You have to appreciate honesty in this business. When a car company admits its offering in a segment isn't up to the task, it catches you by surprise. The surprisingly open Chevy reps stopped short of saying that making the last CHEVROLET MALIBU smaller was a mistake, but given that the righting of the ship included a lengthening of this new model, it was certainly implied. The eighth-generation CHEVROLET MALIBU lasted only three years, with a major update in CHEVROLET MALIBU coming just one year in to try and fix some of the bigger concerns. The goal for the 2016 CHEVROLET MALIBU wasn't to make a competent product better, it was to make an okay one good again.

That started with a stretch. The CHEVROLET MALIBU is long again, a big car that meets America's warped idea of a midsized car. Because of this, the CHEVROLET MALIBU dimensions sidle up to the Impala's. In fact, it's within a fraction of an inch of the Impala's wheelbase measurement, and sits right between the last CHEVROLET MALIBU and the Impala in terms of EPA passenger volume. The back seat gets the most of the payoff, bringing it back into
competition with other midsized counterparts.The CHEVROLET MALIBU is now one of the longest in the segment, but also among, if not the, lightest. The CHEVROLET MALIBU 2016 model is claimed to be about 300 pounds lighter than CHEVROLET MALIBU dimensionally challenged predecessor. While most new models tend to choose between lighter or larger these days, Chevy managed not-insignificant improvements to both. Some of that weight came out of the front end. CHEVROLET MALIBU had aluminum hood is lighter than before, and we'd wager that's because it stops very short of the leading edge of the car. Instead, CHEVROLET MALIBU nose is enshrouded in a big plastic fascia, which has to be an advantage at the scales but creates a somewhat unfinished look. That's amplified by the fact that everything ahead of the hood is a bit busy, and actually surprisingly aggressive, in contrast to the rest of the design.

The CHEVROLET MALIBU new Cruze, with its cowl-to-grille hood, wears a more cohesive new-Chevy front end.The styling adopts the, dare we say it, coupe-like look of many (most?) new family sedans. The profile is attractive enough but almost generic now since the Chrysler 200, Ford Fusion, and others have already moved in this direction. The rear-end styling is inoffensive, almost original Mercedes CLS meets current Impala. The more interesting styling-related item is the near-total lack of differentiation between the lowly L model and the range-topping Premier. Styling doo-dads no longer separate the trim levels, it's the features inside that fuel the upsell. The ritzier models, LT and Premier, get LED daytime running lamps (that further busy up the front end), and the Premier features LED taillights (with graphics similar to the standard lamps, so you can't tell the difference unless they're lighting up). CHEVROLET MALIBU also differences in wheel designs and diameter that actually might entice you to pay more.CHEVROLET MALIBU interior is a big improvement over the last generation, but it's nothing too special. The wraparound design is thankfully gone, opening up the feeling of the cabin left to right. One more vote for the lower trim levels: They adopt cloth dash panels, a Cruze hand-me-up, adding some visual interest to what would otherwise be a wide expanse of plasti-rubber.

All models of the new CHEVROLET MALIBU are extremely quiet, with continued use of dual-pane glass to keep things hushed and relaxed. That attitude extends to the handling – it's neither a barge nor a sports car, instead hitting an everyman sweet spot that should appeal to most buyers, which is to say not enthusiasts. The steering is electric, with the usual weight devoid of feedback, but it's well tuned to go along with the unaggressive character of the rest of the car. It's pleasant. You feel the weight reduction, or the engineers did a better job tuning the suspension, or possibly both, because the car soaks up bumps without floating and carries itself with a feeling of solidity that's been absent on recent GM midsizers. Most models (L, LS, and LT) come standard with a new 1.5-liter turbo four making 160 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. It replaces a rough-around-the-edges 2.5-liter naturally aspirated four that actually made a little more power and about the same amount of twist. Thanks to the weight loss, this engine is plenty for the car, and it's also thankfully slightly more refined than Chevy's larger and older turbocharged four-cylinders. The one oddity we found was that it shifted well shy of redline at full throttle since power drops off right after its 5,600-rpm peak. A standard engine stop/start system is included and almost goes unnoticed, with none of the odd transmission unloading/reloading felt at stoplights in some other models.

