CRC Errors In RAR Files

First of all, you need to bypass the CRC check when extracting the files. My solution is to completely ignore all the errors.

What you must do is go to WinRAR in the Start Menu. In winrar you click File -> Open and then select the files you want to unrar. Then you click the “Extract To” icon and check the box that says “Keep BrokenFiles” under miscellaneous. Any CRC error windows that show up during the extraction you can just ignore and close them. The resulting extracted file worked just fine.

The problem with winrar is when you open a broken rar file, it gives you a warning that the rar is broken and rar creates the folder with no file in it. This is the default setting of winrar but you can change it to open broken, corrupted or partially downloaded file (specially media files which you can plan on VLC media player)

This is what you have to do -
1. On the rar file, right click and click on Extract Files …
2. It will show you a window where you can select the folder where the file should be saved. Now select the checkbox where it says Open Broken Files (see the below image)

and click on OK. Now as usual if its a partial file or broken file, winrar will again give you warning, just cancel it. Once the operation gets over, you should see the partial file or files which winrar was able to extract. This tricks works really well on movie files which are broken into parts, you can download the first part of the movie, extract it to see the quality of it and to decide whether you should download the full movie or not. It also works well for multiple files rar achieve as winrar may be able to extract many files.
Unfortunately if there is a single standalone file which is in corrupted rar file, you will be able to get much from it. You can try to repair the rar file but I have never seen it working. Also note that if you have a middle part of the rar, say 2nd or 3rd part of a three part rar archive you won’t be able to get anything as the meta information of every rar file is in the first part.
Edit - You can also try to use 7 Zip software. I have used it many times and it does recover broken zip and rar files. I will make a separate post on 7 zip but felt its worth mentioning it here.

How to repair corrupted .rar or .zip files

Sometimes when you extract a .rar or .zip file it says that 'file is corrupt'. Generally it occurs while compressing the files and when you extract this it says file is corrupt.

So here am telling you how to repair these files so it can become usable again. To do this just follow these steps.

First of all open WinRAR (WinRAR is a software which is used for packing and unpacking of .rar files), then locate the file which is corrupted.

Here just simply click on the file that is corrupted if there are multiple files then hold Ctrl button and click on each file which is corrupt and then just simply press Alt+R, then this screen wil pop up-

Here you have to select that it should treat it as a .rar file or .zip file, select the option .rar if the corrupted file is .rar and select .zip if the corrupted is .zip, after then click ok. After this step the recovery process begins and it identifies all file and recover them.

After this step, when it finishes it shows the file report that which file is corrupted and which one is not and also that the damaged file is recovered.

Now go to the file location where the file was, there you will find a file named "fixed.'file name'". See the image below

I found it very useful when I was using to extract a file but suddenly it said that some part of these files are corrupt and then this helped to get rid of this problem.

Few Tricks To Avoid CRC Errror...

1)
I was getting crc errors trying to extract from a multivolume solid rar archive. Tried many repair tools & programs, including latest winrar. even "keeping broken files" didnt work - the files were extracted but were corrupt. then i found a FUNKY program called 7-zip:
www.7-zip.org

It extracted the files with NO PROBLEMS!!! this proved that the
source files were fine all along. Try 7-zip - its free, compresses better and fixes problems that winrar
itself cant fix!....

2)
If can't fix a corrupted files Try avoiding From the Beginning !!! YES , from my experiences i can tell you only one advise : it tells ( when you try to download any files , do not try to divide these files by using the option at your download manager under max connection 8, 16 etc !!! but only use 1 connection ) .
Go to Internet Download Manager -> Options -> Connections-> Default Max Num Connection number 1 .....

This actually worked for me. Really pretty simple:
1. Install VLC
Here’s the link:

2. Start to unrar (extract) AVI files.
3. As the files are extracting, open the started AVI file with VLC. When VLC is open it will determine the
AVI file is corrupted and ask you if you want to repair. Say yes and the full AVI file will be built.
The whole repair process will take a minute or so.

I was able to play the completed AVI file with no problem with Windows Media Player. I then made DVD files with “ConvertX to DVD” and then burned with Nero.

Just when I thought the AVI Winrar files were too corrupt to work, this solution worked like a charm.

4)
1. Start extraction from the first part.
2. Immediately go to the folder where its is being extracted. You will see a .avi file being created.
3. As soon as RAR encounters the corrupt file, it may delete this 'temporary file' - so as soon as u know the corrupt archive part is about to be extracted (maybe a few minutes more), make a copy of it in Explorer. You need to be very agile in this step and it may take a few tries.
4. Now you have a incomplete avi. If its a DivX file, use DivX fix, a utility to fix incomplete avis.

The search box of start menu in Microsoft Windows is very convenient for searching within your computer, but not many people aware that this search box can also be used to search internet. You no need to open your browser. By default, this feature is not enabled. To enabled this feature just follow the below steps:

15 Killer Google Chrome Features You Might Not Know About

Google Chrome has been steadily gaining in the browser market share since its launch 2 years ago. It’s not without its flaws but it definitely falls in the “kinda cool” category. Its simplicity and minimalistic, yet feature-rich, interface caused a lot of users to ditch their old and trusted browser in favor of this new tool.

Chrome has a lot of obscure features which could immensely enhance one’s browsing productivity if he were to know about them. This post intends to do reveal exactly those features.

Some of the following features might be something you already know. But as you read on, you are sure to bump into an amazing hidden chrome feature that you weren’t aware of, and that’s what makes this post worth going through. So, check it out!

