Imagine a french folk music, somewhere between Paris and Utah... You are here !

In 2002, Raspail started to play his first gigs. Not much time passed until the recording of his first LP "les feuilles sont des armes". In the following years, Fred participated in the tour project “Grand Huit” with French and Canadian songwriters such as Sebastien Lacombe, Pépé and his Guitar et al.
After several side projects, Raspail continued playing gigs mostly in France, Quebec and Switzerland where he opened for a lot of famous French musicians and songwriters such as Cali, Têtes Raides, Dominique A and Tarmac, subsequently signing his LP “Biplace” at MVS Music Publishing.
From 2006 to 2009, Raspail went on promotion tour and had several appearances in french, swiss and canadian media.
Over the years Fred explored many different ways of playing: alone, in trio or with a string quartet. During CIRCUIT 02/2012 he will play alone and present his last ep, "Fred Raspail", recorded with Jean-Louis Piérot, known also for his work with Alain Bashung.

Zen Elephant are emerging as one of the most exiting folk acts in the

. Not your average folk band, they incorporate several genres such as gypsy jazz and reggae to create a collection of charming songs which are vibrant and upbeat.
This Bristol quartet has established itself on the UK festival circuit with appearances at some of the most prestigious festivals, including Glastonbury, Shambala, Green Man and many more.
Their debut EP ‘These Are The Times’ asserted their individuality and a level of musicianship uncharacteristic of many new folk acts.
The second EP ‘No End In Sight’ is a record that shows that they are a band that have come of age. It is this sense of emotional depth and experience that makes it such a convincing release.
Their much anticipated new single ‘Taking Back Our Home’ will be released in February 2012, with a UK and European tour planned

Französische Folk-Musik irgendwo zwischen Paris und Utah: Die musikalischen Einflüsse des Sängers und Songwriters Fred Raspail rangieren von amerikanischem Country und Folk bis hin zu französischen Chansons.
2002 veröffentlichte er sein erstes Album „les feuilles sont des armes“, es folgten Live-Auftritte, die sich in den nachfolgenden Jahren bis nach Québec, Kanada und die Schweiz ausweiteten. Ab 2005 trat er in verschiedenen Nebenprojekten auf; so schrieb er einen Song für Cadavres Exquis Vol 2 (Schweiz) und für Emmanuelle Monnet’s LP (Goodbye / Universal Music). Außerdem tourte er zusammen mit französischen Musikern, wie Cali, Têtes Raides, Dominique A und Tarmac.
Live tritt er seit 2006 nicht mehr ausschließlich alleine auf, sondern auch in Begleitung eines Trios oder zusammen mit einem Streicher-Quartett.
Im Rahmen des CIRCUIT 02/2012 stellt er seine neue EP „Fred Raspail” vor.

Zen Elephant gelten als eine der gegenwärtig spannendsten Folk-Interpreten Großbritanniens. Mit einer Mischung aus Genres wie Folk, Roots und Gypsy Jazz erschaffen sie lebendige, optimistische Musik, die vor allem eines ist: zugänglich.

Nach der Veröffentlichung ihrer Debüt-EP „These Are The Times“ Anfang 2010 konnte sich das Quartett aus Bristol mit Auftritten auf renommierten Festivals wie Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party, Green Man, Shambala und Sunrise in der Szene etablieren.

Das zweite Album „No End In Sight“ mit anschließender UK-Tour konnte mit emotionaler Tiefe überzeugen und bewies den Reifungsprozess von Zen Elephant.
Momentan arbeitet die Band an ihrer im Februar 2012 erscheinen Single „Taking Back Our Home“, die vom CIRCUIT 02/2012 begleitet wird.

"SONGS & WHISPERS" @ SCHOOL: Altes Gymnasium Bremen

In conjunction with Altes Gymnasium Bremen, "SONGS & WHISPERS" realised another version of its "SONGS & WHISPERS" @ SCHOOL programme. As In a long-running EDUTAINMENT programme, pupils conducted by music teacher Marc Gutzeit will be studying the work of the songwriter and poet Adam Donen, engaging with his words, music and biography and being in a permanent exchange with the artist.

Over a longer period of time this format helps to realise an extensive project which can help to motivate children to improve their music, language and media skills.

The first meeting between the pupils and Adam Donen is going to take place on Monday, January 16th, 2012. Donen invites the pupils to a joint production of a radio show:

The project will culminate for a second time with Donen visiting the school to perform with the pupils on January, 23rd 2012, as part of the "SONGS & WHISPERS" CIRCUIT 01/2012 tour

To finish the project as well as the tour there will be another joint performance during the last show of the CIRCUIT 01/2012 @ KITO (Bremen, D) at 4 pm on February 5th, 2012.

Gillian Grassie is an award-winning harpist/singer-songwriter from Philadelphia whose blend of jazz-inflected indie folk/pop showcases her “knack for turning seemingly insignificant events into songs worthy of everyone’s attention,” (Origivation Magazine). Her innovative use of the harp, expressive vocals, and sophisticated but accessible songwriting prowess have earned her grants from the Thomas J. Watson Foundation and the U.S. State Department, a slew of awards, radio airtime, film placements, television coverage, and the fervent support of her fans, who collectively funded Grassie’s second full-length studio album, The Hinterhaus, produced by Todd Sickafoose (Ani DiFranco, Anaïs Mitchell) and expected to be released January 2012.

Born in Cape Town, resident in London for 8 years, Adam Donen is a poet, musician and actor. Critically feted across Europe, his songs have been compared to Leonard Cohen and Jacques Brel, yet his style is all his own.

Donen has garnered much praise for his consummate stage performances, performing moving, transcendental music that takes you through terror and heartbreak, and out the other side.

His new album, Vampires, was premiered in London at the prestigious King’s Place concert hall, where he was accompanied by a 16-piece orchestra. The album will be released across Europe on 1^st May, 2012 on the label “SONGS & WHISPERS” and will be presented live during CURCUIT 01/2012.