Those who want a fancier CHEVROLET MALIBU will get a 2.0T, which is available on LT and standard on Premier. It is mostly carryover but has been detuned from 259 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque to 250 hp and 258 lb-ft. Frankly, this engine is unnecessary. And while it does better in EPA fuel-economy testing than the last 2.0T Malibu, it takes a noticeable hit compared to the entry models, with ratings of 22 mpg city and 33 highway versus the 1.5T's 27/37 mpg. For those into milestones, this transmission is GM's first application of an eight-speed auto in a front-drive model. Oddly, the eight-speed is sourced from Aisin and not made in-house like most GM transmissions, likely a result of bankruptcy bootstrapping catching GM out with no many-gear auto on hand. It doesn't seem quite as smooth as GM-built-and-tuned transmissions, although it does manage the 2.0T's extra power well. Our advice: If you're considering paying over 30 grand for a CHEVROLET MALIBU with the big engine, take a look at what else is out there for the money.

The 2016 CHEVROLET MALIBU will also offer the model's first true hybrid variant later in the year. Unlike the eAssist mild-hybrid setup that popped in and out of the last generation,CHEVROLET MALIBU is a true gas-electric system that allows electric-only driving up to about 50 mph. It cleverly shares parts with the new Volt, including its motor-filled transmission, CHEVROLET MALIBU modified here for hybrid duty instead of range-extended electric driving. Despite the gas engine running and providing forward motion more often, the hybrid Malibu acts a lot like a big Volt, which is a good thing. GM's EPA estimates for the car are 48 mpg city and 45 highway, beating all of its midsized gas-electric competitors but the Honda Accord (which is taking a brief hiatus for a revamp). We'll have a more in-depth review of the 2016 CHEVROLET MALIBU Hybrid soon.In addition to the full powertrain lineup, CHEVROLET MALIBU also went all-in on safety. The item getting most of the headlines is what Chevy calls Teen Driver, which is not a second-rate chauffeur but a system to monitor younger drivers or really anyone you don't fully trust with your car. Part of the Convenience and Technology package, it keeps a log of things like overspeed warnings and stability-control interventions that can be reviewed by anyone who types in the PIN (the info doesn't go to the cloud for data-security reasons) and also locks out audio functionality when the front passengers aren't wearing their seatbelts. Because those darn kids just can't get enough of their rock and/or roll.

There are also two big safety packages available in CHEVROLET MALIBU the first of which makes use of a camera to provide lane keep assist, pedestrian detection with automatic braking, low-speed collision-mitigation braking, and auto high-beams, CHEVROLET MALIBU also includes items like blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors front and rear. CHEVROLET MALIBU lane keep assist works particularly well, but its intervention is almost too subtle to feel through the steering wheel. We'd almost prefer more of an obvious slap on the wrist for those who lose focus. Beyond that, there's a second package that builds on the first and adds a radar sensor, bringing active cruise, and improved front automatic braking, while additional sensors at the corner provide park assist for parallel and perpendicular spots.

If the Mercedes-Benz AMG E63 was a person it would be a lot like Nathan Buckley. We're talking about a car AMG E63 that's good with a family, pretty mature, intelligent and still able to get up and run. Fast.The AMG E63 belter Benz is not the best looking car on the road, and notably more chunky than the E-Class it replaces with the AMG E63, but it's a great new hero. It shows exactly what AMG E63 can to do make a mid-sized Benz into a thumping go-faster car, without losing the quality and comfort and refinement of the silver star.It's not perfect, but for family motoring with a kick it comes close.

