The Google search results pages look a bit cluttered today because they now display related tags for every website that’s listed on the search page. See screenshot:

For instance, Google has assigned tags like “microsoft chairman” and “inventor of microsoft” to a Bill Gates related page on the Microsoft.com website while the Steve Jobs bio page on Apple.com has tags like “founder of apple” and “apple bios.”

If you click on any of these tag links, you’ll get the related Google search results.

I don’t see a reason why Google would want to display this kind of information in their search pages but its an interesting way to explore how search engines categorize web pages into topics. And since this is just another experiment, you may or may not see tags in your version of Google.

Google’s Real Time Search has gained a new data source, updates from Facebook fan pages. Google had announced a deal to list this information back in December, and now it’s finally being implemented. Google has tweeted the news.

All but the last three were part of Google Real Time Search when it launched in December. MySpace material was added this month. So were Google Buzz posts. With Facebook, it’s important to note that it is only Facebook fan page updates that are included. Things that are shared on fan pages by fan page owners — such as links, status updates, photos and vidoes — can now be found in Google Real Time Search. However, comments made by non-owners on fan pages will not be included. Nor will updates that are made on personal pages. Yahoo partnership with Twitter to integrate real-time tweets

Yahoo! on Tuesday began weaving real-time Twitter messages into its search results and said tweets will migrate to its other online properties later this year.

“The information in one single tweet can travel light-years farther with this Yahoo! integration,” Twitter co-founder Biz Stone said in a statement.

“Tweets in more places brings relevance where and when you need it most,” Stone said.

“A partnership with Twitter will let Yahoo! integrate the popular microblogging service into its online network used by more than 600 million people worldwide,” said Yahoo! consumer products group vice-president Bryan Lamkin.

“We’re turning the key to the online social universe you will find the most personally relevant experiences through Yahoo!,” Lamkin said, trying to capture the significance with Twitter’s trademark 140-character message limit.

“We’re also simplifying people’s lives by bringing their social worlds - and the world - together for easy access.”

People will be able to access their personal Twitter feeds across Yahoo! properties including its free email and homepages.

Yahoo! pages such as news, finance, entertainment and sports will serve up real-time public Twitter results. The feature went live in Yahoo! search late on Tuesday.

In October, Microsoft began integrating Twitter messages into its internet search engine Bing and arch rival Google announced a deal to do the same.

Negative-match keywords prevent your ad from appearing when a search includes a keyword that isn't relevant to your ad. Using negative embedded-match keywords can be even more useful, as they give you greater control over which queries trigger your ads.

For example, let's look at a client that sells Toy Story merchandise. Although the keyword 'toy story' is highly related, they may not want their 'toy story merchandise' keywords to expand to the query 'toy story' as it's too general for their product. With conventional negative keywords, they wouldn't be able to just add the negative '-toy story' as it would stop all of their 'toy story products' keywords from showing. However, if they use the embedded match option of -[toy story], their ads will appear for 'toy story dolls' and 'toy story products,' but not for the single query of 'toy story.'

You can run a Search Query Performance Report in the Report Center to find the queries that your broad match keywords have expanded to. From there, you can decide to add the expansions as keywords to gain more traffic or as negatives to prevent any irrelevant expansions.

Where:
PR(A) is the PageRank of your page A.
d is the damping factor, usually set to 0,85.
PR(I->A) is the PageRank of page I containing a link to page A.
C(I) is the number of links off page I.
PR(I->A)/C(I) is a PR-value page A receives from page I.
SUM (PR(I->A)/C(I)) is the sum of all PR-values page A receives from pages with links to page A..
