Proton Not Running At A Loss, Says Dr Mahathir

SUBANG JAYA, Feb 28 (Bernama) -- Proton Holdings Bhd's financial performance is expected to improve in a year or two after the completion of the restructuring exercise of its sports car division, Lotus Group International Ltd, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said on Monday.
"Proton is not running at a loss. It's actually profitable but its profit has been trimmed because of the losses incurred by Lotus.
"Before we undertake to restructure, there will definitely be losses," the former prime minister who is now Proton adviser told reporters on the sidelines of the Biotechnology Forum 2011 here.
The national car maker recorded a pre-tax loss of RM51.535 million for the third quarter ended Dec 31, 2010 compared to a pre-tax profit of RM82.958 million in the previous corresponding quarter due mainly to higher branding costs and restructuring expenses incurred by its sports car division.
Revenue for the quarter decreased to RM1.833 billion from RM2.013 billion.
The company reported that the decline in profit was largely attributable to higher branding costs as well as restructuring expenses incurred by Lotus Group.
As part of the transformation plans to turn around Lotus, the group started investing in rationalisation of dealers network and branding activities to deliver the five-year business plans.
The group experienced lower domestic sales volume and increased promotional and marketing spending by a principal subsidiary during the third quarter.

Proton to launch its cars in India

Proton, the Malaysian car maker is gearing up to launch its cars in the Indian market. According to sources, the company will join hands with Argentum motors for assembling its car in India.

Argentum Motors has a production facility in Noida. Member of Proton’s Board of Directors, BVR Subbu, the ex-President of Hyundai Motor India, will lead the Proton operations in the country.

Proton showcased the EMAS concept at Geneva Motor Show and its Managing Director Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir said that the company will use this concept and build a small car with focus on India, China, Asean and Middle East. We reported on the upcoming launch of Proton cars Sega and Savvy last year – but then, it was believed that it would be Hero Motors who would be their Indian partner.

Sources say that Proton is ‘Indian-izing” its cars so as to suit the country’s road conditions. While Proton cars will come with its home-made petrol engines, the company will likely source its diesel engines from another well-established car maker.

Proton must have already grasped the Indian mind set in purchasing diesel cars, especially sedans and MPVs. It is to be noted that Proton’s global small car, Savvy, has engine and gear box sourced from Renault. Hence, Proton may likely source the diesel engines from Renault (the Logan’s 1.5 litre diesel engine?) for its cars when launched in India.

Proton cars are exported to 50 countries including the UK and Europe. Indian market could get the EMAS concept, Savvy, Saga and Exora MPV.

In UK, Proton sells Savvy hatchback powered by a 1.2 litre petrol engine that produces 75 bhp at 5500 rpm of maximum power and 105 Nm at 4250 rpm of maximum torque. With compact dimension of 3710 x 1643 x 1480 mm, this small hatch could be a good city car to drive. Proton Savvy costs £ 7995 (equivalent to Rs. 5.65 lakhs).

In Malaysian market, Proton sells Saga sedan, powered by a 1.3 litre petrol engine that produces 93.8 bhp of maximum power and 120 Nm at 4000 rpm of maximum torque. With a dimension of 4257 x 1650 x 1502 mm, this entry level sedan could compete with Maruti Swift Dzire, Tata Indigo Manza and the new Toyota Etios if launched in India. Proton Saga is priced at RM 32, 000 (equivalent to Rs. 4.58 lakhs)

In Malaysian market, Proton offers Exora MPV, powered by a 1.6 litre petrol engine that produces 125 bhp of maximum power and 150 Nm of maximum torque. This MPV must face stiff competition from Toyota Innova provided Proton offers diesel Exora in India. Proton Exora price starts from RM 58, 998 (equivalent to Rs. 8.44 lakhs).

Hye guys! Here i am going to share some pictures of extremely modified custom bodykit for proton wira and proton satria.