For years Stefan Honig was the singer of the German indie band BENEVOLENT and for two years now he’s a solo artist
who quickly became one of the leading figures in Düsseldorf’s newly
formed singer/songwriter scene.
His debut album “Treehouse” came out in 2009.
Off stage Stefan works as a kindergarten teacher and the experience of watching the world through the eyes of a child often finds its way into the lyrics of his songs.
He has played many shows in and around Germany, Poland and the Netherlands.

A six week tour through China and has successfully supported international acts like Chris Garneau, Calexico, An Horse, Joshua Radin, Isbells, The Black Atlantic, John Vanderslice, Tunng, Castanets and many others.

Whether he is playing on his own or backed up by a band – HONIGs songs are songs to get lost in. Emotional and thoughtful. His new Album “Empty Orchestra” will be released in February 2012.

Die preisgekrönte Harfenistin und Songwriterin Gillian Grassie aus Philadelphia befasste sich schon in früher Jugend mit der Oper und trat mit verschieden Chören an ehrwürdigen Veranstaltungsorten auf. dam Donen stammt aus Südafrika, wo er im Alter von nur sechs Jahren im Hochsicherheitsgefängnis Pollsmoor Gedichte von William Blake und Samuel Taylor den ANC Freiheitskämpfern vortrug. Er studierte in England Literatur und startete schließlich sein erstes Projekt: seine Band Alexandria Quartet tourte zuletzt 2006/07 durch Großbritannien. Nach dieser Zeit wendete er sich vermehrt dem Folk / Alternative zu und sammelte hierzu neue Ideen um neue Texte und Gedichte zu schreiben. Er überzeugt durch eine Mischung aus klassischen Stücken, die neben seinem Gesang von Gitarre, Piano, Bass und Mundharmonika begleitet werden. Ob William Shakespeare, Sylvia Plath oder Bob Dylan, in Adam Donen’s Stücken finden sich Folk, Alternative, Klassik und Literatur in stimmiger Kombination und werden in einer explosiven Performance präsentiert. HONIG ist authentisch.
Nicht zuletzt, weil er nicht erst einen „Künstlernamen“ suchen muss.
Stefan HONIG hat ihn bereits.
Ebenso wie seine Musik. HONIG muss nicht suchen, nicht versuchen.
Er hat sie bereits. Sie ist in ihm und er lässt sie hinaus, wie er eben ist.
HONIG ist nicht süß und klebrig. HONIG ist melancholisch, intensiv, hoffnungsvoll und harmonisch. Bitter erfrischend. Leise summend und laut drängend. Seine Texte erzählen von erfahrenen Gefühlen, seine Musik trägt weiter in gefühlte Erfahrungen.

Seit Beginn seiner Solokarriere 2009 hat er sich zu einem gewichtigen Element der Düsseldorfer Singer/Songwriter-Szene etabliert und veröffentlichte im gleichen Jahr sein Debut-Album „Treehouse“. Zuvor fungierte er als Sänger der Indie Band Benevolent.

Abseits der Bühne arbeitet Honig als Kindergärtner. Bei dieser Arbeit hat er gelernt, wie die Welt aus den Augen eines Kindes aussieht, was sich nicht selten in seinen Songtexten widerspiegelt.

Honig hat zahlreiche Live-Erfahrungen sammeln können; er trat in Deutschland, Polen und den Niederlanden auf und tourte sechs Wochen durch China. Als Support hat er internationale Acts wie Chris Garneau, Calexico, An Horse, Joshua Radin, Isbells, The Black Atlantic, John Vanderslice, Tunng und Castanets begleitet. Im Februar 2012 erscheint sein neues Album “Empty Orchestra”, das er während des CIRCUIT 01/2012 live präsentieren wird.

Ob solo oder in Begleitung einer Band – Honigs emotionale und nachdenkliche Songs sind dafür gemacht, um sich in ihnen zu verlieren.

CIRCUITS 02/2012 and 03/2012 - Artists selected

First of all a BIG THANK YOU to all of you who had submitted to our SONGS & WHISPERS”´-CIRCUITS 02/2012 and 03/2012. We really appreciate your trust in us.

As “SONGS & WHISPERS” understands itselfs as a open and transparent network of people spread all over the place in Europe, we had been exchanging some emails and had been weighing up a couple of thoughts before we came to a final decision for CIRCUITS 02/2012 and 03/2012. A team of four people listened lots of EPKs, watched photos and videos, read through your bios again and again and very often double checked the internet to get an idea what you all are like and where you are coming from.

1) We always like the idea of getting as many artists, from as many different countries as possible involved in our CIRCUITS.

2) We wanted to have a wide range from a solo artist to a band line up as part of our CIRCUITS and all artist sharing stage with others during their sets if possible

3) It could be six persons in total maximum according to the size of our artist flat.

4) Also travelling of artist should involve a reasonable and sustainable handling of resources. “SONGS & WHISPERS” was intended to use public transport in the beginning only. This did not work out due to the remote places we are going to sometimes. But we still focus on using as few cars with as many artists being transported in as possible to protect the environment in general.

Thinking about all this we came up with two artists for CIRCUIT 02/2012 and another three artists for CIRCUIT 03/2012:

"SONGS & WHISPERS" is a live - music and artist development network.

We are presenting live music in venues in Bremen and other befriended places in Europe. We are putting on shows with international and local artist and are covering the genres: Alternative Folk, Alternative Country, Americana, Bluegrass, Singer-Songwriter and some unclassifiable music too.

Besides being a presenter of live music "SONGS & WHISPERS" is also an independent label, it is providing a recording studio and works as a publisher, booking agent and manager for artists we like. We have been setting up different ways within "SONGS & WHISPERS" to present artists and music we like:

THE CIRCUITS - 12 circuits per year. Each "SONGS & WHISPERS" CIRCUIT is about three weeks long in time. Most of these shows are free of charge for the audience. Every show is quality live entertainment and worth going to!

PRESENTS - Shows and shorter tours which are booked for artists we already worked with on a CIRCUIT or which were recommended to us by friends. We hope that quality speaks for itself!