The new AMG E63 is also a long way down the road from the compact C-Class AMG E63, which always feels as if it's going to twist your head around and then rip it off.This car is just as fast when you ask, but much more restrained when you just need comfortable transport.The heart of the car is still the 6.2-litre AMG E63 V8 engine, with an extra eight kiloWatts of power and a new AMG E63 0-100km/h sprint time of just 4.5 seconds. There is three-stage ESP for sporty driving and steering with a more-direct control.AMG E63 have seven-speed 'speedshift' automatic gearbox, and the transmission controller is new, and identical to the look in the Gullwing, with a choice of four driving modes

Suspension is AMG E63 developed withelectronically-controlled damping and a steel-sprung front end and — just like the C63 — the key to its success is unique AMG E63 design work and parts. But the AMG E63 is still a Benz and that means it comes with full leather trim, automatic air-con, no fewer than 11 airbags — and both lane-keeping and blind-spot assistance. The AMG E63 is a belter. Such a fun car, but also refined and luxurious. It is exactly the sort of car that every HSVand FPV buyer in Australia is dreaming about, apart from the price. They get a great deal on their Falcons and Commodores, but the AMG E63 Benz shows the way it can be done.

It helps to start with a car as good as the latest E-Class Mercedes, but AMG E63 makes a big difference with everything from the chassis engineering through to its 386kW engine. Each one is assembled by hand and the mechanic responsible gets to sign the motor.

I decided to take things easy at first in the new AMG E63, leaving all the settings in comfort positions to assess the car. It has more road noise with big Pirelli P-Zero rubber, and there is more thump over road joins, but it's not unpleasant. The AMG E63 car also has a brilliant cabin, helped by terrific sports seats, and it's just as easy to park as a regular E with a huge boot and space for three adults in the back.

But when I decide to get going it . . . goes. The engine responds brilliantly from 2000rpm and full-power upshifts produce a wonderful 'whump' from the exhaust. It's telling you it's keen

Driving the gearbox as a full manual, with the AMG E63settings to maximum including the lowered sports suspension, it would take a Porsche to get away from a well-driven AMG E63. And even a poorly-driven one would be way too quick for Australian speed limits. But it's the flick back to comfort that brings me the real surprise, as the car is still swift and nicely relaxing.

I eventually decide the Sport-plus setting is best on the seven-speed gearbox, neatly anticipating the places where I would make a manual shift, with the suspension at soft and the thumping sound system providing a soothing background soundtrack. There is a lot to like about the AMG E63 and only one thing that really grates — the price.

It lifts the bar again on luxury sports sedans and also shows why AMG E63 cars are so good, and so downright popular with muscle car buyers in Australia.

automated manual transmission (S tronic) are standard.Audi TT Handling is commendable, but hardly anything that'll remind you of a Porsche Boxster or Cayman. The Audi TT is ultimately more about its unique style, a comfortable ride and its all-wheel-drive system that provides the sort of all-weather traction that few small coupes offer. The Audi TT turbocharged four-cylinder delivers respectable power, while the quick-shifting transmission helps make the most of that output. Still, 211 hp isn't much in this segment, where 300-plus hp is more typical. As such, for driving enthusiasts the Audi TT's acceleration will seem subpar.

One of the Audi TT's most notable assets is its superbly crafted interior, which boasts a sleek and modern look.Audi TT Standard features include xenon headlights, leather/simulated suede upholstery, Bluetooth connectivity and a 12-speaker Bose audio system with satellite radio. The general look is a clear evolution of its predecessor, though character lines are crisper and the nose adopts Audi's now signature single-frame grille. Although longer and wider than the first Audi TT, the latest version is lighter (by nearly 200 pounds in the case of the roadster) thanks to increased use of aluminum in the body structure. It also offers a more powerful four-cylinder engine.