Look at the picture above and below. Very nice modification on proton wira. It looks like a Mitsubishi lancer evolution x! well now if you are dreaming to have a car with very nice and fierce face like evo x, just spend your money to buy a proton wira or satria and prepare around RM10k-15k to make this custom bodykit at custom bodykit shop. Seriously, it worth for you and really respect the owner of this car for his successful in modification to be evo x alike. So there are different shape of proton wira now. Not just normal design on the road that makes us feel boring.. yeah..

I think it is better if this proton wira car fitted with wide bodykit. So that it looks bigger and tougher!

Here you are, a Proton Satria extreme modification! With white paint job and some splash design at the side of proton satria. The spoiler / GT Wing of this proton satria is also custom made.

Just look at the rear bumper, kind of weird design but looks very different and unique. With two very big exhaust. Dont know if it is real exhaust or just a dummy twin exhaust.

Proton Saga Facelift R3 Concept at TME

At the launch of the facelifted Proton Saga at the 2010 Thailand Motor Expo yesterday, Proton also showed off an R3 kitted variant on the stands. We have no information on this sporty Saga and presume that it’s a styling concept, although there’s nothing too outlandish here to rule out a production version. Show enough interest and perhaps Proton might listen!

It’s in black with a distinctive single yellow racing stripe aligned to the left side of the car. This is matched by side stripes with the words ‘R3 Concept’ and a chequered flag pattern. The bronze R3 six-spoke alloys are in matching colour with the lower half of the aggressive front bumper (with side vents and big air intakes that just long an intercooler!) and the diffuser style rear bumper. There’s a rear spoiler and the exhaust also has a burnt tip look.
I got ushered off the stage before managing to take pics of the cabin (the car was locked anyway), but there are Recaro buckets and a small diameter sports steering wheel.

Proton Saga SE R3 Concept by reader Kamarul XY

A concept R3-kitted Proton Saga FL with yellow stripes on black paint was showcased at the Thai Motor Expo in the past, but there’s no news of it going into production anytime soon.

What we have here is a customized Saga SE R3 by reader Kamarul XY. He wanted an R3-ized Saga so much that he just went ahead to a fiber custom workshop in Sunway and specified a custom job combining the top half of the original Saga bumper and the bottom half of the Satria Neo R3 bumper.

As for the rest of the parts, it was obtained off the shelf – spoiler, rims, etc. The R3 effect was completed with R3 stickers and plaques, including the MME sticker that was on the R3 MME edition Waja and GEN2 cars.

Satria Neo to get R3 treatment

Nothing beats a car that is built by enthusiasts for enthusiasts, and the Proton R3 Satria Neo is one such vehicle and the national carmaker is building a limited number for sale.
Proton's Motorsports Division bolted a close-ratio five-speed manual transmission to the Stage 2 upgraded 1.6-litre Campro S4PH engine which now cranks out 145 brake horsepower and 168 Newton metres of torque.
The R3 Satria Neo sports re-profiled camshafts that increases valve lift and overlap; a performance calibrated on board computer with revised fuel maps for spirited drives; a carbon fibre air intake system; a higher flow 4-2-1 performance exhaust system; and adjustable aluminium camshaft pulley.
R3 also worked on the suspension with a set of performance cols that drop the car 10mm to reduce body roll while recalibrated alignment, toe and camber settings increase grip and steering precision.
Complementing the overall handling and dynamic package, the R3 Satria Neo is fitted with R3 edition 16" inch gunmetal lightweight alloys wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza RE001R205/45 series profile tyres that have a softer compound.
The car is also factory fitted with high performance brake pads capable of withstanding high-temperatures of up to 500 degree Celsius for increased fade resistance often associated with constant heavy braking.

Offered only in exclusive Fire Red with a black painted roof, the R3 Satria Neo sports a very distinctive exterior styling which sets it apart from its predecessors. The all-round CPSbodykit is complemented by a redesigned R3 designed rear roof spoiler; a front lip which improves down force on the front axle and reduces undercarriage turbulence; prominent fender arches; and titanium coloured side strips or mouldings.
The fiery theme extends to create a sporty, classy and alluring matte red and black two-tone interior. The R3 Satria Neo also comes fitted with R3 limited edition front bucket seats wrapped in nappa leather with micro fiber finish, carbon effect PVCand detailed in red stitching; matte red dashboard trims, gear console and handbrake handle; two-tone door trims; and R3 floor carpets.
An engine start button, aluminium foot pedals and gear knob accentuates the R3 Satria Neo's performance-driven attitude. All cars also come with solar and security protection.