SPECIALS: These are "ONE OFF" - SHOWS. We are arranging them as special as possible in terms of the artist or the location. Have a look, please!

Mark Legassick aka Howlin' Lord has been writing and performing alone or with a revolving cast of musicians and friends across the UK and Ireland since 2006. His heartworn yet poetically sharp songwriting has drawn comparisons from Bob Dylan and Justin Townes Earle to The Gun Club and Neil Young's Crazy Horse and his first full length album, 'GOLD FURY' has delighted critics and audiences alike. Legassik will be on tour together with Mark Lectic, the Keyboarder of the collective band Crippled Black Phoenix.

A veteran of the UK festival circuit, this year saw Howlin' Lord play no less than four shows at Glastonbury2011 as well as a string of other festivals and indoor shows across the summer alternating between a full Electric country band (with Mark Furnevall on bass and Thomas Elgie on Drums) and the kind of solo folk singer who could slip comfortably into the New York Coffee shop scene of the early 60's.

Ralegh Long is an English Singer-Songwriter, guitarist and pianist. He has been celebrated for his ability to place ‘the enigmatic within the classically melodic’. His debut release - Sprawl – shows a distinctive artist, informed as much by classic songwriting as by improvisational tactics. He has been compared to cult luminaries such as Robyn Hitchcock and Epic Soundtracks

2011 has seen Ralegh on the road supporting Thomas White (Electric Soft Parade) and Darren Hayman (ex-Hefner). A second E.P will be released early 2012.

Ralegh has also produced and contributed material to the soundtrack for Black Pond, a new feature film starring Simon Amstell and Chris Langham.

Der aus London stammende Ralegh Long, Gitarrist und Songwriter präsentiert im Rahmen des CIRCUIT 12/2011 sein erstes Album „SPRAWL“, welches im Juni 2011 in Großbritannien erschienen ist. Live erhält Long Unterstützung von Will Lamport und Richard Ellis. Seine Musik lässt sich grob in den Bereich Folk und Indie Pop einordnen. Ralegh Long beitzt die Fähigkeit, etwas Rätselhaftes in klassische Melodien zu integrieren; er kombiniert Klavier mit Gitarre und zurückhaltende Rhythmen mit Drums.

Long war bereits auf Tour als Support von Thomas White und Darren Hayman und steuerte außerdem eigenes Material zu dem Soundtrack für den Film „Black Pond“ bei. Ein weiteres Album soll Anfang 2012 veröffentlicht werden.

Die Bremer Agentur [ps] promotion betreibt seit Januar 2009 in Kooperation mit ausgewählten Partnerunternehmen, unter dem Namen „SONGS & WHISPERS“ ein weltweites Musiknetzwerk, welches die Entwicklung und den nachhaltigen Aufbau von deutschen und internationalen Musikerinnen zum Ziele hat. Die Reihe fokussiert auf akustischer Musik in einer sehr weiten Definition von Solisten bis hin zu Ensembles in Orchestergröße. Der „SONG“ in seinen vielfältigen Formen bildet den Schwerpunkt der Netzwerkarbeit.

Die Spielorte unserer "SONGS & WHISPERS" Konzerte sind manchmal von ungewöhnlicher Natur; Kinos, Hostels und Shopping Malls sind da nur beispielhaft anzuführen.

Das Netzwerk umfasst die folgenden Komponenten:

„SONGS & WHISPERS“ - CIRCUITS: Eine monatliche Konzertreihe von jeweils 25 Tourtagen quer durch Nordwesteuropa. Es werden jeweils zwei, manchmal drei Künstler / Bands pro CIRCUIT gemeinsam vorgestellt. Die Konzerte werden in der Regel ohne Eintritt realisiert, um Interesse zu wecken und mögliche Hemmschwellen niedrig zu halten. Es haben sich aktuell circa 30 Spielstätten dem CIRCUIT Konzept angeschlossen, diese werden regelmäßig monatlich angefahren.

„SONGS & WHISPERS“ - PRESENTS: Individuelle Tourneen durch Nordwesteuropa
unterschiedlicher Länge, von jeweils einem Künstler, als zweiten Schritt. PRSENTS Konzerte werden von uns für ausgesuchte Künstler nach dem Absolvieren eines CIRCUITS gebucht. Diese werden oftmals auch zeitgleich im Zusammenhang mit Tonträgerveröffentlichungen geplant.

„SONGS & WHISPERS“ - SPECIALS: Einmalige Sonderveranstaltungen in ausgewählten Locations, wie dem Sendessaal Bremen, einem philharmonischen Konzertsaal. Diese Veranstaltungen werden von uns umfangreich kommuniziert und dokumentiert. SPECIALS finden mittlerweile in Paris, London und anderen Europäischen Städten statt und werden dort von befreundeten Künstlern vor Ort betreut.

„SONGS & WHISPERS“ - FESTIVALS: Selbst organisierte Festivals oder
vollständige Bühnenprogramme im Rahmen anderer Festivals, wie der BREMINALE oder dem FESTIVAL MARITIM. Im Rahmen dieser Festivals treffen sich Künstler der CIRCUITS und PRESENTS Konzerte mehrfach im Jahr und touren zusammen. Diese FESTIVALS dienen zur Vertiefung des Netzwerkes.

„SONGS & WHISPERS“ - STUDIO: Ein professionelles Tonstudio, welches den „SONGS & WHISPERS“ Künstlern zur Nutzung frei steht! Unser „PAY AS MUCH AS YOU LIKE“ – Ansatz dürfte einiges über unsere Philosophie und Motivation aussagen.

„SONGS & WHISPERS“ - LABEL: Ein professionelles Plattenlabel, welches sowohl physische Produkte als auch Downloads weltweit im Vertrieb über die renommierten Partner CARGO RECORDS und ZEBRALUTION anbietet. Die Liste der Veröffentlichungen umfasst mittlerweile 20 Alben.