Prior to 2010, the Audi TT could be equipped with different powertrain options, specified as the Audi TT 2.0T (200 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque up until 2011) and Audi TT 3.2. The Audi TT 3.2 featured a 250-hp V6. This was a lively engine and certainly offered more grunt than the turbo-4, but its added weight was a detriment to handling. Both engines came standard with a six-speed manual, while the S tronic transmission was optional. Quattro was always standard on the Audi TT 3.2. Initially, the Audi TT 2.0T was front-wheel drive only, then Audi offered Quattro as an option for 2009 before making it standard for 2010. Used Audi TT car shoppers should also be aware that cars from early in this generation were available with a rather antiquated form of iPod connectivity (it would only play your first six playlists as if CDs in a six-disc changer) in lieu of the later standard auxiliary jack and optional iPod interface.

The body styling of the Ferrari F430 was revised from its predecessor, the Ferrari 360, to improve its
aerodynamic efficiency. Although the Ferrari F430 drag coefficient remained the same, downforce was greatly enhanced. Ferrari F430 despite sharing the same basic Alcoa Aluminium chassis, roof line, doors and glass, the car looked significantly different than the 360. A great deal of Ferrari

F430 heritage was included in the exterior design. At the rear, the Enzo's tail lights and interior vents were added. The car's name was etched into the Testarossa-styled driver's side mirror. The Ferrari F430 large oval openings in the front bumper are reminiscent of Ferrari racing models from the 60s, specifically the 156 "sharknose" Formula One car and 250 TR61 LeMans cars of Phil Hill.

This fifty-year development cycle came to an end with the entirely new 4.3L, the Ferrari F430 architecture of which is expected to replace the Dino-

derived V12 in most other Ferrari cars. The Ferrari F430 engine's output specifications are: 490 PS (360 kW; 483 hp) at 8500 rpm and 465 N·m (343 lb·ft) of torque at 5250 rpm, 80% of which is available below 3500rpm. Despite a 20% increase in displacement, engine weight grew by only 4 kg and engine dimensions were decreased, for easier packaging. The connecting rods, pistons and crankshaft were all entirely new, while the four-valve cylinder head, valves and intake trumpets were copied directly from Formula 1 engines, for ideal volumetric efficiency. The Ferrari F430 has a top speed of 196 mph (315 km/h) and can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.4 seconds, 0.3 seconds quicker than the old model.The brakes on the Ferrari F430 were designed in close cooperation with Brembo (who did the calipers and discs) and Bosch (who did the electronics package), resulting in a new cast-iron alloy for the discs. The new alloy includes molybdenum which has better heat dissipation performance. The F430 was also available with the optional Carbon fibre-reinforced Silicon Carbide (C/SiC) ceramic composite brake package. Ferrari F430 claims the carbon ceramic brakes will not fade even after 300-360 laps at their test track.

The 2014 Audi Q7 must not be broken, because Audi sure isn't in a hurry to fix it. Believe it or not, the three-row Audi Q7 is still basically the same crossover that first reached our shores in 2007, even though its platform-mates from Porsche (the Cayenne) and Volkswagen (the Touareg) have since moved on to second-generation designs. "Broken" would be a strong word for the Audi Q7 anyway, as good fundamentals plus numerous updates over the years have kept it in the hunt among seven-passenger luxury crossover Audi Q7 SUVs. Nonetheless, it's hard for us to recommend Audi's venerable SUV given the strength of its newer competition.

One category in which the Audi Q7 remains competitive is performance. On the gasoline-powered side, the
Audi Q7 supercharged 3.0T V6 is smooth and capable, and it's offered in a 333-horsepower state of tune in case the standard 280-hp rating seems insufficient. On the diesel side, the recently updated TDI V6 moves the Audi Q7 with authority, and it gets 28 highway mpg to boot. Both are paired with an excellent eight-speed automatic, and all Audi Q7 are surprisingly rewarding to drive, somehow managing to impart an athletic feel despite their imposing dimensions.

