Hi friends, Charlene here! Today I’m sharing a playful Halloween card with a few easy tricks for adding extra dimension and detail. I’ll show you how white pigment ink can help create a glowing blue and purple sky, plus how a little ink blending and Glossy Accents can turn a simple die cut into a realistic caramel apple.

Stitched Arches Dies
Clouds Stencil
Halloween Silhouettes Background Stencil
Halloween Caramel Apple Dies
Mini Ghosts Stamp Set
Mini Ghosts Coordinating Dies
Halloween Banner Greetings Stamp Set
Banner Greetings 4 Dies

I started with black cardstock and cut out an arch using the second from largest Stitched Arches die. To create the cloudy background, I blended white pigment ink over the Clouds Stencil, shifting and rotating the stencil as I worked my way down the panel.

I made sure to leave some of the black cardstock showing between the clouds. Once the pigment ink was dry, I blended blue and purple Distress Oxide inks over the white areas. The white pigment ink underneath helps the colors show beautifully against the black cardstock and creates a soft, hazy nighttime sky.

For the card background, I used the Halloween Silhouettes Background Stencil with black ink on white cardstock. I only needed to stencil around the outer portions of the panel since the center would eventually be covered by the arch and focal images.

Next, I die cut the Halloween Caramel Apple dies from light green and golden brown cardstock. Before adding the shine, I blended light brown ink around the edges and bottom of the caramel layer, keeping the center lighter. This simple shading helps give the caramel some shape and warmth.

Then came the fun part! I covered the caramel with Glossy Accents, first outlining the edges and then slowly filling in the center. I let the piece dry overnight so the Glossy Accents had plenty of time to create a smooth, candy-coated finish.

One quick tip: Glossy Accents can cause cardstock to curl slightly as it dries. Once the piece is completely dry, placing it underneath a heavy book is an easy way to flatten it again without damaging the glossy surface.

For the Mini Ghosts, I added soft warm gray shading around the edges and folds to give them a little more dimension while keeping them cute and playful. I also added simple coloring to the pumpkins, candy corn, broom, and witch hat. Since these images are small, just a little shading is enough to make them feel polished.

For the sentiment, I heat embossed “YOU’RE SPOOKTACULAR” from the Halloween Banner Greetings Stamp Set in white on black cardstock and cut it out using a Banner Greetings 4 die.

To assemble the card, I popped the arched sky up with foam tape and arranged four of the ghosts around the caramel apple. I added a black bow to the apple and used a white gel pen to add a few highlights to the green portion. Those tiny white details help give the apple an extra bit of shine and make it feel more realistic.

I finished the card by placing the sentiment across the apple and adding a small purple gem.

I love how this card stays cute and playful while all those little details make the finished design feel extra special. The glowing sky, shiny caramel, soft shading, and white gel pen highlights are all simple techniques you can use to add more dimension to your Halloween cards.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

I stamped the adorable ghosts from the Mini Ghosts Stamp onto a piece of Neenah Solar White 110 lbs cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and used the coordinating Mini Ghosts Dies to diecut them out. I colored them with Copic markers and highlighted with a white gel pen.

COPIC COLORS:
Ghosts: C000/0/1, R20
Pumpkin: Y17/38 YR04, YG03/25
Candy Corn: Y17/38 YR04, Y13/08
Hat: T3/5/7, V01/12/15
Broom: YR21/24/27, E33

For the background, I used the Boo Word Shaker Dies to diecut a window into a piece of white cardstock. (NOTE: Be sure to save the centers of the letters for later use.). I took a piece of pink cardstock and placed it behind the white panel. I used a stamp posistioner and the “Boo” window to align the spider web stamp from the Halloween Silhouettes stamp set. I stamped the web onto the pink panel with Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I trimmed the white panel down to 4” x 5.25” and adhered a piece of clear acetate and foam tape to the back side to create a shaker window. I added some Boo Crew Clay Confetti as well as a few black spiders diecut from the Halloween Wreath Builder Dies. I closed off the shaker with the pink panel.

For the sentiment, I stamped the “EEEEK!” from the Halloween Banner Greetings stamp set with Versamark Watermark ink onto a piece of black cardstock and heat embossed with Detail White Embossing Powder. I used the Sentiment Strips Dies to diecut it out.

I used a black pen to draw in a black line onto the front white panel to represent a spider web for the one spider that escaped to hang from.

I adhered all of the ghosts, spider and sentiment to the panel with foam tape for even more dimension and interest. I also made sure to adhere the white centers of the BOO letters onto the top of the acetate shaker window.. The panel was adhered to a white A2 cardbase (4.25” x 5.5”).

I appreciate you taking the time to stop by and visit today. I hope you liked my card and are inspired to check out all of the fun Halloween products from the August Release and create your own shaker card.

Have a wonderful and crafty day!

Let’s get started with the Witching Owl. I cut all the pieces from white cardstock and ink-blended the owl with dark purple inks and a brown belly. The witch hat is from the Halloween Holder Additions die set. I finished the owl with colored cardstock pieces for the dark purple feet, dark purple & white eyes, an orange beak and an adorable jack-o-lantern to hold on to.

To create the orange sky background, I used the Cloud stencil with two hues of orange ink. For extra shine, I spritz the background with a mist of shimmer spray. Then I added a white cardstock Stitched Arches for the Owl to perch on with a small patch of pumpkins.

To finish the card design, I added a black and white embossed Halloween Banner Greetings sentiment and adhered the decorated panel to a black & white stripe cardbase.

Happy crafting, and have a Happy Owl-o-Ween!
I created my background using the new Clouds Stencil, choosing to use shades of purple. This created a bit of a Halloween sky peeking from under my die cut Stitched Windows 1. Before adhering my window, I added a bare tree cut using the new Spooky Forest dies.

I have been so excited to use the darling, new Mini Ghosts stamps and coordinating dies and thought they’d be a perfect addition to this card. I colored in all of the fun images that make each ghost unique such as the candy corns, broom, pumpkin, and witch’s hat.

To finish, I added my sentiments, also from the Mini Ghosts stamps and dies, and a glowing moon from the new Halloween Silhouettes stamps and coordinating dies.

There are so many delightful, new products to create with as the Fall months get nearer. I can’t wait to see what you’ll create!
