Variations on the word rain

2012-11-22T01:01:00.000-05:00

fire away! i don't think i can condense or repress my thoughts any more than i have already. now i have no idea what to do for the rest of the evening. it has begun to storm here, the wind is moaning against my door frame, damn the draft. i knew i should have put new stripping in. a towel will have to do for now. every now and then a smattering of hail hits the windows and the panes creak as if they want to give up the fight, i have one cheater log left. can't decide whether to set a match to it now or wait a little longer. the walk to the train station tonight was miserable. the rain, biting cold, like ice water striking my skin. but inside it was warm. the lights shuddered and blinked out. the world looks beautiful from my box. i'm writing in all lower case, and much too long, to annoy glen boyd. to buck against his pedantic rigidness. to show him that all words have their charm, and the variations in their delivery reflect the vagaries in the mind of the writer. i have my charm as well. and vicki feaver on my mind... sharing one umbrella, we have to hold each other, round the waist to keep together, you ask me why i'm smiling--it's because i'm thinking, i want it to rain forever.

David Kelley: How to build your creative confidence

2012-05-16T16:19:00.000-04:00

Guided Mastery.... Creative Confidence http://support.ted.com/

It happens from time to time that I lose myself inside myself and I must search for the little bits scattered about to remind me of who I am... To remember the things that inspire me to create.

Poetry, a photo, a note tucked into my journal: These things eventually lead me back to my own unique voice.

"Like Raymond Carver I also have a photograph of my father. I found it last night whilst sorting through boxes looking for Christmas ornaments. It's a photo I had put away intentionally, buried deep under old work files and papers I had written in college. A photo that I had no desire to see again.

This picture was not given by him. My aunt had given it to me when I turned seventeen. "You look so much like your father," she had said, and I remember feeling the creep of discomfort, looking away. I didn't know how to respond. As I recall I mumbled something about my uncle telling me that before. She went on as I sat in awkward silence, her tone collusive; the family was just outside on the patio and this was forbidden conversation." A Photograph of My Father

Concert Review: Avenged Sevenfold with Seether and Alter Bridge

2011-08-25T01:03:00.001-04:00

If you only see one concert this year: Avenged Sevenfold, hands-down. There's no band out there that can even compete with them. They are the musical punch-to-the-face that metal fans have been begging for.

Check out the Avenged Sevenfold, Seether and Alter Bridge concert photos in the Examiner.com slideshow.

Taking a momentary break from their current tour schedule, Avenged Sevenfold rolled into Atlanta to headline as well, a one-off show with support from two of the hardest rocking bands on this summer's tour circuit, Seether and Alter Bridge. The explosive, power-packed performances of all three of these bands made it a concert lover's dream come true. Alter Bridge, Seether and Avenged Sevenfold on one stage; an absolutely epic concert experience.

Happy Slayer Day!

2011-06-07T02:33:00.023-04:00

I know--I'm late.
Slayer Day was June 6th.
Here's my video playlist for Slayer Day.

Interviews with Kerry King live backstage and with Dave Lombardo. Live interview with Anthrax as well; bands who have talked about Slayer during our interview or who have cited Slayer as a musical influence: Johnny Plague from Winds of Plague, Angry Phill from Madlife, Roger Miret of the Disasters and Agnostic Front.

KERRY KING - DAVE LOMBARDO - INTERVIEWS FROM THE EDGE

M. Shadows' picture is gracing this post as well and I've also added the concert review video for Avenged Sevenfold--because they fucking rock--and because the first time I ever saw them live, when I reviewed Uproar Festival 2010, Shadows was wearing his SLAYER T-SHIRT!As soon as I recovered from the shock of his stage entrance <-- editorial review here as well, of Seether and Alter Bridge), I noticed his shirt. This photo still makes me smile whenever I see it.

Have to re-upload the Welcome to Rockville videos and the Madlife interview also--apparently the new Windows 7 movie maker bumps uglies with Youtube's video processor--and not in a good way. When I've finished that I'll definitely be putting together the 2010 A7X Uproar video as well as the Anthrax and Slayer videos.

I hate shooting when I review a concert, prefer to headbang and take notes--Seriously! I even headbang when I'm supposed to be shooting! but when I do shoot it bothers me to have all of those photos left over knowing fans would love to see them. So more videos up-coming, as well as the Slayer 30 year celebration video.