But the Audi Q7 has some drawbacks in regard to practicality that can only be rectified by a full redesign. Chief among them is the Audi Q7 s lack of interior space. Despite having a larger footprint than its main competitors, the Audi Q7 ranks below average for cargo capacity and passenger room in the third row. Furthermore, the Audi Q7 is pretty heavy, and that drags down fuel economy to the point that you have to get the pricier diesel if you want respectable mpg.In these respects, the Audi Q7's advancing age is unmistakable, and newer alternatives will likely serve you better. To wit, the Land Rover LR4 and Mercedes-Benz GL-Class offer roomier cabins with adult-friendly third rows, while the Acura MDX delivers more space and better gas-powered fuel economy at a lower price. The same could be said of the Infiniti QX60, which can also be had as a hybrid. Then, there's the BMW X5, which is closest in spirit to the Q7, but thoroughly updated for the 2014 model year.If you find yourself coming back to the 2014 Audi Q7 though, we can't blame you, because even after all these years, it's still a pretty nice ride. more. What we didn’t know was what the Mclaren F1 was like to drive. No-one outside the company bar a few prospective customers had driven an Mclaren F1 never mind driven one in anger. Perfection and cutting-edge technology were. Murray’s 10-hour concept brief in 1990 to the close-knit team charged with the task of developing the first Mclaren F1 Road car has already passed into motoring folklore. Mclaren F1 provide the ultimate uncorrupted driving experience, Murray decreed a three-seater, with the driver in the middle, sitting well forward as in a racer. Anything that diminished driver pleasure, the car’s raison d’etre, was out. Mclaren F1 definitive adrenaline pump would have minimal front and rear overhangs, and all its masses – engine, transmission, fuel, occupants, luggage – would be contained well within the ‘dumb-bell’ weight distribution. Low moments of inertia, regardless of load, were essential. So were low centre of gravity and light weight.Murray is obsessed by weight. His ambitious target of 1000kg (2200lb) – which was nearly achieved – meant compact dimensions and ruthless paring. Not for the Mclaren F1 masterpiece the gross obesity of a Jaguar XJ220 or Testarossa, both of which weigh hundreds of kilogrammes more. It also dictated Formula One carbon-composite construction for the immensely strong body/chassis unit. That a test driver escaped unscathed from a high speed crash in an Mclaren F1 prototype is testimony to the monocoque’s integrity and strength.

Packaging was key to the Mclaren F1success. Get that right and the rest would fall into place. Fashion would have little to do with the car’s timeless styling. Ground-effect aerodynamics Mclaren F1 cab-forward driving position, spinal air-intakes…these and other considerations dictated how designer Peter Stevens would shape the car. Another Murray edict that raised eyebrows was that there would be no turbo motor. Only the linear delivery of a big, high-revving, normally-aspirated engine would do for a car that was to be the fastest in the world, and civilised with it. Mclaren F1 talked to several engine manufacturers before accepting BMW Motorsport’s proposal to build a 6.1 litre 60-degree quad-can V12. Awesome though it is, this purpose-built 48-valve powerhouse, which yields considerably more torque than a Formula One engine (more than 479lb ft from 4000-7000rpm), draws heavily on existing BMW technology: variable valve timing from the M3 six, for instance. Dry-sump lubrication that reduces the depth of the crankcase squared with the quest for a low centre of gravity. Mclaren F1 drive to the rear wheels is through a slimline six-speed gearbox. There’s no traction control, for that would diminish driver involvement, not to mention add weight. Mclaren F1 have ditto power steering, anti-lock brakes, and adaptive damping. There’s not even a servo to assist the Italian Brembo brakes – huge, cross-drilled ventilated discs clamped by four-pot callipers. Nothing has been allowed to diminish the tactile relationship between man and machine.