Proton First MPV

Is this what Proton MPV looks like? Whatever it is, its just a fan impression. Looks like a crossbreed between Mazda MPV and Proton Satria Neo.The only thing we can do is hope that Proton MPV will be out soon… and it’s under 2000cc, or else the owner couldn’t get the fuel subsidy.Here some more details source, he managed managed to catch some of his hints from his writing plus others gathered from few forums and blogs, and these are the summary of information related to the Proton MPV which he deem reliable. Its up to the readers here whether to believe it or not. If you have other believable information to add here, please do so.The Project:
A little bird told me that the project had started a while ago, starting on par with the development of Persona. By now it should have reached quite advance stage of development process. There are news that says few clay models have been completed. The Chassis is ready now and structurul rigidity is still being fine tune to get better crash rating standard. The target product launch date is somewhere in the 1st quarter of 2009. So, we might see spyshots of this mpv on road test starting from Jun 2008 onwards.
The Capacity:
One of the most probable facts is that its going to be a 7 seater. And not just any 7 seater. It can seats 7 full size adults. Not like Citra or Livina which are actually 5 + 2 seater. The third row seats will not have raised floor level which are only suited for kids. The cabin space will be better and ample storage capacity even with the last seat up.
The Engine:
There are few engine option under testing and consideration. One of it is the standard campro 1.6 cps engine, secondly, the supercharge campro 1.6 cps with added vvt mechanism and lastly the Mitsubishi 2.0 V6 engine currently used in the Perdana. For the first option, I think the CPS version might be able to pull the load with 2 or 3 passengers but for fully loaded and climbing hill? I don’t think so. From waja to the latest model, Proton is well known for its heavier chassis and body which contribute to its magnificent handling. The third engine option is too outdated already and more expensive in terms of maintenance. It’s not going to appeal to the targeted market. So I think the best choice would be the second engine. Why? Because it can deliver the best power to weight ratio at minimal price. As quoted by Si-Fu, one of the regular visitor to PT blog: “The system above, provides good consumption at low speed, good low end and high end torque and most importantly power only when u need it.”
The Chassis:
The only choice proton would have is to start from the Waja Platform base. It was mention a long time ago that the Waja GX platform would spawn to many type of vehicles and one of it is an MPV. Based from the below data, The Chancellor platform is the best bet. This is also support the above statement regarding roomier cabin and storage space compared with the Wish.

Chancellor w/base: 2850 mm Dim: 4715 x 1740 x 1420 mm
Wish w/base: 2750 mm Dim: 4560 x 1695 x 1590 mm
The Interior:
The news says that the interior are going to get the utmost attention especially on quality and praticality. Seems that dark color theme will be chosen as this is the prefered color by most Malaysian. The Dashboard, central console & steering wheel design will be something fresh and totally new. There will an extra aircond blower for rear passengers and the third row seats will be able to fold flat, just like the persona’s. There will be lots of cups holders as most MPVs and also not forgetting grocery hooks. As a whole, the interior quality will be on par with the best of the Japanese makes.
The Exterior:
For the exterior design, it is said that the Toyota Wish is it’s primary benchmark. The new Honda Stream and Mazda 5 are also included. So expect the body curves to be as stylish as this three models but slightly longer as to give better space for last row sits and luggage area. The front face might be taking some cue from the Lotus APX but overall, from afar, somebody could mistake it for the Toyota Wish.

Proton Emas (GOLD) Is Coming

The Proton Emas and Lotus City Car concept cars have been confirmed for production, according to Lotus CEO Dany Bahar. Three companies, Proton, Lotus and another, yet to be revealed manufacturer, will work together to produce the small cars, that should hit Asian markets in late 2013.