„SONGS & WHISPERS“ @ SCHOOL: Unser Edutainmentformat welches „SONGS & WHISPERS“ Künstler in direkte Interaktion mit Schülern der Jahrgangsstufen 6 – 13 bringt. Die Schüler werden als Partner in vielen Formen aktiv in die musikalische Zusammenarbeit mit dem Künstler integriert und ermutigt eigene musikalische Potentiale zu entdecken. Fester Bestandteil sind Auftritte der Künstler in den Schulen und Auftritte der Schüler bei den regulären CIRCUIT Konzerten abends.

Empfehlungsschreiben und Danksagung

Kultur und Musik zu fördern gehört nicht mehr zu den gängigen Geschäften der heutigen Zeit, so dass es viel Eigenengagement und Professionalität bedarf, etwas Neues in diesem Sektor aufzubauen und zu bewegen.

In einem Zeitraum von nur drei Jahren ist dies dem internationalen MUSIC – NETWORK „SONGS & WHISPERS“, welches ein Tonstudio, ein Plattenlabel und zahlreiche Eventformate wie die „SONGS & WHISPERS“ – CIRCUITS oder „SONGS & WHISPERS“ @ SCHOOL umfasst, gelungen. I've participated in the "SONGS & WHISPERS" - CIRCUIT both as part of a band and as a solo artist. I can't express how important it was to experience playing shows on foreign soil, and how thankful I was to have been given the opportunity. My band was one of the first acts to be booked when the CIRCUIT was merely one week long. Since then, I've seen the number of venues increasing and increasing and the promise of a three week tour for up and coming artists is now ever-more appealing.

Whether it be a back street cafe, or a 200 seater theatre, artists are warmly welcomed, fed, watered and generally treated like kings (something UK artists will not be familiar with). Audiences are attentive, well-informed and friendly.

The "SONGS & WHISPERS" experience is one not to be passed by if the artist has any hope of finding a European fan base. Three years on, I have an ever-growing portfolio and following in Europe, which is why I'm able to return year on year to bigger and better venues.

We are a folk-rock band from Paris, France, singing in English. In 2008, we have released our first produced albums on a DIY mode in France. In 2010, we applied for the "SONGS & WHISPERS" - CIRCUIT in North Germany and toured there, as an acoustic duo, guitar and cello. This experience was decisive for the development of our music and its career.

Indeed, the intensity of the tour (23 shows or showcases in 18 days) and the quality of the organisation (a flat to stay and other facilities, a very accurate planning mixing promo and live events, local support) helped us focus our energy on our performances, which is a unique opportunity for fresh bands like us. The results were that we could, first, get better, and develop our music. Plus, promo-wise, it was a chance to play in front of a lot of people, day after day, and significantly enlarge our fanbase and make contacts to come back and build up a solid professional network.

After the tour, "SONGS & WHISPERS" released our record and promoted it in Germany. Then I came back for another tour, solo this time, also booked by "S&W". We also came later for special events and festivals in the Bremen aera.

Again, these are opportunities hard to find in France for a band like us. The 360° work of
"S&W" seems a proper response to the crisis of music business that often shrunk opportunities for small bands to grow. And by growing I still mean on an artistic as well as a commercial level. The special show organised by "S&W" with a string quartet at Sendesaal, in December 2010, may the brightest exemple of that double interest: we could have never put up such an event in France, in such a big venue, with classical musicians. This was both a chance to play on a bigger stage and to experiment a new musical form.

This ground work in Germany also helped us raise a bigger interest in France and elsewhere. Thanks to "SONGS & WHISPERS" and its focus on band exchanges in several countries, I was able to play in England, Belgium, Netherlands, and tie up solid bonds that definitely help us in our own homeland. Pollyanna also regularly welcomes foreign bands in Paris, within the "S&W" network, building up a European music community that is crucial, in a time where the industry cannot help young bands the way it used to.

I would like to end this word by a list of all the things "S&W" helped me achieve for the past 2 years :

- some 60 shows in Germany. For the spring 2010 circuit we managed to have the support of the French Bureau Export.

- a dozen of show in Benelux and the UK, whether directly booked by "SONGS & WHISPERS"

- release and promotion of our album, launched out in Germany in June 2010

- appearances in festivals in Bremen (Breminale, Maritim) and a special show in a classical venue (Sendesaal) with a string quartet, that will probably lead to the release of a live mini-album.

- in France, this activity helped me raise the attention of more professionals, like labels and local promoters. I have good hope this will help me find a professional deal with a record company for my next album.

- thanks to "SONGS & WHISPERS",Pollyanna, has also grown into a bigger band with strings and helped write a new album, recorded in France this year.

As a promoter and band manager in the South West of England for many years with involvement in major festivals in that region (Glastonbury,Bristol Harbourside and Ashton Court Festivals to name but three) I have always been able to recommend English bands to apply for a "S&W" Tour in Germany. Not only because I feel that you provide the perfect springboard for relatively unknown acts to perform outside the UK but also because it is an excellent way for UK acts to network with other European artists and venue promoters. Since we started our association in 2007 you have given The Cedar a number of tours ranging from long weekend festival dates to full blown three week stints.

During the course of these tours they have met other like-minded artists who have booked them for dates from places as far afield as Paris and Reykjavik. In return I have organised dates in the UK for German,French and Icelandic acts who I and the bands have met during the "S&W" tours.

All this has been achieved through your dedicated enthusiasm for live music. I hope that we will be able to continue to work together for many years to come and and that with the help of your sponsors you will be able to encourage more musicians to seek new audiences for their music throughout Europe.

lieber Heiko,

seit über 2 Jahren präsentiert sich die Reihe "Songs & Whispers , neben vielen anderen Spielstätten, auch bei uns im Club MOMENTS. Wir waren anfangs durchaus skeptisch, ob ein solch ambitioniertes Projekt (gerade deshalb!), seinen Anklang beim Publikum findet, zumal dem Veranstaltungsort-/Club, bei gewünschtem "freien Eintritt", finanziell eher kein “Traumangebot“ gemacht wurde. Trotzdem standen wir von Anfang an voll und ganz hinter diesem Projekt, aus vielerlei Gründen. Auch weil die Kommunikation unter einer klaren Dachmarke, im Zusammenhang mit einer professionell aufgestellten Pressearbeit in vielen Bereichen (PRINT, RADIO, TV und ONLINE), unserem Unternehmen nachweislich eine Steigerung der eigenen Bekanntheit verschafft.