It is clearly a bigger car BMW 3-series it’s 200mm longer, 19mm wider and 79mm taller than the saloon. The most important bit, however, is that it’s got a 110mm longer wheelbase, which translates to much more legroom in the rear. It’s not that the 3 GT looks awkward overall; in fact, the more stylised nose, flanks and tail look very attractive. What takes a bit of getting used to is the high roof, which gives the BMW 3-series GT proportions that are neither here nor there.

Power is sent via an eight-speed gearbox to the rear wheels because, well, it’s a BMW. And the BMW 3-series GT is quick; BMW claims a 0-100kph time of less than eight seconds for the 330d. Naturally, because of the difference in its proportions and the additional 200kg over the saloon it has to lug around, it is unlikely to handle quite as well as the saloon. Still, don’t ever write off BMW – it has pulled off miracles in the handling department in the pastBMW will launch the car at the 2014 Auto Expo and it will bring the car here as a CBU, and with the way our rupee is dropping, you can expect a price somewhere in the range of Rs. 45-50 lakh. What buyers will get, however, will be a BMW 3-series with the space, comfort and practicality of a 5-series; one that is more suitable to being chauffeured around in. But is it attractive enough to forgo the beastly Mustang Ford GT?

Up front, the two-door features a scowling fascia dominated by a vertical grille and contoured hood line.Mustang Ford LED daytime running lights give the car a touch of premium, as do the optional 18-inch wheels of our tester (the Performance Package adds 19-inch wheels as seen in these photos). At 188.5 inches long, the Mustang Ford is a big car, and its hefty proportions mean even those stocky rollers look smallish on this machine thanks to sizable fender gaps. We could do with about half an inch less ride height.

Mustang Ford while we're generally fans of the Mustang Ford's design, the look falters a bit at the tail for us, where the lines seem to lose their pointed sense of purpose presented by that long, expressive nose. To our eyes, the Mustang Ford suffers from an unnaturally tall trunk deck, and the result is something of a cliff face out back. Fortunately, designers have broken up the slab with a gloss-black panel tucked between the two taillamps. Mustang Ford lights feature all sorts of LED wizardry, including hidden reverse lamps and clever sequential turn indicators. Sure, engineers lifted the trick from Ford Thunderbird and Mercury Cougar models of old, but seeing the lamps in action never fails to grab a reaction from onlookers in traffic. If everyone's indicators were this cool, drivers might be more inclined to use them.

Introduced in 1979, the Honda Prelude was the company's first attempt at building an exciting car that still held true to the core Honda values of intelligent design and reliability. Over the next two decades, the two-door sport coupe would become the primary performance car in the Honda lineup. Although it was outfitted with relatively powerful engines in later generations, the Honda Prelude was not a muscle car. It was built around handling and drivability, while providing enough power to remain competitive.

Over its life, several new technologies for Honda Prelude were pioneered on the Prelude, such as fuel injection, four-wheel steering and Honda's Active Torque Transfer System. The Honda Prelude was also the first Honda model to get VTEC, the company's variable valve timing engine technology.Though the Honda Prelude was very popular throughout the '80s, consumer interest waned in the '90s. Eventually, the Prelude was trapped in an under-$30,000 no-man's land. For a sporty front-wheel-drive coupe, it was just too pricey, and it didn't have sports car looks or a sufficiently premium feel. By the turn of the millennium, the sport coupe market was a shadow of its former self. Honda dropped the Honda Prelude without a replacement after the 2001 model year. As a pre-owned option, however, the rewarding and reliableHonda Prelude merits serious consideration from driving enthusiasts on a budget.

If you're searching for a used Honda Prelude , you'll likely be encountering the fifth and final generation, which was sold from 1997-2001. It was larger and heavier than any of the previous models. It was also the most dynamic. There were two trim levels: base and Type SH. Both got a 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine with VTEC and a standard five-speed manual transmission. A four-speed automatic was available as an option on the base model. Initially, the engine put out 195 horsepower, but in 1999, Honda Prelude bumped maximum power up to 200 hp in the manual-transmission models.Both trims were equipped with a generous array of standard features that included 16-inch alloy wheels, ABS, cruise control, a sunroof, air-conditioning and full power accessories.

