Joy In January - SAD No More!

I have been participating in the Natural Perfumers Guilds Joy in January - SAD blogging project. The citrus oil top notes really help in alleviating the depression that goes with SAD. SAD is seasonal affective disorder which is a condition that is due to lack of light in the winter months.

Many of my natural perfumes contain sweet orange essence or neroli oil that help this condition. By spraying on or applying a natural perfume you can gain these benefits of feeling uplifted and more joyful.

My Year In Perfume

2011 was a very busy year for me. I participated in some Natural Perfumers Guild projects, several perfume blogger projects, and I created couture natural perfumes when I felt compelled to. In December I had counted 8 natural perfumes for the year. Low and behold I decided to launch a number 9. So JoAnne Bassett launched 9 natural perfumes in 2011. The number 9 stands for completion so it makes sense or scents.

The nine scents are Tetu eau de parfum and Dark Mistress eau de parfum from perfume blogger projects, Reflections Limited Edition Parfum and Esoterica Limited Edition Parfum were created to start a series of hand blown glass perfume bottles with parfums that would become a limited edition collection.

Luscious Roses Limited Edition Parfum...my cherished rose parfum that was long overdue. Temptress Limited Edition Parfum and Luscious Roses Limited Edition Parfum were created on the Autumn Equinox.

Enchant Limited Edition Parfum was from the Guild Project. Timeless Limited Edtion Parfum was created for the CaFleureBon and Guild project.

My You Are The One eau de parfum is a magic potion that I wanted to share with the world. I know you will love this one as much as I do!

13th Sign Project – Ophiucus – Natural Perfumers Guild Nov. 28, 2011

The 13th astrology sign - Ophiuchus, the serpent.

Ophiuchus is a healer and positive force and is named after Imhotep, the Egyptian God of Healing & Wisdom.

Online research also claims:

"Imhotep, Chancellor of the King of Lower Egypt, Chief under the King, Administrator of the Great Palace, Hereditary Lord, High Priest of Heliopolis, Imhotep the Builder, the Sculptor, the Maker of Stone Vases..."

Ophiuchus is the only constellation in the sky patterned after a real person in human history, tracing back through time and space for its roots to an Ancient Egyptian mortal-made-god named Imhotep, whose life and times in or about the 27th Century BCE were honored by both the Egyptians and Greeks some 2500 years after his death as not only a great man and accomplished master architect and builder, but as a god who owed his great powers to the knowledge of medicine which he possessed, and who brought the art of healing to mankind.

When I sat down to formulate my 13th astrology sign perfume, I brought to the table the information I had read online. The words that resonated for me were healer, Egyptian, serpent, high priest, and anointing oil. I felt the word peace. I saw a cobra snake coming out of an Egyptian's third eye. I was reminded of an Egyptian wearing a headdress with a cobra head sticking up from the top. The words enlightenment and deity came to mind. I heard this is made for the temple for a purpose. The purpose is to surrender. With that information I began to choose essential oils, absolutes, and resins.

This amber, resin, woody parfum contains: vetiver, elemi, cassie, balsam fir, holy basil, spikenard, frankincense, Egyptian damask rose, angelica, and others. It is a 100% natural perfume.

Sixteen oils made their way into my bottle. The numerology is 16 = 1+ 6 = 7. 7 is a spiritual number.

Timeless is an anointing oil. It has healing energy. Its purpose is to help you surrender. I created this anointing oil on Autumn Equinox.

The anointing oils were used by the High priest during worship services. When I sat with this oil and applied it the word Timeless came to me. This perfume is definitely timeless. Timeless Parfum is resting in organic jojoba.

Do aromatic journeys always have to be with perfume?

At the store I found these wonderful golden delicious apples..I couldn't wait to get home and make apple crisp. As I was cutting up the apples I realized how much cooking and baking is like creating perfume. The fresh fruity aroma of the apples..adding the cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves..is like adding the spice element to a perfume..The melted butter for the topping reminded me of my butter co2 I use. Oatmeal and brown sugar mixed with flour adds a nutty smell.

So the Aromatic Journey of measuring the ingredients, stirring them together had many similarities to making natural fragrances.

I must say the ultimate aroma came when the apple crisp was almost done..the cinnamon and spicy notes were singing in the oven..the apple aroma was like fresh hot cider..I started salivating..oh my...tell me this is not perfume!

Here is the recipe I have used for many years...I double the topping as I really love the crunch with the soft apples..contrast is good. Enjoy! By the way..there are no calories in this recipe..hehe.

Apple Crisp

9 x 9 baking pan

350 degrees oven

4 cups or more peeled, cored, and sliced apples

Topping: (I double this)
2/3 cup brown sugar packed
1/2 cup flour
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/3 cup soft butter
1/2 cup oatmeal, old fashioned kind
dash nutmeg, cloves..whatever pops your cork

Butter the pan and add the apples. Mix the other ingredients and spread over the apples. Bake 1 hour at 350 degree oven.

Goes good with coffee..