In einem Zeitraum von nur drei Jahren ist das internationale MUSIC – NETWORK “SONGS & WHISPERS“ entstanden, welches ein Tonstudio, ein Plattenlabel und zahlreiche Eventformate wie die “SONGS & WHISPERS“ – CIRCUITS oder “SONGS & WHISPERS“ @ SCHOOL umfasst und mit über 1000 Konzerten seit Bestehen nachhaltig im öffentlichen Leben Bremens präsent ist. Sozusagen eine feste Institution in unserer Stadtkultur. Davon profitieren wir auch als Club.

In Zeiten einer grundsätzlichen Krise der Musikindustrie versucht dieses Projekt neue Wege zu gehen und Alternativen zu bestehenden, oftmals festgefahrenen Strukturen, im Bereich des Musikmarketings, der Organisation von Konzerten und der nachhaltigen Künstlerentwicklung aufzuzeigen. Das bewundern und unterstützen wir gerne, insbesondere, das durch musikalische Basisarbeit junge regionale Talente aus Clubs, Schulen und Jugendzentren mit professionell tourenden Musikern vernetzt werden und diese zum Austausch und zur eigenständigen Interaktion anregt, um dann auf gemeinsamen Bühnen präsentiert zu werden.

Durch die verbindliche, qualitativ kontinuierliche, und in der Zusammenarbeit sehr angenehme Kooperation mit den Songs & Whispers Initiatoren, ist es uns gelungen, Vertrauen bei einem Publikum zu finden, das wiederkommt und sich auf musikalische Entdeckungen einlässt.

Als Live-Musik-Club ist die “ Songs & Whispers“ Konzertreihe eine Bereicherung in unserem Repertoire, und auch eine schöne Ergänzung in der Zusammenarbeit mit Radio Bremen und dem Nordwestradio, die in den Bereichen Folk, Rock & Jazz die Bühne des MOMENTS regelmäßig für Live-Aufnahmen nutzen.

Wir wünschen der Reihe “ Songs & Whispers“ weiterhin die Zustimmung und Unterstützung, die es braucht, um seine wertvolle Pionierarbeit fortzusetzen.

Wir haben unsere Zusage zu einer weiteren Zusammenarbeit für das kommende Jahr gerne erneuert.

Als die Konzerte starteten, hatten wir ja erst vor ein paar Monaten eröffnet. Wir hatten dich damals angesprochen, weil wir fanden, dass dein Konzept gut zu unserem passt. Diese Rechnung ist wohl aufgegangen! Die Konzerte sind meist gut, oft sogar sehr gut besucht und für das Lox hat das natürlich auch einen netten Nebeneffekt, nämlich gute Werbung für den Laden zu machen. "SONGS & WHISPERS" bringt tolle Künstler und ein tolles Publikum zusammen. Auf unorthodoxe Weise, an ungewöhnlichen Orten – und mit viel Begeisterung für sehr unterschiedliche Musikarten. In vielen Konzerten mit nationalen und internationalen "S&W" -Kollegen habe ich wunderschöne Abende erlebt, großartige Musik gehört und Freundschaften geschlossen – dafür bin ich dankbar. Zudem habe ich viel gelernt – zum Beispiel im Rahmen einer Tournee durch das UK, die meinen Horizont buchstäblich erweitert und mich zu einem besseren Songwriter und Performer gemacht hat.

Zudem erlebe ich, wie positiv das Publikum auf "S&W" - Konzerte reagiert. Die Begegnung mit der Musik ist an diesen Abenden sehr direkt und lässt die Zuhörer vorgefertigte Meinungen und Geschmäcker hinten anstellen. "SONGS & WHISPERS" addiert eine wichtige Fassette zur derzeitigen Konzertlandschaft und entspricht einem erkennbaren Bedürfnis nach Unmittelbarkeit und "kleinen" Strukturen ohne den Balast aufwändiger Eventproduktionen.

Jörn Schlüter hat als SOMEDAY JACOB bereits mehrere "SONGS & WHISPERS" -Zyklen bestritten, in den letzten drei Jahren etwa 150 Konzerte im In-und Ausland gegeben und im Oktober 2011 sein aktuelles Album "Morning Comes" auf dem "S&W" - Label veröffentlicht. Der Bremer Komponist, Gitarrist und Sänger ist außerdem als ständiger Mitarbeiter für den deutschen Rolling Stone tätig.

We at De Nul love the "S&W" concept. Since the start of the adventure in May 2010 we can conclude that we have seen and heard many great artists and have met nice people. We have enjoyed the concerts and we get a lot of nice feedback from the audience. The number of steady monthly returning visitors is growing. The concept of not knowing witch artists are coming to play can be scary, but as far as De Nul is concerned, the "S&W" team seems to get a great variety of professional artists on track who can fascinate the audience every time. Hopefully we can continue this adventure and we can gain the success of the past half year.

Kooperation zwischen Songs & Whispers und der Universitätsmusik der Universität Bremen

Die im Oktober 2009 begonnene Kopperation zwischen Songs & Whispers und der Universitätsmusik findet im Rahmen der Mittagskonzerte im Theatersaal an der Universität Bremen statt. De Universitätsmusik der Universität Bremen veranstaltet im Semesterzwei Konzertreihen. Regelmäßig dienstags findet das 30minütige Mittagskonzert statt, in dem Genre übergreifend Livemusik präsentiert wird.