1. Pin Tab

We have talked about Chrome’s cool Pin tab feature before. Just right click on a tab, hit “Pin tab” and the tab converts into a favicon and sticks itself permanently to the extreme left. Use this on those tabs that you never close (Gmail, for instance).

2. Paste and Go / Paste and Search

If you copy any URL outside Chrome and intend to visit that site on Chrome, then instead of doing Ctrl+V and Enter on the address bar, you could just right click and click “Paste and go.” Same for text that you want to search using Chrome’s address bar. Right click and “Paste and search.” Saves time in the long run.

3. Drag and Drop Downloads

You can easily drag downloaded files from Chrome to your desktop or any other folder on your computer. That means, from now on, you don’t need to go and change the download location each time you want the files to be downloaded in a separate place other than desktop (or downloads folder).

4. Resources Page

While the entire Developer tools feature which Chrome offers (you can access it by pressingCtrl+Shift+I ) is unique and amazing, the Resources section is particularly useful for webmasters and anyone who owns a site and wants to know how fast his site loads on the browser. As you can see in the above screenshot, there are various options available to explore.

5. Task Manager

Chrome treats each tab as a separate process so that if one of them starts creating a problem, it can be killed and a browser crash could be prevented. It offers a built-in task manager to let you see the memory and CPU resources consumed by each tab. You can access it through Tools –> Task Manager or by pressing Shift+Esc.

6. Quick Calculation Results from Address Bar

You know that Chrome’s address bar doubles up as Google search bar too, but did you know that it could be used to make simple calculations? Yep, just type in 12*50 and wait a sec. The result will come up automatically.

7. Drag and Resize Text Box on a Webpage

Another very useful feature. A lot of times, the text boxes on webpages are annoying. They are too small and after you have typed a few lines, you get a scroll bar which is irritating. On Chrome, you could actually drag that box from the corner and make it bigger. You could try it right now with the comment box at the bottom of this page.

8. Site search from Address bar

If you have performed a search on a website then next time you can search it directly from Chrome’s address bar. Here’s how: lets say you have used this site’s custom Google search bar (located at the top right of this page) to lookup something before. Now, if you want to do it again, just type a few letters of site in the address bar, like guid.. and hit Tab. You’ll get a “Search guidingtech.com” option that’ll allow you to search this site directly from the address bar.

9. About:memory

For the geeks among you, Chrome provides an “About memory” page that can accessed by typing about:memory in the address bar. This gives detailed insights into how different processes in the browser are consuming memory.

10. Application Shortcuts

You could create standalone apps from webpages in Chrome by using Tools –> Create application shortcuts. This option could be used for sites that you use frequently and need them open all the time.

11. Sync Bookmarks (and AutoFills, Extensions) To Google Account

This could prove to be a very useful feature, especially after Xmarks, the daddy of bookmark sync tools, decided to shut down (though there is a ray of hope). 13. Select Reopen All Tabs

Chrome has an option that lets you reopen previously opened pages before you closed the browser. This comes in handy if the browser crashes for some reason and you had a lot of tabs open. 14. Organize Thumbnails Using Full Screen Key

This tip was contributed by a reader over at Lifehacker. You might not have noticed this but if you’ve got more than one Chrome windows open and you are using Windows 7, their thumbnails would interchange positions if you do a full screen ( F11) on any one of them. So, if you want to arrange the thumbnails in a specific order, you could use the same F11 key to do it.

15. Copy Paste Only Text

And last, but by no means the least, is this hidden Chrome feature that I, personally, have found it to be extremely useful since the day I discovered it. You know that if you copy anything from a webpage and paste it on some other application (except for pure text editors like Notepad), they bring along all sorts of HTML and CSS stuff with the text, right?

Next time, when you copy stuff from Chrome, and want to paste it somewhere else on Chrome itself (like a Gmail compose window, or a Google Docs document), use Ctrl+Shift+V instead of Ctrl+V if you just need the text. Quick and easy.

Here in right side panel, right click to create a new DWORD value with the name NoClose.

Now assign number 1 in value data box and close the registry editor.

How To Join 001 Files

With HJSplit you can not only split files, but also join the split parts back together again.

Information: a collection of split parts is set of files having all the same filename, exept for the extension at the end of the file name (.001, .002, .003, etc.) . Combining/joining these split parts is equivalent to restoring the original (pre-split) file.

After clicking on the ‘Join’ button in the main HJSplit screen, you will see the following screen:

To join a set of files, just perform the steps indicated below.

(1) Make sure the set of split parts (set of files ending in .001, .002, .003, etc.) to be joined all reside inside the same directory.

(2) click on the button ‘Input file’, in the screen directly above, which will open the dialog shown directly below:

(3) In this dialog, select the file you want to join. Then press the ‘Open’ button.

Information: please note that only the first file in the set of split parts (the .001 file) is visible in this dialog. Note that it is important that all split parts are in the same folder. When the other files which belong to the set of split parts (.002, .003, .004, etc.) are in the same folder, HJSplit will automatically find them during joining.

After pressing ‘Open’, the name and path of the file you just selected will appear in the ‘input file’ box, please see below:

(4) Press the ‘start’ button in the screen above. HJSplit now shows a progressbar with the title ‘working’.

(5) Finally,you will see the message that joining is completed (see below).

That the joined file can now be found in the same folder as the split part (the .001 file you selected in step2).