The main difference between the base model and the Type SH was the addition of Honda's Active Torque Transfer System, an electronic system that distributed torque to the outside drive wheel in cornering situations. Honda Prelude purpose was to minimize understeer and thus mimic rear-wheel-drive cornering characteristics.In road and comparison tests, our editors found the Honda Prelude Type SH to be one of the best-handling cars in its class -- truly a driver's car. It was nimble and well balanced, while also maintaining a decent amount of ride comfort.

Honda Prelude have enough engine performance to be sporty, with the VTEC four performing a Jekyll-and-Hyde Honda Prelude transformation in feel and sound above 5,200 rpm. Zero-to-60 times were in the low 7s. In 1999, the Honda Prelude won Edmunds.com's Editors' Most Wanted award for Best Sport Coupe ($10,000-$25,000). In 2000, it won again for Best Sport Coupe.Despite being a great-performing car, the Honda Prelude was lacking in other areas. The interior boasted high-quality materials and construction, but it lacked the visual pizzazz buyers had come to expect from a car with a $26,000 price tag. Honda maintained a conservative approach here, filling the cabin with a monochromatic color scheme and Accord-like gauges and controls. The front seats, though comfortable, weren't available in leather and had limited adjustability. The Honda Prelude have a rear seats had minimal legroom. The fifth-generation Prelude has aged well, however, as that restrained interior design now seems classier and less dated than brash designs like the contemporary Toyota Celica.

It's remarkable that the INFINITI FX35 made it to showrooms with its concept-car looks intact. While crossover SUVs had long been touted as a brand-new genre of vehicle, most of them at the time of the INFINITI FX35 s launch simply resembled small SUVs or large wagons. When the INFINITI FX35 debuted in 2003 with its sports-car muscles and hulking linebacker stance, it ushered in a new emphasis on style that other automakers are only now beginning to match.

But the INFINITI FX35 doesn't just look sporty -- it's been engineered to feel that way on the road. This crossover SUV handles like a sport sedan on stilts, and it also comes loaded with standard equipment. Unfortunately, high style has resulted in a sacrifice of some measure of practicality, as the FX35 offers less cargo room and versatility than most other midsize crossovers.

The INFINITI FX35's 3.5-liter V6 got a slight bump up to 303 horsepower, and it was teamed up with a seven-speed transmission. Lots of standard and optional technology was added as well, including adaptive cruise control and a hard-drive-based navigation system with digital music storage.

One well-equipped trim level was offered in either rear- or all-wheel drive. Standard features in INFINITI FX35 included 18-inch alloys, xenon headlights, leather upholstery, a back-up camera, Bluetooth, satellite radio and a Bose surround-sound audio system with a six-CD changer and USB port. A bevy of packages were offered, allowing buyers to add options such as the navigation system, an upgraded sound system and adaptive cruise control.

With its sleek looks and sporty performance, theINFINITI FX35 is undoubtedly a jock among its contemporaries. It shares a platform with the Infiniti G sedan and the nimble EX, so carlike handling is encoded in its DNA, even though there's ultimately no hiding its higher center of gravity. Another plus is the abundance of technology- and safety-oriented gadgetry. One notable drawback is its skimpy rear passenger and cargo space, which trails that of competing models. Nonetheless, Infiniti's distinctive-looking hauler is a must-see for used buyers seeking a stylish, energetic alternative to the typical bland crossover SUV.