Das Publikum besteht zumeist aus Studierenden, Lehrenden und Angestellten der Universität. Durch die benachbarte Zentralmensa erfreuen sich die Mittagskonzerte im Theatersaal regen Zuspruchs. Das Konzept von Songs & Whispers, internationale Bands und Singer/Songwriter an besonderen Spielstätten in Deutschland auftreten zu lassen, ist inzwischen zu einer festen Größe in unserem Spielplan geworden.

Bis heute spielten im Theatersaal während des Semesters an jedem letzten Dienstag des Monats Künstlerinnen und Künstler aus 14 Circuits, zumeist in zwei Sets pro Event. Die Qualität der Beiträge war dabei stets verlässlich gut und oft überdurchschnittlich,

so dass heute die Akzeptanz beim Publikum hoch ist und

First of all a BIG THANK YOU to all of you who had submitted to our SONGS & WHISPERS” CIRCUIT 01/2012

As “SONGS & WHISPERS” understands itselfs as a open and transparent network of people spread all over the place in Europe, we had been exchanging some emails and had been weighing up a couple of thoughts before we came to a final decision for CIRCUIT 01/2012. A team of four people listened to a lot of EPKs, watched photos and videos, read through your bios again and again and very often double checked the internet to get an idea what you all are like and where you are coming from.

1) We knew CIRCUIT 01/2012 is going to be our third anniversary. So we thought it should be something really special.

2) We always like the idea of getting as many artists, from as many continents as possible involved in our CIRCUITS.

3) We have seen quite a few acoustic instruments already and have been seeking for something which is unusual and new for us and the audience.

4) We wanted to have a wide range from a solo artist to a band line up as part of CIRCUIT 01/2012 and all artist sharing stage with others during their sets if possible

5) It could be six persons in total maximum according to the size of our artist flat.

6) We wanted to ease artist life touring CIRCUIT 01/2012. So there should be at least one artists having German language skills or having some experience in our CIRCUIT in general

7) Also travelling of artist should involve a reasonable and sustainable handling of resources. “SONGS & WHISPERS” was intended to use public transport at the beginning only. This did not work out due to the remote places we are going to sometimes. But we still focus on using as few cars with as many artists being transported in as possible to protect the environment in general.

Thinking about all this we came up with three artists for CIRCUIT 01/2012 selected via SONICBIDS:

3) Invite all your friends! Tell them to bring an empty beer crate and a pillow to sit on. Wingchairs are welcome but really heavy!
4) Please tell you friends to be in time. A doorbell can be perfect in a song, but only once.
5) Sell drinks with a little extra charge so you have your own work covered.
6) It would be really nice if the artist gets something to eat at your place. Making music is way easier if you are not hungry.
7) It would be great if your friends appreciate the music and could fill the "SONGS & WHISPERS" hat with paper money.

“To be honest, as a reader I'm not keen. The bits that are about your music are quite insipid, and the whole relies too much on cliché: "nagging self-doubt", "constant striving", "won't save your life, but" are all phrases that get used so much they're pretty much idiomatic. What I mean is, the piece should be unique and more reflective of you. It should have some imaginative and memorable turns of phrase and stylistic flow, like your music, rather than rolling out hackneyed compliments. Your sound is vibrant, inventive, energised – it needs words that mirror that. Not too sure about the language regarding the band, either – partners in crime, unshackled constraints, courses being navigated. It's music, not the Amistad. Keep down the grandiosity, pump up the Jubb. Sorry if this is c**tishly critical and unhelpful. Which has now put me in the awkward position of making out I know best. When I don't.”

Already at the age of six, the South African declaimed poems by William Blake and Samuel Taylor to the ANC freedom fighters in the maximum security prison Pollsmoor. He studied literature in England and eventually started his first project: 2006-07 his band Alexandria Quartet toured all over Great Britain. After this time, he more and more focused on folk / alternative and gained new ideas to write new texts and poems. It convinces with a mixture of classical pieces, accompanied by his singing and guitar play, piano, bass and harmonica. Whether William Shakespeare, Sylvia Plath, or Bob Dylan, his music is a harmonious combination of alternative, classical music and literature and will be presented in an explosive performance. The album Immortality was produced in London by Robert Harder (Kylie Minogue, Herbie Hancock, Babyshambles, Brian Eno, David Byrne).

The follow-up to Immortality, called Vampires will be released at the beginning of 2012.

The monotrol kid started in October 2008. Belgian Singer songwriter, Erik took inspiration from his many travels to Dublin, New York and London and his first single 'Almost' was released in February 2009. "Almost" is a gentle song with a nostalgic feel and great acoustic sound, a taste of what was to come. "An earthy, acoustic, pop song on a backdrop created in the style of the better song smiths". The Good Ship, London. During 2009, Erik worked on the creation of his EP, 'today was a good day', a collection of five songs that will carry you away and take you to a place where vocals and acoustic guitars come alive and eclectic, poetic lyrics echo the emotions of the monotrol kid. Joined by vocalist Anne on "her song", the monotrol kid has mastered the art of two voices and some great sounds that take you on a journey that just makes you feel good. The monotrol kid has performed in Arinsal, Andorra, The Purty kitchen (Dublin), het Depot (Leuven) and has supported Albert Niland (IRL), Stace Gill (IRL), and Buurman (BEL). Adam Donen stammt aus Südafrika, wo er im Alter von nur sechs Jahren im Hochsicherheitsgefängnis Pollsmoor Gedichte von William Blake und Samuel Taylor den ANC Freiheitskämpfern vortrug. Er studierte in England Literatur und startete schließlich sein erstes Projekt: seine Band Alexandria Quartet tourte zuletzt 2006/07 durch Großbritannien. Im September 2008 begann Erik van den Broeck mit seinem ersten Soloprojekt, „The Monotrol Kid“.

Mit einer Handvoll Songs und der Hilfe von Piet Martens schrieb er die ersten Titel von fünf Songs nieder, die die Wiederkehr zu der einfachen und ehrlichen Kraft des Songwritings und das wahre Talent des „Monotrol Kid“ zeigen. Ein neuer Sänger/Songwriter war geboren. Ein Jahr später wurden Londons Clubs Zeuge seiner ersten EP.