The Emas will be created exclusively for Asian customers, while Lotus will make a sportier version and the other company will make a standard version for the European customers. Though the third company has not yet been announced, it is rumored that Nissan will be involved with its V platform. This might be good news, as the backing of a large carmaker will greatly benefit the development of the future city car.Though we do like the name “Emas”, it it not yet decided if the factory-produced model will share it with the concept car. Progress on the supermini is slow, as Lotus is building five other sportscar models and Proton also has its hands full with SUV and sedan models.

A trio of concept cars were released by Proton at the Geneva Motor Show. Called the Emas, Emas Country and Emas3, the cars were all intended to be frugal city cars powered by cleaner engines. Their names stands for Eco Mobility Advance Solution and means gold in Bahasa Malaysia. The Emas offered a five-door, four-seater configuration, while the Emas Country is a three-door car with five seats.

The drivetrain is borrowed from the Lotus Evora 414E hybrid concept. Powered by a lithium ion battery pack located between the car’s double floor, the rear-mounted electric motor drives the rear wheels. Total output is rated at 75 kW (101 hp), while peak torque is 280 Nm (206 lb-ft).

Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback Five-Door C-Segment in Malaysia

Malaysia Mitsubishi motor has been released new Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback which come with fully imported, offer a five-door C-segment, which Danny Tan again in Japan is only available in 2.4 liter form here, and 4B12 pot four-cylinder – also worn like Outlander – puts out 168 hp 6000 rpm min and 226Nm of torque and 4,100 rpm. Block is coupled to a box INVECS III CVT with six-speed manual mode.

Standard equipment includes sports seats, automatic climate control, six-speaker system with two entertainment DIN LCD touch-screen, fog lamps, rear spoiler and steering column mounted paddle shifters in magnesium. headlights and rain-sensing wipers, are also part of the kit, such as cruise control (with buttons on the steering wheel spokes), aluminum pedals and a sports front strut tower brace to help sharpen handling.

Two of PROTON Motorsports’ Satria Neo S2000s featured in BBC Top Gear programme as part of the Ashes Special show.

Two identical PROTON Satria Neo S200s were supplied by MEM, the British-based firm which prepares and runs PROTON Motorsports Satrias for the FIA Asia-Pacific Rally Championship and the Intercontinental Rally Challenge.

The Satrias were included in the final round of a five-event challenge, which had included a drag race, drifting, a race with cars on top of each other and sheep herding on motorbikes.

The PROTONs were on screen for six minutes during the section, which was filmed last year, and were then taken into the studio where they were placed for the closing part of the show.
Top Gear is regularly watched by more than seven million viewers in the UK.

In case you’re not up to date on your knowledge of the Proton Inspira you should check this out
Basically, the Proton Inspira is a Malaysian attempt at dodging taxes in re-badging a regular Mitsubishi Lancer.
Yeah but the Proton Inspira’s Jebat Concept is different. It is actually the Malaysian equivalent of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo. This means that it’s a hot version of the Inspira.
Unlike the Evo, the Proton Inspira’s hot version isn’t yet confirmed as getting the brilliant four wheel drive system. As a consolation, the Malaysians do offer the same turbocharged 4 cylinder MiVEC engine you get in the Lancer Evo.
In the Jebat Concept, this particular turbo four pot will develop 240 horsepower and 343 Nm of torque at its peak.This means that the Proton Inspira Jebat Concept can shift its weight around quite fast but it won’t match the times of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo.

The figures are still pretty impressive as the Proton Inspira Jebat Concept can hit 62mph from a stand still in 5.6 seconds and it can keep on accelerating to 144 mph.

Hindustan Motor’s

Hindustan Motors

Come July, 2011, Hindustan Motors Limited will launch a small car in two variants, a Hatchback as well as a Sedan. Now, we’ve been all kinds of news ranging from an all new car emerging from the embattled car maker to even a tie up with Malaysian car firm Proton to bring in one of the smaller Protons to India. What most folks are missing here is Hindustan Motors itself has come out in the open and said that the “new” small car is going to be based on the Ambassador.