Past INFINITI FX35 Models the first-generation INFINITI FX35 was offered from 2003-'08 in one fully loaded trim level. Power came from a 3.5-liter V6 engine that cranked out 275 hp with a distinctive exhaust growl. A five-speed automatic was the only available transmission. Traction control, stability control and antilock disc brakes were standard.
The original INFINITI FX35 s cabin was both sporty and luxurious, with an attractive gauge layout complemented by aluminum trim. Additional standard features included power-adjustable front seats, reclining rear seats, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, HID headlights and a six-speaker CD stereo.
Other features were available as options. A 300-watt, 11-speaker Bose audio system spruced up the sound, while a Sport Package added larger 20-inch wheels and a sport-tuned suspension, and a Technology Package added a navigation system, Intelligent Cruise Control and Lane Departure Alert, among other items. The navigation system was also available as a stand-alone option, and the INFINITI FX35 's cabin could be upholstered in leather.
In road tests, we found the first-generation INFINITI FX35 to be every bit as exciting as it looked. We liked its strong V6, and found its steering quick and responsive, much like a sport sedan. Despite its elevated ride height, the INFINITI FX35 felt balanced and under control, even in fast corners, while managing to provide an acceptably compliant ride. One concern that our editors raised was regarding the INFINITI FX35 s poor rear visibility, a consequence of that taut exterior design. And like the current model, this one was tight on cargo space and lacked a third-row seat.

History of MERCEDES BENZ AMG was founded as a racing engine forge in 1967 under the name MERCEDES BENZ AMG Motorenbau und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH (AMG Engine Production and Development, Ltd.), by former Mercedes engineers Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher in Burgstall an der Murr, near Stuttgart. The letters "AMG" stand for Aufrecht, Melcher and Großaspach (Aufrecht's birth Town). In 1976 most of AMG moved to Affalterbach, with the racing-engine development remaining at the old location in Burgstall. At this time Erhard Melcher ceased to be a partner, but continued to be an employee at the Burgstall location.

In 1990, with AMG having become a high-profile purveyor of modified Mercedes cars, Daimler-Benz AG and AMG signed a contract of cooperation, allowing MERCEDES BENZ AMG to leverage Daimler-Benz's extensive dealer network and leading to commonly developed vehicles (the first one being the Mercedes-Benz C36 AMG, in 1993). MERCEDES BENZ AMG started off by designing and testing racing engines. It expanded its business into building custom road cars based upon standard Mercedes cars.

MERCEDES BENZ AMG initially produced a range of unofficial upgrade and accessories packages mainly for the Mercedes-Benz R107 and C107,^[5] Mercedes-Benz W116, Mercedes-Benz W123, Mercedes-Benz W124, Mercedes-Benz W126 Mercedes-Benz R129 and Mercedes-Benz W201 models.

During the early 1980s and up until 1985, MERCEDES BENZ AMG offered a variety of engine performance packages, alloy wheels and styling products.

Typical MERCEDES BENZ AMG performance enhancements, which could all be custom ordered by the buyer, included increased engine displacements (5.2 litre, 5.4 litre), performance top ends which included port and polished heads/intake, lightened valvetrain and more aggressive cams. The DOHC 32V engine had also just been developed and was the pinnacle of AMG performance. A Getrag five-speed manual transmission could be ordered from MERCEDES BENZ AMG, and Mercedes had not offered a manual transmission V8 since the early 1970s.

The performance wheels offered during the same period were 15-inch or 16-inch ATS AMG Five Spoke Road Wheels, commonly referred to as Pentas. Penta was actually a UK-based company that supplemented the high demand for the AMG wheel at the time with a replica and only a very slight styling difference, but they were not made or endorsed by MERCEDES BENZ AMG. The genuine AMG wheels were often coupled with an AMG performance suspension package which included uprated/lowered springs and revalved shock absorbers.

Another popular cosmetic upgrade were the MERCEDES BENZ AMG body kits. These ranged from subtle front spoilers, to an aggressive Wide Body kits for the W126 coupes. Other options included Recaro seats, smaller diameter steering wheels, instrument clusters, chrome delete option (all brightworks colour-coded or painted satin black), refrigerators, shift knobs, hi-fi stereo systems, custom upholstery and enhanced interior wood packages.