Seitdem hat das Aufnehmen für die darauf Folgenden begonnen. Erik ist wieder unterwegs um neue Inspirationen zu finden – diejenige, die man durch das Spielen von Gigs, Herumreisen und durch das Treffen von neuen Menschen bekommt. Dabei reichen seine Stimme und seine Gitarre aus, um das Publikum zu überzeugen.

Am 25.11.2011 erscheint das Album „What About The Finches“.

In the 1990s, founding members James Laming and Simon Felton were listening to bands like Teenage Fanclub and others that would become labelled "Brit-pop" and realised that British guitar music was undergoing a bit of a renaissance. In March 2005 they went into a studio in Bristol to record a new single called ‘Mr Newton’.

The Mr Newton EP was released by German label Dandyland Records in March 2006 and had its official launch gig back at The Cavern Club. It was their third appearance in as many years on the famous Liverpool stage! A further surge of activity resulted in 2008’s acclaimed album, Let Them Eat Cake, which won them many new admirers both sides of the Atlantic and also kept the loyal fans smiling. Incredibly, 14 years after forming the band and with “Brit-pop” seeming like a very long time ago, new guitarist Leighton McGrath joined and almost immediately they were off to Germany for a highly successful acoustic tour, playing 13 shows in 11 days! Their latest album, More Sense Than Money, was officially released in November 2010, garnering their best reviews to date! Garfields Birthday will be heading back to Germany once again late in 2011 for the "SONGS & WHISPERS" - CIRCUIT, performing as an acoustic duo comprising front-man Simon Felton (vocals/bass) and Leighton McGrath (guitar)!

“Solar driven squalls… the breath peels back and falls… makes atoms of us all… the savage and the small...” With a hauntingly clear voice, Alexia Peniguel – the woman behind indie-folk solo project “A Seated Craft” - spins tales of stars tapping out Morse code and skylines sulking, birds with eyes like marzipan and hearts that won’t let go. Her album “The Savage and the Small” provides the listener with the soundtrack to an inner world emerging from its own cocoon; drawing us in with her magnetic vocals, musicianship and narrative skill.

There are eleven songs in total on the album, eleven self-contained worldsbuilt around unusual themes such as celestial motions and shifting landscapes, as well as more universal ones of yearning, identity and the search for a new life. And for good reason: after finishing vocal and jazz performance studies in Melbourne in 2004, Alexia moved to Berlin, where she quietly established herself from scratch, now calling the place home.

Both reflective and joyful, the album’s unorthodox arrangements, produced by respected Australian producer Tony Dupé, imbue the songs with life. Parlour guitars collide with woodwind and dance waltzes with impulsive accordions, double bass slides mournfully down to join an undulating choir of strings, only to be born back up again by a joyful flock of piano keys migrating north.

They chirp in the morning, they fly to southerly areas when it's getting colder and they build their bird's nest in old trees.

Blackbirds, robin redbreasts, song thrushes - but what about the finches? Erik Van den Broeck, the man from Brussels, who is the person behind the one-man project "The Monotrol Kid" is dealing with this question. By releasing the album "What About The Finches" The Monotrol Kid shows that less is sometimes really more: He played several gigs in Europe and enthused his listeners with his minimalist instrumentation (we are talking about a guitar, sometimes a mouth harp and his feeling voice). Andorra, Ireland, Belgium and Germany are some of the countries where he was touring.
"What About The Finches" is the first album of the Belgian and includes ten songs of the best singer-songwriter-quality to be found anywhere.

Our edutainment format "SONGS & WHISPERS" @ SCHOOL has been developed in close cooperation with several teachers, musicians and schools since the beginning of "SONGS & WHISPERS". This format is provided to encourage children to learn instruments and enjoy performing live on stage. "SONGS & WHISPERS" @ SCHOOL includes several elements and variations and can be used for children and young adults age 09 - 18 years old.

The basic idea of "SONGS & WHISPERS" @ SCHOOL is that one of our artists performs a regular show in front of children age 9 - 18 years old at their school. Their sound is a mixture of Jazz and Popmusic and full of desire. Influenced by Idols like Tom Waits and Ben Folds, these three British guys go their very own way.

In “Buzzard Lope’s” music, the piano plays the leading role most of the time. Roger Illingworth’s (Piano/Vocals) rough but in a way soft voice is perfectly supported by Adam Jarvis (Double bass) and Rapahel Saib (Drums).

The album’s title “Daybreak” keeps its promises. It’s about the moment before the start of something new. “Buzzard Lope’s” debut sounds just like that instant before the sun arises. Peaceful most of the time, but sometimes dangerous. One moment it’s innocent, the next it’s dirty to its core. The theme “Daybreak” is fully realized.

Das ehemalige Urban-Creep Mitglied Chris Letcher ist Südafrikaner, lebt in London und studiert Filmmusik. Nebenbei ist er auch noch Sänger und Komponist. Ein interessanter Hintergrund, der interessante Musik verspricht. 2007 erschien sein erstes Soloalbum Frieze. Die Sunday Times listet das Album unter den „albums of decade“. Aaron sammelte erst diverse Bühnenerfahrungen, bevor er sich entschied, Vollzeitmusiker zu werden. Durch seine Vergangenheit als Flamenco-Gitarrist, kann er die Stimmung bei Konzerten schnell aufheizen und innige Momente mit dem Publikum erzeugen. In seiner amerikanischen Seele finden sich Spuren von brasilianischer Popmusik, die mit rockiger Energie gespickt ist. Seine Songs haben alle eine Botschaft und bewegen den Zuhörer zum Springen und Tanzen.

The new album from SOMEDAY JACOB "Morning Comes" is going to be released on the label "SONGS & WHISPERS". It is gpoing to be available for download and in store on Friday, the 7th of October.