Now, the Ambassador is a platform that is half a decade old and one of the most apt cases to go into an automotive history museum. But Hindustan Motors doesn’t think so and hence we’ll have a Amby’s backside totally chopped off to result in a hatchback version and partially chopped off to result in a Ambassador Compact Sedan that will look like a sad example of the stately Ambassador. How else can you create a couple of cars in under six months of development time?

The car will be manufactured in the un-utilized capacity that HM has in it’s Uttarpara manufacturing facility in West Bengal. We, for our part, still think that Hindustan Motors should tie up with Proton and bring to India a small car something in the lines of the Proton Savvy Hatchback. This, perhaps could turn around the sinking ship that Hindustan Motors actually is at the moment. Anything else, would only be only akin to a severe lack of imagination.

Proton actually came up with few cars. Some are like "wow" and some are like "wtf". But still they came up with something and at least more than 1 piece are sold.

Proton Saga
Nothing to complain about this car, just a steady car and still on the go.

Proton Saga Baru
The more improvised version of the older version, and obviously its better than before.

Proton Iswara
Wanna save fuel and ride a affordable car, this car is the best taxi choice but now no production.

Proton Wira
Better if compared with Saga. Smooth and cool ride with a curvy body. Costs slightly more than Saga or Iswara

Proton Waja
This is the MAN car. i can say 1 of the best. Just look at it. Created to be modified and hit the track. Spacious and luxurious feel giving "kau kau" car

Proton Persona
A mixed up version of PROTON car. Interior like wira, body like Gen-2.

Proton Tiara
One of the most stupid car ever. This is only worth to be sent to potong kereta. Once u buy it..... tats it.... it will be with u forever, u know y..... cause nobody wants it. nobody, nobody but you!!

Proton Arena
This car is ok. For the purpose, it does its job. Can carry things and all, mostly used by wiring man, load takers, and this house repair people ol. ha ha ha.

Proton Savvy
The improvised version of Tiara, but with a better design. the sale sucks but they are still trying. Both tiara n savvy are ranked as supermini cars. But just like the word... their sales are also supermini.

Proton Satria
This car no need to tell la.. i'm sure all know. This car is designed for teenage. U can maximize the power n look with car and it will bring u forward. Cool car and im using it right now...

Proton Satria Neo
Just because satria is so cool, they fixed Gen-2 in front of the car and name it satria neo. But guess wat, its still cool.

Proton Perdana
The luxury car. High maintainance car designed for the ministers cause they must use Proton cars. Very comfortable and can be modified to de max.

Proton Putra
Malaysian limited edition car. One of my favourite car. But very hard to get cause no more in production. Still.... its a great car. Proton's success car. =)

Proton Gen-2
This car is sumtin ike Waja but different shape. Its a good car. Affordable family car tat can be converted into a sporty car.

Proton Juara
Proton's Mortuary car. Dam useless. Comes in a tin like biscuit Hup Seng..

Proton Exora
The protons next project. It will be cool. Very nicely done. Looks like Estima but Proton's MPV. Will hit the sales.

Intro
Many are curious on how proton actually started and how did the idea came for them to start a company and actually sell cars. PeRusahaan OTOmobil Nasional is the abbreviation of PROTON. I'll just give u guys a small booooring intro. They start the company on 1983 (same as my birth year) and the first car were released on 1985. And u know wat??? These fellows start itself by copying. Now u know y i say proton cars are meant to be modified. The first damn Saga were entirely manufactured by Mitsubishi but slowly local parts were being used as technologies were transferred and skills were gained. So... Mitsubishi were tat stupid until they do a car proton and sell to them. I'm sure they do it for a lot of $, but too bad our Malaysian learned the technology and start to plagiarize other companies, mainly MITSUBISHI.... hahahaha

And now u know where this fellows start to COPY and the tradition continues till..... NOW. So there is nothing wrong in modifying your car to look like another car...
