If Open Source continues like this, it is very important for a software company to adapt early to the new situation. 7. What is the SAP LinuxLab?

The SAP LinuxLab assists in the releasing of SAP software on Linux and drives the porting of SAP software to new platforms, like the Intel Itanium or IBM Power PC. Furthermore it helps other SAP departments with developing on and for the Linux platform and processes Linux-specific support problems - internal ones, as of external - or forwards them to the appropriate hardware or software partner. Currently, developers from Bull, Dell, Fujitsu-Siemens, HP, IBM, Intel, Novell/SUSE, RealTech, Red Hat, SAP, SUN and a number of temporary “guests” share the same rooms in the LinuxLab. Despite our hardware partners being competitors, the cooperation is excellent and we had a number of very successful projects. The LinuxLab also closely cooperates with (and is located directly next to) SAP’s Server Infrastructure department, which is responsible for the development of the SAP kernel, the basis layers on top of the native operating systems, which make SAP’s business applications platform independent.

1. Can you create a table with fields not referring to data elements?

2. What should be the approach for writing a BDC program?

STEP 1: CONVERTING THE LEGACY SYSTEM DATA TO A FLAT FILE to internal table CALLED “CONVERSION”.

4. What does an extract statement do in the ABAP program?

Once you have declared the possible record types as field groups and defined their structure, you can fill the extract dataset using the following statements: EXTRACT. When the first EXTRACT statement occurs in a program, the system creates the extract dataset and adds the first extract record to it. In each subsequent EXTRACT statement, the new extract record is added to the dataset EXTRACT HEADER. When you extract the data, the record is filled with the current values of the corresponding fields. As soon as the system has processed the first EXTRACT statement for a field group , the structure of the corresponding extract record in the extract dataset is fixed. You can no longer insert new fields into the field groups and HEADER. If you try to modify one of the field groups afterwards and use it in another EXTRACT statement, a runtime error occurs. By processing EXTRACT statements several times using different field groups, you fill the extract dataset with records of different length and structure. Since you can modify field groups dynamically up to their first usage in an EXTRACT statement, extract datasets provide the advantage that you need not determine the structure at the beginning of the program.