Someday Jacob: Music written, played and sung by a man called Joern Schlueter from Bremen, North Germany. The forthcoming „Morning Comes“ is his full-length debut. There are thirteen songs on that album, all of them can be called Singer-Songwriter or Indie-Folk or Folkpop. Schlueter has been writing songs for a number of years, sometimes for himself, sometimes for others. With Someday Jacob Schlueter is as close as it gets to the music he loves. Some of these tunes echo Paul Simon, others echo the craftsmanship of artists like Neil Finn and Ron Sexsmith.

During these last two years, friendships were built. Someday Jacob became a band, and as part of the Songwriter's network Songs&Whispers (also a record label), Schlueter started touring with many great bands from the UK like Viarosa, The Epstein, Daisy Chapman, Johnny Parry Trio, Buzzard Lope as well as german artists like Robert Carl Blank, Arne Kopfermann and Sara Lorenz. On „Morning Comes“, some of those friends are at work, e. g. Richard Neuberg (Viarosa), Nadja Rüdebusch (Binoculers) and Fiona Brice (Midlake, Placebo).

„Morning Comes“: So heißt das neue Album von Someday Jacob. Unter dem Soloprojekt setzt der Bremer Musiker Jörn Schlüter um, was ihn als Songwriter bewegt: Musik, die das Weite sucht und sich am Strand aufstellt. Zwischen Meer und Festland, Profundem und Profanem, Heiligem und Alltäglichem. Immer mit der Gitarre im Zentrum, steht Schlüters Indie-Folk musikalisch zwischen Paul Simon und Damien Rice. eine Spur Americana ist ebenfalls dabei.

Auf der Platte haben viele Freunde des Bremers mitgewirkt. Fiona Brice zum Beispiel, zuletzt mit Placebo auf den großen Bühnen der Welt unterwegs, aber z. B. auch bei Midlake, Gemma Ray und Simply Red zu hören. Sie hat für zwei Songs Geigen arrangiert und gespielt.

Ulrich Kodjo Wendt am Akkordeon, den kennt man diversen Fatih-Akin-Soundtracks. Der Hamburger Saitenmeister Uli Kringler am Banjo. Richard Neuberg von den fabelhaften Viarosa aus London, Dania König, früher bei Könikwerq und Nadja Rüdebusch von Emmy Moll. „Das ist doch das Schönste, wenn fabelhafte Musiker ihren Teil zu deiner Musik dazutun“, erklärt Schlüter, „das macht alles aufregend; man ist plötzlich von seinen eigenen Songs überrascht.“

Nach einem knappen Dutzend Alben als Songwriter und Arrangeur in anderen Bands und für andere Künstler ist Schlüter seit gut zwei Jahren Someday Jacob. Gut hundertfünfzig gespielte Konzerte haben zu Freundschaften geführt – Someday Jacob wurde ein Band. Zudem ist Schlüter Teil von "Songs & Whispers", einem Netzwerk von Songwritern zumeist aus dem UK. Das Album markiert diesen ersten Abschnitt des Werdens. Mit herausragenden Songs, einer warm analogen Produktion und einem Gefühl von Aufbruch. „Die Leute in diesen Liedern wollen alle an einen anderen Ort“, erklärt Schlüter, „Sie machen sich auf den Weg: Das Alte vergeht, das Neue ist noch nicht da, aber man kann es schon erkennen.“ Die Reise beginnt.

Already at the age of six, the South African declaimed poems by William Blake and Samuel Taylor to the ANC freedom fighters in the maximum security prison Pollsmoor. He studied literature in England and eventually started his first project: 2006-07 his band Alexandria Quartet toured all over Great Britain. After this time, he more and more focused on folk / alternative and gained new ideas to write new texts and poems. Adam Donen stammt aus Südafrika, wo er im Alter von nur sechs Jahren im Hochsicherheitsgefängnis Pollsmoor Gedichte von William Blake und Samuel Taylor den ANC Freiheitskämpfern vortrug. Er studierte in England Literatur und startete schließlich sein erstes Projekt: seine Band Alexandria Quartet tourte zuletzt 2006/07 durch Großbritannien. Nach dieser Zeit wendete er sich vermehrt dem Folk / Alternative zu und sammelte hierzu neue Ideen um neue Texte und Gedichte zu schreiben. Marcus Corbett is a highly individual singer/ songwriter with a unique style from Marlborough, UK. A musician with a long involvement with North Indian classical vocal and Tabla, he has also had experience of African high life music having spent some years with Zairean bands. However while these genres have influenced his composition to a greater or lesser degree, he has wrought his own style and made his music his own. With sometimes unusual rhythmic cycles and moody vocals whether solo or accompanied the guitar is always the defining feature…

Corbett will bring the Indian tabla-player Nitin Gaikwad with on tour and therefore emphasises the international influences in his music. He has been studying the tabla with the Indian for several years now and they both have taken their time to have the confidence to play his music because it took a while for Corbett to get the Indian musician to take him and his music seriously. This convergence finally ends up in touring together. The Gaikwad family already has a visible profile in the classical music world in India. Espacially in Pune they are well known because of a family tradition of playing the Shenai. Nitins brother Pramod Gaikwad has also played internationally and now Nitin wants to do the same.

Patrick Duff was born in Bristol and member of the alternative rock band Strangelove. Now he is only on tour as a solo artist. Apart from rock sounds he focuses on folk-acoustic and creates his own music world. In 2009 he released his second album ‘The Maid Straight Road’, which couldn’t be more instrumental. Duff describes himself as a ‘synthesis, which shaped his life’ involving Disney Soundtracks, The Beatles, Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash, which added their influence to the album. The recording of the album consulted musically support from pianists, drummers, bassists as well as the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Alexander von Rothkirch sings songs about love dedicated to life. Funk and Rock’n’Roll for the hips, Jazz and Bossanova for the soul – his music doesn’t fall in a category just like himself with 1,96 meters. The musician from Hamburg plays the guitar since 20 years and developed his own melodic style that reminds the listeners on classical singer-songwriters only rarely. He presented his catchy songs that sound a bit like Bill Withers, John Mayer and Jack Johnson in more than a hundred shows – among others as local support for bands like Stanfour or Lake.
